We had a wonderful week here enjoying Mara's cooking on several evenings and lovely fruit and vegetables from the farm which would appear in bags tied to our door or in a bowl on our terrace table. The apartment was very well fitted out with everything we needed. The location is wonderful - in the midst of tranquil countryside but an easy drive to San Gimignano, Volterra (both not to be missed) and a little further to Siena and Lucca, the latter a personal favourite and where we saw Tosca in Teatro Giglio which is a gorgeous building inside. Even though we were unlucky with the weather, we were very happy with our stay in every way.

We realy enjoyed our stay in morrona. It ist situated in the heart of tuscany. Half an hour to pisa. one hour to firence.
our kids liked the swimming pool very much and we could relaxe there.
The appartments was clean with full stuff, except dish washer.
You also can use a wash maschine.
But the best are Mara and Franco, the owner of the house. They were very friendly, Mara cooked an well tasting diner and wonderful apple pie. They only speak italian but we understood each other by hand, feet photos and so on. It was a very nice stay, we absolutly recommend to you.

We have have had a wonderful holiday, made all the better by the wonderful hosts. Mara's cooking is second to none and after a tiring day sightseeing it was so good to have arranged with Mara a meal and a bottle of Franco's red wine, all for 13 euros. Only 30 minutes by car from Pisa and so handy for visiting Lucca, Seinna, San Gimignano (my favourite). We will be back and hope it wont be too long. I would recommend this to anyone.

Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We've just come back from a wonderful 2 week stay here with our 2 year old and I cannot fault it! The scenery is stunning, the food yummy, the wine amazing and reasonably priced, the pool well looked after and our hosts Mara and Franco so friendly and welcoming. There is such a great variety of things to do but you do need a car. From the small hill top villages to the hubs of Florence and Sienna you'll probably feel like we did and want to move there! Lucca is well worth a visit with city walls you can walk or cycle round, Volterra and San Gimignano are about an hour away and beautifully unspoilt by tourists, Florence is stunning but best to go by train, Sienna was possibly our favourite - plenty to see and ice-cream to eat! We even made it to the beach although that was a bit of a trek as we got a bit lost.
Some tips to make your stay perfect - Bring plenty of mosquito repellent, in the evening the little blighters can get to you. Make sure you have good maps of the area or get a sat nav (we got lost a number of times although that might just be my rubbish sense of direction!) It's good to get more detailed maps of the bigger places with the car parks on if you can as there are often free ones if you know where to look. Do a supermarket stop at Pontederra before you arrive as you'll need the key bits like water, milk, bread etc. Restaurants tend to open for dinner around 7/7.30 so plenty of snacks needed for little ones to help them last.
Thank you to all - we'll be back!

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Farmhouse Podere Costantino é a wonderful place for spending time with a partner, kids, family, friends or just by yourself. You can also make new friends there, because the property gives you at the same time privacy and common areas, like the beautiful pool. We stayed for 9 days at aurora apartment. It is a very big and comfortable apartment for a couple. It is very quite for sleeping and the breeze in the summer makes all the apartment very fresh. The aurora apartment has everything you need for a short stay. It is 10 minutes from the city by car (where you can find small shops, bank, small restaurants). It will be 15 minutes buy car for bigger supermarkets, gas station and restaurants. The view is beautiful. The property is around one hour distance from the main medieval Tuscany cities. The roads are sooo beautiful and part of the plans every day!! So, you must rent a car and a GPS (very important!!). The owners (Franco and Mara) are great and lovely people, despite they don't speak English. Their son and daughters are always around and can help, because they do speak English very well. We were luck to enjoy two Tuscany dinners that the owners prepared for the guests. Hummm...misss it a lot!! The internet access is not so easy, but who needs internet in a holiday!??? In sum, we love Podere Constantino and we recommend it for everyone. We miss Mara and Franco e wish to go back with our family one day!

