Description from the owner
Fen-Acre is an ideal base for discovering the Eastern counties and an ideal place to come home to each evening, spacious and homely with all mod cons. Eastside was originally built as a grandparents annexe, one of whom was an occasional wheelchair user. The Lodge is a separate unit adjacent to the main house. Both are fully self contained having their own entrances and designated parking directly outside the doors. Both are on one level with doors wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair if necessary and equipped to a very high standard. Gas central heating and all linen included in cost. The welcome hamper includes the ingredients for...Read more

rented both East side and the lodge to stay with friends and family. Felt very much like a home from home- all the mod-cons and spotlessly clean.

This is our second visit in 2 months (which says a lot in itself). Julie and Bub are great hosts with a fund of knowledge about the area, and a strong desire that the guests should have an enjoyable and relaxing visit. Any small problems (e.g. the radiator in the bedroom not working) were quickly remedied.
Eastside is very well equipped with just about everything that you'd need to use during a visit, and the shops in Crowland village can be easily reached either on foot or by car if you need milk, bread, etc;. The village is worth a visit in its own right, and Eastside is very well located for visiting many sites in the wider area - we'd both highly recommend it. -

Our host Julie was very helpful even changing our duvet when we found the current one too warm. Being able to sit outside on the decking in the evening was very pleasant as is sitting in the conservatory. Generally very well equipped although the omission of a flower vase and a proper oven glove was irritating. Local dining facilities are around although most did not look very inviting. The local Chinese (take away only) is very good as is the local Italian Guiliano's whose food is excellent.
The property is situated next to a fairly busy road and traffic noise can be an irritant if you open the windows for ventilation. Plenty of tourist information in the property. -

Enjoyed our stay at Eastside immensely. Met by Julie on arrival and she could not have been more helpful. Accommodation is extremely well equipped and includes a lot of the little things other owners don't think about eg. sewing repair kit, dishwasher tablets and welcome food and drink pack. Would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Fen acre is exceptional its home from home. We don't think there is anything that hasn't been thought of for your stay there. The quality of everything is so good and the extra touch of having a starter breakfast pack was fantastic.Highly recommended.

We arrived without our luggage (lost by the airline) and Julie & Bubbs went out of their way to assist us with phone calls and information, we couldn't thank them enough. The accommodation was extremly comfortable with a fully equiped kitchen. The breakfast basket was excellent and a very nice touch. The site is only a short walk into Crowland in a quiet street. We hope to come back and stay again.

We received great service - the welcome hamper was lovely, the owner helped us find a local taxi company & it was very clean and well looked after. We liked the house, the kitchen was well equipped and the bedroom was lovely. We could have done with a bath ideally for our young children, but it was ok for the weekend. The location was perfect for us as we needed to be in Peterborough over the weekend. Overall great value for money

Excellent accomodation - easy to book, fair price, good location & warm welcome from Julie. the added home comforts (bread, milk, cereal, eggs, bottle of wine etc) were much appreciated & more that expected.
If we ever get another contract in/near Peterborough we will definately be in touch.

Fen-Acre was one of the most well equipped self catering accomodations I have ever stayed in. The welcome basket left by the Smiths was a real treat. Everything was clean and tidy with plenty of towels supplied. Having internet access was a god-send, especially with a teenager present!! The dishwasher and tumble dryer made life a lot easier too. Overall highly recommended.

All aspects of out stays at Fen Acre have been 5 star. The accomodation is
probably better than at home (the weather usually is too!) The shower is
superb - much loved by our granddaughter, especially the shower radio.
The welcome pack is just what it says - makes the first evening / morning
much easier. We also appreciate the scones in the freezer and, especially,
the bottle of wine.
The appartment is 10 minutes walk from our daughter but also very handy
for Spalding and, when the roadworks are finished, Peterborough. Crowland
is a lovely little town and, while we find the walking a bit boring compared
to our own neighbourhood there are several walks in the area we can
do,.We especially appreciate the use of the garden and swings for our
granddaughter to play in, and, of course, Sam.
Downside is the traffic noise - the main road is so near, especially in the
summer when the windows are open. Once the new road is finished, this
will cease to be a problem. The overhead skylight in the lounge is not
conducive to a good night's sleep for our daughter in the summer when a
beam of sunlight wakens her in the early hours, although we appreciate the
light it gives during the day. Same applies to the very transparent curtains
in the bedroom - we are used to a darker bedroom, but this is probably not
a problem for most visitors.Response from julie smith - 03/02/2010

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our accommodation here at Fen-Acre. It's good to have feedback and it has been useful to read about the light at night from the sun pipe and the curtains. We've never slept there but even if we had we probably wouldn't have given it a thought as the last thing we do at night is pull back the curtains!
You've drawn our attention to the fact that not everyone likes to sleep in the way we do so I've been out and purchased some blackout lining curtains and that has certainly sorted that issue out. We're still pondering over what to do re the sun pipe. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. -

My wife and I loved every minute of our stay in Fen-Acre. We received a warm welcome and the welcome basket of food etc was gratefully received. Julie and Bub were lovely hosts, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The house itself was immaculate and had everything we were likely to need. The village of Crowland is delightful, quiet, but with plenty of amenities, and we enjoyed visiting some of the beautiful towns and villages in the area, as well as major attractions such as Cambridge and Sandringham. Julie had also provided a very useful folder containing details of local places of interest and we found this very helpful. We would certainly love to go back and would strongly recommend Fen-Acre to anyone visiting the area. Our only concern was that anywhere else we stay in future is likely to prove a disappointment!

We stayed for one week. The place is located in a cosy corner of the town of Crowland, which has a fascinating history. Visiting the Abbey is a must. Everything you need is in the small town, just 10 minutes walk away. Visit The Old Copper Kettle for great food and tea or coffee.
Fen-Acre is superbly located just minutes drive from Peterborough, or Spalding, if you want a big town, and various villages, if you are looking for serenity.
The accommodation is perfectly suited for a couple of any age, or a small family (up to 4). The house is a perfect size, and has all the modern amenities one needs in a home-away-from-home. The welcome basket is great - especially the local farm eggs! They even have a variety of umbrelas for use on a rainy day. Fortunately we didn't need one at all during our time there!
A reassuring thing is that the owners are next door, so you don't have to go very far if you need assistance for anything.
All in all, you won't regret staying there. You are guaranteed a leisurely stay in a beautiful part of the country.

Fen Acre was ideally situated for us to visit my husband's home town of Peterborough. The apartment was fully equipped with everything you need for your stay. It was delightfully furnished and Julie made us very welcome. We had a interesting day visiting Eli and a must see visit to Stanford and Burghley House.
Definitely somewhere I would visit again -

We could not fault the Fen Acre Cottage one single iota. It had every amenity you could wish for and was beautiful throughout.
Our only disapointment was the remoteness of the small village where it was located, with not a lot to see or do there unless you were prepared to do lots of travelling each day(which is what we did do). But we used it as a base and were out every day. As said there is not much in that part of Lincolnshire but the Fen Acre cottage was always a warm and welcome haven to return to each night.
