Cambridge, Ontario, CanadaA Unique Jungle Experience
Left on 02/03/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed here the week of Jan 5th 2013, and even though we knew it would be a "Jungle Experience" from all the prior reviews we were not quite prepared for a few experiences. First of all we would like to say the Staff was over the top, very attentive to all our needs. Carl - the Manager- was Outstanding!!!...going out of his way to book all our excursions and even found me a camera charger which I had forgotten @ home! The grounds @ Taninah are stunning and the amenities are plenty. The cenote is truly amazing! You can have a Fantastic time here!!!...however...I cant believe previous reviews had not mention a few thing...
1. Spiders!!...while going to bed the first night we encountered a Monster of a Spider!!...in our room...big, black...nasty...the size of our hand!!...we killed him and did not sleep well that night...we found spiders in all of the rooms each night!!...we had to do a Spider Check in each cabin before bed and each time we found some. You have to be prepared as these spiders are not like Canadian Spiders!!...they are twice the size!!!...huge...I know this is a jungle experience, I just wasn't ready for so many spiders in my room!!
2. The lighting...The outside lightening was very poor...walking back and forth in the dark to our cabins was a challenge. The paths were not always lighted...very dark..there was solor lights along the path but most of them were not always working!!...some were broken.
3. Toilets...these are "Glorified Outhouses"...No flushing Toilets!...while the bathrooms are very clean...the toilet seat is over a hole...(tiny black insects flying around hole)...there is no smell/odor coming from the hole..but it is hole!!
We did have a great time but be prepared for these things as they were never mentioned in previous reviews...
Cheers

BrooklynAn adventure to Remember!
Left on 06/04/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Taninah is a unique experience!
It is nestled far enough into the jungle to feel truly "out there" and yet features a bevy of modern amenities which makes it feel much like a modern resort, without any of the polytstone decor so common to the properties along the Riviera Maya. The lodgings are varied and comfortable and the grounds are beautiful.
Though the grounds are impressive, the amenities seemingly endless, and the private grotto awe inspiring, it is the staff that puts the experience over the top. The tireless, all Mayan staff work hard to ensure each meal is prepared when you want it, how you want it, and to a consistently delicious standard. The friendly staff walks the fine line of being readily available and yet never in the way - it's an impressive balancing act indeed.
It is important for people to remember that Taninah is an authentic experience and as it's in the jungle, you are going to hear the sounds of (sometimes loud) frogs at night, and you may (depending on the weather) deal with mosquitoes. There are bugs, and though we didn't see any, there may be snakes. Taninah is safe for sure, but if you're looking for the Disney version of Mexico, this is not it, and thank goodness for that. If you're looking for a one of a kind vacation experience, then this is the place for you. The owners and creators of Taninah have given life to something truly special in the jungle of Mexico's Riviera Maya! We look forward to coming back at some point in the future. -

Taninah is magical.
The amenities are amazing, the property is unbelievable, and the mission to bring an alternative mayan experience is what really shines through.
I booked Taninah for a group of 11 entreprenuers, authors, and change makers and the feedback has been nothing less than amazing.
Marino and his team make your stay seamless from arrival to departure.
We will definitely be visiting Taninah again. -

New York, New York, United StatesAbsolutely Magical
Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Taninah is not a vacation resort - it is a magical place that has the ability to completely move and transform you. Situated in the middle of a jungle near Playa del Carmen in Mexico, Taninah and it's staff are an incredible place to re-connect with what really matters, free from the hustle and bustle of most other tourist hotels.
I went with a group of friends, and we left as a family. We slept in palapas at night under the stars, then woke up to the sound of birds chirping and ducks splashing in the pond. We ate three meals a day together cooked by an incredible staff, and laughed, played and had great conversations like we were kids again.
I found my happy place in physical form (the resort had ziplines, a mini golf course, a game room, a treehouse, hammocks, and a waterslide in a cave) and in my spirit — I’ve never felt such a pure sense of joy, bliss and love for such a sustained amount of time. Taninah is a must-visit, and the staff are incredible. -

Somerville, New JerseyTaninah Is Simply Magical!
Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012
I travel a great deal and I've stayed in some nice places all over the world, but nothing will ever compare to my week in Taninah. From the zipline, to the trampoline, to the pool in the underground cave, to the game room, to the hammocks, it's like summer camp for adults. I've never had so much fun in my life.
The service is phenomenal. The staff is attentive and always smiling. Three delicious meals are served each day on an outdoor dining table where we had great conversation in the open air. Fresh guacamole and quesadillas were served in between lunch and dinner. And if we ever ran out of anything (liquor, water, sunscreen), they would have it for us the next day and charge us the local cost plus a very small percentage.
For the amount of value that you get staying here, I don't know why you would ever stay anywhere else. I highly recommend the property for family reunions, retreats, or any group of friends from 10-30 people.
Thank you so much to the staff of Taninah for the most magical week ever. I've never felt so free and alive before, especially as an adult. -