Farmhouse Podere Costantino is perfectly placed on a Tuscan hillside with amazing views and walks. Its well placed to visit the many hillside towns as well as Pisa, Lucca and Florence.
You will be well looked after during your stay, if you don't want to go out to eat then you will be well fed if you take up the offer of food at the farmhouse.

LondonWonderful relaxing stay, highly recommended
Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We (couple in 30s) stayed here for 1 week early July 2012 and had a fantastic time. Despite arriving late at night, Franco and Mara were still up to greet us and happy to leave the admin stuff until the morning so we could get to bed. They had provided a welcome basket with breakfast essentials which was really helpful.
The one bedroom Tramonto apartment was very spacious, we were really surprised at how big it was with a lovely private terrace with table and benches that we used every day to eat at, watched by a very friendly cat and kitten.
The pool and sunbed area is beautiful, really nicely maintained and peaceful with lovely views. On many days we were the only people at the pool but even when busy there are probably only 10 people in total.
Mara cooked a lovely meal for all of the guests one evening which was a great opportunity to sample some wonderful cooking but also meet other guests. Franco also gave us a tip about a local wine festival which was great. We were kindly left apricots and peaches on a couple of occasions too.
On a practical note, you need a car to get here, and we did get a bit lost driving here at night but it is a good location. We drove to Florence (just over 1 hour), Lucca (an hour) Pisa and San Gimignano from here without problems. There is a Conad supermarket about 8 minutes drive away for you to stock up. You will need things like washing up sponges, toilet roll and soap plus cooking essentials but washing up liquid and tea towels were provided in a well equipped kitchen. The wifi didn't always work so don't rely on it but it was very handy when accessible. There's no bath in this apartment but the shower is excellent in a nice big bathroom. On the hotter nights, you might wish you had a fan in the bedroom but the shutters do help to keep the place as cool as possible.
I would go back here tomorrow if I could and we hope to return soon as it was really the most relaxing holiday I have had in years!

We stayed at the Podere in mid June and had a fantastic week, The house is is situated in the lovely Tuscan countryside surrounded by vineyards. We stayed in the Tramonto apartment which was large and adequately equipped with a nice outdoor terrace. The pool was a lovely temperature and was a lovely spot to relax on the loungers and read before jumping in to cool off.
We managed trips to Sienna, San Gimignano, Florence, Volterra and Pisa and loved them all. I would recommend having a car if you stay here as it is fairly remote and it would be hard to make the most of the area without one, Franco and Mara were excellent and very helpful but not intrusive. Would recommend a bottle or two of Franco's wine!! -

I am giving it a definite 5 out of 5.
The setting was incredible.
The people went out of their way to make our stay a wonderful one.
The apartment was clean and with all the needed amenities and supplies.
It has Wi-Fi which I am sorry to say is not as common in Italy as in the us.
Close to all the main tourist attractions, but you can come home to an idyllic setting.
We are definitely going back.

What a great place to stay, after days out it was great to come back to the quiet countryside and relax with a dip in the pool. Franco and Mara are there if you need them but let you get on with your holiday. They provide lovely home cooked food if you require it or you can cook your own. Franco left fresh fruit on our doorstep most days. We highly recommend this Farmhouse and hopefully will be back. You will need a car. Ideally placed to vist Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca and all the Italian villages.

Franco and Mara are the most wonderful hosts! The fact that we spoke no Italian did not affect how gracious they were towards us during our brief visit. Upon arrival (which was slightly later than we anticipated), they received us and provided a meal! This place is away from the "hustle-bustle",very calm with beautiful scenery and easy free parking!!! It is in the country so good transportation is a must! Gps helps too! The apartment was perfect for the 3 of us, private, spacious, clean, and safe. We spent the day in Rome the second day of our visit and left all of our belongings with no problems. This is was so much nicer that staying in a hotel. The drive to see the leaning tower of Pisa and a quick visit to shop in Florence was easy. The train station was about a 30 minute drive; we were able to take a one day excursion to Rome without a problem. We plan to return to stay longer next time

