This is april 2013. Although I will be going back to Sandy Key this June, my last visit was June 2012, ten months ago. A little late for a review...

We had a great experience at Sandy Key. Everything worked just at it should have. The management team could not have been more pleasant to work with. They were especially helpful when we unexpectedly had to extend our stay due to cancelled flights as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The unit itself was situated very conveniently to the beach and a short walk to the state park. It felt very private. The layout and size was perfect. The furnishings could use some updating. Living room chairs and sofas saggy. All in all, we would be happy to return.

Booking our stay was a terrific experience and it was nice to receive a follow-up e-mail a couple of days before our stay. We were excited to come pick up our keys at 3pm on Wednesday until we actually walked through the office door. My friend entered and was not greeted in a friendly manner. Her husband then entered the office a few minutes later and was treated with disrespect. I arrived two hours later and was unaware of these previous incidents and was rudely interrupted as I started to speak to the staff. I was completely caught off-guard by the male staff who was disrespectful, unkind and very poor tone of voice. Luckily, the female staff took over and was very kind to me to help me with the question that I came in to ask. So, needless to say, I was not welcomed with a friendly "hello" or smile so the start was very unsettling.
Once away from the office, the rest of the stay was wonderful! We loved our room with the back porch and side porch leading to the beach. We really enjoyed being greeted so kindly by the beach staff and the nightly guards. They were so pleasant. The pool, the beach, the condo was perfect. We had a fabulous time.
I would highly recommend that the male staff who worked on Wednesday the 15th in the afternoon attend a training on social skills. It saddens me to know that three people in less than two hours were treated with such disregard. Since your property is so nice, it would be unfortunate for others to be treated the same way and not return. -

New Orleans, LaVery nice condo, beautiful beach. Great 1st floor location step

We stayed at sandy key 118 early June this year. We stayed previously at Sandy Key, in a different 1st floor unit and loved this location and really liked it. Building 1 is the best, it is closest to the beach and there are no pools, hot tubs or other amenities between this building and the beach. When you are tired of the sand you can sit right out on the patio and there is just a little bit of dunes between you and the gulf.
This unit was very nice, very clean, the kitchen was nicely stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc., beds were comfortable. The decor is nice. Everything was working properly including a/c's, tv's, fridge, etc. Free Wifi worked fine. Games and books in the closet. The living room furniture however was a little bit uncomfortable. The only 2 negatives worth mentioning was 1- the condo had house flies when we arrived, had to go buy a fly swatter, killed at least 20. We did not really see very many outside the doors, so i suspect the housekeeping staff may have left the door open while cleaning. Once we killed these, there was no more problem. 2- the screens on the patio door were off the frame, so that kept us from opening the doors when the 1st two evenings were nice, but they did send a maintenance person who did a temporary fix on it, once the office opened.
Overall the complex is nicely maintained, grass cut, no trash, plenty of parking. We saw complex personnel frequently monitoring the areas. We did not swim in the pools but they looked clean. Two BBQ pits are available, but we didn't use them. Check in and reservations were easy. There are beach services - chairs and umbrellas - right in front of the complex, and the beach in this area was very clean due to these guys keeping the trash picked up.
The complex is nicely located, it is almost to the end of perdido key near the gulf islands seashore, so crowds are light. A little bit of walking east gets you to almost deserted areas of the beach. If you get tired of the sand, there is Big Bend State Park which has nice nature trails for birding or other activities, and a drive into Pensacola gets you to the great air museum.
I didn't get any photos inside the condo, but they have some at the sandy key site. -

My husband and I took our 3 kids ages 11, 10 and 2 yrs old, my sister in law, and my mom for a few days at the beach. It was easy to check in even though we got there after office hours. It was less expensive than our usual rental condo in Panama City Beach, Florida. My eldest son has autism and the environment(he loves the ocean)and lack of high levels of noise and smoking helped to keep him calm. There was enough space for everyone and a kitchen so we could avoid dining out with the kids. We even found coloring books and puzzles in a closet which was a pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come again.
