Description from the owner
Stepping out of a narrow, winding street in the heart of Pernes you find yourself in a scene from the Arabian Nights-or might it be Petarch? An enclosed courtyard holds a spring fed pool, a wide terrace, greenery galore, a wooden pergola, romantic lighting: poetry that on a warm summer's night would melt the heart of the toughest pragmatist. From here into the 21st century: a cool haven of space with an airy feel, a minimilist decor, earth colours, natural fabrics, and plain good taste. Quirky touches too. You'll want to stay a while to experience both world's the ice-cube lamps against old stonework, the Art Deco style and the abstract art....Read more

Additional Location Information
Pernes-les-Fontaines is an ancient walled village whose origins go back to Roman times. It takes its name from the 37 fountains in the town. Pernes-les-Fontaines has a good range of shops and services, including excellent pâtisseries, boucheries, and fromageries, as well as a post office and a tabac.
Every Saturday morning, there is an excellent open-air market selling local farm produce. Within the walls of the old village, there is a Michelin recommended restaurant, just a five-minute walk from La Saga. A favourite restaurant is La Camarette about 1km from La Saga. It's a must for anyone who loves good food in a beautiful setting.
Every second year in July the Tour de France passes close to the village before the cyclists make the famous uphill climb to Mont Ventoux. Cycling is a great way to explore the local countryside, and two bikes are provided at La Saga for guests who may want to head into the hills of Les Dentelles de Montmirail.
There's also lots to see and do on foot, such as exploring the many nearby vineyards and villages. Many other leisure activities are available nearby, including tennis, horse-riding, motocross, and kayaking, and at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, there is an excellent 18-hole golf course with great views.

Swindon, United KingdomFantastic property in the heart of Provence
Left on 02/21/2013 for a stay in August 2012
Trying to find a property to suit all tastes in a party of 11 is a hard task. 2 teenagers, 2 twenty somethings, 6 forty somethings and Nan and Grandad. This place ticks all the boxes. Tucked away in a narrow residential street in the centre of Pernes les Fontaines it is difficult to imagine that a place this big is situated behind the outside walls. This place really is luxury with a pool and bbq set in a romanesque courtyard setting. Inside the furnishings are top quality with a great kitchen and very large bedrooms. The main bedroom opens out onto an upstairs patio area overlooking the pool. Ideally situated for all the sites of Provence the property is within walking distance of all the shops, restaurants and bars in Pernes with larger supermarkets a short drive away. It was 35c with unbroken sunshine during our stay. It would also be a great place to stay for Christmas. Highly recommended!!

Great house when you have a large group of people. We traveled with friends as well as our 4 year old. The inside courtyard at La Saga was amazing with a grill and pool. The town is pretty close to Chateau Neuf du Pape, Avignon and other must see locations in France. I highly reccommend this property. It was clean and fully equiped with everything we needed.

Brisbane, AustraliaAbsolutely fantastic week in this beautiful house - Jan 2012
Left on 02/04/2013 for a stay in January 2013
What a fantastic winter holiday, we thought it would be much colder and rainy, but we had great weather every day. Pete and Becky were exceptional hosts. They bent over backwards to ensure we had a great stay. We arrived late evening in our 9 seater hire car from the airport, and at our request, Becky arranged for some lovely food and drinks on arrival. Great instructions were provided on parking, opening the gate, key location, lights were on and the house was nice and warm including a cosy fire in the lounge. The house is perfect for even more than our group of 8. We all had comfy warm bedding, a huge kitchen with all you need to cook up a storm, including some staple supplies and herbs. There is fantastic music with airplay and large DVD selection as well as information on the local area. Just down the road was a brilliant bakery, butcher, ATM, supermarket and a couple of bars. Saturday morning was a fantastic local market which had fresh produce as well as some really good clothes, hats, scarves and other etc. The village was nice and quiet and very easy to walk or bike around and explore.
We were lucky Pete and Becky were in the area and got to meet them personally, so we had them over for dinner one night and all had a ball. They also offered and came over and cooked us a traditional french dinner which was delicious. Pete also arranged for bike hire for us all and they took us on a bike ride through the village and we stopped in a local bar for coffee and drinks. They provided us with information on what to do around the area good day trips and the information center in the village was also very helpful. There are many fantastic villages to visit all within 1 hours drive, so everyday we ventured out and about to explore the area, including wine tasting. Pete and Becky are lovely people and we hope to go back in summer so we can use the pool and see the vineyards and lavender in full bloom. This is a fantastic place for holidays winter, summer, spring and autumn. -