Just arrived back from a week at Podere Costantino. The owners, Franco and Mara were very welcoming. We stayed at the Merrigio apartment. The rooms and bathroom were very big and the accommodation had everything you needed (You may want to bring a DVD player with you if you have kids. Mine were quite happy with Italian Cartoonito, even though they cannot understand Italian). The fresh fruits were delicious and the home-made wine was yummy. The pool is great, the kids loved it. It is on the cold side (unheated) but with 30C degrees outside, you warm up very quickly. The negative is that although the first floor apartments have a balcony it is very narrow and has no outdoor dining area (attached to the apartment).
The farmhouse is very child-friendly. The Farmhouse is very well located. About an hour from Florence, 45 mins from Pisa and just over an hour from the sea. All in all a great choice for a holiday.Response from Mara Turini - 06/17/2012

Thank you very much for your review and for the appreciation. The apartment Meriggio has a small outside eating area at the terrace level with table and chairs and you can eat outdoor. Yes, the terrace is not so wide, that's why it costs -100 euros/week than the equivalent apartment Alba on the ground floor with a a large space outside. Moreover we accepted a further price reduction to agree your requests. In any case we enjoyed your presence here and we hope to see you again next time. Best wishes to you.

Very hospitable hosts Mara & Franco will make you feel welcome and looked after. They can provide excellent home cooked meals for a reasonable cost and the accomodation is clean and spacious, We stayed in the aurora apartment and used the pool and loungers most days. Volterra and Pisa are only a short drive away, closer by there is Cascina Therme which is a nice small town with some restaurants and shops (10 minute drive). The village of Morona is a 5 minute walk and has a local bar and small grocery store - supermarkets are within a 20 minute drive. We would definately return if we holiday in the region. Some other guests had small childern/ babies and seemed to manage fine so is a good consideration in this instance as well. The owners speak little English but enough to get by, so worth learning a few please and thank yous. Susanna (their daughter) who does the bookings speaks very good English and can advise on anything you may need.

We were overwhelmed by the wonderful reception we received on our arrival and throughout our stay. Thanks to Mara and all the family for the wonderful meal and the tomatoes to die for and the homemade Pesto.
Tramonto had everything we needed although we spent most of our time outside eating on the covered terrace and enjoying the warm, balmy climate.
The location was perfect and we managed to visit many of the hilltop villages before burning ourselves out - we shall have to come back to see Florence and Sienna.
It's difficult to choose one particular thing as our favourite like as everything suited us just fine.

We had a wonderful stay with Mara and Franco in their very rustic and charming accomodation which was clean and spacious and airy with all the mod cons you would need for self catering with a family. The beauty of this type of holiday is that you have your own space yet you know that at any moment you may be greeted with fresh fruit, a bottle of locally produced wine or a cake freshly baked by Mara! The owners live next door but are very discreet. The location is quiet, set amongst olive groves and vineyards, yet you are very close to all that Tuscany has to offer. That is if you can be tempted away from the delightful swimming pool and the peace and quiet. I would thouroughly recommend to all who wish to take a holiday with a difference, especially those who want to escape the rat race and the daily grind of busy jobs like we did.

I am loathe to say too many nice things about this haven in Tuscany, nestled in the Chianti Hills above Pisa in case I cannot get booked the next time! Having said that, the first thing I did when I got home last week - even before i opened the mail or unpacked - was to book again for next year but for twice as long. I have stayed in many places all over Europe but never have we had such a wonderful holiday. Mara & Franco are the most superb hosts and we were made to feel so welcome. Baskets of freshly picked figs and sun ripened melons & tomatoes were found on the doorstep and on one occasion a Torte della Nonna was slipped onto the kitchen table fresh from the oven.
I urge you to go at your earliest opportunity but please don't go when I want it!!

