TOUR DE FRANCE! Stage 7 of the 2013 Tour de France is running past our village and through Pezenas, just 3 km away. We still have that week open for bookings, if you'd like to see the greatest bicycle race in the world up close.
Charming maison with the most spectacular roof terrasse you have ever seen, in a medieval hilltop village. The terrasse is completely private, so you can sunbathe in complete, glorious seclusion, relaxing on a comfy chaise on its tiled floor, hidden behind its pretty walls. Stand up, and the view over those walls is stunning, as you can see for miles over the surrounding rolling hills and vineyards. The terrass...Read more

LondonHome from home in rural France

This is a well appointed property which comfortably accommodates a family. It was very clean on arrival, fully furnished, the kitchen has everything you need for basic cooking and the extra WC was very useful. The enormous roof terrace is very private and a real boon. The village itself is lovely, historic buildings, friendly people and good basic shops. It is a bit more upmarket than some of the other villages in the general area. It's well appointed in terms of travelling, close to the major routes and within a grid of smaller roads interconnecting all the main towns in close proximity that you would want to visit.
The owner was extremely helpful from day 1 through to a speedy return of the deposit and was generous enough to share local knowledge which greatly enhanced our stay.
This is a beautiful part of France, breathtaking scenery, unpretentious people, good beaches/mountains within half an hour and great for fresh locally sourced high quality food and wine. -

There were four adults in our party. We found the house very comfortable, we all felt at home. The rooftop terrace was lovely, what a view. The two flights of stairs to the terrace kept us fit, completely worth it for a barbeque in the evening. Locals very friendly. Would definately recommend it.

We took our two children (aged 2 and 4) and spent an enjoyable week staying in this quiet village. It has everything you need for a week's holiday and is surrounded by lots of interesting places to visit, including nearby Pezenas. The owner left a helpful itinary of things to do and see. The weather was perfect and the roof terrace an added bonus on which to spend time relaxing during the evenings.

We had a wonderful stay at Carolyn's place. The house is as described by the host (small village surrounded by several vineyards). The terrace has a very nice view on the church and the moutains. The house is well located, not too far from the sea (Bouzigues, Meze, marseillan etc.), several small old villages (Pezenas, st-guilhem etc) and nice caves (Grotte de Clamousse, grotte des Demoiselles etc). Carolyn gave us a lot of information about the region, what to visit and where to swim - it was well appreciated. My teenagers swam in the river nearby and enjoyed it. Yes, the croissants from the bakery are excellent! Thank you for the stay Carolyn! Sylvie, Gatineau, Quebec

This is the first time we have rented a house and so were not sure what to expect but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely do this again. The village of Castelnau de Guers is quiet and peaceful. As for the location; this was perfect for driving through the french country side visiting beaches and towns for sight seeing plus very convenient for general shopping. The addition of the roof terrace was lovely, in the evening particularly as it became too hot in the mornings. The house itself porvided everything and more. Although we barely used the lounge area it was comortable and had everything available including wifi access. The kitchen was fully equipped and there were basic foodstuffs available for use also if you needed them. We could even have done some washing but we didn't get around to that somehow. We had a contact person if we needed any advice on the area both before and during our stay. The contact with the owner was also quick and easy. We thoroughly enjoyed the week and wish we'd had longer! would definitley recommend this house and areas to anyone. There were only two of us but the house was easily big enough for 4 people. Great value for money and we would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

We were so comfortable here, and our stay was so affordable for the space and amenities we had. The owner and manager went out of their way to be helpful and answer all our questions. The town of Castlenau-de-Guers was itself charming and interesting. With an excellent artisan bakery and a small produce market just a very short walk from the house we couldn't have been happier. Highlights were walking in the vineyards in the evening, swimming in the river, and touring the nearby area, especially Pezenas, Carcassonne, and St. Guilhem le Desert.

We had such a lovely time here. The village dates back to the 8th century and has castle ruins, a small village square, a little grocery, boulangerie, and cafe. Just what you need for very basics and then a 5 minute drive to Pezanas where you can get everything else. The village is surround by vineyards and there is a lovely winemaker - Christopher from Domaine Castelnau that gave us a private tour and a fantastic tasting session. We walked through the vineyards every morning and swam at the river as well. Everyone we encountered was friendly and we felt like we were probably some of the only tourists there so we got the feel of a traditional southern France village. The place was perfect for a family of four. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, good wifi for connectivity, good shower, and the terrace is the best! We had most of our meals up there - beautiful sunsets over the vineyards and quiet - really a very quiet little spot in general. The location was excellent for exploring mediterranean beaches (20 minute drive), historic sites, and vineyards. We were there for a week and wished we had at least one more!

One of the nicest holidays ever, in a countryside of unbelievable beauty. The "maison" is roomy and comfortable. The villagers are hospitable and fun to be with. There's a lovely, safe beach on a river (the Herault) running through town, and good shopping (and great food) in nearby Pezenas. The villa has wireless internet access, making it easy to stay in touch with the rest of the world -- if you really want to!

We have just returned from a month in Castlenau-de-Gers.
We really loved the house, the medieval village and the very interesting Pezenas, with it's history, architecture, restaurants and craft shops. Good market every Saturday.
There is so much to do in the area that a month was not at all too much, provided you have a car. Surprisingly for us we even found the bed and the sofa comfortable for that length of time unlike so many other places we have been.
The Terrace, however, is the outstanding feature of the house. It is totally private when you lie down but has great views in all directions when you stand up.

LondonLovely week in Castlenau de Guers
Left on 04/05/2011 for a stay in October 2011
This is a fantastic location, in the heart of a medieval town, nestled up against the vineyards of Languedoc. Pezenas and Bezier nearby are food shopping heavens, and the bakery, a 2 minute walk from the door, means fresh eggs and the best croissants I've ever had, every morning.
The house is perfectly set up for two couples or a family, the kitchen has all you need to cook up feasts, and the terrace on the roof is stunning. It's clean and very reasonably priced. I definitely felt we were getting real value for money, which meant that we went all out on food and wine. Nearby attractions make having a car a good idea, however. We'll absolutely go back!
