“Great value and service for your money”

Left on 02/02/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We are an older couple who likes to travel on our own schedule and budget and within the last few years we visited more than few tropical islands. We knew that Venezuela is a third world country but found Margarita very welcoming and the staff at Posada Casa Trudel very kind and professional. The owners Dan and Kira were a great source of knowledge and information and also helped us immensely when struggling with our poor Spanish. The posada was spotlessly cleaned every day including our room. The breakfast served every morning, mainly from local sources, was always fresh and very tasty. All we found was just comfy and absolutely met our expectations. We both enjoy walking and taking short hikes so five to ten minute walk to Playa el agua was just refreshing for us. Whether we walked around, staying on a beach or rented a car to drive around both islands we never came across any uncomfortable situations and always felt safe. We made a few friendships with local Venezuelan people and I can say you must search a lot to find such hospitable and open hearted people on the planet Earth. We highly recommend this little cozy and quaint oasis to anyone who is not into all inclusive resort and is looking for quiet and safe place to stay. Way to go Dan, Kira and Gini! We are already planning our next vacation and thinking about coming back with our two adult kids and their boy and girlfriend. See attached photos they say it all.

Realxing stay on a beautiful island

Left on 12/03/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at Margarita Tropical Villa. We had a pool side room which was large and cleaned thoroughly every day. There was aircon in the room and a TV with a wide selection of English speaking channels as well as local ones. The pool was cleaned daily and with chairs and loungers around it and a mixture of sun and shade it was a perfect spot to relax. Dan and Kira were perfect hosts always on hand with advice and tips on the island. The Villa is really secure and we felt perfectly at ease leaving belongings in the room. We have to also mention how delicious breakfast was, each day was something different and lots of food to suit all tastes as well as fresh coffee and orange juice.

The villa is only a 5 min walk to Play el agua where there is a wide selection of bars and restaurants with delicious fresh seafood. You can get 2 loungers all day for about $5 and there is also a market selling towels, sun tan lotion and souvenirs. We would recommend visiting some of the other beautiful beaches on the Island as well, we went to Manzanillo and Playa Caribe and they were both lovely. La Restinga national park is also well worth a visit, for a nominal price you can take a boat trip and see lots of wildlife and take in the scenery.

We had a wonderful time on Margarita Island, before we went we read some things about safety on the island which worried us but after a day on the island we were completely at ease. All the locals we met were all really kind and friendly and we really enjoyed staying at Margarita Tropical villa which meant we had the independence to go out and see the island rather than being in an all inclusive hotel. Would really recommend the place to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing holiday.

Left on 08/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Excellent place to stay! If I ever return to Isla Margarita, I will go straight back to this great posada! Great facilities, helpful & welcoming owners and great location.

      Facilities:
We stayed in one of the poolside rooms, which was a nice treat after a hard 4 weeks in tents / not-so-nice hotels.

The pool area was great for relaxing, enjoying the sun, taking a dip to cool off, and reading a book (or borrowing a board game to play at the tables next to our room). The rooms were very clean, well-equipped with aC, mini fridge, Direct TV, etc. I had the best night's sleep of all 5 weeks of my trip here. It was great to have access to some cooking facilities and a place to store cold bottles of soda & water.

      Location:
About a leisurely 10 minute walk to the beautiful palm tree-lined beach. There is no sidewalk and one does have to be mindful of traffic, but that is a reflection of the lack of infrastructure in the area, not the posada. There is a little shop around the corner to get sodas, fresh fruit, etc. so you can cook at the posada, but there are also several restaurants at the beach.

      Safety:
Since we are talking about Venezuela, I should mention that this was definitely one place I felt safe & relaxed both inside the property & out. There is a gate & electric fence around the property--as there are in many other locations around the country--and it was nice to finally not worry about my belongings. I felt safe walking to & from the restaurants, shops & beach in this area.

Breakfast included: most hotels / posadas in Venezuela do not include breakfast in their prices. This is the only place in the whole country that did & it was a very nice addition. There was always hot tea & coffee, a fresh, local fruit, some cereal to choose from & a dish that changed daily (sandwich, pancakes, arepa, etc.) Definitely a nice touch.

Owners: Dan & Kira were very friendly and helpful in terms of suggesting places to eat, directing us to the closest supermarket, arranging taxis, etc. They definitely made us feel welcome and at home & I definitely recommend Margarita Tropical Villa to anyone going to this area of the island.