Believe the rest of the reviews, they are true. This place was a joy to stay in. The hospitality from Franco and Mara was 1st class, the evening Tuscan meals were an added delight. The accommodation was superb and clean. The surprise meal on arrival was also a bonus as was the myriad of fruit and vegetables France left every now and again for us. Location and accommodation exactly as described, husband and wife hosts very generous and nothing too much trouble for them, only downside was that no restaurant or bars are within walking distance so necessary to drive if you wish to dine out of an evening.
Local rail station with reasonably priced parking convenient for a trip into Florence but you can drive and park in Pisa, Lucca and Sienna with no issues. Did a trip to the beach but would not recommend as although distance was not that far journey seemed to take forever on Italian roads. Local villages still retain real charm although do not expect them to speak English as we do in most of Europe ,actually it was quite refreshing that we had to try to learn some local vocabulary for a change.

Franco and Mara ensured we had everything we needed during our stay (highchair, cot, baby bath, microwave) as well as delivering fresh tomatoes, nectarines, melons, wine and olive oil, all of which made our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The meal they prepared for us on the second evening was lovely, and despite the language barrier and unexpected downpour we had a great evening!
Podere costantino doesn't offer flat screen tv's, air conditioning or have an infinity pool - but it's all the better for it. As a base to explore Tuscany, it's a perfect, traditional and welcoming place that offers great value for money...we will be back!

Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We stayed in the aurora apartment in Podere Costantino for 9 days as a fairly last minute arrangement (booked only 2 weeks before). On arrival on a Sunday we were greeted with a wonderful communal meal and all through the stay there was fresh fruit and vegetables left for us (and even a bottle of their own wine!)
The apartment was one of the best equipped that we have ever stayed in and very spacious for 1 bedroom. The views from the bedroom were wonderful especially sunset.
The pool was lovely and clean and we had it to ourselves most early mornings.
We used the apartment as a base for sightseeing and it was fairly conveniently placed for driving to all the main Tuscan attractions.
There were a few slight niggles we had with the place..
- The weather was unseasonably hot so a/C would have been useful
- The veranda for the apartment was rather narrow and was also the access to the next apartment
- the hot water wasn't always hot (not cold but sometimes just tepid)
- The WiFi was weak and actually broke down for a few days
These did not unduly spoil our holiday which we'll remember as a Wonderful stay in the Tuscan CountrysideResponse from Mara Turini - 07/31/2011

Many thanks for your review, we appreciated your company and we are glad to met you. Thank you very much also for your suggestions. To avoid hot temperature in the apartment, we built a wonderfull cabana in wood and textile. We hope to enjoy it if you will come back.

We had 2 fab weeks in this property with wonderfully hospitable hosts, Franco & Mara. The apartment Tramonto was very spacious on the ground floor with wonderful view of the sunset each evening. The pool was great and quiet with only 4 apartments. We had a typical Tuscan meal on arrival and another the following week. The family are very generous providing maps, bikes, and abundance of fresh fruit & veg. Lucca, Florence, Volterra and the coast all within easy reach. Just lovely.

Mara and Franco run this farm. They are wonderful people. When we arrived they prepared a typical tuscan meal for us together with the other guests. We received olive oil and fresh fruits from the farm almost daily. The farmhouse was comfortable and the pool lovely and clean. It was also an ideal base to explore Tuscany. Highly recommended.

Although we knew little Italian and Mara and Franko knew some English, our entire 7 night stay at the Farmhouse was fabulous. We had bowls of apricos, peaches, and cherries in our large double bedroom apartment each day. The grounds had fruit and olive trees, and a wonderful swimming pool. Franko gave suggestions on places to see that are better than those in travel books. We all hope to return somr day. Great location to see Tuscany.