We have stayed at this lovely house two times now, and it has graciously accommodated our parties of 8-10. We love the house's location - walking distance from the center of Pernes-les-Fontaines, steps from the Saturday market, and at the center of Provence's Vaucluse. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped for cooking, the music collection engages every generation and mood, common rooms are spacious and comfortable. This past august, the pool became our family's favorite end-of-day treat, since temperatures were unseasonably high. Even in the 100 degree heat, the house felt cool, with fans in every bedroom, good cross-ventilation, and the beautiful courtyard pool.

We (age 9 to 85) just spent a wonderful week at La Saga. The town is charming, the residents were friendly, and everyone loved the fresh foods from the local farmers markets.
La Saga itself is wonderful. The house is clean, and spacious, with great breezes. Everyone enjoyed cooking on the six burner stove/double oven, and in the outdoor kitchen. The pool is the perfect size to cool off in, but too small if you are looking to swim laps. The owners have a hard cover House Book explaining how to use all the appliances (gourmet stove, dish washer, outdoor oven/grill, washer and dryer), offer suggestions regarding restaurants and markets, as well as vineyards.
The location is ideal if you are the adventurous type. We did group trips (kayaking) within twenty minutes of the house, and serious hiking within an hours drive. Everyone loved trips through lavender fields, vineyards, and Roman ruins.
We only wish we could have stayed longer to explore Provence even further. -

We didn't think La Saga could be even more beautiful than in the photos, but it truly is. It's an incredible home that comfortably fit 12 of us. We were there with our daughter and extended family - La Saga and its location had something special to offer to all three generations. The village is beautiful, with locally produced vegetables, meat and, of course, bread and pastries. But all of Provence is accessible from Pernes-les-Fontaines. We found the owners very responsive and accomodating, both before and during our stay. There was one slight problem with ants in the kitchen, but otherwise our stay was absolutely perfect and we hope to return soon. We recommend La Saga without reservation.

Left on 07/18/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We stayed here as a family for a summer vacation. The house was within walking distance to town attractions and great restaurants. It is a home of character with a well-equipped kitchen. If you decide to park, here make sure you have a very small car. If not, there are other places to park nearby. Be sure to walk along the quai Verdun and to dine at Côté Jardin (reserve first) and the art Gallery café along the quai as well. We would love to return here again!

The house is beautiful; on a narrow street in a small village within walking distance of restaurants, shops and historic sites. There were only six of us in a house suited for 12 so we had more than enough room to ramble around. The furnishings, baths and kitchen are all new and modern and everything we needed was included.
The owners were very accomodating and easy to work with. The people in the village were wonderful. Not many spoke much English but they were very helpful and tolerated our fractured French. We loved going out each day to buy fresh foods for dinner and just baked bread and croissants for breakfast. We area already planning to go back. -

Sutton ColdfieldLa Saga Review
Left on 07/18/2010 for a stay in June 2010
La Saga is a beautiful authentic French townhouse with all the modern comforts you could wish for. The small town is a short walk away and has everything you need. The pool at the house is perfect and our 2 yr old son loved it. There are lots of places to visit and the minature railway nearby is great especially for kids. Also close enough to visit avignon which is the nearest big town and has plenty of shops and ammenities. The location and accomodation are second to none is but if you stay here and want to vist outside Pernes-les-Fontaines you need to hire a car. We will definitely be going again.

Chicago, ILOur family's perfect stay at La Saga
Left on 07/08/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We loved La Saga for its central location - centre ville, in between the Luberon and the Cotes du Ventoux, its amenities - including a professional cook's kitchen, full laundry facilities and a beautiful pool, and its comfort. We shared the house with another family and found it quite spacious for 8 people. The house was ideally located near the center of town, only a few steps away from several boulangeries. We appreciated the convenience of a washer/dryer and dishwasher. Absolutely perfect stay!

