NottinghamA unique rural retreat
Left on 06/09/2013 for a stay in May 2013
Casa Colomba is a great base for a tour around tuscany. Marie and Lorenzo have made it a wonderful romantic retreat, and have thought of everything. There is quite a few steps to climb up to the door, but the view of the rooftops and the countryside are amazing. We visited Lucca, Buti, Florence, Pisa and the beach, all of which are within easy reach. We caught the train from Pontedera to Pisa and Florence, really easy to use. Everyone is very friendly, and the local village has everything you need, with bigger supermarkets near by. The only downside is there are no restaurants right in the village to walk to for an evening meal if you want a drink, that was the only thing for us, however it didn't spoil a lovely week in Tuscany.

First we must thank you for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba and for describing the apartment as a “unique rural retreat”.
It is nice to hear that you managed to visit so many places such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca and coast with such ease from the apartment.
You mentioned in your review that there are no restaurants in the village that are within walking distance, I’m so sorry to hear that you may have missed the Osteria at the edge of the village which is about a 7 – 10 minute walk away, and although not strictly a restaurant the Enotecca wine bar in the village does serve simple rustic food.
The most important thing is that you said this didn’t ruin your holiday and we are happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us here at Casa Colomba and the village of Vicopisano and we really hope to welcome you back one day in the future.
Warm regards

Flagstaff, ArizonaGreat time in a small place in Italy
Left on 06/04/2013 for a stay in May 2013
We were very pleased with the apartment. It is well equipped for meals in, lots of room, a great bed. Plenty of touring information available and the owner Marie was very friendly and helpful with ideas for restaurants and places to see. We roamed the area and went on a tour of the main fortress, the Rocca, which gave us fascinating insights to the last 1,000 years of the political contest of Pisa vs. Florence. We visited Pisa, Lucca and Volterra easily. We are very glad we chose Vicopisano. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Dear Jack and kay
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba. It was great to hear that you found the apartment roomy and that our Tuscan bed is great! We really do appreciate this type of feedback.
We are so pleased you enjoyed discovering the charms of Vicopisano and it’s wonderful medieval fortress.
It was so lovely to meet you both but our only regret is that you couldn’t have stayed a little longer as you found out there is a lot more to discover in our little village!
We hope you come back and visit us again soon

Tim and I are fellow Flipkey owners and I knew that Marie was a professional, attentive property owner even before we arrived. Her prompt responses and the area information that she supplied prior to our trip made me feel we had made the right choice. Upon arrival, this was confirmed to the utmost. Marie and Lorenzo were charming, gracious hosts and were a fountain of information and tips that made our trip so much better than it would have been otherwise. Do not skip the tour of the Tower or of the olive farm as both were hightlights of our trip as many others have stated. The apartment was lovely, the bed was comfortable and the amenities were all that we needed. You can enjoy eating in or visit one of the many fine restaurants that are all a short drive (and an interesting one if you go to Buti!) away. Visopisano is an excellent location to tour the area but we found we were happiest when we sat in the square sipping Chianti and Moretti and watching the locals come and go. Thank you Marie and Lorenzo for an unforgettable vacation that we will carry in our memories forever. Tim is even talking about retiring there

Dear Lynne D
It is always wonderful to receive positive reviews from our guests but to receive such kind words and gratitude from a fellow VRBO owner it makes us feel very proud.
You and Tim were such great fun and it was lovely to meet you both and share some time with you at the Olive farm and for a drink in the Piazza.
How much longer is it before Tim retires?
We will happily reserve seat for him at his favourite bar!
Till then take care, keep in touch, and it’s great to keep up with you on our facebook page.

If you want to experience what Tuscany is all about, then Casa Colomba should be your home base to all the wonderful sights. Vicopisano is a little medieval jewel perched on a hill and overlooking a splendid Tuscan landscape. Casa Colomba is a cozy, charming, comfortable, and uniquely beautiful house. Coming "home" to Casa Colomba each day after outings to Rome, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, etc. was most definitely a highlight of our vacation. Walking distance to the local bar and the local grocery store, we felt we lived the Italian life even for a short week. Marie and Lorenzo are the most hospitable and charming landlords. We plan to be back during summer months to live and love life in Tuscany. Thank you Marie and Lorenzo.