The setting is beautiful and the room (Meriggio) was clean and roomy. We didn't need air conditioning as the weather was mild but the bedroom could get quite stuffy. It was a shame that the facilities weren't quite as described. There was a shared washing machine for which you had to pay to use and there was no kettle or toaster in the kitchen. We did receive some lovely fresh apricots which were very juicy and the meal prepared for us was superb. Despite the language barrier the hospitality was very welcoming. A mid week sheet change would have been nice and it's a shame the balcony was so small and narrow. The location was just a little too remote for us and we had to drive everywhere to get to a shop or a restaurant. It was a great base to explore from but would definitely recommend car hire. Tuscany is beautiful and we'll definitely be returning at some point to explore more but would like to stay somewhere a little less remote.

My wife and I stayed with Franco and Maria for 4 nights during May this year. Our stay was fantastic from start to finish. Geographically, it is well located for exploring the gorgeous Tuscan countryside as well as visiting the key towns of Pisa, Florence and Siena.
We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome, and our stay also included a communal meal prepared by Maria in which we got to experience traditional Tuscan cuisine and Chianti.
The accommodation was amply sized and very well appointed, with a view form the bedroom windiw that will stay with us forever.
We highly recommend this venue to holidaymakers, and will certianly be looking to visit again in the future. -

We stayed at Podere Costantino for 4 nights in early May, and had a lovely time. The house is located just outside Morrona, a picturesque and quiet village, and is easy driving distance to Siena, Lucca, Volterra and other beautiful Tuscan towns.
In early May it was still a little bit too chilly to sit outside at night or lie by the pool during the day (we managed one 'fresh' swim, but the pool will be beautiful in summer). If you're visiting outside the hot months, make sure you bring a good book for the evenings, as there isn't much to do!
Of course, this isolation is part of the house's charm, and its gardens and the surrounding countryside are beautiful. It is also about a 20 minute walk into Terriciola, where we discovered a great restaurant (on the right hand side as you enter the town from Morrona).
A lovely base for exploring Tuscany. -

Mara and Franco was a lovely couple and the place was amazing. The farmhouse is located in a quaint village in Morona and has great views of the Tuscan hills and landscapes. Their hospitality and graciousness was beyond measure from the bottle of homemade wine to the wonderful meal Mara prepared especially for us. Although, their English is not very well, we were able to effectively communicate. Communicating and reserving the farmhouse was extremely easy and without complication. I hope to return one day to beautiful agriturismo Podere Costantino, we had a blast. Thanks once again!

Franco and Mara truly are lovely people! They welcomed us into their home with a basket of fresh fruit and a bottle of wine made by Franco's sister! They are very concerned about your vacation and try to help you any way they can! They make you feel warm and welcome and never like you are just a paying guest!
Add to this the idyllic scenery! Day and night you can see neighbouring towns on top of nearby hills! Our son loved the farm and the pool! The apartment was clean and spacious. Perfect for cooking a quick breakfast before sightseeing! And each night we would make our way back for a light supper and a glass of wine!
While there, we were able to visit Pisa, Lucca, Florence and Sienna on day trips. The Podere is located about 30 minutes southeast of the Pisa airport. But our first time there we did get lost and it took longer (partially because the GPS took us a down a dead end road)...
Overall, what we liked most would be a toss up between the scenery and the hospitality! Unfortunately, the only (and I stress only) detraction was the heating. Being their late in the season meant that there was little hot water (heated by solar panels and we had several cloudy days). And I am not sure, if the heat was heated the same way but in the brisk October - it was a bit cool in the apartment! We would love to go back for September or august though!
This was definitely one of the nicest places we stayed during our travels!

