Just back from a week long stay at The Old Shooting Lodge staying in one of the wooden lodges. We paid £500 for the week during the kids holidays and it has to be one of the bargains of all time. The lodge more than comfortably slept our party of 6 with its 3 bedrooms. The living area is just brilliant and the outside surroundings teriffic. Our 2 kids played football and ran around for hours in a very safe picturesque setting. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. We were in the area visiting family and its a very convenient location for all the local villages or the larger coastal towns. The lodge has an equipment spec that is better than ours at home and we even arrived to a welcome pack of the basics to start us off on a great holiday. Will definitely be back

brilliant holiday in a brilliant lodge

Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012

had a great stay in the timber lodge got a pack of breakfast goodies from the owners which was a nice touch
when we arrived at our lodge everything was spotlessly clean and the owner was really welcoming and friendly we will definately be staying here again
lots and lots to do in the area "Aden park "is a must for young and old alike there is a path down to the old railway which is now used as a cycleway/pathway and takes you into the park itself where you can view the old farm machinery in the musuem and view the old farm house and steading as it was in the 50's
nearby Mintlaw has a really good local shops the bakers and the butchers are really top notch produce
highlights of our trips out with the kids were the lighthouse musem in fraserburgh if you go take the tour its worth every penny
and the marine aquariun in Macduff was really great especially as when we came back out to our car 5 or 6 dolphins were jumping about in the bay in front of us

      Relaxing, cozy accommodation

Left on 04/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012

This was our first stay at Cedar Lodge, to visit family and friends in the local area. We received a warm welcome and good introduction to the amenities from Neil. There was an unexpected snowfall during our stay, so being able to control the central heating and light the wood-burning fire was a bonus.
On our final day, there was a problem with water supply in the general area, outside the control of the proprietors. However, Neil was quickly on hand with bottles of water, until the problem could be rectified by the water board.
The lodge is very comfortable, well furnished and clean. The proprietors are unobtrusive, but available if you need a helping hand.
Pleasant walks are available (without taking the car) around Pitfour Lake and the surrounding wooded areas, or a short drive away at aden Country Park. Mintlaw is the nearest village, which has all the essential shops.

we stayed here with my daughter and her two children aged 1 yr and 4 yrs. the guys could not do enough for us and made the children so welcome, made up a cot for us, high chair the lot, even a wee sweet for them, all these touches did not go un noticed. always find it very difficult travelling and staying in hotels with children you always get uptight in case they are annoying other guests but not so here - all the facilities in the cabin - both inside and out - were outstanding - nothing we could fault whatsoever - thanks a million guys - we really did appreciate all your kind efforts

A lovely peaceful location in a beautiful, well equipped, very clean wood cabin. An unexpected food starter pack which was very thoughtfully chosen. Although we were here in July it would make a lovely winter break with the wood burning stove. Local amenities are very close by, lots of castles and wonderful beaches with aberdeen nearby for great shopping! Neil made us feel very welcome and our stay very comfortable. We would definitely recommend a visit.

My daughter and I stayed here for 10 glorious days. The chalet was fantastic. They are decorated to a very high standard, absolutely spotless, and comfortable. The owners Mark and Neil could not have been more helpful, they were friendly and could not do enough, while leaving you in peace. The welcome pack of food was indeed a very great addition and extremely generous. Everyone who visited us was very impressed and would love to stay here as it was stunning.I would thorouhly recommend this wonderful establishment and will go again when in the area. The facilities for dogs was excellent, my dog loved it, a whole paddock and field for her to run around was heaven. Excellent, can't praise it enough...

A great place for people who like to do their own thing. In a quiet, rural, but centrally located part of Buchan, the chalet contained everything necessary for a stress-free, self-catering vacation - all home comforts being provided. All that is needed is some groceries, but even this can be avoided with the local eateries nearby. In an area of great natural beauty, steeped in tradition and history, you are assured of a warm welcome from Neil & Mark - nothing is too much trouble. We stayed a week, and wished it could have been much longer.