Overall: excellent location, safe, clean, relaxing, great value, friendly owners & staff. Definitely recommend!

Left on 05/07/2012 for a stay in April 2012

My wife and I stayed at Margarita Tropical Villa 3 weeks ago, and we would go back tomorrow if we could.
We went to Margarita Island because we wanted to go somewhere no one we knew had been before. Having stayed at a caribbean all-inclusive the year before, we also wanted stay where we could be independent and plan our own vacation without feeling like we're staying at Disneyland. We couldn't have asked for more from Margarita Tropical Villa.
Our room was poolside with a comfortable kingsize bed, powerful air conditioning, and one of the better caribbean showers we have experienced. There is a large communal fridge in the kitchen area, but our room had a mini fridge large enough to store everything we needed for the week we were there.
The villa is a 5 minute walk to the beach or a $4 dollar cab ride. The Villa is at the south side of the beach where there is an excellent tourist market. We bought beach towels for $6, rented beach chairs for $3, and no beer cost more than $1.25.
Dan and Kira were very kind and helpful in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. From delicious breakfast every morning, to recommending restaurants in the evening, to introducing us to Karina, our taxi driver and friend for the week, it wouldn't have been the glorious vacation that it was without them.
It was the beginning of low season, as we stayed there just after Easter, and we felt as if we had the place to ourself, our own island home. Hopefully, one day, we'll go home again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this place! It is the perfect size, you can get your privacy and at the same time hang out with other guests if you would like to. The poolside room that we stayed in was very cozy and clean. The cleaning lady did an excellent job every time and helped us gladly if there was anything that we needed. Dan, the owner, was super helpful at any occasion! We loved hanging out by the pool which was cleaned by Dan everyday. Margarita Tropical Villa is the perfect place for a couple, family or friends. It's also a very safe place to stay at. We will definitely come back to Dan's for our next visit to the Island!

Wow ! what a fabulous place to stay.We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful, clean and friendly posada for 3 weeks. The owners Dan and Kira could not have been better hosts for us.
We stayed in a poolside villa which was roomy with an en suite bathroom and had satellite TV, fridge, air conditioning and a lovely large comfortable bed. The room was cleaned daily. every day we returned to the room we were greeted with a different creation of animals and flowers they had made from the towels.
The pool was cleaned daily, it was a good size and the pool area was a lovely place to sit in the sun.

Fantastic varied breakfasts were on offer every day and the eating area was situated in a lovely upstairs area with great views.
The posada was within a few minutes walk to a lovely boulevard with numerous restaurants / bars, shops and market etc, and the beach was gorgeous with sun loungers and umbrellas.

The cheap local bus service ran frequently to many parts of the island. Together with this and the friendly locals it all added to the charm of this delightful holiday island.

If you don't speak any Spanish, don't despair as there is always someone around to assist and if you do not like the idea of hiring a car then a driver and vehicle can be hired for as long as you like, or there are numerous tours on offer to give you a flavour of the island.

this is truly a home from home posada in a delightful setting on a beautiful tropical island and we shall certainly be returning.

Thank you for everything Dan and Kira, and thank you for making our vacation a truly memorable one.

      Quiet peaceful place to stay

Left on 02/26/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We decided to stay at this villa for our first stop on Margarita Island because there were so many good reviews and they all turned out to be true about the villa. Dan was very hospitable and totally helpful. The villa was very clean, well maintained and our pool side room was comfortable and very quiet. We found that the villa was a bit farther from the beach than we thought but we could walk there.

We also chose this villa because we understood that Playa el aqua was the best beach to be at on Margarita Island but after checking out the Island we found that several other beaches were better for swimming ( those on the Caribbean side) and some beaches were better for evening entertainment ( like Playa el Yaque). We could swim at Playa el aqua but after supper it was very quiet and not real easy to find a restaurant after about 8pm. At night it was impossible to find any entertainment or fun places to go.

If you are looking for a nice, quiet, clean, safe place to stay and you aren't looking for alot to do at night , then this is a very good place to stay. We booked 4 days at the start of our trip here and 4 days at the end because we were led to believe we'd have a hard time finding a place to stay during the last part of vacation on Margarita Island as carnival was on then. The first 4 days were great but we chose not to spend all of the last 4 days there even though we lost our deposit because we found that Playa el Yaque was far better for finding restaurants & entertainment in the evening.

