Had a great time at Captain Jaks. The Villa was excellent, the 2 decks we had were perfect, would have breakfast on the back deck and afternoon cocktails on the front deck. We were within easy walking distance, a couple blocks maybe away from our favorite happy hr pub. The food was excellent in town, we never had a meal we didnt love. Lucky and Erin and Jason were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. The 2 talking parrots they have were very entertaining. The property was very well kept. Would highly recommend this place to stay.

My family of four , myself, my husband, 2 boys aged 16 and 18 and my sister have traveled quite a bit. We have always gone all inclusive so this was going to be a challenge for me. I e-mailed Lucky and Erin many times they always answered my e-mails right away and calmed my worries. We rented the main villa as there was 5 of us.
The Villa:
The villa has 2 actual bedrooms with queen beds, one of the bedrooms has a bathroom with a shower. Each has a overhead fan and air conditioning. We never turned it on as we had the windows open at night and with the fans going was comfy. There is a TV in each of the bedrooms . The main bath also has a shower. The living room and kitchen dining area is wide open with three ceiling fans. The kitchen was very well equipped even had a blender and toaster, coffee pot... large fridge, stove, freezer under the fridge. They had games, books, movies under the large TV in the living room. There are two main decks off the villa one to the street side where we sat in the afternoon to catch the breeze, the other in the back toward the yard and lagoon . We would have our morning coffee and sit and listen to Barney and Oliver talk in the mornings. (their two parrots in the back yard) they were a hoot to listen to. There are lots of birds to watch, Erin has hummingbird feeders on the back deck that we filled every second day. They also have a look out tower on the villa with two levels.
Location
Captain Jak's is on the lagoon. They have a dock with lounge chairs and chairs to sit and enjoy the fantastic weather, there is also a shaded area. Captain Jaks is directly across the road from a well stocked grocery store and just down the street from the Everyday market another grocery store. Almost next door to the farmers market for fruit and Veggies.
They are about a 4 minute walk to the beach about 1 block to the sand , 6-10 minute stroll to restaurants and to bars. So it is in town close to everything but not to close. Captain Jak's rents kayaks, mopeds, golf carts, little 4 wheel bike thingies all right there. They have 3 one story cabanas and 2 two story with two bedrooms as well as the main villa.
The People
Lucky and Erin own the resort, Jason works there. When we got there we were greeted by my sister who arrived earlier then we did and Jason who told us where to get groceries and answered our questions. Yes you can drink the water out of the tap here. In the morning Lucky and Erin came up and we talked about tours etc. They were not pushy at all and he told us what there was to do. We told him what we wanted and when and he booked it for us. The cab was late to pick us up and he even phoned to see what was up. Erin introduced us to aerobella ( Sorry about the spelling Erin) her parrot. Erin told us about where to shop, they told us their favourite restaurants. And I must say they were right. Every meal we ate was fantastic. Barefoot bar , De Tach, another I cannot remember the name, Omars, ( they do not serve alcohol but you can bring a drink from the Barefoot next door to drink with your meal) . Anything we needed or wanted Lucky and Erin were more then happy to help us out. Jason cut down some coconuts for some of us guests and he cut them open for us so we could eat the meat. Jason also was very good at answering questions and was more then happy to help us out if we needed anything.
This was a totally different vacation then the all inclusive that we are used and we all absolutely loved it. It was nice to be able to sit on the back deck with a cold beer and watch the people walking on the road while playing backgammon.. Paradise..
My husband and I , and sister loved it and so did the boys. It has a small town feel, ( A friend of theirs got a hair cut and lots of people noticed) .We felt very safe, walking on the main road or on the sidewalk. Saturday afternoon horseshoe tournie at the Barefoot Bar was a hit with the boys. The food everywhere was fantastic, Captain Jak' is close to everything but not to close, minutes to the beach, Nice to be able to rent a golf cart right there. We were there for 12 days and felt like we were leaving our family , Lucky and Erin when we left. We will for sure return to Captain Jaks. -

We were satisified with our one week stay at Captain Jaks. We had a cozy comfortable and clean cabin. The property is well located within easy walking distance to the beach, stores and restaurants, but the cabins are set in a charming tropical garden so that when you are sitting on the cabin veranda looking out to the pier and the lagoon you do not feel like you are in town at all. Captain Jaks has golf carts, bikes and kayaks available for renting at reasonable prices and it is a great way to explore the immediate area. Our congenial hosts Erin and Lucky made our stay effortless. Jason was also always he was alwayspleasant to talk with. All in all Captain Jaks is a great place to stay if you are planning to visit the Placencia area!

