CedarburgTop option in Placencia for larger group
Left on 01/02/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We booked the property via vrbo.com, relying on the photos and info supplied by the owner. The Keeners were very helpful and easy to work with during the process.
Our group of 10 -- one small child, teenagers, college students and adults -- had a terrific time at the property. We stayed at Lazy Gecko, which is on the lagoon side, and walked across the road to the beach near the sister property, Tipsy Gecko. We also had use of the property's golf cart to get into town (a 30-min ride) and also to the local market, various resorts to eat, the large resort where we had access (a nice perk, beautiful pool), etc.
We made about half our meals in the kitchen, which was nicely furnished, and I would highly recommend bringing whatever staples you can bring - pasta, rice, cereal, etc. - if you are planning to cook. There is a grocery store a short ride away where you can source most things, but they only get certain things delivered on certain days. We could not get butter or milk for a few days. This is an issue in general, not with the rental at all, and something I would suggest preparing for. However, there are a number of places to eat nearby, so you definitely won't starve and will eat quite well. I highly recommend the Maya Beach Resort restaurant and Splash Diving for excursions.
With children, I would also recommend bringing a few games. The house has Scrabble and Sorry, and we bought a deck of cards in town. There were times when we were all sunburned and just wanted to sit inside.
We were surprised at the quality of the staff at the rental -- daily housekeeping with laundry service from Brenda and Javier the caretaker - which really made the week feel luxurious. They were also very helpful and friendly in general.
I highly recommend checking out Lazy Gecko (or Tipsy Gecko, across the street). -

We stayed in this amazing home for a week with a total of 12 family members from all over the country. The house was very roomy with plenty of space for everyone. The house backs to the lagoon with tons of birds and dolphins swimming by. A short walk across the street takes you to the ocean for a nice cool down on a hot day. It was a little bit of a drive to Placencia, but worth it. I would advise you to plan ahead for meals. If you want to eat out and avoid cooking, check to see what is really open close by. The belizian time is not understated!
And we didn't realize what housekeeping meant. We were spoiled. Didn't have to wash a dish the entire week. That is what I call vacation!
And the pool...oh the pool. This made this home exceed our expectations. A gorgeous ocean front pool with sand vollyball, kayaks, and a gorgeous refreshing pool surrounded by palms and with a swim up bar. We ended up ending most days here. The staff was great and we were usually the only ones there.
Definately recommend this place. The only thing I would mention that could use improvements is sound control. It is a large all tile open floorplan and sleeping in if there are little ones along may not happen! Overall, great place. -

Texas8 Days of Paradise!

From the moment I arrived at the island, I felt like I was in a dream where all the locals spoke English and accepted the american dollar. I kept pinching myself only to realize that I was not dreaming. Over the coarse of the next several days, we got to snorkel, have lunch on our own little island, kayak, zipline, hike to waterfalls, take the kids for ice cream, bowl with locals, exerience wonderful food at the restaurants (and I'm talking authentic meals not all the preservative stuff we get back home). The house was amazing and I enjoyed relaxing in the hammock at sunset with a local beer in my hand. The staff made the trip that much more enjoyable as they catered to all of our requests and made sure the place was spotless 24/7! Only a fool would not return to the place!

The Keener's have created an amazing location on the water in Belize. This home is very comfortable, roomy and gorgeous. The only downside to staying here is having to leave ...