It's hard to summarize how incredible my experience was at Taninah, but I echo the sentiments of other travelers who have posted here. The place was absolutely magical, and I'm looking forward to my next visit already.
Marino is truly a class act, and the sustainable nature of the property is a win for everyone. Do yourself a favor and experience Taninah for yourself.
(Or don't, so I have more booking options!) -

60763Magic in the Riviera Mayan
Left on 02/03/2012 for a stay in January 2012
I walked away from Taninah transformed...transformed by the beauty of the Mayan Jungle...transformed by the Mayan culture...transformed by the environment that brings people together like no other location could possibly achieve. Our group of 11 people knew each other loosely or not at all, but we walked away feeling like a tight family. The property felt magical; there were so many ways in which we could play, feel like kids again, and wrap ourselves in laughter and joy. And there were so many ways to relax, unwind, and slip into deep conversations, creating bonds between everyone. The Mayan staff were incredible - patient, happy, attentive - we adored them.
This property offers the best of camping without the inconveniences. You feel like you spent the entire week outdoors, but with the full comforts of service, meals, and beds.
I will be back to Taninah again and again. Nothing else compares. -

Marblehead, MassachusettsMultigenerational family returns for fourth year
Left on 03/20/2011 for a stay in February 2011
We just returned from our fourth multi-generational family vacation at Taninah so tanned and relaxed we can hardly write the review! Imagine waking up in a private jungle villa to the sound of wild parrots, taking a morning swim in the fresh water cenote (cave with stalagmites and stalactites), and then walking to the outdoor kitchen for fresh squeezed orange juice, Mexican coffee and a full breakfast. Between the delicious Mexican/Mayan meals, you can swim in the pool, soak in the hot tub, walk on the jungle path or play miniature golf. There is also a game room, library, gym, basketball court, zip line, and in ground trampoline, and it is all for just your family.
My teenagers loved the water slide, ping pong and pool tables, the trips to adventure parks and beaches, and the in-home theatre. My sister’s younger kids couldn’t get enough of the jungle gyms, board games, air hockey, and playing soccer with the staff. Meanwhile, my parents loved lying in the hammocks, reading by the pool and taking long walks. For me, the magic was having all the meals, chores and planning taken care of, so that every day stretched in front of me with the question “What do I feel like doing today?”.
If you are considering a vacation at Taninah – just do it. It is a one of a kind opportunity for privacy, adventure and fun. At night, after the staff has turned down your beds and the kids are asleep, walk outside, look up into millions of stars and hear the night sounds of the jungle. I guarantee you will know you made the right choice. -

Alamo, CATaninah - a unique, special and unforgetable vacation destinatio
Left on 08/31/2009 for a stay in January 2009
Nineteen family members spent a wonderful week at Taninah in January.
The Tomacelli's thought of everything to make our vacation carefree. The
staff of 8 took care of our every need before we even knew we had needs.
Karl was always available to help with our excursions away from Taninah.
The meals were delicious and we went with the standard weeks menu. The
jungle setting was lush and beautiful. Our accommodations were
comfortable and each one unique. My husband and I were lucky enough to
stay in the Casa, a spacious and lovingly decorated home.
There was something for everyone to do. There was the game room with
pool, air hockey, a game table, ping pong and the fitness room. The
miniature golf course was a favorite with all of us. But best of all was the
zip line - hours of fun for the kids and a few of us adults as well. Don't
forget the cenote, your own underground river/cave complete with water
slide. Can't forget the swimming pool, too.
We could all do our own thing during the day if we wished and join together
again at the big outdoor "living room" and at the huge table for dinner. The
staff serves meals on your schedule. They even made delicious ceviche for
us from the freshly caught fish a few of the guys brought back from their
deep sea fishing excursion. Their salsa and guacamole were wonderful as
well. The staff will shop for you for any extras you may need but if you have
a car and can do your own it is less expensive.
I would recommend going to Xcaret and Tulum, both close by. But if you
never left the "compound" it would still be an exceptional trip.
Treat your family or other group to a wonderful vacation at Taninah.

Left on 07/23/2009 for a stay in January 2009
We found a dream come true for a group of 18 people in my family ranging in
ages from 77-5 years old! Everyone had a great time and we never heard once
from the kids that they were bored! So much for everyone to do of all ages
right on the Taninah grounds. The service from the Mayan staff was amazing
and the food was incredible. The homes were perfect for all the different
needs of my family members and the beds are very comfortable! I would
recommend Taninah to anyone who has a family of all ages and wants to have
a relaxing week vacation! -

St. Paul, MNAmazing Family Celebration!!
Left on 07/22/2009 for a stay in January 2009
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in Taninah. I will admit to wondering before we left if this would meet all our expectations. After all, we have 10 grandchildren, age 1 to 26!
Would the photos match the "real" place? Yes, yes, and yes!!! The place is gorgeous, the kids found more than enough to do. One 6 year old granddaughter proclaimed that "this was a dream come true". It was. The food was delicious and the men who served us were family. Every request was answered promptly. One of the highlights were the nightly game of soccer with the staff. They are good!! Another week there, however, and they would have been toast. Well, maybe. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a beautiful life. Thank You Taninah and staff. Thank you family!!