Denver, COLovely Home in Heart of Provence
Left on 04/29/2010 for a stay in March 2010
This spacious home has all of the comforts needed to have a relaxing, comfortable stay in Provence. It is conveniently located in the quaint Provencial village of Pernes-les-Fontaines on a quiet street. Yet, it is only steps away from local shops including a patisserie, boulangerie, charcuterie and a sweet shop with the tastiest chocolate delights. The large kitchen and dining area, and large selection of cookbooks, allow you to create wonderful dinners with the local produce. Or if you prefer, there are a number of wonderful restaurants in the surrounding area. Pernes-les-Fontaines is close to many of the major sites in Provence; only about 30 km east of Avignon. La Saga has an incredible selection of CDs (great jazz collection!) and DVDs. The bedrooms are arranged with a lot of privacy for 3 couples traveling. The owner was in touch with us regularly leading up to and during our stay, answering any questions we had and providing information. Also, in the house were great suggesting for local attractions and restaurants. I look forward to a return to Provence and hope to stay longer at La Saga when we return!

This home far exceeded my expectations. Our room had a lot of storage space and the view was beautiful. We loved the gourmet kitchen which had everything we needed, especially for experienced cooks! I loved the large dining table where we could all enjoy a meal together. The location was perfect, we could walk to wonderful markets everyday for our shopping. I would highly recommend renting this home and our host was fun and very eager to make our stay plesant.

La Saga is the perfect holiday destination. The house is staggering, with everything you could need, and more. The pool is beautiful and just what is ideal for cooling off in the glorious Provence sunshine. Located in a lovely bustling village with markets, exhibitions and festivals galore, I could not have asked for anything better. I will definitely be returning to La Saga without a doubt!

CambridgeA week at La Saga
Left on 08/20/2009 for a stay in April 2009
On entering La Saga one is immediately impressed by the courtyard and the swimming pool. The pool is large and heated with seating and plants around the edges. External stairs lead up to a sunny terrace, also decorated with pot plants. The owner has done much to make this a very pleasant area in which to relax.
The house itself is extensive including a large well appointed farmhouse type kitchen leading through a doorway to a dining area with table seating for twelve. Step down from the open plan dining area and you are in the spacious lounge. A wonderful room this, with comfortable seating providing a cool environment on hot days. There is also a large open fireplace to provide warmth on chilly evenings.
Bedrooms are well furnished and comfortable. Some are large enough to be used as bed sitting rooms.
The situation of La Saga is in a quiet village street with parking outside. It is very close to the shops and bars. The village has everything you need for day to day living, and plenty of walks and places to see. Look through the helpful guide provided by the owner and you will discover excellent restaurants, activities and towns worth visiting, all within a short drive.
If you are looking to spend time in France, living the French style, then la Scala is probably the place for you. Just one word of caution. The proximity of the pool to the house would make this unsuitable for a family with infants or young children. Otherwise I have no reservation in wholeheartedly recommending this property to you. -

LondonThe most relaxing week for years!
Left on 08/11/2009 for a stay in May 2009
This was my first holiday in more than five years and we chose the perfect place.
The house is a hidden gem, and my partner and I both felt that the photos on the site didn't do it justice. It's totally secluded despite being in a town and is big enough to get lost in.
We were so relaxed by the end of our stay that we nearly forgot to leave.
Our advice is definitely to take the train. Really beautiful and not much longer than a Ryanair flight once when all is said and done. Certainly less stressful.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It's clean and easy to feel at home in immediately. Although we didn't have kids with us it would be safe and secure for them and there are enough places nearby to divert them. Worth taking a trip to the river at Goudarges for a swim and a meal there. Also some gorgeous nearby towns to explore.
A car would be handy...
Enjoy! -

santa fe, nmrestful respite with friends
Left on 08/11/2009 for a stay in May 2009
la saga was a great place for a friend filled holiday. for my week in residence, all but one of the bedrooms was in use. we came from all over to celebrate a birthday, and had a most enjoyable time. touring the spectacular region, shopping the local markets, cooking every night en masse...the location and home could not have been more perfect. pernes les fontaines is picturesque and delightful; the wine country, seaside, mountains and nearby villages are all accessible, history filled and fragrant - or if you feel like sitting quietly poolside with a good book you need only negotiate with your team. there was room for everyone to have solitude and together time, and the pictures of folks flopped on couches reading and napping, dancing about the kitchen and grill preparing sumptuous meals, and parading about on day trips will remain fondly in my mind. i only wish i had been assigned one of the "really big rooms", though my clean, white, third story bedroom was truly lovely.
