Description from the owner
A 16th Century fully restored towered Norman manor house located on the edge of a tiny hamlet. We offer guests the use of three oak beamed and beautifully decorated rooms - all are en-suite with both showers and baths. The bedrooms overlook the gardens and there is an evening terrace for guests to use.
Specialising in Tours of the D Day beaches and landing grounds the Manor is set in the heart of the 82nd Airborne drop zones. Much fierce fighting took place around the Manor on the 6th June 1944 and details are on display in the tower armoury.

Layton, Utah USABest tour guide in Normandy
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in April 2013
There were four of us inour party april 2013. We came to Normandy to see where our fathers landed and displayed the kind of courage I wonder if we would have it today.
Ben created a story of the landing and the ensueing days which allowed us to gain immense knowledge and emotions of the sacrifices displayed those days almost 70 years ago. His knowledge is unsurpassed and his ability to impart it to us helped to make our visit a highlight of our lives.
With his wife Jaye and their Manoir as our setting, we had not only a trmendous educational visit but a glorious time when we arrived home each night. Jaye is a master Chef and created meals and an atmosphere of warmth and delight.
To give them perhaps the greatest compliment possible; we intend to return and stay with them again in the coming years. so if you are undecided as to whom to use for your guide and their knowledge etc, you will not do any better than Ben Trumble and D Day Tours.
Plus, their Manoir is amazing!! Do yourself a favor and go with Ben on your visit to Normandy.

Left on 05/14/2013 for a stay in October 2012
Our entire experience - from reservations to being dropped back off at the train station - was just wonderful. Ben and Jaye really treated us like extended family and made us feel so welcome in their lovely home. They were so friendly and helpful, and quite flexible (as we ran into some arrival delays).
Ben really knows his history and brings it to life. He also made it personal, sharing the stories of a few specific service members he researched over time - from their family to their military service. He showed us where they perished and their graves at the cemetery, bringing it all full circle.
We saw some tour groups at just two of the sites - that's when we realized just how valuable our investment was with Ben. We felt like Vips. He tailored our visit to some of our specific areas of interest (the 1st Infantry Division) and did some extra homework before our arrival to include stories of 1st id's involvement. His personal touch was what made this trip so special - we would not have had the same experience with a group and certainly could not have navigated everything on our own in such a short amount of time.
We also had two teenagers with us, and Ben did a great job in keeping everyone interested. Jaye was accommodating of some special requests we had with food and her cooking was superb!
We had just two days with Ben and Jaye; we wish we could have stayed longer but still got to see and learn a lot in the two days we were there.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for us. I read the reviews on his web site, as well as Tripadvisor and what everyone said was true. If you are going to Normandy, this is the way to have the once-in-a-lifetime experience. I will be recommending Ben and Jaye to everyone who goes to Normandy.

We stayed with Ben and Jaye (April 2013) for 3 nights in the middle of
our 10 days in Normandy. It was a respite; at the same time, the best
guided tour we could have asked for. We felt right at home staying at the Manoir with Jaye's cooking and good care. Ben made June 1944 come alive, as he drove us around to different sites that you read about in Ryan's "The Longest Day", Ambrose's "D Day" and watch on "Band of Brothers". With Ben's narrative, it was haunting. My father fought in Europe (1944-45). On the last day of our stay, we were at the american Cemetery located in Colleville-sur-Mer at sunset as the american Flag was being lowered. We were given the privilege of folding the flag. It brought tears to our eyes.
Between the delightful lodging, care, meals and history - you will never forget your stay with these Dear People and of course, with Saffron, their sweet dog.
Thanks for the memories. Peace.

I booked this as part of a vacation with my dad since it was his first time in Europe. He is a bit of a Wwii history nut and said several times that this was this was the most enjoyable part of the traveling that we did while he was visiting us. Ben is extremely well versed in the events surrounding D-day and though his is the only D-day tour that I have participated in, it seemed to be very unique more factual when compared to the other guides that we ran into. One of the things that I liked the best was how he (Ben) tried to make the tour feel personal. The wall at Lucian's, the German barbed wire at Point du Hoc, and the flag folding at the american Cemetary are just a few of the personal touches. Not to mention the fact that he and his wife graciously invite you into their home and lodge you for the duration of your stay. Jay is a wonderful cook and will do her best to prepare a meal to your tastes. My little girls, 3 and 2, absolutely loved their time there...especially Safron, Ben and Jay's dog. To sum it all up I would say that if you really enjoy Wwii history then this would be money well spent for part of your Europe vacation. Thank you Ben for the information and sharing your wealth of knowledge. Thank you Jay for the hospitality, great food, and raclette cheese...we still haven't used it all. God Bless!

