Description from the owner
Castlegate Coach House is a beautiful, grade II listed building, recently restored to provide luxury, self catering accommodation for 4 people. The cottage stands in the grounds of Castlegate House, and both properties are believed to date back to 1845. Located on the peaceful, and picturesque street of Castlegate, it's just a short stroll from Pickering town centre with its variety of excellent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. As the name of the street would suggest, Pickering Castle is close by, as is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
The owners live next door in Castlegate House, and aim to ensure your stay is as comfortable as p...Read more

Left on 04/03/2013 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed here in July 2012 but omitted to do a review after our return from holidays which was very remiss of us!! From the minute you arrive at the Coach House you immediately feel the warmth and comfort of the owners and the building, which has been lovingly restored to very high specs. The cottage is located within easy walking distance to town and local attractions, including the Castle & railway(a trip through the Moors is a must) Everything you could possibly require and more! is contained in the cottage.Coffee, tea and cake awaits your arrival(Thanks to Lucy) Books, games and Dvd's if the weather does not permit going outdoors! The bedrooms and bathroom(with heated towel rail) are spacious with all amenities supplied. Full cooking facilities, also washing and drying machine. The wood burning fire was lovely and cosy. There is also an outdoor courtyard with table and chairs
Everything was spotlessly clean and shining, beds were very comfortable, loved the skylight over the main bed.Plenty of room to move and heaps of storage space all linen supplied and was of superb quality. Off street parking for two cars is a bonus. As we were holidaying from australia we only had a week in Pickering but tried lots of the pubs and restaurants for evening meals. In particular 'The White Swan' is an excellent dining experience but you need to book! Local fish and chips were to die for as were the local yorkshire pasties. All of these are within close proximity of the cottage. We only took the car out to go on some day trips. There is absolutely nothing to want for in the cottage and would very happily have stayed there for longer-can't wait to return! The peace and quiet and the birds make for a very enjoyable stay. There is nothing to fault here at all -

Left on 11/18/2011 for a stay in November 2011
The cottage is beautifully maintained and decorated with a homely feel and all the facilities you would require. The service we received from the owner, Lucy, was excellent - very friendly and helpful to book with and very helpful when we needed to change the dates. A lovely extra touch when we arrived was the lights and radio on and tea and cake set out for us in the kitchen - very much appreciated after a day of driving and when arriving in the dark. The town of Pickering itself is very pretty, with some nice shops, restaurants etc. A great base from which to explore the area - including the moors, Whitby, Scarborough, York etc.

The coachhouse is charming, stylish and welcoming. It was lovely to have the extra touches of toiletries and fresh flowers on arrival. Everything was fresh, clean, comfortable and cosy. Very well equipped kitchen.
It has a lovely little courtyard garden for sitting out in summer, the cottage has a cosy log fire and comfy sofa for the winter. Easy to park, quiet and tranquil location but only 5 minutes walk to either Pickering castle, steam trains or marketplace,
Lucy and Paul have created a very special place where you can really relax and feel welcome. Thank you! -

We stayed for Christmas and were very impressed with The Coach House. The owners were very welcoming and had started the fire ready for our arrival. The accommodation is much more spacious than the photographs suggest and we were pleasantly surprised. The kitchen was well stocked with ample crockery, cutlery, utensils and pans and we were pleased to see that there was even a dishwasher, ideal for Christmas cooking!
The bedrooms were nicely furnished and clean with good quality bedding and towels and the bathroom, although a little dark, was immaculate with plenty of hot water. The living room, although open plan, is very cosy and comfortable with the lovely log burner. It is obvious a great deal of time and effort has gone into furnishing and equipping the cottage. An extra special touch was a real Christmas tree, with no extra cost. We have never gone away for Christmas and were a little nervous that The Coach House would not be as good as we hoped. It surpassed my expectations and I would highly recommend it. -

This house is small but perfectly formed. The kitchen area is fantastic and everything is spotlessly clean and well equipped. The location is ideal - only a few mins walk to the town centre. We really enjoyed it here and are returning in the summer. It is great value for money for the standard you get. Lucy could not be more helpful.

We have stayed at Castlegate Coach House Cottage three times now and hope to return every year! The cottage is beautifully appointed with attention to every detail. Tea and cake greets you arrival and everything is thought of.
The owners are very friendly, though never intrusive. Our son enjoyed playing with their little boy, but if you want peace that's what you'll get.
Pickering is a great centre for a break, only half an hour from the coast and with so much on the doorstep, the moors, the North Yorks railway and more. At the end of the day going back to Castlegate and perhaps a log fire will not be a hardship!
Cannot recommend it more..beautiful! -

This was the third occasion that we have stayed at Castlegate Coach House and it won't be the last. It is ideally located for the North York Moors and Coast. Pickering is a delightful small town. The Coach House is superbly equipped with everything you might need, is extremely comfortable, and just two minutes walk from the town centre or the castle. We tend to mix self catering and eating out on our trips there, and Pickering has several excellent restaurants and pubs to choose from. We cannot recommend the Coach House highly enough
