The worst thing about staying at El Taj Oceanside, is that you'll have to leave it when your vacation is over. The condo/hotel is beautiful, both inside and out in a modern, chic way. The open air center hallway which divides the property in half and runs from the front of the hotel to the back and beach, is filled with beautiful plants, flowers and even tiny ponds with fish. At the back of El Taj is a very small but gorgeous two level pool (the top level is a jacuzzi and the bottom is the swimming area). After that, you're on the beach, about thirty seconds from your room! Pretty convenient, eh?
The rooms are actually suites, with a bedroom/s, large living room/kitchen/eating area and a bathroom/s. We had a one bedroom one bathroom unit. The rooms are decorated very stylishly in a contempory fashion and are quite spacious.
There is, of course, no such thing as a perfect place for everybody, as people have different tastes and needs. Some reviewers have complained about the beach, which, while it has soft white sand, is rather shallow, with a big dropoff. Also, there is usually about a half dozen fishing boats docked there, so it may not be totally ideal spot to wade into the ocean. However, you only have to go over about 50 yards in either direction to clear the boats and the beach extends for probably at least a mile, with no restrictions as to where you can go. We really did not mind the boats being there at all.
The Indigo Beach Club is basically attached to the hotel and they provide not only food and drinks, but padded chairs and even beds for you to relax on at the beach. They serve a delicious buffet breakfast daily, which includes you choice of egg dishes, fresh juice, coffee, pastries, fresh fruit and almost everything you could want. It was included in our package, but even at $12 per person, it is still a fair deal.
El Taj is a comfy, serene, peaceful place, rather than a raucous or rowdy one. Even the music they play is soft jazz or romantic pop, rather than loud techno, rap or rock that some other hotels have blasting from their speakers. There seemd to be very few if any single people staying there. mostly couples or families.
El Taj was pretty much perfect for us and our wants and needs. It is also very close to almost all the restaurants and shops that you might want to see. Most places were about a five minute walk from the hotel, with the farthest being about ten minutes. Iit also seemed very safe wherever we went. We would go back to El Taj in a minute and would highly recommend it to others. -

El Taj Ocean is just breaktaking. It's tropical, lush and the view of the ocean is amazing. Laura helped us book the large one bedroom and it was perfect for us. She was so helpful and answered every question. The Indigo Beach Club is right on the property and offers lots of amenities such as a great food and awesome drinks. The service is fantastic. Talk about being waited on hand and foot! This is the place -from getting our lounge chairs, umbrellas, towels, food & drinks to recommending a good place for dinner. Fifth avenue is the happening place especially at night. There were fun places to eat and drink as well as shop. Can't wait to go back. Best time ever!

Everything was perfect. The location, the staff, the food... My favorite thing was having cocktails on the beach under our own umbrella. The condo is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It was great to be able to make snacks in our own kitchen. And I loved the rock floor in the shower! I want to do that in my home shower.

El Taj Ocean was the ideal place for a beach getaway with my friends. The best feature of this condo is its breathtaking view of the ocean. The crystal clear Caribbean waters of Playa Del Carmen greeted us each morning as we drank our coffee on the patio. Each day we relaxed on the beach in luxurious lounge chairs, and even beds, while the staff attended all our needs (drinks, snacks, umbrellas, lunch, and even cleaned our sunglasses). Condo #341 has every upscale amenity and is located just steps from the aqua spa. This is a perfect spot to enjoy a late afternoon dip in the pool, snack or cocktail. At night, we were only 2 blocks from 5th avenue where we found a bevy of delicious restaurants (our favorite was Carboncitas) and retail shops. Overall, condo #341 at El Taj Ocean is an amazing destination for anyone looking to take a 5-star beach vacation!

We stayed in El Taj Ocean #341 and it was amazing. The picturesque ocean view from the patio was so relaxing. Each morning we sat outside and drank our coffee and each evening we had drinks and appetizers while watching the sun set. We spent the day lounging in comfortable beach chairs, while every request was handled graciously by the staff. Late afternoons we languished in the aqua spa steps from the patio relaxing after a day at the beach. The evenings were so much fun as we headed down to 5th avenue for delicious food, drinks and entertainment. We're already planning another "amazing beach vacation" at El Taj Ocean #341!

On a recent trip to Playa Del Carmen, I stayed in Unit 341 at El Taj Ocean. This unit is the largest one bedroom condo closest to the beach, and the only one to have views from all the rooms. There is a large private balcony off the master bedroom, as well as a terrace off the kitchen and living room. I loved sitting out on the terrace, and enjoyed the great breeze and sound of waves crashing ashore. Indigo Beach Club, located at El Taj Ocean, is beautiful and the locals are some of the most friendly people I have ever met. The breakfast at Indigo Beach Club is wonderful and the property is always clean. El Taj Ocean offers many different types of exercise options, such as yoga on the beach and water aerobics, or you can use The Gym located at Porto Playa. The owner of this unit has thought of everything, including personal touches that make you feel at home. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an excellent one bedroom property at El Taj Ocean.