First, I'd like to echo all the wonderful reviews that I've read - everything was wonderful! Now, what is the one piece of advice I had before I arrived? Marie can escort you on a trip to visit the local olive plantation and press. They have a little shop at the farm where the sell sangiovese (chianti grapes grown outside of the chianti region) wine, made locally with grapes grown on the farm. It's delicious! My wife and I were constantly running out of wine, and while we fell in love with the young checkout lady at the grocery store after our daily visits, the local sangiovese is incredible - not to be missed!

It was a pleasure to meet you both and we are so pleased you enjoyed the visit to the oil mill. Thank you for the advice about making the visit to the mill at the beginning of the vacation, I’m sure a lot of future guests will really appreciate this tip.
It’s great to hear you felt at home in our local mini market, the owners and staff love meeting our guests and as you discovered they are very charming and helpful.

Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I cannot say enough good things to complement Marie and Lorenzo on the quality of not only their apartment, but also how wonderful they are as hosts. You know, you can rent any apartment, but when the owners are so accommodating, it makes a stay in a special place even more special. All of Marie's recommendations were spot on, from public transportation to restaurant suggestions. Marie and Lorenzo literally rescued us on the first day of our arrival due to a complication with our car rental reservation. Word to the wise: make sure your diver license has been issued for more than one year...
One of the best things we did was to take Marie up on her walking tour. It not only helps you get oriented to the village of Vicopisano, but also gives you a great sense of the history and culture of this little gem of a place. Sipping cappuccinos in the village square and wandering the streets, gives you a very real snapshot of how Italian village life is lived. I think we may have even been the only tourists in town the week we stayed.
We can't wait for the opportunity to go back! Also, do not skip the olive oil mill tasting, it was a hightlight!

vancouverBest Tuscany location: Authentic, medieval village without touri
Left on 11/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We rented this dream home for six weeks. We can judge the quality and value of this rental against others in the same price range because we've had many long stays on our year long sabbatical (found after extensive internet searching and very early booking to get the best!). Marie and Lorenzo have a perfect Tripadvisor rating: it's because they and their home are fabulous! .
First, let us mention a few features we loved that might not have been mentioned before:
1. Location: The best
a. You get to live in real life, everyday Italy in a medieval village (with all the amenities you could want within a short walk) and yet, it’s super easy to get to Florence, Pisa, the coast, Sienna, Volterre, Vinci, Lucca etc. (by public transit or car). This is authentic Tuscany where we did not see any tourists for six weeks, but met many wonderful local people when we walked to the shop for bread, sampled meats in the deli, or stopped for an aperitif at the bar down the street before dinner.
b. We were right in town where we could walk a block or two to the square, the bakery, restaurants, markets, yet in the other direction a block or two over, we were immersed in nature, next to the park and river (which was great for walking and jogging!).
2. The prices. Because this is ‘real life’ small town Italy, and not tourist Italy, the price for food and drinks was amazing. Ask Marie about Il Botte Gaio, this family run deli where for ~2USD, you can get a delicious bottle of locally made house wine or a giant block of local cheese!
3. The spaciousness of this home! It is much bigger and airier than the photos convey. The ceilings are high, the layout is relatively open, and the extra space you might not know of from the photos- such as the library off of the livingroom, the eat-in kitchen, or the loggia, a separate beautiful den off of the kitchen- really make this home much larger than a one bedroom apartment. It can easily accommodate a family of five.
4. Safe, secure, and quiet. The town feels relaxed, and crime-free, and the design is such that you have to go through two locked doors to get in. Marie and Lorenzo live in the apartment below this one (which is great if you need anything!), but because the building is made of stone, it’s very private and virtually soundproof.
5. We could readily park our car for free near the apartment (not something you can easily do in most ancient villages!). The village was also largely flat and not hilly (also unusual for a medieval village).
6. Ambience. This was a working trip for us so we spent far more time ‘at home’ than the typical tourist. But this is the kind of home you feel good being in a lot. We are used to a 4500 sqft modern home, but we both felt we could live in this apartment indefinitely.
Other major highlights we loved, and worth repeating even though mentioned before:
7. Perfect blend of old and new. This home is functionally modern yet you are absolutely aware of living in a truly ancient medieval building. It is sleek yet cozy, beautifully decorated, with comfortable furniture and all modern conveniences. We worked at home a lot (the wifi was great!), and we made a lot of home-cooked meals (kitchen is fully equipped!). Yet it felt like old Italy, with the stone floors, the exposed brick walls and huge ceiling timbers, the Tuscany styled kitchen and the village tower bells ringing in the background.
8. Brilliant service. Lorenzo and Marie are perfectly fluent in both English and Italian as well as the cultures of England and Italy. They are modest but you can tell them take well-deserved pride in the renovation of this tower, and in pleasing their guests who stay in it. This is not a rental to make money but rather something they are truly passionate about. They both have professional backgrounds in the hospitality industry and it shows.
9. Attention to detail. Just to give you some random examples: They provide backpacks and umbrellas for your use, along with tons of guidebooks and every imaginable brochure. Free soap and moisturizers in the bathroom, and a welcome basket of goodies and drinks for your arrival. The comfy bathrobes and choice of pillows were great too. And Marie has put together a book on everything you could possibly want to know- from the post office, to the library, to the hair salons, and detailed directions to restaurants in the area. In this book you can learn when to eat in Italy and how people typically order, the hours of the shops, what people can get at the bars in town, or how to use the post office. And if it isn’t in the book, they are fast to help you with any questions you might have.
Everyone we rent should be of this high caliber. After being spoiled in Tuscany by Lorenzo and Marie, it is going to be tough to adapt to ‘normal’ again.Response from Marie & Lorenzo - 01/16/2013