*The house and individual rooms are both beautiful and neatly kept. The rooms are spacious, the beds quite large, and DirectTV service was especially appreciated during rainy afternoons.
*Free internet access was great because we had not brought laptops. It is close enough to the beach to walk, but far enough away to be peaceful. Breakfast was always ready before 8:00 and was made available to guests until 11:00. It was delicious and included something for everyone.

This B&B; is close to the beach and also within easy walking distance of restaurants and a convenience store. Gini does an excellent job of cleaning the rooms and Dan keeps the pool in spectacular shape. Be aware that breakfast is a 'make your own' and the options provided do not change so (a) you need to be a bit creative each day to change it up a bit and (b) if you are staying longer than a week you might become bored with the options. Overall, this is very good value for the money and the minimalist traveller or first-time visitors to Margerita Island will find that it is a great starting location for further exploration. Highly recommend Cruisin 'n Style (Steve and Marcella) airport pick up and drop off and for Island tours. Must visit restaurants in Playa El agua: Fra Fra pizza and Costa Linda Beach

Hopefully we will see you back one day.
We might mention for other guests that we provide all the basics for a nice breakfast - eggs, bread, biscuits, ham, cheese, cream cheese, peanut butter, tomatoes, onions, cereal, fruit, milk, juice, coffee & tea.

All guests have access to a fridge so anyone that gets bored with this selection can buy what they want at the local stores. They have a complete freedom to make whatever they want. In the 23 different hotels we visited in Canada & the USA in May, 2011 the breakfasts were the same each day.

In any event we enjoyed having you stay with us & hope you will recommend us to others in the future.

      Best wishes & a Happy New Year...Dan & Kira

      A very comfortable, relaxing stay

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in October 2011

After checking out the all inclusive options online and not getting the feeling they would be quite up to scratch or provide the flexibility we wanted as independent minded tourists, we decided to stay here.

We stayed 10 nights and had a lovely time.
Our flight landed late but we had no problem getting a taxi from the airport and were met by Dan who showed us our room.

The room was one of the poolside double rooms and can highly recommend these rooms as being comfortable, peaceful, quiet and well equipped.

There was a huge king size bed ( UK Superking size) which was extremely comfortable.

Quiet and cool air conditioning and a small but perfectly adequate bathroom.

There is in-room DirectTV ( satellite tv) in English and Spanish - we enjoyed watching films in the evenings.

The room was cleaned, bed made daily, towels fresh and immaculate every day. The staff are delightful - Dan has a great team.

The breakfast area upstairs in the main house is lovely, with an open aspect which catches the warm breeze and it was lovely to sit having breakfast every morning listening to the birds. Coffee, freshly made was awesome. We made sure we picked up some venezuelan coffee on the airport on the way home.

We rented a car and drove around the island which we parked in the villa driveway.

We felt safe and secure throughout our time at the villa.

The beach is a 5 minute walk away along the road.
The town has a beautiful beach and there are
other great beaches locally which, walkable if you fancy it, or alternatively a short drive away.

Overall this was a really good value, enjoyable stay, great host and a quality spot on the ialand. We toured around Margarita and it is an interesting and very varied place for a holiday.

The area around Playa El agua is in the best part of the island and we would not hesitate to recommend a visitor considering a stay on the island to base themselves at Margarita Tropical Villa.

The breakfast was different every day and quite filling. The common area was a great area to relax and enjoy . The computer room was useful and worked well. The pool was very refreshing at the end of a day in the sun and Dan kept the pool and area immaculate always. I would highly recommend this B&B; to anyone looking for an affordable, clean and welcoming bread and breakfast. My hat is off to Dan ,Kira and the crew. They all did a great job of making you feel at home as well as helpful with any questions you might have. It was a blast staying there.

We were very happy with our stay at Tropical Villa. Nice room, very comfortable bed, the host always available and helpful. Short walk to the beautiful Playa El aqua - the best beach on the island. Good restaurants at the beach, also travel agencies organizing trips, snorkeling etc. You can also rent a car to travel around the island.
If you go to Margarita, stay at Tropical Villa!

What a great place to stay!

Left on 02/03/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We booked Margarita Tropical Villa because we weren't up for the all-inclusives. Great choice. Our room was very clean, right next to the pool and quiet.

