Description from the owner
LE HAMEL HUBERT is a detached stone house built around 1814 set in the centre of 1.5 hectare plot of land. The house consists of 3 bedrooms and 3 ensuite bathrooms with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge on the ground floor. The house is just 2 miles from our closest town Percy which is situated on the Route de Liberté (D999) – this is the route in which the Allied Troops took after the D-Day Landing to recapture France from the Germans during the Second World War in 1945.
The surrounding area of the house is peaceful agricultural countryside and in our garden we have sheep and their lambs in season along with chickens and d...Read more

The gite was perfect with plenty of character yet all mod cons. Well equipped we didnt wish for anything and the log burner was great. The bathrooms were fabulous and to have such a perfect view whilst bathing was lovely. The position of the gite was great for us, far enough away in the countryside to give us peace and quite and fabulous bird song yet near enough to lots of great places to visit and eat. My elderly Mother (83 years old ) found the spiral staircase a bit daunting at first but soon got used to it.
Sarah and alan were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much effort. Sarah provided us with a lovely breakfast for our first morning.
They were able to give us lots of information about the area and where to visit and eat etc. Absolutely delightful and we cant wait to go back. -

The cottage was delightful and Sarah was very friendly and helpful. The cottage was slightly out of town so very peaceful. The kitchen was well equipped for us to cook the produce we bought from a nearby market. The photos of Hamel Hubert are exactly what it is like, no false advertising. We stayed for 5 nights and took some day trips to Mont St Michel,
Bayeux and D Day beaches. We really enjoyed our time at this very homely cottage. -

Chantilly, VirginiaWe spent a week in Le Hamel Hubert and loved it!

We spent a week in Le Hamel Hubert and loved it! It is a charming renovated stone house in the "real" French countryside. As a family, we appreciated having 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths. We enjoyed the cupboard of games, English-language TV, CD player, complete kitchen with dishwasher (and washing machine), the top-floor master suite, and, of course, the outdoor hot tub, which was lovely even though it was barely above freezing outside! Go outside the house and you will hear... No traffic noise. So refreshing! Owners Sarah and alan are wonderful and helped us out with a tricky lost suitcase issue, which they would not have had to do. Also, Sarah made sure we had supplies for breakfast the first day, as well as local products to try. Percy has three boulangeries, two florists, a handy aTM, church, post office, a convenience shop and grocery store/gas station one minute down the road. In other words, you can get everything you need. It's only about an hour to Mont St. Michel, the D-Day beaches, Fougeres (the castle there was a family favorite), and Bayeux -- all of which we recommend! We ate our big meal at lunch, because it's so reasonable. You can find recommendations online. We did not have a bad meal eating the "formule" (set price lunch of two or three courses) in all different locations. Lunch hours are usually only from 12-2, so you do have to plan around that. A few practical notes: The house is about 3 hours from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris via high-speed toll roads; the tolls run about 20 euros. You can go on walks near the house, but you need a car to get out and about. (Note that rental cars are just as cheap or cheaper from the airport, unlike in the us). There is no door to the top floor, which at first worried us as far as lack of privacy, but wasn't a problem. In summary - this is the ideal spot for getting to know lower Normandy. The house is great, the owners are reliable, friendly, yet gave us complete privacy. Highly recommended

North YorkshireCharacter Gite in peaceful location with so many places to visit
Left on 01/19/2013 for a stay in July 2012
When we arrived we were very impressed with the wonderful welcome we received. It was a great start to our stay.
We found the accommodation exceptionally clean, spacious and very comfortable. The location was lovely there were sheep grazing in a field and free roaming hens pecking the grass, it was so peaceful. In the evening it was amazing to sit in the Hot Tub and see the wonderful display of stars.
We enjoyed cycling to the nearby village of Percy for fresh bread but there were lots of super markets only a few miles away.
There were so many places to visit we couldn't fit them all in. Nothing was too much trouble for Sarah and we can't wait to return
