Description from the owner
Sitting in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest and surrounded by a scenic wonderland, our Log Cabin is conveniently located at the entrance to the Red River Gorge and Rock Bridge, a natural sandstone arch that extends across Swift Creek. The Log Cabin is a real, hand-hewn log cabin with hardwood floors throughout and a real wood-burning fireplace. Our Log Cabin at the Red River Gorge is in very close proximity to all the sites and trails of the Red River Gorge including the Sky Bridge arch and Chimney Top overlook. As a bonus, it is only ten minutes away from Natural Bridge State Resort Park.

Oxford, OhioDon't go in winter
Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in March 2011
The cabin is nice, the owner was super friendly (and brought us strawberries from his store!), the area is quiet and near trails and woods. But it is a log cabin with virtually zero insulation. The heating system is outside the window to the bedroom area and it goes off every 20 minutes (because all the heat escapes through the cracks in the walls). We went in March and it was cold, so we needed the heating, but the noise was so bad we could hardly sleep. Our son had a hard time falling asleep with all the roaring of the heating. I am sure it is a perfect cabin for the summer, but avoid going in the cold months unless you have really good earplugs.

Columbus, OhioTelstar cabin - cozy and convenient to park highlights
Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The pictured cabin is the Log Cabin. We stayed in the smaller and less expensive Telstar. It is rustic and cozy. May still be "in progress" but the air conditioner and fan worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was well appointed for the price. Unlike many rentals in the area, Sam accepts one-night rentals and also allows pets. The cabin was clean and we did not detect any evidence of previous pets. This cabin and others nearby are very close to the Rock Bridge and other park highlights are also convenient to get to. The highway is just close enough if you need basic supplies from the convenience store.

Grand Rapids, MICozy Telstar cabin: great value, great memories!
Left on 04/19/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Because the log cabin wasn't available and the kids didn't want the larger Cottage Cabin, we chose the cozy one-bedroom Telstar and had the kids sleep on a mattress we brought along. The cabin fed into my fantasy of living in a tiny house. It's clean and new--so new it's not quite finished yet at the ceiling level (you can see the insulation), but that didn't bother us, especially since I loved the pinewood walls. The kitchen worked wonderfully well so we didn't have to drive to restaurants. Be sure to stock up on food in Stanton, as that's the last major shopping area nearby (and that's a good 20-25 minutes away). Sam came by and replaced a lightbulb and gave hiking recommendations. We loved the gorgeous Rock Bridge trail--had it to ourselves singing Easter songs all the way down! Wish we could have stayed longer and hope to go back and get the log cabin next time.
One major difficulty was that our cell phone didn't work out here (the boonies!), but we found a nice neighbor who called Sam for us so we could get into the property. Next time I would arrange to know where the key is before we get there. Thankfully that wonderful Kentucky hospitality made what could have been an irritation into a pleasant experience (thanks, John, and good luck on your outfitting business!)
The cabin is in a great location for hiking the Red River Gorge trails and is only a ten-minute drive from the Natural Bridge trails. It's a mile from the parkway so fairly easy to find. The 3 cabins are in sight of each other but not so close that you feel you are intruding on each other (about a stone's throw away from each other). Couch was a little old and sunken in, and bed was only okay, but everything was clean--including the dishes! Thanks, Sam, for helping our family make wonderful memories! -

ColumbiaThis is in the perfect location for sightseeing the area.

Sam the owner came by to check on us and we had a nice visit with him. This year is our 25th wedding anniversary and we have been going on several small getaways to celebrate. This cabin was a very romantic little getaway joining the park at the entrance. It's in a country setting so make sure you take what you need with you (food, drinks, etc.) No shopping centers nearby. Just what we were looking for, privacy, along with beautiful sightseeing.

Pickerington, OhioBeautiful little Cabin
Left on 11/15/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My wife and I absolutely enjoyed our stay. Sam was extremely helpful in setting me up with a local florist to have flowers at the cabin when we arrived, we were celebrating her birthday at the cabin. Who wouldn't love "Stuby". Take some groceries with you, not much close. We will go back, beautiful area

Lancaster PAPerfect location for enjoying the red river gorge
Left on 11/11/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My daughter and I spent one night in the log cabin at the red river gorge en route from Pa to Mo. We wanted to do some hiking and see Natural bridge state park as a break from the driving.
Sam was very helpful when I spoke with him on the phone and was available when I needed directions too! I even had a special request which he graciously accommodated. When my daughter and I pulled up and called him to let him know we had arrived, he told us how to get in but urged us to catch the sunset from the lookout at chimney top. We did and were so glad- what an amazing view!
We returned to the cabin and started a little fire in the stone fireplace with the wood provided (bring your own matches as we couldn't find them and don't forget to open the damper). There was a tv just for dvd's and we had brought one to watch but ended up just pulling our chairs up to the fire and chatting while roasting a couple marshmallows.
The upstairs loft was cute and cozy and although the bed was on the smaller side and not new, the shower was wonderful, good and hot and everything was clean. The next morning we met with Sam who was very obliging and sweet, he gave us a map of the area and we were off to explore! The cabin is right on rock bridge road so don't miss that hike, and we also loved angel windows and the scenic drive to nada tunnel. We had heard Gray's arch was not to be missed, but ran out of time as we wanted to see Natural Bridge State park as well (very cool place). A great stay at a charming authentic log cabin, highly recommend.