Dan and Kira were very kind to us. They had all sorts of helpful suggestions, took time to ask how we were doing and made our trip even more enjoyable. The all-inclusive breakfast was perfect too.

For example, on our last full day of our trip the snorkel excursion we had booked got cancelled. We booked it ourselves and should have used the company Dan deals with. Within a few minutes, though, Dan had arranged for another snorkel trip at the same price. A taxi got us right away and the day was saved! My girlfriend was thrilled!

The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach, which was fine, but consider getting a taxi back at night since there isn't a sidewalk on the main road and safety can be an issue in Margarita Island.

If you want to visit Margarita Island, stay next to the most popular beaches, not do an all inclusive, but stay at a first class place, look no further. I'd suggest a poolside room, by the way. That's where we stayed.

I should add that Dan, being a Canadian (as are we), was a pleasure to talk to and interact with. I had hoped that the standards of hotels we expect back home would be met at Margarita Tropical Villa and we weren't disappointed. King-sized bed, great a/C and full cable were quite welcome after a day on the beach or by the pool.

Really clean and cosy place on Isla Margarita

Left on 01/21/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We stayed at Dan and Kira's place for 2 weeks. The first week we spent in rooms beside the pool. Really nice and most important very clean indeed. We liked the place so much that we booked our second week to Casa Trudel too. Pool side rooms were occupied so we got the rooms upstairs. I must say, that we liked the poolside rooms more, but the upstair rooms had their own good sides - kitchen supplies almost behind the door, and the upstairs patio is very, very nice.
Staff and hosts are really friendly and helpful, and other guests were really nice people too. Last but not least, we felt really safe at Casa Trudel.

We highly recommend this place in Playa el agua if you are looking more form Isla Margarita than only all-inclusive hotel/holiday.

Thank You Dan and Kira for a really nice stay.

      Best Wishes from Estonia.

Stayed at the Posada Margarita Tropical Villa near Playa del agua on Isla Margarita. From on-line contact to 7 day stay, this was a wonderful experience. Dan and Kira really know how to run an nice accommodation and how to treat their guests. And they treat their guests like family (Dan lent me his digital camera for the week after I lost mine). Great breakfast, different every day, a short walk to the beach and bar/reataurant area, and a safe area all made the stay very pleasant. The cleanliness, and service of the staff at this pasada make is seem more like a 5* hotel than a pasada. Rooms are large and the poolside setting is tremendous. Only complaint I had (complaint is not the right term, really) is that there was no shelf in the bathroom to put anything on.
Overall, an exceptional experience and I would highly recommend this facility to anyone.

Great Value, Great Service, Beautiful accommodations!

I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Trudel B&B; (Margarita Tropical Villa) at Playa El agua, Margarita Island, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and I was quite impressed with every aspect of the place!

First of all, the staff were quite friendly and accommodating. When we arrived, we were greeted by Dan. He made us feel welcome and explained where everything is.

I like the fact that this accommodation is cozy and homely. Well, it is just that - a Bed & Breakfast, in which you get delicious breakfasts each day!

Dan explained the sites of Margarita Island, where to get a car rental, various tours that we could take and he explained about the exchange controls, plus a host of other things that made our stay on the island pleasant and memorable!

Secondly, the establishment has a great swimming pool which I took advantage of! The decor and way the place was set up, makes one feel right at home! It is very clean and safe!

I would easily recommend Casa Trudel for anyone looking to holiday on Margarita Island. It is strategically located near the Playa El agua beach, yet is not right on the beach that you would get a bit of the hussle and bustle. It's quiet and is only a very short walk to the beach!

      A fantastic place to stay

Left on 07/16/2010 for a stay in July 2010

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks and we were consistently impressed with the cleanliness of the room and pool area and the general helpfulness of the owners, Dan and Kira.

Breakfast was varied every day and was always tasty. The maids produced some stunning arrangements using our fresh towels and foliage from the garden, making swans and heart shapes.

Dan went out of his way to help me when I was not very well, driving me to the doctor and translating for me, and he was very knowledgeable about the island and where to go etc.

The location was good, about a 5 min walk away from Playa El agua, one of the most well known beaches on the island. There are many restaurants along the beach front as well, and we ate there most nights. You can get to other beaches and places of interest by taxi or bus, or hire a car like us.

