GlasgowCentral, full of Character but...!!
Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My husband and I along with my best friend stayed here 3 nights during our australian trip. Yes the house has plenty of quirky characteristics, but, it is only set up as two bedrooms not three. The door of the main bedroom did not close properly unless you applied the lock!! The second bedroom had two single "camp beds". The third room was another sitting room with no indication that it could be used as a bedroom.
My friend used the second bedroom and it was as well that there was not a second occupant as the camp beds were very noisy every time you moved!! Also there were no wardrobes in any of the rooms, just hanging rails and coat hangers.
Also I do not know what the electrical regulations are in australia for rental property, but there were so many trailing wires connected into one extension lead after another even to the extent of one running under a rug in the main bedroom, and another one ran from the hallway lamp under that door in order to be plugged in to a socket in this bedroom!!
This situation is maybe acceptable if it's your home but I feel it's not right if this is a property for the rental market.
Apart from that the location is within walking distance of shops, cafes, restaurants providing all that you may need for a stay in this area.Response from The Owner - 06/15/2012
Owner
Dear Mary,
Thank you for your review, I wanted to advise in respect to some of your comments. In the description of the house it does state that there are 2 bedrooms and the 3rd is the sitting room where there is a double bed settee. This bed will be made up and the room prepared as a bedroom when requested in a booking, your group was 3 people and so the sitting room was left as a living room .
Thy single beds are not 'camp beds' but metal framed as opposed to divan bases with standard depth mattresses. We will investigate any noise from these as there have been no negative comments previously. Yes there are no wardrobes only metal hanging frames with ample hangers and a storage cupboard and storage boxes in each of the 2 bedrooms.
The house dates back to approximately 1920 and has been totally rewired unfortunately some of the new power points are not in the correct places for some of the table lamps hence the need for extension boards.
At Central Character House it is very important that all our guests enjoy their stay and your comments will certainly be looked into.
Regards
Annie

I would like to thank annie for her warm hospitality service. It is an awesome experience to stay there especially travelling with my 17 month old child for the first time.
The location is centralised with easy access to Coles and Woolies with short driving distance. It is about 7 mins drive to city and 15 mins drive to the airport.
The self-contained house is cozy and comfortable to stay even with temperature dropped to 10 degree celsius in one of the nights. The garden is beautiful. The bushes in the courtyard are neatly trimmed and well taken care of.
Overall, we have enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much! -

We found the location of Character House superb; only 10 minutes drive to Perth City.
Access to the Swan Valley (a fantastic scenic area to explore) and the Fremantle was very easy. Would highly recommend staying here and hope to return.

I booked this house for my family to stay during my wedding day. Every parts of this house speaks the beauty of victorian style. The house has played an important part for me because I did my wedding make up preparation & photo shots here . Every part of the house either kitchen, the bed rooms, living room, the garden are great spots to take photos. Thank you annie for making our day lovely & I love your bed because it was super comfortable. It helped me to rest very well the night before my wedding day.

Vancouver, CanadaAll the comforts and convenciences of home away from home
Left on 01/08/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We arrived in Perth after a long flight from Vancouver, Canada. The age ranges of the passengers were from 10 to 75 plus. The home was better than what we thought it would be. Annie was the hostess with the mostess. She went above and beyond to ensure that we had what we needed in the home and even offered us the use of her private residence area if we wanted.
With the breakfast items, the character of the home, the convenient location, the accomodating nature of the hostess and of course her big smile, how can anyone give this place anything less than a 5. I only hope that annie has her flat screen TV now (the only thing my kids missed).Response from The Owner - 01/09/2011

Hi Rema,
Thanks Rema you were all such great guests. The flat screen TV was installed just before New Years Eve....sorry it was a bit too late for the kids...so come back please.

Best described as a "Home away from Home" rather than a rental house. You got the warmth and comfort the moment you walked in the front door.
Central to neally everything in Perth it was an ideal location to base the holiday.
The Owner went to extra effort whenever possible, and also recommended great restaurants and places to see, and was a delight to deal with.
Would definitely stay here again.

We often visit Perth to see family, but have been searching for the perfect place . . . and now we have found it. With a great location, cozy furnishings, and a gracious host we will try to stay here upon return visits. Annie even prepared the second bedroom for our toddler son, with books and, games, and rubber ducks for the bath!

We were very happy with our choice of the cottage as a base for our stay in Perth to catch up with family. The furnishings and appliances were of a high standard and annie, the owner, very generous and welcoming. The cottage is in a lovely area with lots of old cottage and close to shops, Perth city and the River. There is a busy road on one side of the house but we found that the traffic noise was not an issue at night. It was cold and wet for most of the time we were there but the house was warm and a lovely place to come home to at the end of the day. We would almost certainly want to stay there again when we next go to Perth.

Annie, the owner was fantastic! She greeted us with a warm welcome and made us feel like home! The house was cosy and very comfortable and we truly felt it like a home away from home.
The bedrooms were really comfortable, especially the lounge room with the sofa bed.
The kitchen is well equipped which makes cooking so much easier to prepare for a family of 5 or 6.
The bathroom is clean and nice with clean towels provided on the rack. The outdoor shower is a great alternative on a hot day.
The location is great as it is near Perth CBD, short walk to the shops at East Victoria Park with varieties of cafes along the strip.
I like this place and I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Perth and will recommend this place to anyone who plans to visit Perth.
Thanks Annie for making our stay a memorable one!

Central Character House has made our trip to Perth very enjoyable.
It is located conveniently near shops and restaurants, while just a short drive away from Perth city.
The house itself is beautiful and very homely. Personal favourite is the kitchen, this is the common area where me and my family hang out.
Definitely suitable for family or a group of friends (4-6) traveling together.
No doubt, this will be where I'll be staying when I'm next in Perth.Response from The Owner - 11/08/2009

This is our second visit to Character House in one year and we absolutely love staying here. We own a guest house 3 hrs south in Margaret River and are quite particular where we stay on our visits to Perth and so we were very lucky when we came across this little gem. The location is perfect for access to the city and within walking distance there are some wonderful cafes & restaurants The Profit being our favourite!). What we really love is the classy decor & comfort of this cottage, it is so well equipped and the attention to detail is what makes this place a home away from home. From the lovely fresh garden flowers, crisp bed linen & towels, selection of teas & coffees, magazines & info on all the local attractions and amenities. The owner is delightful and very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and will assist you with any of your wants and needs without any bother or stress. We always have a most relaxing stay and love sitting on the porch with a glass of wine during the summers evenings. We highly recommend this wonderful property when visiting Perth.