Left on 03/29/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Wow - what a absolutely superb way to spend a few day touring Normandy. For those that do not normally hire guides, Normandy is a must to truly understand the history and Ben is the man to help you feel like you are part of what happened not so long ago. Ben crafted a tour that accommodated our 11 year old WW2 buff and allowed us to see all of the important sites but did not overwhelm us from cramming to much in to short a time. Ben even set up a target for our son to shoot a revolutionary war style black powder gun!
The house was spectacular and was a museum in its self and the meals were great.
I would highly recommend booking Ben and Jaye and hope to see them again some time in the future!
Thanks again Ben/Jaye!!! -

House: Very nice. Ben rebuilt this Manor house with the rock from the ruin. It is very nice and comfortable. The breakfasts and dinners were hearty and delicious but not something to swoon over.
Tour: You could swoon over this!!! Ben lives and breathes D-Day. We were expecting the girls to go with Ben on day 1 only then do some shopping. Ben made it so interesting, that the girls went on the 2nd day also. It was amazing! He basically takes 3 men and follows their fight. You will meet a man who was 10 years old during the attack who built a wall the thank the american paratroopers. Then at the american Cemetery on Omaha Beach, we got to participate in the flag lowering and folding. We were so honored---this might be the highlight of a 2 1/2 week trip trough France.
If you can do This---do it!!!
There is nothing to do around his property, so just be aware that you are isolated, but you are only there to eat and sleep. -

Not to give to much away about this tour because it should be experienced but its the most meritorious tour I've ever been on. Ben and Jaye couldn't do more to make you feel welcome and Ben begins the tour from his own doorstep. The area is steeped in history and you are given a breathtaking our. There is so much to learn just from the topography of the land and the difficulties this presented to the landing forces that you can only really understand the enormous challenge it was as you stand in the footsteps of the brave soldiers who fought in the area. Your days are full of history and your nights can be equally as special with Jaye preparing a note worthy meal for the weary visitors an a welcoming Kir when you come home. I highly recommend this tour.

This is no ordinary tour. Upon my return to the States I have had the chance to discuss our experience with a number of friends who have been to Normandy to see the D-Day Sights. Well, seeing is one thing; experiencing the planning and execution of the events of June 6, 1944 with Ben Trimble is a totally different--it is full immersion into the invasion, the battles, the chaos, the Germans, the airborne (Both Parachute and Glider regiments), Pont du Hoc, Utah and Omaha Beaches. Ben has researched the lives of various servicemen in various units and explains their preparation for battle, their entrance into the invation, their battles and their deaths--with a final tour of the american Cemetary at Collyville de Sur where you stand by their graves. This is on top of a guided personal tour of all the sights. Almost 70 years has passed, with no relative of whom I am aware having participated in these battles, the emotion which fills you as you come to understand the enormity of Operation Overlord and the true heroics of these men and the United States of america is surprising and hard to describe. Safe to say, Ben walks you through these sacred grounds with great historical detail. Don't climb on a tour bus, get Ben to teach you these matters!

We were fortunate to be at le manoir in September when the weather was on the cool side but still pleasant. All of Normandy was still in bloom. Ben and Jaye were gracious hosts, the rooms very comfortable, and the meals excellent. As a result of his in-depth knowledge of the us
D-Day campaign, Ben was able to help us develop new insights about the experiences of two relatives who participated in the landings on Omaha and Utah beaches. The tours gave us the perspectives of the soldiers and the local citizens on the battles in a way that no book could offer. Ben conducted the tours at a pace tailored to our preference (active), but I believe all travelers may expect D Day Tours to accommodate their needs to the extent possible, given the sometimes uneven terrain. -

We simply loved every minute of our stay. Ben & Jaye are outstanding hosts; the food was superb and the manor offers far greater accommodations than anything you will find in a local hotel. And, most importantly, Ben's historical knowledge and passion for the events that occurred on the battlefields and beaches made this trip an unforgettable one. Thank you Ben & Jaye for our stay at your Manor in Picaville--a town destined to earn its first place recognition as the place to stay in Normandy. Our room was spacious and comfortable; dinner was like a family gathering with stories and laughter. What a rare treat! And it was nice to have an egg for breakfast since our French experience was eggless in the morning. We enjoyed the upstairs museum and thanks for indulging us with watching a few chapters of "Band of Brothers" and The Longest Day". Kind of set the mood. Ben, you are a walking, talking encyclopedia (Google for you younger folk) on the events, locations and soldiers of the beaches and D-Day. Yet, you deliver with flare and a sense of real sincerity easy to understand English. I have my bottle of sand on my desk. Thank your for a memorable stay.