The farmhouse is in a peaceful rural location with great views. We were happy just to spend a day or two by the pool relaxing. We spent other days visiting Siena, Volterra and San Gimigiano. We visited Pisa and Florence previously. I recommend taking the train to Florence and Siena for a more relaxing journey and travelling by car to other towns/villages.
The owners Mara and Franco (& children) are great hosts - very welcoming and availble if you need them but also unobtrosive. They gave us a meal one evening during our stay - not to be missed as Mara is a great cook. They also gave us fresh homegrown fruit (figs and grapes).
We have stayed at Podere Constantio twice now and plan to visit this little Tuscan gem again in the future. -

Left on 09/24/2010 for a stay in September 2010
We have been dreaming of a week in a Tuscan villa for years, and we were truly thrilled with our adventure. We stumbled across the property after googling for the best reviewed Tuscan villa and we weren't disappointed. We drove in with our 5 and 3 yr old kids and fell in love with the place immediately. We had many of our meals 'Al Fresco' sampling the local delights, enjoyed watching the sunsets from our outdoor dining area and the kids loved swimming daily in the pool.
The location is perfect for sightseeing, we did day trips to San Gimignano, Cinque Terra (amazing!), Volatarre, Pisa and saw some beautiful scenery and towns not on the tourist maps. The guestbook was full of ideas of places to visit, where to eat and where to shop, we recommend reading it as soon as you get there.
The icing on the cake of the lovely and roomy apartment with beautiful location was how welcome the family made us feel. We joined them for a dinner with their friends sampling some of their home grown delicacies. Though there was a little language divide, we managed very well. Our two kids loved following Franco around the garden as they all chatted away, neither my kids or Franco understanding each other at all, but it didn't stop them talking!

We stayed the last week in august, (part of a driving tour thru France to Italy). We allowed 3 days to get to the apartment from SE England, stopped in Dijon & Toulon & got to the farm 1800 on the Saturday. Mara & Franco were great hosts, very welcoming, and left us tomatoes and figs from the farm. You do need a car in this area. The pool is absolutely fantastic and its great to be in the pool and just stare at the Tuscan countryside. One word of warning:mosquitos. They were present especially around the pool in the early evening time. Not much you can do about it really except stay in the pool for as long as possible ! We found antihistamine cream and syrup really affective once the inevitable had happened!
Mara cooked a great meal for us all on the Tuesday and Franco provided his home-made wine which was a really nice evening and we got to talk more with our fellow guests.
We visited Pisa (worth a trip but not a full day by any means), San Gimignano (really nice place to spend a few hours), Florence (an hour by Train from Pontederra), and Volterra. Other days we relaxed by the pool. Had great pasta and ice cream everywhere, but pretty much came back to the apartment and pool by mid afternoon to relax. Local wine tastes great and is a bargain in the local supermarket.
Couldn't really ask for much more - our hosts were fantastic, the apartment had all we needed, the pool is simply amazing. We also had some really great fellow guests during our stay.
Really nothing was missing for us. We'd been looking forward to our trip for many months and we weren't disappointed in anyway. When we return to Tuscany in the future we will almost certainly stay here again ! Thank you so much Mara, Franco and Susanna (whose email correspondance was excellent who we finally got to meet towards the end of our stay !) -

Farmhouse in good location, within easy reach of Pisa and many interesting towns and villages e.g. San Gimignano and Volterra, further afield you could travel to Florence, Lucca, Sienna etc. by car or train. Peaceful, tranquil setting on a hill with views of countryside. Accommodation fairly basic but comfortable and had everything needed for a pleasant stay, pool and gardens were a delight. Owners couldn't be more helpful and friendly, providing a welcome meal for all the guests and gifts of fruit and vegetables throughout the week. We will definitely think of returning here when we next come to Italy.

We had a fantastic family holiday at Podere Costantino. We were made to feel very welcome here by Mara and her family. The location is fabulous. We ate our evening meals on the tables overlooking the Tuscan hills! This was delightful. The family laid on a delicious Tuscan meal for all guests on one evening in the week - as we stayed for two weeks we enjoyed this twice!
Regular bowls of fresh fruit were left for all guests. The swimming pool was wonderful and never too busy.
We would definitely recommend this to family & friends and we would be tempted to return. -

Because we were the second Dutch couple ever since who visited this wonderful place, I will write my review in Dutch.

