UKA view is not enough!
Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Set in a stunning location and with fantastic views, Le Moulin has the potential to offer a superb holiday. First impressions soon gave way to huge disappointment with the quality of the interior: inaequately covered electrical wires in the bathroom, dirty soft furnishings, faulty plumbing and most notably, the general lack of cleanliness. Bearing in mind we had to cut our holiday short - (the mosquito window nets were full of holes - so we sweltered and our bed was a metre from the continuously filling toilet - we were exhausted. We appreciate the building is old, and indeed that is its charm - so we didn't expect perfection, or air-con!, but the final straw was the electrical fan supplied being completely covered in what seemed like years of thick dust. Having initially emailed the owners (and having been given no contact number for their neighbour/cleaner who we had been told would visit the property during the week), we cut our losses and left three days early. Having telephoned the owners to explain why we had reached that decision, at additional cost to ourselves - we were even more disappointed to have to wait and repeatedly ask for the return of our deposit, which we have now received just under four weeks after leaving the property.

On page one of our information sheet are our mobile and home contact numbers and on the same page it clearly states if there are any problems or if the cleaning is not up to standard on your arrival call us.
On Monday we received the following email
Dear Den and Kim
Just a quick email to feedback on our stay at the moulin so far and initial impressions. We love Plan de la Tour and the moulin's location is stunning.
We do wonder what your expectations are as far as the standard of initial cleaning/maintenance of the property however. We can see you have invested in high quality equipment (for example in kitchen), but we're a little surprised that some lights don't work and soft furnishings and shower could do with a bit of tlc. We hope you will find this useful feedback because we get such a strong sense of your love for the moulin and its history.
Regards
XXX

Unfortunately there is little one can do about the cleaning two days after arrival.
No mention of any other problems – I think that says it all.
We were then astonished to get a call on Wednesday tearfully telling us they were cutting their holiday short because the place was so dreadful.
They even had the cheek to ask us to pay for their flights home!!!
While speaking to XX on the phone I asked him to list all the problems and he really struggled - light bulbs that did not work, a dirty floor (it is 200 years old and will always look distressed but that is it’s charm) and the toilet cistern that was constantly dripping (he had not mentioned that in his Monday email).
I asked him to turn on a switch by the toaster and he admitted he had not tried that before and all five spot lights came on. He told me that the other kitchen light did work when they arrived but now didn’t. Our info sheet states there is a box of light bulbs under the sink.
I said the toilet cistern was new this season and asked him why he had waited five days before contacting me but he could not give me a sensible answer.
Why did they wait five days then book their flights before even speaking to us? If it were me I would have called the owners immediately.
If there were problems we were given no indication of them therefore and had no chance to rectify them if these problems were found to be true.
We welcome any comments about the cleaning as this is our only way we can check if the job is being done properly.
We have many guests return year after year plus many honeymoon couples and everyone really loves the place. We are always fully booked from May to the end of September and have never had a complaint like this before.
We have thought long and hard about this and we can only assume the XXX’s were trying to con us into paying for their flights after an argument - hence the tears.
With regard to the tardy return of their deposit I am afraid that we were upset and affronted and believe they sabotaged the toilet system to reinforce their claim for compensation. XXX said that they were not complainers and had even been camping. I think comparing our beautiful listed 200 year old windmill and private swimming pool with a tent is an insult.
When Ash cleaned the Moulin after their departure he said that every electric plug had been pulled out of their sockets and the wires and plugs arranged at a perfect right angle to the wall !!
