Description from the owner
Only a short block from the beach. The Martinique suite is classic favorite of our patrons. It's Caribbean style amplified with over 20 sq.meters of adjustable white shutters. Our guests comment how much they appreciate the design, having large enough openings to really enjoy the sea breeze. But the shutters are just one of the many aspects of the Caribbean theme in which we implemented into our design. The Plantation house itself is a mastery of the classic Caribbean style, your eyes are lured to every detail from the detailed wood work to the magical tropical court yard. Located superbly with in a residential nook the the heart of the touri...Read more

SedonaWe loved the Martinique Suite!
Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We stayed for 3 weeks at this property and we felt like we were at home. We've been coming to Playa for almost 8 yrs and this to date has been our most enjoyed vacation, mostly due to the comfort of the property. The apartment had everything we needed. Altho not a new facility, it was clean, cheerful, warm and comfortable. A very Caribbean, down to earth style which we loved. I love to cook and the counter area altho not spacious, was ample to make us comfortable during our stay. If you love to cook, you might want to bring your own knives-theirs were not so great ;( We were on a working holiday, so internet was important to us. The connection was strong without any issues. The bed was incredibly comfortable and if you've stayed in MX at all, you'd know that mattresses can be rock hard...not the case here! We loved the outdoor, yet covered courtyard patio where we had our morning coffee and evening wine. It makes you feel as if you have an extra room! The views are of the inner garden courtyard on one side and the ocean on the other! A washer / dryer is on property and very convenient. Water is provided and housekeeping comes a few times a week to straighten up...the location is one block from the beach and one block off of Fifth ave (Quinta)...doesn't get more convenient than that. Mega (Mexico's version of a Walmart) is a about an 8-10 block walk for all your food & supplies. Parking was pretty easy and safe, no issues.
The owners, Joseph & Francoise were incredibly friendly and helpful. We enjoyed speaking with them...
Our only con, which has nothing to do with the property it self, is the music from the neighborhood bars / clubs. It's a pounding beat until 5am every night!!! My husband wears earplugs and had no issues. I on the other hand needed a siesta- on the beach ;) in the afternoon to make up for the sleep lost. We could have turned the air conditioner on to muffle the sound, but preferred not to...
All in all, a very enjoyable, comfortable stay! -

Austin, Texasperfect for the low season -- so close to so many things
Left on 07/16/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star review is out of the hands of the excellent owners/hosts, and that is the all-night saturday night music that inevitably comes from being so close to everything. We stayed 5 days and only Saturday was a bit loud. My wife sleeps with earplugs anyway, so she didnt even notice, but our toddler slept out on the futon where, without the welcome white noise of the aC, it was less than ideal. We were there in July (so low season) so I can't comment on high season sounds.
That said, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat! The location is great -- like 2 minutes from 5th or the beach. I would suggest walking the extra block south to enter the beach by the Blue Parrot. It is a nicer stretch without the moored boats, and it is like an extra two minutes, literally.
The first day we hiked it to the Mega Mart (probably 10 blocks) and stocked up for breakfasts and snacks. But there is sooo much food so close (and an Oxxo too for quick convenience needs like laundry detergent, etc), that you might just skip the Mega and eat every meal out, if that's your thing and not feel the need to repeat places.
Joe and Francoise were super friendly and helpful and you can tell they totally love running this place. The courtyard pool was just the right size and depth for cooling off, for when the 2 blocks to the beach seem too far ; )
On the downside, even the first floor's single apartment would not be viable for the disabled. And there wasnt a view really from our suite, but for the price and location, these were totally worth the tradeoff. -

My husband and I stayed in the Martinique Suite at the Plantation house for 8 nights and easily could have stayed a lifetime! We chose the Martinique suite and Plantation house for a variety of reasons, but first and foremost, we were drawn by the lovely interior, colorful decor, beautiful warmth and authentic details captured in the photos. It's even more amazing in person. (The wifi is a huge plus, I might add - super fast).
Joe was very helpful and quick in responding to requests and inquiries prior to our arrival. The entire booking process was seamless from start to finish, he even arranged for private transfer from CUN.
The location is Primo. One block from the beach and another block from 5th avenue. Close enough to everything, but tucked away in your own quaint, quiet, tropical, paradise oasis. All units are accessed via a locked entry which leads you into a lovely courtyard/ pool area - we felt very safe (though Playa as a whole is safe). We absolutely loved Playa del Carmen and 90% of our experience was because of the comfort and convenience of the Plantation House. There are many restaurants, small groceries, bars, shops - you name it - all within a few steps.
I have been meaning to write this review for a while and just recently looked through pictures of our trip - which served as a pleasant reminder of how much we adored the Plantation House. It's so fabulous - so much so, that I kind of don't want to share our little secret ;).
