    Additional Location Information

The Casco Bay Cottage: The location of the Caso Bay Cottage in West Point makes an ideal “home base” for any vacation you choose. For those who “need to get away from it all” you can spend your entire vacation in West Point. Guests can lazily relax on our decks overlooking the ocean, or perhaps take a short stroll to Cat Cove for swimming and shell collecting. Cat Cove is a great location to launch your kayaks for a day of exploring nearby harbors and islands. A short trail through the piney woods leads to a secluded rocky area that is fun to explore. Among the rocks are tide pools where some of the locals learned to swim. Look for sea creatures that are trapped in the pools! Bring your fishing poles for an early morning of fishing. The rocks are a good place to cast your line in. Be sure to keep a look out for eagles, loons, cormorants and seals! A Maine vacation must is fresh seafood for a lobster or clam bake. You can take a leisurely stroll down to the local lobster pound for the fresh catch of the day.

History: For those of you who enjoy more history and more activity, West Point and its surrounding areas provide just that. West Point is one of the oldest and scenic fishing villages in Maine. Many of the locals are descendants of the original fishermen who settled here. Close to West Point is historic Popham. Popham is one of the earliest English settlements during Colonial America being settled in 1607. Though it was unsuccessful it led to later settlement along the Maine coast. Popham State Beach is a beautiful 500 acre beach of white sand. It is definitely worth a visit. When the tide is out, you can walk across the beach to a nearby island. Fort Popham, from the Civil War years is close by and is ready to be explored.
The nearest city to West Point is Bath, “the City of Ships”. Maine’s first ships were built here in this area around 1607-1608. If you are interested in shipbuilding the Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into Maine’s boat building past.

Shopping and exploring: Quaint shops and restaurants make Bath a fun day trip. Boat rentals can be found in Bath for touring or fishing the Kennebec River. Golf courses are also in the area. To the north of Bath is Boothbay Harbor. It is another excellent day trip for vacationers! It has shops, restaurants and antiques. Whale watching, Puffin watching and lighthouse boating excursions are available at the wharf. Brunswick, another historic town nearby offers shopping, restaurants, Bowdoin College and the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum. L.L.Bean’s flagship store is located south in Freeport. It is opened 24 hours a day and is a good place to go on rainy days. Freeport also has many name brand outlets. Portland is about an hour away and has many historic sites, shopping and great restaurants as well.

After many request we now offer sea kayak rentals on site for exploring the coast and harbors. Both singles and tandems.

Perfect place to spend our 5 year anniversary!

Left on 05/01/2013 for a stay in October 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Casco Bay Cottage the third week of October last year. We wanted the romantic experience of a Maine cottage in a small town in the off season. Finding this cottage was exactly what we were looking for and more! It was very nice, yet also very cozy and homey feeling. And by cozy, I do not mean small. It was very roomy, but very warm, inviting and comfortable as well. We had a wonderful Maine vacation kayaking the bays, exploring hiking trails and visiting neighboring towns with beautiful harbors and lighthouses.

What could have made this trip any better? A great property owner who was very easy to work with and accommodating of our needs!! And then there was the onsite caretaker, Bill, who was so very helpful and never made us feel as though we were a burden although we pestered him constantly! :)

When it was time to go we drove away with one thought on our minds...when can be make it back??!!

      Great Vacation

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in September 2010

I can't say enough good things about this house. We had a fantastic time. The little village it is in is also very charming and nice. The house had everything we needed-plenty of pots and pans and dishes. The bedrooms were small but it just added to the cottage feel. The views from the house were amazing .The pictures they have on the site really don't do it justice. You need better pictures. The location of the house made for the perfect hopping off point for day trips to Boothbay Harbor, Pemaquid and Freeport on the rainy days we had. Popham beach is also only minutes away which was nice. I might suggest you get a season pass for your guests. We had one at another place we stayed at down in this area before- just a thought. Also, great location for putting in your kayaks. We went on several excursion along the coast-nice spot. We even used their two man kayak to take the kids out into the harbor and the closer islands. Another thing of note was the tap water in the house was crystal clear- other places we have stayed at along the coast have not always had the nicest water to say the least. Very impressed!!! The booking process was also very pleasant. John and Courtney were very helpful and patient with all of our questions. The property manager Bill was also very good and helpful. We had an issue with the satellite tv and he came down and fixed it very quickly while we were out and about. I am booking this week for next year we can't wait to get back..