This condo is beautiful and the view is breathtaking and one of the best in the building. The service and cleanliness is outstanding. The maids go above and beyond. The only drawback is it's right at the stairs where people come and go so if the curtain is open they see right in. While relaxing one evening, one man walked right up to the window and peered in until he realized we were inside!

I just got back from this property. We were there 7 nights. We stayed in a 3 bedroom, Ocean View unit, # 339. The view was fantastic. I would highly recomend this property. The unit was beautiful. The property is very well maintained. I have no complaints. I manage a vacation property rental business in Rancho Mirage, Ca and I am a very picky traveler. I typically stay in "all inclusive" hotels and my moto is "if my hotel isn't as nice as my home I would rather stay home" El Taj exceeded our my every expectation. We are working on booking a return trip already.

We spent 8 days at El Taj to celebrate a big b-day for my wife and could not have been more pleased with our choice. The complex is in a perfect location in paradise and the condo itself was amazing with post card views. We have stayed at some of the nicer ai's, boutique hotels and condos in Playa and El Taj topped them all. We will be back for sure!

Great condo, very chic with all the amenties of home. One of the nicest places I've stayed, far better than any hotel room for the money. Great location and so central to the Mexician town of Playa del Carmen. Would go back in a heartbeat but next time I might buy the place. El Taj is perfect for those wanting luxury but not the mega resort feel with thousands of people. Boutique feel and very romantic but yet a great pool for kids and with two or three bedrooms available lots of room for the family.

Saying I'm a picky traveler is saying it lightly and I'm a very busy professional so for me to stop and take the time to review a property/vacation is unheard of. However, I was so impressed by El Taj and Playa Del Carmen I had too. El Taj was beautiful, brand new and very luxurious. We had everything we could want or need. There were flat screens and ceiling fans in every room, Ipod hook up and nice bedding. The kitchen was fully equipped and the bottled water that was provided was very convenient.
The location was ideal!! Right on the beach and steps from 5th avenue. I would absolutely go back and recommend El Taj to anyone:)!

The Taj is a beautiful beachfront building with luxurious and confortable apartments. My family and I rented a three bedroom condo with yacussi, a beautiful terrace with 180 degree view of the ocean, near all the main attractions in Playa.We walked to the supermarket, Cozumel ferry and to all the restaurants, the chapel and shops. We only stayed four days and wished we would have spent at least a week. Is the perfect place for families as well as couples.All the six of us would like to go back in the near future.

We recently stayed in El Taj Ocean, a new property that opened this year. It is definitely a 5-star property: the beach club has great service, the food was wonderful, and the unit we stayed in, 341, was stunning. It's large and has a private balcony off the master bedroom the looks out at the beach and water. The views from all the rooms were unbelievable beach scenes. I'm saving my pennies to go back. The owner, Laura, was honest and gave us good advice and delivered what she advertised.

We immediately felt at home in your beautifully furnished condo and loved how it was so close to the pool and beach. During our stay we compared El Taj with other properties along the beach and decided it was second to none. The tropical ambiance, spectacular beachfront, unusual swimming pool, free use of beach club facilities, daily breakfast bar, etc. guaranteed that, although it was our first visit to Playa del Carmen, it certainly won't be our last. We just returned from a week at the El Taj in Playa Del Carmen. We had a great time! The condo was perfect for our family-my husband, myself, and our two college daughters. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was clean and nice with all of the necessary items for quick snacks. We did not actually cook any meals but kept snacks and breakfast items on hand. The only problem we had was that the microwave went on the fritz and we could not have our popcorn at night. I am sure that has been fixed by now. The balcony was perfect for morning tea and had a beautiful view of the pool and landscaped area around the pool. It was just a short walk to the beach where we had very comfortable lounge chairs waiting on us. The beach itself is probably not the best one for swimming as there are a lot of boats parked there, but just a short walk up the beach is a great spot for swimming. We have stayed in many places over the years on many different islands in the Caribbean and I would consider this trip one of our best.

We stayed at El Taj Ocean the first week it opened in March. There were a couple of things they were finishing up but the property is spectacular!. We stayed in 341, which is the largest 1 BR condo in the property and the only one to have a huge,private blcony off the master bedroom. It was wonderful and the property is so beautifuy and in a perfect location. The pool and aquz spa are one of a kind.
The second best part was the Indigo Beach Club that's on the property. The service and food made me feel like I was in a 4 Season's or Ritz Carlton, but a lot less expensive. They have the best beach chairs of anyplace on the beach.
We are now VIP guests and get a 10% discount off future stays, which works for me. The owner is easy to work with and offered several other units for us to pick from, but they weren't as big as hers and/or didn't have a balcony off the master bedroom.
