Vacation rental on the Mendocino Coast, California

Albion cottage

“Wonderful experience” Although our hosts were not present on the property--they live in the main house nearby--this cabin was perfect for a getaway near the Mendocino Coast. There are beautiful gardens, less fog than on the coast, and total tranquility. It is and a well-appointed rental with living room, bedroom, and kitchenette. We highly recommend it.

“Love the cottage. Love the location. Love the hosts. What a wond” Many, many thanks for providing such a gorgeous "home away from home". The cottage is magnificent, so beautifully crafted, and you have thought of every last detail. Not only is the cottage as fine as it appears on the web,but far nicer! Spotless, well decorated, tranquil, and lovely! From the moment we arrived we felt like we were home. Every little detail is taken care of. It is obvious that both of you are skilled artists. Please know that we continually appreciated your creations all week. The walk through the redwoods to the waterfall was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this magical cottage with us, and thanks for your generous hospitality. We'll be back!

About Fort Bragg, California

Fort Bragg is a coastal city in Mendocino County. It has a long history, having been founded well before the American Civil War. The land originally belonged to the Pomo Native American tribe. Take a look at the museums to find out more about them.

History buffs will probably know it was more of a garrison than a fort, but that doesn't stop it being a great place to take a vacation! You can find out all about the military past of the area, or simply melt into your beach chair and enjoy the sun.

It's a great vacation destination throughout the year, thanks largely to the mild weather. The thermometer almost always reads 80 F. Keep an eye out for rain if you come between November and April.

If you think you may recognize the area, you're probably right. It's been the location for many films: The Majestic, Racing with the Moon, and the Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russel rom-com, Overboard.

What to do

Visit Glass Beach—it's right on the edge of town and has a long history. In the early 20th century, residents threw garbage over the cliffs. Now, it has been ground down into smooth pieces of sea glass that coat the beach—why not try collecting some?

There are several state parks to explore. Hike along trails, or take your bikes out to see them in all their glory.

We definitely suggest going whale watching. The magnificent Pacific grey whales usually come here in March and December during their migration. It's estimated that 20,000 whales pass the Mendocino Coast twice a year, so you're almost bound to see some!

Take a stroll through Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens—47 acres of garden and over 150 species of birds. This area is perfect for nature lovers.

Do you want to feel like you're in a movie? Go horseback riding along the beach and let the wind flow through your hair.

Top travel tips

Catch the 'Skunk Train' and take a journey through the redwoods. This old steam train has been running for years and is one of the best ways to see the forest.

Check out the events calendar before you go—there's almost always something on. Whether it's International Jazz Day or the Whale Festival, you're sure to have a great time.

The North Coast Brewing Company is one of the best in the state. Visit and sample some of their latest brews.

Fort Bragg is a great place to visit, with a little something for everyone, so should really be next on your list. Start planning your laid-back beach vacation by booking your rental property on FlipKey.
