El Taj and Playa are simply awesome. My girl and I have been down to riv maya a few times in the past staying at some top notch ai's (Royal Hideaways, Iberostar Grand) and on visits to check out Playa for the day noticed El Taj and it's prime location on the beach and also its proximity to the city center. So we decided to give it a shot and we are so glad we did as the end result was a fantastic vacation away from the grind. We stayed in unit #327-a large 1 bedroom located towards the front which was a very nice unit with ocean views. We did do some shopping at Mega to stock up on vaca essentials-booze, beer, wine and snacks along with some fresh fruits-and found it to be a good move.If I may-a few suggestions on eats we enjoyed:Breakfast- El Nativo, La Cueva Del Chango(monkey's cave), Imprevist-All were fantastic, filling and priced right.Lunch-La Sirena, Indigo and multiple little outdoor cafes all within walking distance-look for the spots where the locals are eating and you wont go wrong.Dinner-Mosquito Blue, Da GiGi, Blue Lobster, Imprevist, La Casa Del agua, Yaxche
note: you will receive a VIP card along with a list of participating restaurants and found all the particpants we were able to visit were top notch.Do take the trip to al Cielo-private beach about 25 mins south of Playa-it was an awesome day on the beautiful beach with nice body surfing waves. Also had a very good restaurant on site-try their whole salted fish-takes 35 mins to prepare but was well worth the wait.I saved the best for the end-the staff!!! Whenever we travel we always make it a point to get to know the staff as they are your true connection to the area you are visiting. We have found that if you treat them with respect, kindness and as you would want to be treated-they "enjoy" making suggestions when asked of things to do, where to go for a good local meal, etc..El Taj staff treated us as family/friends and steered us in all the right directions. -

We really enjoyed our vacation at El Taj! We stayed in unit #327 which has a perfect resort location only steps to the jacuzzi, pool and beachclub. This 1 bedroom unit is big with a great view to the ocean and beach. The condo has everthing you need, we loved the beautiful modern style it has with a well equipped kitchen, water cooler, washer/dryer a comfy king size bed with a flat panel TV and another TV in the mainroom. Our unit was really quiet, we had no problems with excess noise. The condo owners were very helpful with tips about Playa and the resort. The overall condition of unit #327 and the resort is perfect. The daily maid service did a great job, the resort is super clean and the setting is so romantic and enjoyable. We also liked having the outdoor space with table and chairs on the patio. From the moment we arrived the staff went out of their way to be welcoming and very service attentive. The location of El Taj in Playa Del Carmen is fantastic, you can walk anywhere and the beach is beautiful and clean. It is just a short walk down the street and your in the center of the action on 5th ave. You will not be disappointed with this unit and my husband and I are very picky about where we stay. We loved our stay at El Taj!

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Playa del Carmen and we stayed in Unit 327, a large 1 bedroom unit, to celebrate our anniversary. To say that we enjoyed our stay would be an understatement. This is a beautiful property that is located in the most central location one could hope for if they wanted to be in the middle of all that Playa has to offer. We walked everywhere and loved it! The unit is a beautifully decorated 1-bedroom on the bottom floor with a great ocean view from the patio and the living room/kitchen. It is literally two steps from the entrance to the jacuzzi and a few more steps down a short staircase to the pool. You can see the water from the open patio out front as well. The resort staff was wonderful. The bellmen we dealt with and the people at the front office and concierge all spoke great english which helped us tremendously since our spanish was quite limited. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and always diligently working to keep the entire resort as clean and well-maintained as could be. Additionally, the owner was great to deal with. If we were staying at El Taj again, I'd hope to deal with the owner again because he was so thorough and easy to contact. We had a small issue with a miscommunication upon arrival and with a quick email to the owner he had it straightened out in a matter of minutes. He also was really helpful in emails prior to our trip providing us with some local tips and tricks for getting to and from the airport and eating as well! It was a real pleasure. We hope to stay there again! If you're looking for an easy going stay at a place that isn't too big like all the cookie cutter resorts, give this Unit, 327, a look. You'll be hard pressed to find a better all-around experience. Thanks again!