      Relaxation

Left on 08/18/2010 for a stay in August 2010

First time we have stayed in a lodge and we thought it was cosy, very clean, relaxing and welcoming. It's like a basic home from home sometimes we lost our mobile signal but that just added to the relaxation. Staff are really friendly and willinging to help you when help / advice is needed.

On arrival there is a welcoming pack which contains information on places to visit and things do to, which was good as we had never been to Scotland before and I thought this was really helpful, not knowing what was about. You are only about 5 - 10 mins (or even less) drive to local shops.

You are not time restricted for coming and going but are expeceted to consider other guess staying in the area regarding noise late on a night which I think is very good.

We are hoping to come back again next year for a longer stay to sightsee more as we didn''t have enought time this time, as there is so much to do in and around the surrounding area.

Our children took their ps and ds with them and this kept them entertained while they were in the lodge on the evening, but they missed the internet, but upon speaking with one of the staff we were informed that they are already looking into internet service/equipment, which I think is good.

Left on 08/02/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The only negative was the lack of signage to the Lodge and had to ask an aggressive local hotel owner for directions, to which I refrained to make use of the Hotel for the rest of my stay.

The Lodge was very well equipped, well situated and met every need I was looking for. Friendly welcome and offer of assistance when required was appreciated.

Staying in this lodge made our vacation very flexible, coming and going as we wanted; Also it was excellent when traveling with children, when cooking and laundry facilities are important. And if you should tire of the outdoor experiences in this area, there's also TV and Dvd-player, and some board games available! Very nice - thanks for having us.

Absolutely stunning wooden cabin with full central heating, all the mod cons you can dream of and so much space!
It really was like a home from home, only much tidier than my own house : )

Our dogs took to it in no time and it was a nice quiet safe and cool place to leave them in the day when we couldn't take them out in the car on really hot days.

Neil and Mark thought of absolutely everything you would need and it was there. Wok, egg cups, you name it.

A short drive to the shops and the wonderful aden country park. Also an excellent place to convalesce with rolling country walks a short distance away.

What a fantastic place to stay, the lodge was so fanastic had everything yu needed. Mark and Neil where so helpful and excellent hosts. Would reccommend this holiday home and area a great place to stay. Its convenient to aberdeen airport, the walks along the beeches and sand dunes and the countryside surrounding the lodges was great. Lots of places to shop and dine.
The area is so beautiful we thought Ireland was green and lush until we visited this area of Scotland the views of rolling hills and fields, so much open space it was totally awesome and took our breath away. The Lodges themselves were so comfortable and the setting idylic. If you dont fancy self catering they do B&B; and if the lodges had anything to go by the main house would be as well.

We stayed for 4 nights in one of the two brand new holiday lodges and we were highly delighted with the whole experience.

The booking procedure was swift and efficient and, when we arrived after a long journey, we received a warm and friendly welcome and were shown into immaculately clean accommodation with all the mod cons and facilities you could wish for.

The lodge is homely and comfortable in every way and the proprietors cannot do enough to ensure that your stay is as pleasant as possible.

If you are partial to peaceful surroundings and seclusion this is the place for you. When you open the bedroom curtains in the morning and see cattle in the field close by, a wild rabbit or two right outside the window and the odd pheasant strolling by you know that you have got away from it all !

Within a mile of this tranquil setting is the pleasant village of Mintlaw where the self caterer is adequately provided for with groceries etc. There are Chinese, Indian and fish and chip takeaways too. The "Happy Plant" garden centre and gift shop is a must for a meal, a snack or even just a coffee.

We have every intention of returning to this part of the world and no prizes for guessing which accommodation we shall choose.

Stayed in this brand new log cabin whilst on a shooting holiday, the cabin was superb. We were met by Mark Gurney on our arrival and when shown inside he had taken the time to provide bread, milk, butter etc which was a god send after a 9hr drive. Mark could not do enough for us during our stay, the facilities inside the cabin were also immaculate am looking to go back to Scotland next year and will be contacting Mark for sure to re-book this lodge.
Book here first before anywhere else or you will be dissappointed.
