Chicago and Berwyn ILDark skies and fresh eggs!
Left on 04/21/2013 for a stay in August 2012
We visited Grace and family on our august trip to Stellafane in nearby Springfield. Although we were concerned that we would be far from the site, we found it was a quick 20 minute trip via back roads and that the fantastic lodging made this drive no big deal. You should consider High Shelter Farm even if it is a bit off the beaten path for your destination. It is one of the most unique, comfortable and accommodating places that I have ever stayed. High Shelter Farm is a wonderful place to stay, Grace a most generous hostess, and Vermont's dark skies a truly precious resource. We truly enjoyed our visit.
The location is a sheep farm in a beautiful setting on quiet back roads but not far from Interstate 91. City slickers, fear not, you will not smell sheep! The lodging is a ground level guest apartment in the family home. It has its own entrance and patio and felt very private. We rarely saw the family although the very sweet dog was a regular visitor. There is a beautifully landscaped outdoor pool available for your use and lots of gorgeous scenery to gaze upon. The evening sky is quite dark...a great bonus for those who enjoy stargazing.
The apartment itself was extremely clean, large and comfortable. I am a hotel snob and could find no faults with it. This is self-catering and those looking for the historic inn experience might be better off elsewhere, but the furnishings were comparable to what one would find a nicely appointed suburban home. Pottery Barn sheets, a comfortable leather sofa, a large soaking tub and a new and well-stocked kitchen made us as comfortable as we would be at home. The shelves were full of books about Vermont and the TV, for those who require it, had satellite. The high speed internet was excellent. This place would be great for a working vacation.
On our arrival, the fridge was stocked with the basics--including High Shelter's own fresh eggs and maple syrup. We ate a lot of fantastic french toast that week.

W. Redding, CTGreat Getaway - Wonderful Place
Left on 10/23/2012 for a stay in October 2012
My husband and I just returned from our long weekend stay at High Shelter Farm. What a beautiful property and apt. The property has magnificent views of the mountains (especially pretty during Fall foliage). The owners are great and so attentive to your needs. They will supply you with all the necessary information about the apt and the surrounding area. The apt has a beautiful kitchen that has every necessities you could ever want to make a full course meal, if desired and lots of windows to take in the view. The bedroom is huge with high-end sheets, pillows and comforter...so cozy and a big bathroom with a huge walk-in shower and a two person whirlpool tub. The living room is spacious and so comfortable. We had such a great time and hope to go back in the future. They are a pet-friendly property and because we travel with our 2 indoor cats made this property highly desirable to us.

I was looking to get away, and this farm stay was pure joy. The setting and accommodations are excellent, and the hospitality is great yet plenty of privacy, too. For me, one of the most charming aspects was Tammy, the Knights' wonderful dog, and I thoroughly enjoyed her company and playfulness; got to take her for a long walk, too. High Shelter is the best of the best!

Cos CobThe most peaceful Vermont mountain high private getaway!!
Left on 07/16/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My husband and I just spent a blissful weekend at High Shelter Farm and were delighted beyond any reasonable expectations. The farm house sits atop a mountain with gorgeous unobstructed vistas and a starry starry night's sky. The farmhouse guest quarters are beautifully decorated in a manner befitting a first quality country stay. The full kitchen is stocked to anticipate your late arrival and every cooking need. Outdoors is a wonderful pool surrounded by wild flowers, and an fire pit. We were hosted by a wonderful couple who are walking encyclopedias of the local history and current goings-on.

We had a wonderful stay at High Shelter farm. I am a gardener and Grace's garden was lovely. I even came away with several perennials for my own garden at home. The accomodations were spotlessly clean, very comfortable, with every amenity I could want.

Branford, CTWonderful in any Season- Plus a Jacuzzi!!
Left on 01/14/2012 for a stay in August 2010
With the barnyard only a short walk away, a number of hiking trails, a pool, and a wonderful landlord, this apartment was a delightfully charming way to spend my few weeks in Vermont. But, what topped it all was the luxurious Jacuzzi tub with massaging jets and a breath-taking view of Mount ascutney. It put me in a calming mood, and I must say that I plan to go back again.

Dripping Springs, TXA luxurious retreat
Left on 01/03/2012 for a stay in July 2011
We escaped the madness of summer in DC to the lovely views and temps in the mountains in VT. We were lucky to book a week at High Shelter farm, where we enjoyed the sheep, chickens and flowers on the property, as well as hiking on nearby Mt ascutney. The full kitchen, laundry facilities and speedy internet made our time there effortless. The firepit and some provided movies for the evenings were an added delight.
Comfortable bed and quiet room made sleeping in too easy, and the large soaking tub was a treat. We plan to return whenever possible, and are interested in trying the winter version of VT.