Marie and Lorenzo have created a wonderful apartment for their guests. Marie answered all our questions via email before we got there, which only made us more excited to arrive. She and Lorenzo were such fun hosts, and everything you could ever need is found in a book Marie compiled, including how long it takes to walk to town - a whole 2.5 minutes! Vicopisano is a perfect town to serve as a hub for other sites, such as Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and San Gimignano. The town is quaint, the locals were warm and friendly, and we found ourselves relaxing into the flow of everyday life there. We highly recommend taking advantage of 'renting a Tuscan friend' for a cooking lesson (fascinating and delicious) and other trips out of town to such sites as a winery, medieval town and pasta factory. Casa Colomba is a little treasure to visit and make your home on your holiday. If there was one drawback it would be the 35 stairs you have to climb to get to the apartment, so it is not for folks who have any trouble walking or doing stairs. Other than that, it's a jewel.

SydneyStunning apartment in what is quite possibly the friendliest tow
Left on 09/18/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My husband and I spent 3 wonderful weeks staying in Casa Colomba this august.
Our first impressions of the town and the apartment were equally favourable. As in: wow!! The apartment is actually better than it looks on the website. It is all spotlessly clean, and Marie & Lorenzo have thought of absolutely everything. And I mean everything. Soap, detergent, spare towels; you name it. There are maps and guide books and a bookshelf of great holiday reads (in case you run out of books, like I did). They even put together a welcome pack of groceries (and prosecco!!) so that when we arrived after our long journey, we didn't have to think about shopping straight away.
Italy was experiencing a heat wave while we were there, but the apartment was high enough to catch the wind, which cooled everything down to a pleasant sleeping temperature...and there is an electric fan in each room anyway to help with circulation.
And did I mention how friendly everyone is? Marie & Lorenzo are definitely the most accommodating hosts we have ever met in all our years of travel. Apart from the exceptional pre-stay communication (all emails answered quickly, all concerns addressed), Marie went out of her way to make us comfortable. She booked restaurants for us, gave us the skinny on the best beaches to go to, and even took us all out one day for a tour of Vicopisano (she's a bit of a history buff). We finished it off with a visit to the local olive-oil maker, who thanks to Marie's introduction invited us all in to his house for a tasting of all the wonderful food (and oil) they produce on the farm. This was definitely the highlight of our whole trip!
The town itself is terrific. It's small, but the locals are super friendly and welcoming. Actually I don't think there's a friendlier town in all of Italy.
And if you can be there for the Medieval Festival like we were, then you will definitely take home memories to keep for a lifetime.
Would we go back? Absolutely!!Response from Marie & Lorenzo - 10/27/2012

Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The renovated apartment is spacious and well appointed. The kitchen has everything you need to enjoy Italian food. The loggia has fine views of the sweeping countryside. The sitting room is spacious and comfortable. There is good internet Wi-Fi, TV and DVD player. The village itself is set on a small hill, with Brunelleschi's tower perched on top. The village square is compact with the some shops and cafes around it. The village people are noted for their friendliness - especially so if you speak Italian. Buses can be taken from the square to Pisa, Pontedera. Firenze is also nearby and easy to reach by train from Pontedera. We had a wonderful two weeks in the flat and would very much like to return one day soon.