I stayed in #327 a 1BR condo at El Taj Oceanfront, for a week with a friend and it was a fantastic condo. Everyone at the El Taj were extremely helpful and courteous. The condo itself is a large 1BR unit with a great view to the beach/ocean and is located in a perfect and very peaceful area of the resort. It is also conveniently located near the spa where you can sit in and overlook the beach and the ocean while also just steps from the pool and beach. The beach is very large with excellent sand and water that is crystal clear for snorkeling. The location of El Taj is very convenient and we were able to walk to restaurants and shops in a matter of minutes. There is a local dive shop that we used to coordinate several dives in both Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. The Playa dives were very convenient and leave right in front of the condo. I will definitely be going back.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this beautiful property in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. The listing and the photos were very accurate. The property and condo were immaculate. The staff was extremely helpful and very friendly.
We did not use the exercise facility but for those of you who do not want to miss out on your workout while on vacation then this property is for you. The facility is amazing and they also hold classes on the white sandy beach.
This property is only a few blocks from 5th avenue. We walked everywhere that we needed to go. All the shops and restaurants were right there but you still had the quiet of the condo and beach for relaxing and taking romantic strolls.
The swimming pool is beautiful and heated. The beach area provides towels, sunscreen, oils and lotions, they will even steam clean your sunglasses as part of the service.
The condo is luxury living at a reasonable price. High end appliances and granite countertops make the kitchen eye appealing and functional. The condo had a comfortable feel so that during your stay you forget that it belongs to someone else. The owners were very nice and answered all the questions that we had.
We highly recommend this property as a Caribbean getaway.

My wife and I stayed in this unit in Oct, 2010. I have to honestly say that the unit was much better than described ! The owners did not cut any corners when furnishing this unit. The appliances are all top of the line stainless steel. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was cleaned and maintained very nicely every day. The view from the unit was immaculate. You are literally 3 steps away from the pool/jacuzzi and a 30 second walk to the beach bar ! The concierge was extremely helpful w/ dinner recommendations and activities. We never felt pressured into doing anything we didn't want to do. The beach in front of the resort was immaculately kept and free of any debris. No need to take a taxi anywhere, since, EL TaJ is in the middle of all Pdc's action ! In addition, even though the EL TaJ is centrally located we found it extremely safe and quiet at night. We can't wait to go back and stay here again ! It was worth every penny :)

Traveled with my spouse and 10 year old over spring break and stayed at the El
Taj Oceanfront. The hotel/condos are recently completed and in immaculate shape
The staff was very friendly and helpful and maids did a great job keeping the
unit clean. We stated in a one bedroom and had a mattress brought in for our
daughter to stay in the main area (worked out fine). The unit (#327) is
beautifully decorated and is close to the pool and hot tub with a great view to
the ocean. The location is right on the beach and one or two blocks to the
shopping/restaurants/nightlife, etc... It was nice having a kitchen in the unit
and being off the beaten path of the mega hotels. Would definitely stay there
again. -

Stayed here for a long weekend and had a fantastic time.
The condo itself had a great layout. It was very comfortable and posh, and was the best looking place from the beach, too. The in-room kitchen was a really nice amenity and we took full advantage of it. Everything is new, sleek and modern. A beautiful private beach lounge area with umbrellas is right outside your door. The property boasts a bar and a restaurant that is actually pretty good (better than most of the food you'll get on 5th ave).
The location is very close to "downtown" Playa, but situated off the beaten path making it quiet and exclusive. Everything you need is within a short walking distance, even a car rental spot that we used to get to akumal to snorkel. We even used the complimentary gym and found it to be well equipped and very well maintained.
Our favorite margarita spot was found just around the corner at Diabolito - ask for Maestro tequila or Iban, who'll make a killer one for you. El Fogon is also a must eat spot several blocks away across from the Mega supermarket. Other really good family food shops ($1 quesadillas!) can be found on 10th, also. Explore.
Overall, everything was really nice! The staff and management are friendly and super attentive. Everything is well taken care and I would love to stay again on my next trip to Playa del Carmen. Check it out! -

My only regret is that we couldn’t have stayed longer, which we will on the next trip.
I would love to get this 1 BR unit again too, because of its ideal location within the complex. The whole development is brand new, located right on the beach. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous; the restaurant is surprisingly good too.
The location of El Taj is great: restaurants and retail shops all within an easy walk.
All in all, a great property in a wonderful beachside resort.

The room was very well done, clean. Proximity to the restaurants was perfect. Didnt even need a cab most of the time. Beach & weather were wonderful. We will definately return for another visit and further explore the areas in and around Playa Del Carmen- Un vacacion perfecto!