This experience far exceeded our wildest expectations. This was not to be a predictable drive around an area with only the brief, occasional stop. From the moment Ben greeted us at the Carentan rail station, we were treated like family who had come to visit. The accommodations, food, and ambiance were terrific. We spent two nights with Ben and Jaye in their beautiful French country manoir and dined at their table. Ben escorted us for two days through the Normandy countryside with many anecdotal commentaries gleaned from his study of history and familarity with local personages. We experienced Utah and Omaha Beaches on the ground and much in between. We were even able to participate in Taps at the american Cemetery. Normandy is an experience every american should have. I can think of no better way to have it than with Ben and Jaye as hosts and Ben as tour guide.

Staying with Ben and Jaye at the Manoir de Founcroup was the highlight of our 3-week European trip. They made us feel at home immediately and the accommodations were comfortable and spacious. The meals were great and Jaye took extra care to make sure my dietary needs were met.
Ben's passion for history and insight into the battle for Normandy was demonstrated over and over as we walked the battlefields and beaches. The two day tour made the battle for Normandy come alive with Ben's ability to tell stories about the experiences of american soldiers and the French people. He shares their stories with a reverence for the lives sacrificed, the courageous acts which changed the course of history, and for the miraculous victory.
We've taken tours in many countries in Europe but have never had anyone make history come alive like Ben. We are looking forward to returning next year with our three sons.

My wife and three grown children visited Normandy in June and had a wonderful stay with Ben and Jaye. From the moment Ben picked us up in Carentan after our train from Paris to our drop off two days later for the return, we had an amazing, event filled and incredibly educational experience. Ben's depth of knowledge about the D Day landings and his unique way of humanizing the events of D Day following the lives of specific paratroopers who perished during that first week made the visit unforgettable. All of us, even my youngest (18 year old daughter),were for 48 hours completely immersed in the D Day experience.
The Manor house was beautiful and far exceeds what the photos on Ben's website show. We stayed in some lovely places during our France and England visit, but the accommodations and setting with Ben and Jaye were my favorite. The rooms were large and very well furnished and the meals Jaye prepared were outstanding and comfortably served around the family table.
Ben and Jaye are delightful, gracious people and superb hosts. I would give Ben, Jaye and D Day Tours my very highest recommendation and hope to return again. Thank you Ben and Jaye (and Saffron) for a wonderful and memorable experience.

Ben's passion is contagious and Jaye's food is delicious. Ben took us to places we would have never seen and directed us away from places that were not worth our while as our time in France was short. He was patient and kind and kept our children interested. He made history come alive for us in a way we had not expected or experienced on a tour before. We highly recommend.

Myself, my husband and 3 grown-up children stayed with Ben & Jaye at Picauville this July. It was the highlight of our holiday. The Manoir was so comfortable and luxurious - loads of interesting things to see around the house and the nicest food we had during a 3 week stay in France! The bedrooms were extremely well equipped, spacious and with lovely bathrooms. Lovely grounds too - it was great to enjoy a glass of wine in the garden when we arrived after a long drive. Our children were worried about staying in someone's home but even they were relaxed and well entertained. The tour, guided by Ben, was fantastic. We got to see so much - most of which we would never have managed on our own, and we felt that we got some true insight into how things really were on D Day. We saw all the well known D Day sites plus loads of extra places that had fascinating, and sometimes very moving, stories. It really brough history to life. I can't recommend this place enough - interesting, extremely comfortable, great food and above all - welcoming.

While we did not arrange a D-Day tour with Ben, we enjoyed the converted barn-- with four bedrooms, huge living room, and the most charming kitchen you've ever seen-- where we had every amenity imaginable. It would be difficult to find a more spacious and comfortable place in Normandy.

My wife and I always believed visiting the Normandy battlefields was a "pilgrimage" that americans should do during their lifetime. Ben and Jaye made this unforgettable experience for us even more special. Ben's passion for and knowledge of the historical events surrounding D-Day was exceptional. We particularly found the details he provided about the personalities (us, German, local French population, even his neighbors) involved in D-Day provided living faces to the events. The tours were fantastic, but also add staying in a manor house that was a part of the D-Day events and you have the best of everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and particularly Jaye's culinary talents. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone considering the Normandy experience to do it with Ben and Jaye.