It was a magical experience witht eh only reason in not giving it a five star rating being that it was very warm without air conditioning. Perhaps rather than having just ceiling lighting, there could have been ceiling fans with lighting instead to have made it cooler. The gite was wonderfully appointed and very plush. We found the recommendations of the owners to be perfect. We concentrated our dining experience in the town of Buti and were never disappointed. Marie's thirty-one page information packet was extremely helpful. The welcome package provided by Marie and Lorenzo proved invaluable as all of the stores were closed when we arrived. We would love to return again in the spring or fall.

Dear Kip
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so pleased you found our Casa Colomba “enticing” and we delighted you loved discovering all the local restaurants both near and off the beaten track. It’s great to hear that you found both our pre welcome pack and the red book in the apartment useful and informative. We must also thank you for sharing valuable “secret” information about how to obtain tickets for the Uffizi without booking on line or queuing for hours, this really is a secret which we did not know about and which will prove very useful to our future guests! We are only disappointed that the apartment became to warm for you during this current southern European heat wave. Normally the fans we supply in the apartment are sufficient during the warmer season but we have to admit not only us but the whole nation has been completely caught out by this abnormally hot summer. We are so pleased to hear it hasn't put you off visiting us again. We really do hope to be able to welcome you again at Casa Colomba one day in the future, till then best wishes and kind regards

We spent a week at Casa Colomba in July. We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts, Marie and Lorenzo. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with lots of extra little touches. The washing machine made travelling by budget airline very easy and we managed very well with hand luggage only. The village is an oasis of calm surrounded by wonderful Tuscan countryside but equally well placed for visiting Pisa and Florence. We would recommend a guided walk with Marie to gain an insight into the local area and also day at Casciana Terme which is an outdoor thermal spa swimming complex. The only downside for us was lack of air conditioning which made sleeping difficult as at the time of our stay there was a heatwave.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Casa Colomba. It was lovely to meet you both and I thoroughly enjoyed the walk we all did through the surrounding country side and olive groves. We are really looking forward to seeing all the photos you took especially the ones in the sunflower fields! We also enjoyed the night we spent at the festival in Buti, and we hope you enjoyed the fire eaters and dancing in the street, it was all great fun. We are so sorry you had difficulty sleeping due to our current heat wave. The temperatures are much higher than normal this year, usually the fan we provide is more than efficient however if this global warming continues we will certainly be installing AC. We hope the summer heat won’t stop you from returning and we do hope we get to meet you both again one day in the future.

Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed at Marie's and Lorenzo's apartment for 6 nights and enjoyed our stay very much. The place is very spacious and cosy with a reasonably well equipped kitchen and a nice loggia to relax in during the afternoon or evening hours. However, the apartment did get a bit too warm during our stay since the outside temperature was quite high - probably we would just have loved the place in late September or October! About the location: the house is located in the middle of Vicopisano, a picturesque small Tuscan village with an imposing fortress towering over the village houses. Distances to the nearby cities and the sea were easily covered in an hour of two - a splendid location for excursions to Pisa, Florence and Siena.

Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We choose Casa Columba based on pictures and reviews we read on the internet. Like most we also checked it out on google earth at street level. I would urge everyone now! Do not base your decision on the view you see of the entrance to the apartment from Via Lante,it does not do it justice. We have been to Italy before and the older buildings can look a bit tired on the outside, is this something to do with Italian planning laws?
From the start to finish we had a fantastic time. The apartment itself exceeded our expectations in every way and there is nothing that we can think of that could have been done better.
It is obvious that Marie & Lorenzo have thought of everything with basic provisions being provided in the apartment prior to your arrival so what ever time you get there is no pressure to find the nearest shop.
The welcome pack we received was excellent with lots of hints, tips and suggestions of places to visit and eat both near and far. We can both recommend the cooking lesson with Franco. The full day tour of Vicopisano especially the visit to the olive oil mill. Al Frantoio di Vicopisano owned by the Bovoli family. Great lunch and hospitality. I would reccommend that you buy another suitcase to accomodate all the products that once sampled you will want to buy and bring home. I should have hired a truck. We would not have been aware of any of these delights had it not been suggested to us by Marie and Lorenzo.
Vicopisano itself is a great location to explore the surrounding Tuscan countryside, only 30 minutes from the airport, with Florence, Lucca, Volterra and San Gimignano,to many places to mention, within one hour or less by car, even the beach at the Marina di Pisa is only 30 minutes away and once you have had enough of all that exploring finish off the evening in Vicopisano itself with a meal in a local restaurant and a drink at one of cafe bars in the market square.
All in all a great holiday.

It was nice to hear you enjoyed our Casa Colomba, even though it was a trifle hot when you were here, well much more so than the 14 degrees you had left at home!
Finally we have to say we were very impressed with your Italian, it really is very good and it was most appreciated by the locals.
You seemed so at home here in Vicopisano and we really do hope you’ll come past our way again one day soon. Till then warmest regards

WirralA fantastic stay at Casa Colomba
Left on 06/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We spent three nights at Casa Colomba and we wish we could have stayed longer, from the moment we arrived we felt at home, Marie was so welcoming and the apartment is so well equipped and comfortable - especially the Loggia, our favourite place. The welcome pack was wonderful, the cheese and Prosecco especially, we made good use of the welcome pack and the mini bar. The mini bar included some food items and wine/beer at very reasonable prices, we found this very useful when we were just too hot to venture out again. There was nothing we would have changed, it was just perfect, the attention to detail was fantastic, everything we needed was provided. The extensive guides and books give you endless opportunities for exploring the surrounding areas. There is a file of information provided that you can take out of the apartment or just borrow pages and return them at the end of the day, we used this daily and found it an invaluable addition to the many 'extras' provided. We loved Vicopisano, everyone was very friendly and welcoming, especially when we tried out our limited Italian vocabulary! In our short time there we fitted in quite a lot but highlights of the area were the tour of Torre Brunelleschi and cycling around the walls at Lucca. Marie and Lorenzo have done a fantastic job in restoring this apartment whilst retaining its character, we loved it here and hope to return.

Dear P & D thank you so much for your wonderfull review. We too wish you could have stayed a lot longer; however we were still impressed with the amount you manged to fit in within your short stay. We are so pleased you managed to climb the Brunelleschi tower in the village, it's something which sometimes gets overlooked for the must see other destinations in Tuscany. I'm sure we can still give you a lot more suggestions, so you'll just have to come back!! It was lovely to meet you Kindest regards Marie & Lorenzo

Our stay at Casa Colomba was wonderful. Marie & Lorenzo are amazing hosts who go out of their way to ensure you have an amazing stay in Tuscany. The other Vrbo reviewers that say they were superb hosts, that the pictures don't do the property justice or would recommend the place to family and friends or return on their own are right on! Even before we arrived Marie communicated with me on the details of the stay and once booked provided a welcome guide with thorough information about both the property, town and surrounding area. Upon arrival, we toured the beautiful home and were not disappointed. As stated before, the Vrbo pictures do not do the property justice. The home is spotlessly clean and has everything you could need. The town of Vicopisano is an overlooked yet worthwhile destination in its own right. Walking to the bar each morning for breakfast was a special treat and visiting the fortress in town should not be missed. Be sure to check out the local restaurants during your stay (the information Marie provides describes them all) as we had some of our best meals just a walk away. Marie was also helpful with the small details like helping us order coffee to our liking, educating us on the local tourism and helping us make a personal phone call regarding our rental car. She was available yet not intrusive. She also shared fun insight on the local culture (especially happy hour!). The information in the welcome guide we received after booking helped us plan a delightful stay in Tuscany. The property location makes day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Chianti and Florence all enjoyable and returning to the small village off the beat and path is very relaxing. When I booked Casa Colomba I did so because of the amazing location, fantastic reviews and thorough information on the website. I am so glad that I did - we expected it to be a fantastic place and the results were even better than expected. You cannot go wrong in staying at this Vrbo!