The property is beautiful! I stayed in the villa with others from my field school, and we all fell in love with the place. It was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the location was perfect! Erin and Lucky are an awesome and super friendly couple; they made sure we got everything that we needed, and were always around if we did want anything. If I ever get the opportunity to travel to Placencia again, I will definitely stay at Captain Jak's.

We booked out stay through a tour company called Caribbean Tours, which triple booked us and our friends and left us sharing a cabana (book directly through Captain Jak's and avoid Caribbean Tours at all costs). Lucky and Erin, the owners of Captain Jak's, cleared things up and made us feel completely at home. These two are amazing people and do everything they can to accommodate their guests.
The cabanas and cabins are beautiful, with Belizean made hardwood furniture, plenty of floor fans, and everything you need to have a great stay. They're comfortable, clean, and the property itself has a lot to offer as far as local flora and fauna (two parrots, Barney and Oliver, that greet you as you come and go).
The price is right and the experience is enhanced just by staying at Captain Jak's.
Lucky and Erin are great with booking local flights, dive trips, etc. and can usually get you a 10-20% discount. We saved 20% on our flight back to Belize City ($40 on two tickets) by booking through them, and 10% on our two dive trips at avadon Dive. -

My husband and I stayed in the Villa and it was wonderful. We would have enjoyed taking our children but this was a trip just for the two of us. The owners, Erin and Lucky are great hosts and have great insight to the area's to visit. We went on the Monkey forest tour with Percy and it was amazing.

Caption Jaks is a wonderful little resort, moved to excellence by the gracious and wholehearted involvement of owners, Erin and Lucky Ivy. Lucky and Erin greet their guests with a smile and a helping hand to ensure each has a unique stay which meets their vacation wish list. They will assist in setting up tours, recommending local businesses which will meet the need of each guest, etc. We loved our stay and can't wait to return. We are a family of six with kids ranging in age from 8 to 16 years. We also travelled with Grandparents. It is remarkable to find a resort equally loved by the whole family - this is it!

From the time we checked in to the time we left, the hospitality was great. Lucky made us feel right at home and was always there when we needed something. The groundskeeper Jason was just as helpful and friendly and willing to help us with anything. The cabana was very secluded and tidy and we felt right at home. I preferred being on the lagoon side of the peninsula because there seemed to be less wind than the Sea side. The beach was about a 5 minute walk so the location was ideal. Also since Placencia is so small we were within walking distance to all of the bars/ restaurants. If I ever go back to Placencia, I would definitely consider Captain Jaks as my first choice.

Placencia is a simple, authentic Belizean village at the end of the peninsula and Captain Jak's is located in the centre of the village.
Erin and Lucky Ivey own Captain Jak's and are the most gracious, welcoming of hosts. They will do all they can to make your stay comfortable. They ensure that you know of the many village activities, since they are such an integral part of those activities and will do their best to help you see around the peninsula and the country.
Captain Jak's provides golf carts, bicycles and kayaks for your rental use. The grounds are beautifully kept with tropical flowers and plants. One of my favorite spots is the swing you will find in a shady spot just outside one of the cabanas. It is such a peaceful refuge to savour the beauty of your surroundings and just "chill out". As well, you can wander out to the dock on the lagoon just past the cabanas, where you will see locals in their small fishing boats, the occasional manatee, as well as the most spectacular sunset you could ever imagine.
There are accommodation options which range from the beautiful second floor villa, where seven of my family members and I stayed, to one of several cabanas spread throughout the grounds.
Erin and Lucky are funloving, outgoing, kind and hardworking. They are amazing ambassadors for Placencia and for Captain Jak's. Erin and Lucky make Captain Jak's feel like a home away from home and they do it with such apparent ease. I can assure you that you may arrive as a tourist but you will leave as a friend.
