A most enjoyable and relaxing holiday!

Left on 08/21/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Myself, my daughter-in-law and her children stayed with Giovanna at the end of June. It was a treat - a wonderful experience, which will be hard to surpass or forget. The welcome we received from Giovanna and her family was second to none. They couldn't have been more helpful, and interested in making the holiday memorable for us. They guided us to the best trattorias locally and to the wealth of historic sites to be found in the area. The scenery is breath-taking and diverse ranging from the mountains down to the plains. The house is in a small village, but within easy access to many of the major towns of the area. There is a bar, and a bakery where we went each morning for fresh bread, to enjoy on the balcony. The children have been introduced to a lovely lifestyle - where they were made such a fuss of, and included in every activity. We have great memories to recall until our next visit.

      Relaxing in a Magnificant Location

Left on 08/19/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Giovanna and her husband Cesere made us feel so welcome without intruding on our stay in their apartment. We arrived late on our first day to find a meal ready in the fridge; homemade Lasagna, made with fresh pasta, a salad and wine plus some fresh bread and milk, after a long drive it was just perfect. During the 2 weeks we were there we spent a few evenings taking coffee and homemade liquors with the family, their children live nearby, we got lots of information on the area and where were the best places to visit.
The whole area is full of places of interests. The Medieval Castle of Vigoleno recognised as the 2nd most beautiful Castle in Italy and Castle a'rquato. As are the local cities of Fidenza, Cremona, Piacenza and Bussetto the home of Giuseppi Verdi. There are many markets to attend on different days of the week in local towns, we really enjoyed the one in Fidenza where we bought handbags and stocked up on dried mushrooms to take home. We bought nearly all our fruit and vegetables from these markets, everything was so fresh.
Salsomaggiore which is a really beautiful Spa Town which has a Thermea where my husband and I went on a few occassions, it was exceptional value compared to at home.
The locals were extremely friendly and helpful, many managed to help us with our requests in poor Italian. For lovers of great food this is one of the best areas in Italy to visit, the local Trattorias were wonderful and all served the traditional food of the area at half the price we pay at home.
We had one morning with Giovanna who is a wonderful Cook making pasta from scratch, we had enough food for a few days after freezing it.
Every morning it was a delight to get up and visit the Bakery next door and eat our breakfast on the balcony. We would then take a walk up the hill to get our exercise before heading off for the day, it was an excellent place to have as a base for the holiday as we also travelled from Fidenza by train to Florence and Cinque Terra.