Dear Anne Thank you so much for your wonderful informative review of Casa Colomba and Vicopisano. Lorenzo and I were amazed at everything you managed to see and do during your short stay here. We love to hear of our guests discovering the village and interacting with the villagers and of course enjoying all the traditions and little curiosities. The aperitivi time always seems to be a favourite! It was so lovely to meet you both and we hope very much to see you again in the future but for longer next time! Best wishes Marie & Lorenzo

LeedsFantastic Honeymoon at Casa Colomba!
Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We spent a glorious week at Casa Colomba as part of our Honeymoon in april. Marie & Lorenzo are the perfect hosts and could not have been more helpful and friendly, always on hand, but discreet enough if you wanted a more private holiday. We absolutely loved the village and the whole area, the people were so friendly and the local bars, shops, scenery all so lovely! We especially loved our morning trips to the local bakers for fresh bread and croissants for breakfast and picking up a freshly roasted chicken from the Rosticceria for Saturday supper! And a visit (or 3)to Il Botte Gaio for wine, cheese, olives and local hams is a must!
The weather was very mixed, but we managed to do all and visit everywhere we wanted and hope to be back soon to do the more traditional things in the area such as olive oil and wine tasting. Casa Colomba is fabulous, we loved being there and wanted to stay forever, it was spotless and the welcome pack was really appreciated, all the special touches made it perfect and it really lived up to it's reputation, but we don't want too many people to find out in case we can't get in to book again!!
We also found Marie and Lorenzo's 'bible' of the area and attractions absolutely fantastic and never left the house without some instruction or direction!
Thank you so much Marie and Lorenzo, we hope to see you again very soon! Jayne and ade xResponse from Marie & Lorenzo - 05/27/2012

I stayed at Casa Columba for a week. This place is lovely. Marie is so helpful. She and Lorenzo have designed and decorated this place so beautifuly yet kept the historic value. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything I needed, and it was so Tuscany! The village is so sweet and centrally located, I was able to take in much of the countryside as well as Piza and Florence. Love it.. I'd stay there again and recommend it to anyone!

Marie and Lorenzo are friendly and caring hosts who were on hand to give advice and very good service. The little touches and attention to detail - welcome pack, rucksacks and umbrellas enabled us to go off and enjoy ourselves. We loved the decor - a mix of antique and modern that combined tradition with convenience. The village of Vicopisano is steeped in history and provides a good insight into real Tuscan life. We enjoyed visiting the local bars and restaurants plus the Sunday antique market. We used the local shops as the quality of the produce was excellent and the village has very good transport links to the major cities - Pisa, Florence, Lucca which can be visited in a day with ease. Overall the accommodation and location were perfect to visit the beautiful cities and then retreat to somewhere less busy but also being 30 minutes from the airport you are there in no time. We can't wait to return for a summer break as the beaches are only 30 minutes away.

AtlantaThe Best Vacation Rental Property We've Ever Stayed at
Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This was the best vacation rental property we've ever stayed at. Marie and Lorenzo went way above and beyond in making us feel at home both at the property and in the village. This what you think of when you think Tuscany! The traditional Tuscan tower building has magnificent wood beamed cathedral ceilings supported by ancient stone walls. These are paired with a modern bathroom and new Tuscan style country kitchen. Before running off to nearby Florence or Pisa would highly, highly suggest you spend a full day in the village of Vicopisano. We did and it was the most memorable day we spent in Tuscany. From meeting the local olive grower and his family to visiting the ancient and historical towers of the town, there is much to experience in this truly off-the-beaten path part of Tuscany. It was heaven to be slightly removed from the maddening tourist crowds of Florence. We almost stayed in Florence and we were so glad we didn't. Marie's suggestions on what to do and see were invaluable to making our trip to Tuscany truly memorable. The information they provided at the property is very extensive from where to get the best espresso to the numerous restaurants nearby covering all price ranges. The apartment is located in the heart of the village and you can walk to the baker, Italian bars, restaurants and olive growers nearby. Vicopisano is also very convenient for for day trips to other cities, towns and vineyards in the heart of Tuscany. Do yourself a favor and stay here!

