Perched 500 feet on a hillside in the gated enclave of Upper Peter Bay is an elegant sanctuary in a mesmerizing setting. Villa Carlota offers five large air-conditioned bedroom/bath suites in three pavilions.

The villa's main pavilion features a spacious great room which incorporates a large gourmet kitchen bordered by a long countertop with stools. Adjacent is the dining area and a powder room right around the corner. On the other side of the great room is the living area with a 50-inch flat-screen satellite TV, a Bose sound system, and extensive movie and music collections. Louvered and screened mahogany doors open from the living are...a to the covered verandah with a large table for alfresco dining with a view.

From the great room, a curved staircase leads to the oversized second-level master suite and home office. This grand king master suite features a Ralph Lauren four-poster bed. A large air-conditioned walk-in closet is adjacent. Mahogany doors open to a pergola verandah on the ocean side of the pavilion, furnished with chaise lounges. The en-suite marble bath provides separate his-and her sinks linked by a massive wall-to-wall mirror, a Jacuzzi bathtub, and a separate glass-and-marble shower. Just outside the master bath is Villa Carlota's roofed hot tub pavilion with a coral stone floor. Although the spa pavilion is off the master suite, anyone may access the hot tub from the driveway courtyard or from the great room with a key.

Villa Carlota's third level is a second bedroom/bath suite, this one with a four-poster queen bed. The views from this suite's windows are spectacular.

Back at the terrace and pool just outside the main pavilion, a green 'bamboo' marble wet bar awaits with mini-fridge and icemaker ready for poolside libations and evening cocktails. A stainless steel professional gas rotisserie grill built into a stone grilling area allows for great grilled meals inside or out – the area easily connects to kitchen and dining area via a rear hallway.

Villa Carlota's second pavilion is on the other side of the pool terrace, offering two centrally-air-conditioned king bedroom/bath suites on two levels for excellent privacy.

On the lower level of this pavilion is the laundry room with two washers and two dryers; this area has a private service entrance so that the housekeepers may enter the house from the driveway courtyard without coming through the villa's main entry. A small exercise room adjoins the second pavilion, screened to let the trade winds in. The driveway courtyard has ample parking and turning space for three cars, and an outside shower for after-beach rinse-offs.

Across this courtyard is the charming Cottage Suite, nicely secluded from the rest of the property. Air-conditioned, it is distinguished by cool travertine tile, a living area with a balcony overlooking the main villa, a full bath, a small kitchen with a covered patio for alfresco meals, and on its upper level, a king (or two-twin) bedroom with a full bath, a large verandah off to its side, a step-out balcony in front, and an en-suite bath.

  The house was spectacular, Island social life on St Johns is very low... but the view and villa was outstanding. I am not sure what you do to recognize special people... but Theresa did an outstanding job each day to clean and make sure we had all we needed and everything was in order... did an outstanding job . The finest of the finest was Shanna at Blue Sky... we ate in the home most times and she was fantastic with provisions.. .every little thing we asked for she brought to the house.. even made a special trip for one cuccumber and a lemon... WOW... We have stayed at houses all over the world and never have we had provision service like Blue Sky... .you should recognize her and make sure all your future guest use Shanna and Blue Sky... truly amazing company and service. - John E., Georgia, USA

  This house served its purpose for the most part providing a fantastic view and ample room for 10. I like the privacy of the guest suites and the bathrooms were very nice. The outdoor dining area and furniture were wonderful as well. Parking was sufficient. Beach chairs were much appreciated as well. On the negative side, the two burner cooktop in the kitchen was inadequate for our needs. We were informed on arrival that the outside speakers didn\'t work. The pool was another huge disappointment. I would not rent this home again because of the cold pool water. We barely used the pool because the water was so cold. Another huge disappointment were the pillows on the beds, or lack thereof. 2 totally crappy pillows per bed are not enough. The master bedroom bed was a problem as well. It kept falling off its supports, leaving the middle of the bed sagging. I have rented homes 5 times now on St John and this home needs some upgrades. - James C., Ohio, USA

  St. John was a wonderful island to visit. Had made day trips there before but this was the first extended stay. Our concierge Lucille was very responsive and her assistance was quite valuable in working out logistics. I would say that the concierge service is one of the primary reasons I\'ve utilized Luxury Retreats for 6 different trips. Villa Carlota was a well kept property with good amenities. The property portfolio in many preferred locations is essential to my choice of provider. The welcome gift received upon arrival from the owner was a classy unexpected touch. More owners should show such care.