My wife and I and our adult son just returned from our trip to France. We spent three nights at Ben & Jay's Manoir in Picauville. Ben also hosted our two day tour of the D Day sites in and around Normandy France. Included in our trip - three dinners, three breakfasts, the accommodations in the manoir (huge bedrooms with bathrooms in each) and the two full days of touring including entrance fees to any sites requiring these. We ate with the family and truly enjoyed every meal. Each was special and was designed specifically for our family. The location was central to all of the action during Wwii and includes a crash site for a C-47 where 21 young american's lost their lives. Ben was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the actions in Wwii. He was able to make each site personal and interesting to all of us. If you have a chance to do this vacation, I would highly recommend this one.

Left on 02/05/2012 for a stay in August 2011
My family and I spent two days in august 2011 doing a tour of the Normandy battlefields with Ben and Gerard. Ben's approach to the tour brought a different and more personal aspect to the D Day landings and the Normandy battle. The way that he focused on several individuals who fought and died with the 82nd airborne division together with a chance encounter with a local Frenchman who was a young boy at time of the conflict made us feel that we were personally linked to the events of that day.
Both my sons, now young men of the same age as many of the combatants, were very moved by the tour of the Omaha cemetery. Their realization that many of the dead buried there were the same age, brought home some of the reality of war and the sacrifices that were made. -

My husband and I brought my parents and our children here for a 2-night stay to visit the Dday landing sites in mid October. I was immediately taken by the pictures online of the property and was hoping the reality would live up the pics, which so often it doesn't. In this case, it most certainly did! From the moment we stepped foot at the castle/chateau, I knew we had made the best decision. Ben and Jaye immediately greeted us with the warmth and kindness you'd expect from family or longtime friends, and their genuine, unyielding hospitality continued throughout our stay. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they were to all of us, but they made it incredibly special for my father, who's a war buff. Ben and he talked and talked about all things Wwii (and more!). We sang, and ate and drank, laughed and talked. (You can request dinner -- I wouldn't pass it up if available. Jaye's an incredible cook!) I guess I should also mention that the building and property are absolutely impeccable. Rooms are tastefully decorated. Bathrooms are modern in the utilitarian sense, but have not disturbed the authenticity of the property because of the decor. Two of the three bedrooms are very roomy (the third is not as big, which we used for our children, and I think they charged less for). It's a great place to relax and unwind, or become engaged and learn. Set in the heart of Dday territories, it's a perfect location, in a perfect setting, with perfect hosts. We will stay again, when my in-laws visit, to be sure. Thank you Ben and Jaye!!

Initially, I scoured the internet for a tour of Normandy for our group of five. We are american and also had a lovely German comprised in our group. There was nothing that I found reliable until I found Dday1944tours. After speaking with Ben, I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a great experience. Honestly, this adventure provided by Ben, his assistant Gerard, and lovely wife Jaye, far exceeded all of our expectations and the value was incomparable. The best thing about this was the quality of the tour and the intimacy in which it was conducted. We were never rushed and we were able to thoroughly enjoy Normandy with the respect that should be given to this historic place. The days were long, but at the end of the evening we were always greeted with an amazing evening that Jaye so prodigiously prepared. The setting of the Manor situated right in Normandy, combined with the rich smells of the fire place and food, created an amalgam of pure perfection that still keeps us all in a pensive reverie. Their generosity also included wine and Calvados which made for an amazing recount of the days activities and brought us all closer not just with each other, but the experience itself. Honestly, this is one of the best things I can say I have ever done and I would recommend this to anyone without hesitation. The location was perfect and it also facilitated follow on trips to different French cities after we finished with the tour with Ben and Jaye. This is hands down the best tour you will get and the value is unparalleled. Thank you again Ben and Jaye.

Yes, the Manoir is a great place to experience. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The dinners and breakfasts are fantastic. Ben and Jaye make you feel very welcome. However, what makes this an unique experience is Ben Trumble's D Day tour. Most tourists come to Normandy for a D Day tour. The depth of his knowledge and the passion he has for the history of this historical event makes for a memorable experience. This is essentially a small personal tour. Ben helped us tie all the amazing events and participants together. We were immersed in the events of the invasion during our 2 days. Frankly, we booked Ben's D Day 1994 Tour with no prior recommendations. It turned out to be by far the highlight of our 6 weeks in France and Italy.