All in all, we had a great time at the Margarita Tropical Villa, and we would recommend it to anyone wishing to visit Margarita properly, rather than staying in an all-inclusive hotel and not venturing out!

Playa El agua is the place to stay on Margarita Island - forget Porlamar; it's crazed. Casa Trudel is a short walk to the beach, down a relatively quiet street. The owners are fantastic, making sure you have everything you need, but never intruding on your privacy. A wonderful experience, one that I couldn't recommend any higher. Free Internet, Dish TV, breakfast, safety, cleanliness, relaxed atmosphere - an absolute bargain.

      High Quality Pasado

Found the pasado via Trip advisory and thought I try it out. The level of quality in all aspects of the house, the grounds and the staff was really hight. You could see that Dan a canadian wanted to make it a top destination for Canadian and tourists of all countries when he planned it out. The room was well decorated with all the mod cons( huge bed, direct TV, Air Con, etc) was nicely tiled very clean and a beautiful pool. Dan was fantastic host and gave a helping hand with all question that needed to be answered. As a result I found myself enjoying my time there and not worried about local issues. The pasado felt more like a villa so I was really happy with my stay. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, quality retreat. There is a beautiful beach in walking distance called Playa agua with many restaurant. For sure I will be back there some time soon. Enjoy.

Comfortable, clean, and a great price

Left on 05/17/2010 for a stay in May 2010

My wife and I recently spent a week at the Margarita Tropical Villa. The room was very comfortable, clean and in like new condition. The water was hot and the AC was nice and cold. Our beds were made each morning and our maid created artful designs with the towels and plant cuttings. She managed to make a different towel sculpture each day...a nice touch and a sign of someone with pride in their job. Dan was very nice and helpful.... always available, but never intrusive. It was nice to have someone that speaks English as our Spanish is poor. All other guests were a pleasure to talk with. Relaxing upstairs on the couch and reading, enjoying breakfast,or just drinking coffee was quite peaceful. Not too long a walk to the beach, but I would highly recommend renting a car (about $35.00 per day) so you can visit other beaches, fishing villages, shop, etc. If you don't want to drive you can easily catch a cab at nearby corner. Just signal a taxi when it beeps at you as it approaches.
We felt safe and comfortable everywhere we went on the island. Not my favorite island though...too dry, too much rubbish (very much like Bocas del Toro Panama), and difficult to find good or even average food.
If you are planning to visit Margarita Island, Margarita Villa is a great place to stay at an excellent price. If we were to return to the island we would stay here again.

My husband and I spent a month at Margartia Tropical Villa this past winter. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was very comfortable, quite spacious and had an excellent air conditioning system. The staff kept the rooms spotlessly clean. We cooled off in the pool everyday and enjoyed exercising in the water. The open air breakfast nook and lounge was very pleasant with a tasty breakfast every morning. We also appreciated the free use of the guest computer. The owners and staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The beach is about a 10 minute walk from the villa. We met so many wonderful people from around the world that were staying at the villa. We also appreciated the reasonable price!

      Best Posada on the Island

Left on 05/17/2010 for a stay in April 2010

I have returned to this posada time and time again. Why? Because you won't find better value for money on Isla Margarita.

The rooms are always impecably clean and come well furnished, with all the mod cons avaiable (cable tv, air conditioing, hot showers, etc...). Every day, except Sundays, a maid service is provided and they leave everything in excellent conditon. I did worry about this to begin with, but then I learned that all the people working in the posada were part of the family, so there was no danger of anything getting stolen - which happens in other hotels in the area.

The site of the posada is within walking distance of the beach, restaurants and shops (5-10 mins). But it is far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle of the crowds to maintain a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

The owners have put a lot of effort into maintaining the grounds, with palms and beautiful flowers lining the walkways. And the pool is always clean topped up with water, which is very nice after a hot day on the beach.

What else. The owners are very nice, welcoming people. Dan and Kira are well connected in the area, so they can help you out with any curiosities you might have. This will be useful to you AND save you a lot of money, as a lot of the locals like to take advantage of 'gringos' (foreigners). Beware of there friendly advances, smiley faces and offers of free advice. The taxi drivers are the worst. They all want to make their margins on you.

But anyway. I can't praise this place enough. If you want an authentic, relaxing vacation in a safe, clean environment, at a good price, then this is the place for you. If you've got any questions, send me an email and I'll get back to you.

      Happy travels!