We were excited the minute we saw this property on the website, it was done so beautifully it stood out from anything else and it certainly didn't let us down. A home from home the minute you walk through the door, a delightful local town with friendly shop owners and as for Marie & Lorenzo they are the icing on the cake. They go out of their way from the welcome pack on arrival, to ordering flowers and booking a meal for valentines day. This is definitely the best owner experience we have had from people who really care about what they do. Thanks a million, Marie & Mike xx

The photo's of this apartment look beautiful however even they do not do full justice, we have to say it is the most stunning apartment we have stayed in. It really is like staying in a top hotel in terms of amenities but with the total privacy and relaxation that only a private apartment can offer. The owners, Marie and Lorenzo could not have done anymore to help with our break, they provide so much information on the numerous things to see and do in and around the area (we can thoroughly recommend the Olive oil tasting, a wonderful morning). My husband and I came here for a short relaxing break and have left planning to return for longer.

We spent 6 nights in the charming and comfortable Casa Colomba - right in the centre of Vicopisano, but with a fabulous view of the countryside. Communications before and after the booking was made were excellent, and the attention to detail in the apartment made for a great holiday. The village is steeped in history, and arriving at a festival weekend was an added bonus that made the stay even more special. This is a place for a relaxing holiday, or as a great base to explore Northern Tuscany. Beach towels are even provided, and we also had a day at the coast which is only 40 minutes way.

Dear Marie & Lorenzo
With much delay we write to you to thank you for a wonderful and very relaxing stay in Casa Columba. The apartment is beautiful, a little treasure, thank you for letting us use it as our home for the week, as that is how comfortable we felt. You have thought of everything, from the treat basket on arrival, your wonderful information bible which gave us some excellent recommendations for restaurants, local shopping and train/bus links. We had such fun in the village shops trying to make ourselves understood, people were so patient and helpful. The wild boar sausages form 'Testi' are a must!! and the pastries are dangerous. Having our own transport we ventured to Sienna, San Gimignano and Lucca, however we also took advantage of the train link from Pontadera, and visited Florence and Pisa, wish the UK rail system was as cheap and timely.
We hope we will be able to meet again one day and see how your little project has progressed! Mille Grazie. Kim & Stephen

My mother-in-law and I were in need of some emotional rejuvenation and relaxation, and we found that and more in our tower house in Vicopisano. Marie and Lorenzo were beyond thoughtful and welcoming hosts, and before we even arrived, we knew we were in for something special at Casa Colomba. It is a place truly created on love by the two of them. Imagine living in a medieval tower with tastefully exposed stone walls dating back hundreds of years, but with modern touches offering warmth, artistic creativity and hospitality all encompassing familiar comforts.
Never have I stayed in a more quiet area...the only sounds are that of the enchanting nearby tower bells and soothing pigeons cooing. I felt like I stepped back in time. Vicopisano is charming beyond compare... we were the only foreigners in town that we were aware of, and the people of the village could spot us tall blondies from a mile away. We laughed a lot, as they were amused at our attempts at Italian. It was refreshing to be in such an authentically Italian village enjoying simple pleasures. They were exceptionally helpful and friendly people when ordering at one of the local cafes or when shopping at the market.
Casa Colomba has a fabulous rustic kitchen (in a good, Tuscan way!) with all utensils and pots/pans necessary to enjoy cooking up some pasta, veggies and rustic Tuscan meals to enjoy over some amazing wines from the region. Marie has a personally written book of a million recommendations of places to go and things to do in town or nearby areas, and there is not a chance anybody could be bored here. However, we were in need of an escape to peace, and could not have found a more exceptional place to find it than at Casa Colomba. We didn't want to leave our tower house! We felt like two princesses of leisure, and bonded amidst this fantastically organic and authentic experience away from the trappings of tourists and busy life.
I will return here one day with my husband for a romantic getaway, and will recommend it to any of my friends going to Tuscany in need of a special experience off the beaten path. It is a gem of a place, and deeply Tuscan...both the apartment and the town. Amazingly, we felt truly at home even though on the other side of the world! We were so sad to leave. -