We had fantastic time staying in Podere Costantino, the location is absolutely beautiful (tip: watching the sunset with a glass of wine is a must). The apartment itself is clean and spacious. My only suggestion is to have ceiling fans if not air-conditioning installed, it was quite hot during the night even with the windows opened.
The hosts (Franco and Mara) are very very helpful and friendly; they go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The farmhouse is quite close to Pisa airport, but yet in a relatively off beaten tourist track location.
I would absolutely recommend this place to families with kids (4-10 perhaps will enjoy it most). Children can play outside all day, the pool alone will provide hours of fun. There is also a table tennis and lots of space to play hide and seek and explore. My 7 years old son loved it! -

Left on 07/28/2010 for a stay in June 2010
My wife and I stayed at the "Farmhouse Podere Costantino" for about a week this past June. We were fortunate that the weather was beautiful the entire time and even more fortunate that Maria and her family were so gracious and welcoming. They made us a home-cooked meal with their own brand of wine our first night there and, because it was the middle of the strawberry festival, they even brought us fresh strawberries from the farm. The apartment was spacious and quiet and a short walk revealed beautiful views, a well-kempt swimming pool and lovely natural grounds with wild roses. The farm is nicely located within 45 minutes driving to Volterra, about an hour +/- to Florence and only 2.5 hours +/- to Cinque Terra. We even discovered a variety of incredible wineries just up the road. Our only regret was that we were unable to bring more of the Podere Costantino wine and olive oil home with us!
Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and accommodating for two wide-eyed americans who didn't speak much Italian... thank you!

Our week at Podere Costantino was everything we had hoped for and more! Our hosts, Mara and Franco, are such lovely friendly people, and their hospitality extended to inviting all the guests to dinner on our first night. This made such a difference to the week long stay as we felt as though we were amongst friends all week. The location is rural without being isolated and was wonderfully relaxing. Longer trips by train were also possible with a mainline station a short drive away. It was our first visit to Italy and we were blown away! We long to return, It was very hot during our stay and some ceiling fans would have been welcome, especially at night. The mozzies are ferocious! All in all, a wonderful time was had by all of us. Left on 06/27/2010 for a stay in June 2010
My wife, four-year-old daughter and I have just returned from a glorious week at Podere Costantino.
Mara, Franco and family gave us a wonderfully warm welcome and where extremely helpful throughout, including a traditional Tuscan meal on arrival and - throughout the week - an endless supply of the most gorgeous peaches, apricots and tomatoes we have ever taste, all grown on the estate.
The apartment was - I imagine - typically Tuscan. Very, very clean, cool and practical. The terrace was nice and shady which we were very thankful for given the heat.
The location, on a quiet road away from any traffic noise or bustle, is even more spectacular than it appears in the photos. It's surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, and is set quite high with beautiful views across to distant villages. There's wildlife aplenty - the morning chorus from all the wildlife is incredible!
We were worried about taking our daughter somewhere so seemingly remote, as she's used to play parks on-tap, but we needn't have. The grounds of the property and the walks around it were more than enough to keep her occupied... and then there's the pool!
We didn't spend a lot of time in the pool - just a couple of afternoons as there's just too much to see - but I can see how some people would be happy just to lie there all day, every day!
The surrounding villages are a treasure-trove. So much so that we abandoned our plans to make trips to Florence, Sienna and San Gimignano this time round, and settled for the short 30-minute trip to Volterra (incredibly beautiful) and a trip over the mountains to the coast. The rest of the time we just explored the nearby villages instead (and they all had play parks, so our daughter was happy!).
Then there's the restaurants, the wine... but everyone knows this about Tuscany.
Thank you, Mara and Franco - we'll never forget it! -

The home itself was what would be expected of a holiday appt. The location is a little isolated therefore you must have transport to visit the small walled towns/cities which are must to see.
