Being right next to the Maya Beach Hotel Bistro means you can dine out when you want, yet cook in your kitchen if that's what you're in the mood for. Green Cove Springs, FLDreamsicle, dated but good
Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My wife and I spent two night on the first floor, along with friends (husband & wife) in the second bedroom. Just enough privacy, but need to limit this arrangement to only a couple of days, as there's not much separate space.
We took all our meals at Maya Beach Hotel next door. Excellent food.
Dreamsicle is dated, could use a good going over, but it was clean and everything worked.
This was our second stay in this property, the first was about six years ago. That time the weather was warmer, so we made use of the pool. January is a bit cool for us to be in the water, so we just looked at it. -

San Diego, CaliforniaThe best of both worlds!
Left on 08/10/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My family and I had an amazing time staying for 13 days at this beach house. The house itself is a perfect size with air conditioning, a clean working kitchen, 2 comfortable bedrooms & cute seaside livingroom furnishings. It also has the private pool w/ huge upper deck & greatfully breezy, beachside location. But- its best feature was- Ellen and the Maya Beach Resort. Together you get the shared use of their onsite use of pools, bikes, kayaks, daily maid service, cleanly raked beaches, & awesome dining, swimming dock + the knowledge and ability to care for your every need. Ellen and Jim's Maya Beach Resort really went beyond the call of duty caring for us. That's why their staff is on the pictures! It's that dedication to great service that people remember! The Maya's famous Bistro was also spectacular, from their complimentary
fresh brewed morning coffee to delicious evening meals & cocktails served pool side. We even were able to walk 1 block for a family bowling night!!We felt so pampered to have a location offering the best of so many worlds. "The Dreamsicle's" private house, the great location and cool breezes, & The Maya and their staff and to complete the perfect family vacation. We would recommend staying here with 5 big stars, & look forward to coming back.Thx so much Maya!, Carol, Tom & family -

Casual accomodations somewhat secluded from much traffic. Maya Beach was nice central location to either stay local (beach, kayak, hammock, walk-to dining) or drive to day trip and see Belize (Ruins, cave tours, jungle trails). My wife and I too rarely will have chances like this to get away, since we have a large family with many responsibilities, but this was very nice location to enjoy the country from.

Three Rivers, CAA family reunion at the Dreamsicle
Left on 04/28/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We rented all three units of the Dreamsicle for a family reunion. It was ideal for our group of 9, including two small kids. The swimming pool was a big hit. Having a beach with lots of shade was a huge plus. The Maya Beach restaurant was excellent. You're 30 minutes north of Placencia, so it's nice to have transportation. The Dreamsicle is a great rental unit.

Left on 03/03/2011 for a stay in January 2011
What's not to like about the Maya Beach Hotel and the Dreamsicle House? Six steps down to the sand from the deck and 26 more to the sea!! Daily maid service by Merle and Maggie was great - they, as well as the rest of the Maya Beach staff treated us like long lost friends come home again . The pool adjacent to the house is private - though we manatees had some difficulties hoisting ourselves out - older folks should have a ladder installed for them. The house had fans, which along with the sea breezes, were definitely enough to be comfortable - we never even used the air conditioning.
As for the Bistro restaurant - words cannot describe the fusion of flavours , the presentation and the extraordinary tastes created in that kitchen! Seafood - fresh daily and fruits so fresh -- the juices spilled down our chins! We ate an entire Peanut Brittle Ice Cream Cake - the other desserts were to die for - I sampled the world's best Key Lime pie and Banana Cream Pie - who knew that freshly picked bananas tasted so wonderful!
I cannot say enough about our visit - to Ellen, John, Kim and Marlon and all the Bistro Boys --- kudos to you - we are definitely going back! -

Washington, DCUnpretentious Paradise
Left on 03/01/2011 for a stay in February 2011
Despite the movie-set quality beach and fantastic service, the Maya Beach Hotel is as unpretentious as they come. The hotel experience isn't about flat screen TVs in the rooms, but about the breathtaking beach, unforgettable excursions, relaxation, and delicious food. I went to the Maya Beach Hotel with four of my best friends and now i can't even imagine a better location for a low key girls getaway.
Looking for some recommendations? Try anything on the menu you're not allergic to, chances are you'll love it. Want to go on an excursion? It'll be a hard choice between fantastic jungles, magical caves complete with waterfalls, or ancient ruins. Want to wear flip flops to dinner and do nothing at all? The hotel is perfect for that too. In fact, whatever you want to do, the hotel's friendly staff will try their best to accommodate your wishes.
An utterly unforgettable experience! -

Left on 02/28/2011 for a stay in January 2011
This was our second visit to the Maya Beach Hotel. The location is great as we wanted a beach vacation well away from the crowds and were not disappointed. The unit was very clean and spacious. We did much of our own cooking. Make plans to purchase groceries in Placencia as local choices are limited. If you splurge and eat at the hotel you are in for some great dining. John and Ellen are gracious hosts and will make all the arrangements for you. We can't wait to return.

