6 couples recently stayed for a week at Beach Castle. The location of the house and proximity to the beach was perfect.
There were 6 ocean front bedrooms and 2 more rooms at the back of the house. The huge open kitchen and living room were great but very noisy due to lack of rugs to cushion the sound. The Billard room right off the kitchen was perfect.
We felt the kitchen was lacking in pots & pans & dishes, etc. for the capacity of the house.
The ice maker never worked so we had to buy ice daily. It had 3 big refrigerators and lots of storage in the kitchen. The dining table only had 10 chairs( needed) more.
Fall at the beach for us is special. We love couple time and the fishing was superb. We've booked the house for 2014. Now we know to bring extras of kitchen items.
We loved the privacy and beautiful, pristine beach!

If you have a large group that includes young children, this house has the perfect floorplan! The kids' in their bunk room are away from the noise, do not have access to the outside, and are near their parents' bedrooms. The pool and hot tub were clean. Sauna worked great! The furnishings and linens nice. The house shows signs of hard use, but I don't know how that could be avoided, especially since we were there at the end of the summer. Overall, we were comfortable. The pots, pans, kitchen knives, measuring cups, etc. left something to be desired. They need a whole house water filtration system because the dishwashers are cruddy from the water and the glasses and silverware stay filmy. The water does not taste too good, so bring/buy bottled water. We had to run white vinegar thru the coffee pots to get them to work properly. The ice machine was broken and could not be fixed while we were there. There is plenty of refrigerator and freezer space.
The outdoor grills were a disgusting mess! It took a lot of work for us to get them clean enough for us to use. All the outdoor garbage cans and reycling bins were overflowing when we arrived...not a pretty sight and stinky too...and the trash and recycling did not get picked up until late in the week. We didn't have a place to put our trash and recycling! Since most of the vacation houses rent from Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun, Emerald Isle should figure out a way to get that stuff picked up before people arrive on the weekends. Driving up to overflowing garbage is not a pleasant way to start the vacation. I wish the windows had been clean...the glass was cloudy, spotted and all the window frames are black with mold. The insides of the beautiful front loading washers are moldy too, which I found heartbreaking! There is mold starting to form around the edges of some of the aC vents. They need more and nicer pool furniture. We still did like the place though and would rent it again if we had the chance. Loved the privacy!!!

The basic space is very nice, especially the large, open 2nd-floor ding-kitchen-living area. However, the cook-ware and food-preparation ware was woefully lacking. We had 15-16 people staying for the week (2 per bedroom)and cooked every night but with great difficulty because of the shortage of basic items like broiler pans, frying pans (there was one only)mixing bowls, serving utensils, cookware, serving platters and so on. One of the two dishwashers did not clean dishes well (even though we rinsed them off before racking them)so it was difficult to keep enough plates in service.
Overall, the place does not seem particularly well-furnished for the "class" of the structure. Several bedrooms had no chairs and the 2nd floor master had no carpeting (nor chair), which led to a week of gritty passage underfoot. There were a couple of pieces of very ragged carpet remnant in front of the common room's outside door. The common room and pool-table room was short of seating, as well. Bathrooms lack adequate racks for towels for more than one occupant. The front-loading washing machines smelled heavily of mold/mildew.
Overall, the house seemed under-resourced and not terribly well maintained, judging by the pronounced grey-black staining in several places on the bare-wood floors. It is a potentially terrific place but the interior and furnishings need to be brought up to the high standard implied in the online descriptions.

The Service was excellent from the first phone call to find a house, through the time getting prepared for our vacation, to move-in and move-out. The repair of the dishwasher that needed to be done was addressed promptly.
The Home is spacious and ideal for a family gathering!!!
It is 1/2 mile from Pine Knoll Shores aquarium which is ideal for young children.
My favorite things were the view from the kitchen window- I could see the pool and the ocean, and the easy access to both the beach and the pool and of course the very comfortable beds.
Could be a really nice house if it's taken care of.

Disappointed in the cleanliness of the home or lack there of. The steepness of the driveway should be included in the house description. Lack of seating furniture inside and out for the number of people that can stay at the house. We've been going to the beach for 15 years and this came in towards the bottom of the list. Read more
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear of your disappointment and have passed your comments on to the owner of Beach Castle. This home will sleep 16 and you should certainly find seating for that number of people. We will surely work on this. Thank you again for your feedback.
