In the last couple of years Playa del Carmen has evolved from an off beat vacation spot, to being one of the most sought after Caribbean vacation destinations. There is an incredible amount of possibilities to spend time with family and friends such as adventure parks, natural wonders, Mayan ruins, shops, clubs, cafes/ restaurants, and the endless white beaches of course. Penthouse Gema is located in downtown Playa del Carmen right off of 5th Avenue and only one block from Mamita's Beach. 5th Avenue is a one of a kind pedestrian promenade that offers boutique shopping, and fine dining, as well as traditional Mexican culture. It is the single most walked Avenue in Mexico. Playa has a small town feel, but it boasts all the amenities that a traveler could want. This combination is what makes Playa so unique.
Just on the outskirts of town you can visit the water park Xel Ha, or the theme park Xcaret. There is an abundance of Eco Touristic activities that you can experience including a jungle Zip Line or Kayaking in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. The area is perforated with natural Cenotes which offer a very unique diving experience. There is exceptional snorkeling & the diving just off of Cozumel, on the second largest barrier reef in the world. Not to mention the outstanding Sport Fishing. The wonders of the Mayan Culture are all around in the Ruins.

Having been to Mexico/Cancun/Playa a handful of times in all-inclusives and condos we were a little apprehensive booking via photos. I have to tell you the reviews I read about Marissa and the condo were spot on! I exchanged several emails prior to our trip with questions in great detail. Marissa was responded in a timely fashion and offered reassuring support at all points. She was most helpful arranging transportation and was honest on all counts. Our condo was very nice. The third bedroom is not attached to the condo. It's on another level with not bathroom. More like a room for teenagers. It's secure in that the condo is gated so not too much worry there. The condo itself is modern. Clean. Only issue we had was there was construction with loud machinery while we were there. We met an a nice couple who owned one of the condos at the pool who were very nice. Said they loved their condo making us feel we made a good choice. You are close to Mamamitas beach. About two blocks. Very handy. Mamamitas rented chairs and umbrellas for the day. Bout $3/each. They expect you to purchase drinks though. No water allowed on their property; however you can lay on the public beach right next to their area for free. Our condo had washer/dryer which allowed us to pack light. Again what made our trip wonderful was Marissa. We felt very comfortable knowing we had a contact who took very good care of us. We'd stay there again. Oh-remember TV is Spanish with maybe one or two English channels. Took our ipads and watched movies. Internet was pretty good. Didn't use the rooftop much. Pretty hot. But was nice for view.

My wife and our 4 kids ages 17, 16, 12 and 9 stayed at Penthouse Gema in November of 2012. First, Marissa was very easy to get a hold of. She made us feel very welcome. We arrived a bit early and was able to get in to the property no problem. Property was extremely clean, and everything was in good working order. The property location is perfect. 1 block from the beach and 1 block from 5th ave. We rented a car, so having parking was great too. Used the BBQ grill to cook fresh fish and shrimp I bought at Wal-Mart ;). We also utilized the rooftop terrace a bit as well.

just as described the location is one block off 5th next door to a local sports bar that is a ton of fun... one block to the beach and the kool beach club...has a pool but didn't need it as the beach is one block away

Accomadations were awesome. We were four friends going down for some R/R. The condo was very clean and spacious with more than enough room. Totally loved the proximity to the beach.

It was my 5th time in Playa and this one was the best! Everything was just perfect. Location near beach, and all the action of the nicest city in Mexico. Magical! Marissa, my property manager, is just too nice and she was there everytime I needed her. The place is secure and very quiet. I had friends coming to join me during my trip and they really were amazed . I was there one month and I was just like home. I will go back for sure with Marissa organizing my stay without hesitation!

three full bedrooms, the roof top with bbq, just a
block from the beach and half a block from 5th was
just amazing. We will definitely be back as soon as
we can, but next time we'll stay longer! There is so
much to see and do that one week is not enough. -

We had a wonderful experience. Marissa was great to work with; very responsive to questions, but not overly intrusive. She set up transportation to/from the airport along with carseats for the kids.
The property location is superb due to its proximity to Mamitas Beach and the shopping, restaurants, and nightlife of 5th Ave and downtown. The property was very clean and well equipped. We had only a couple minor issues. The chairs at the dining room table were unstable for young children. Also, the dryer wasn't working properly but this, again, was minor since we could air dry clothes. Finally, it would be nice for the penthouse balcony to have an outdoor table and umbrella to increase our use during the day. The view from the balcony was great. Will definitely consider returning in the future. -

Condo location was excellent, with a decent view. Loved all the balconies (3) and rooftop patio. Felt very safe and comfortable leaving valuables in condo. Having internet access was alway great.
During our stay the washer and dryer were broken, however Marissa, our Property Manager, was very quick to bring us extra towels for our stay. Housekeeping was also excellent and came twice during our ten days there.
Would recommend for a group of friends or larger family. Definitely want to go back!