We had such a great time at Maya Beach! We spent the beginning of the trip in the Jaguar Room and then when we decided to extend (because Maya Beach was so perfect!) we moved into the Dreamsicle Studio because the Jaguar Room was booked. Both were great! The Studio was more economical and everything we needed. Plus it was great to have a kitchen, though the food in the restaurant was so delicious it was hard to cook for ourselves. Ellen was super helpful and really friendly! She set us up with a couple incredible day trips to go snorkeling and caving! The other days we kayaked and swam around the hotel and biked into town. It was a perfect vacation!

What a great place to stay! We loved our first visit to Belize and John, Ellen, and their staff couldn't have been nicer. There were a total of 8 us (two families each with two teenage daughters). The food was absolutely amazing, John is a wonderful chef. Ellen is the consumate hostess, and she went above and beyond by arranging a couple of different outings for us. We rented both floors of the Dreamsicle House for week and thouroghly enjoyed the experience. We ate all but two meals at the Bistro, the food was so good that we had to try everything on the menu. Since the Bistro is closed on Monday evenings, John arranged for a local fish monger to provide us some fresh fish to cook in our fully furnished kitchen. We are planning a return visit in Feb. 2011!

Amazing Deal!!
Boston, MAExcellent Service & Amazing Food!
Left on 08/12/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Maya Beach Hotel is an amazing deal! I can't believe the price we paid for all that we got. Maya Beach Hotel is a quiet, very nice & clean, and extremely well run hotel in the Maya Beach area. The restaurant definitely lived up to it's reputation with some of the best food I've ever eaten. We went on a couple day trips-snorkeling, Mayan ruins, cave swimming, hiking at the Cockscomb Reserve and had a great time. Ellen fixed us up with all the tours, requiring no work on our part. We literally just said this is what we want to do and she made it happen.
We could not have had more beautiful scenery with a pool right outside our door and the beach and ocean just on the other side. The pictures on the website don't do the location or rooms justice--it's even nicer with your own eyes. The staff is great--very friendly and helpful. John and Ellen are amazing owners. They are always available to help set up a tour, they can answer any questions you have, and they're great people to just hang out and talk to. I don't think I could say enough great things about John & Ellen or their staff.
The hotel is about 8 miles from the town of Placencia so we would recommend renting a car if you want more freedom traveling around. Placencia is a small town with restaurants and companies that run tours, but it is not as developed as some other areas of Belize. If you are looking for a big resort with lots of fancy perks, Placencia may not be the area for you. But if you like a little more adventure along with beautiful scenery you will love this area!
We were very satisfied with our stay and would definitely return in a heartbeat.

I couldn't be more happy with everything about this place, the owners, workers, pools, rooms, service, etc! Not to mention the wonderful food. I just wish I could find some of that jelly in the states that went on the garlic and goat cheese dish. Mmmm! Ellen and John are very wonderful and hosted us with great hospitality. When we needed anything they were on it! They recommended great and affordable tours. We loved going in to Placencia and visiting with the locals. Overall it was a very relaxing time. Thank to all! Maya Beach Hotel is a must!

First stay, one year earlier, was great. Second stay this year was awesome. House is nice. House keeping daily. Everything works. Good kitchen. Great view of the ocean. Private, house ,pool or you can go 50’ across the beach to the Maya Beach Hotel pool. It’s a little longer pool. If you don’t feel like cooking, the Maya Beach Bistro serves excellent fresh cuisine. It’s affordable too. We will be staying at the dreamsicle house again.

Left on 03/28/2010 for a stay in March 2010
We really did a lot of research to find the perfect
place to stay in Belize and succeeded! We wanted
something low key & friendly and were drawn to
Placencia because it seemed culturally diverse and
just a little remote. We enjoy interesting meals
and we were not disappointed - the food was
incredible! We could have stayed for another week
just to work our way through all the menu items
that we didn't have time for. Also, we are nature
lovers and there were options for several different
tours - we opted for one to the Cockscomb Basin
Jaguar Preserve. Ellen made arrangements for a
guide (Zef) who really went out of his way to give
us a great jungle experience. Everyone on the staff
at Maya Beach Hotel was so warm and friendly and
made us feel like part of an extended family. We
hope to be able to return again soon! Jim & Lise -