Casa Colomba a charming historical medieval tower retreat, is located in a beautiful sleepy tuscan village of Vicopisano. This was a much needed break and the warm welcome by the owners, Marie and Lorenzo made me feel instantly at home. Nothing was too much for these amazing owners. Casa Colomba is beautifully and tastefully decorated, and has kept all of her romantic charm. Casa Colomba surrounded by breathtaking scenary is very clean, and every room is fully equipped for their guests needs. For a small fee, Marie was my personal tour guide, a 1/2 day tour to see the leaning tower of Pisa and the history of Vicopisano. Casa Colomba is ideal for singles, families, groups, honeymooners, but unfortunately not suitable for persons with walking difficulties, due to the stairs to the apartment.
Casa Colomba definitely worth the 5 star treat.

Marie was helpful before our stay in confirming the hours of Collodi's Parco di Pinocchio and during our stay at setting up a private wine-tasting nearby. Our stay in Casa Columba was relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable!
The accommodation was superb with thoughtful decor and furnishings throughout.
Our hosts Lorenzo and Marie were extremely helpful both before and during our stay, which helped us to get the most from our first visit to the region.
The highlight of our trip was our day in Florence and we were delighted at how we coped using the public transport system with our very limited knowledge of the Italian language.
We found the Italians, especially in the restaurants we visited, to be very friendly and sympathetic, though our experience of Italian food was not always what we had hoped it would be!
We will certainly be returning to Italy. -

our hosts have been very very helpful. a concise travel direction was provided before travelling and upon arrival, a detailed information folder was given, which contains places to see, where to eat and other interesting things to do. the photos do not really do justice to the rentals appearance. you have to see it in person. the property was clean.
the loggia is really a nice place to sit down or lie down and relax, rad a book, drink some wine. one thing which i might have to say is, i guess because the loggia is such a nice spot to sit down and relax, the mattress is already overused.
the owner was very helpful (but the information about bicycle rental has to be revised).
i would surely recommend this property to people i know, who love the peace and quiet. cheers to the owners and i wish them good health, so when i plan to visit that part of the world, i would get to enjoy their company again. -

This place is spotless, very well decorated and spending time in the loggia made the stay in this apartment so much more special, different from any other place we have stayed in. It will certainly be hard to top this one...
Marie has put together a book detailing everything you need to know about the area, if its not in there, you don't need to know it. I would certainly recommend this place both for the accommodation and for spending time in Vicopisano, here you get a true taste of the Tuscan lifestyle. -

We spent just under a week in this beautiful apartment and it was truly a very relaxing place to stay. Marie has decorated the lofty rooms to a very high standard and for a couple sharing there is a very generous kitchen and two living areas.
The apartment is in the center of Vicopisano, a quiet village with some lovely places to eat and drink located in and around the area.
The welcome pack contained a lovely chilled bottle of Prosecco, which we opened upon arrival, a reward after climbing the step stairs with our luggage.
Marie has obviously put in a lot of time and effort compiling a helpful hints folder about Vicopisano and it's surroundings, including bus and train timetables to travel to the larger towns and cities.
Many thanks for a lovely stay and we would recommend your apartment to anyone.

Beautiful apartment in a lovely rural location that is close enough to main cities for easy access. Marie and Lorenzo are wonderful hosts who helped make our holiday enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks and well done!

GermanyA fantastic apartment.

We stayed 1 week in the fantastic apartment Casa Colomba. The proprietors, Marie and Lorenzo, had bought the tower and recently renovated it so everything is new.
When we arrived, we were received by Marie. They live downstairs, which is very practical if you have any question or problem.
Everything was super clean which is a important point for us! The apartment has many appliances that make your stay better : a toaster, espresso café machine, washing machine.
There is wireless internet !
And a loggia with beautiful views were we had breakfast and dinner.
Marie and Lorenzo are the perfect hosts, always very helpful and at the same time giving you privacy.
The weak points would be: the very steep stair, no dishwasher and the TV did not have many foreign channels (but we did not watch TV during our stay, so we did not care).
The apartment is ideally placed to visit Pisa and Lucca (about 25 min. by car). Other places of Tuscany need 1-2 hour drive (San Gimignano, Siena)
I would recommend Casa Colomba to my friends, we loved it ! In fact, you could spend the holidays in the apartment without going outside!
