Description from the owner
Two gorgeous well-appointed suites that are perfect for singles and couples wanting to stay right on the beach while vacationing at the beach. We are located on Potrero Bay which is the beach just north of Flamingo in the Guanacaste Province on the North Pacific side of Costa Rica. Both suites have gorgeous views of the ocean, beach, pool and great sunsets. Relax by the infinity lap salt pool or sit on the bar stools to watch the sun go down. There is a full time caretaker on the property that will clean the units as well as offer towels/linens/beach towels. We also have a gas grill for those impromptu BBQ's. Hammocks are available if you'd l...Read more

We couldn't have chosen a better vacation site for our needs. We like to be outside of the busy resort areas but close enough to get to them with a short drive. We did rent a car so we were able to get to many of the local communities and resort areas easily. The suite itself had everything we wanted during our stay. We sampled many of the local restaurants in the evenings but were able to cook meals in the suite when we didn't want to get out. The kitchen was well supplied with all the necessary dishes and utensils. I thought the bed was especially comfortable.
We enjoyed the hammock and pool during the morning and mid-day and the cabana watching the gorgeous sunsets in the evening. The infinity pool was well maintained and always at the perfect temperature. We also enjoyed the resident iguana the lives in the drain near the end of the pool. Janet and her family kept the grounds immaculate. They were very cordial and were able to help us out with all of our needs. Between Janet's daughter speaking English and the translation capabilities of our iPad, we got by very well. They are very friendly and unobtrusive.
We had a wonderful time and will recommend the Villa Malibu to anyone interested in vacationing in the area. -

Villa Malibu is perfect for a couple, who want privacy and personal space to relax. It also works well for two couples or a family with two older children (if you reserve both suites). We stayed in the Luna suite and found it to be spacious, comfortable and well-kept, even stylish I would say. The kitchen is stocked with everything one would need, and more. Its proximity to the beach was one of the main reasons I chose the property, however, we were somewhat disapointed by the beach there. It's not white sand, so you really need a car, so you can check out other, much prettier beaches, in the area.

MinneapolisNice, but hot
Left on 04/08/2010 for a stay in February 2010
The accomodations were great. Kitchen was well stocked. I was surpirzed that it was a salt water pool, but it was a nice pool. Loved the location. Local restaurants were a treat. I did't lke the dirt roads -- they were very dusty so walking on them was unpleaseant -- instead we walked the beach.
It would be nice to have a covered balcony to get out of the hot sun without having to spedn time indoors. The property alos did not have shade.
It was hard to communicate with the on-site help. As such when we arrived the pool was unuasabel until it was shicked and cleaned and our room went uncleaned one day and we had to seek out the help to have it cleaned another day.Response from Villa Malibu, Suites on the Beach - 03/19/2011

We appreciate your feedback and hope that you will return to visit. I would highly recommend renting a car next time to thoroughly enjoy the area.
Regarding the salt water pool, it has a large rancho that offers shade in a portion of the pool as well as a portion of the deck benefits from the shade. We have also hired a new pool cleaning company for the maintenance and have replaced the pool pump.
As for the caretaker, she does not speak English but the property management office will be happy to communicate between her and our guests if needed. The caretaker usually does a great job of keeping the suites clean however she does have one day off a week. It could be that this was her day off. We apologize for any issues and hope that you will come back again.
Villa Malibu offers two wonderful beachfront suites and we want to make sure your vacation experience is wonderful and that you will come back again. If you have any questions please contact us and we will be happy to address your questions.

victoria, bctruly a perfect bit of paradise in costa rica
Left on 03/28/2010 for a stay in March 2010
We could not have picked a better place for our first visit to Costa Rica. Great location, on a beautiful, quiet beach. walking distance to playa la penca, playa flamingo, the local restaurants, and supermarkets.
The property was well maintained, safe, tranquil, bug free inside and out, and we really enjoyed the infinity lap pool.
The property management company was great to deal with and just a short walk or phone call away.
And the suites had everything you needed. The kitchen was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and Janet did a great job of cleaning the suite. And it was tiled throughout. The only negative thing we could say is that Janet, sweet as she was, and a very good worker, did not speak any english at all. Our spanish was limited, so that did not help. Otherwise, everyone else, could speak english. Thank goodness for the fans and a/c. Apparently during our visit, it was exceptionally hot, even for the ticans.
We loved waking up to the birds chattering away and the sound of waves. Morning and evening walks were our favorite, as the breeze was so nice, and we could observe the local fisherman in the water and the pelicans diving away for fish. We loved seeing the wandering neighbourhood cows on a regular basis, and the local dogs. We loved sitting by the pool, watching the iguana and all the birds that stop by for a drink of water. Best of all for us, was catching on to the sounds of the howler monkeys and able to see them a couple of doors down.
On Thursday afternoons, a local truck stops by the area to sell melon and oranges.
We were fortunate to have just about 3 weeks to spend here as we were able to observe the ebb and flow of the area.
Buses are only a short walk away, and i recommend using them. You can go to Brasilito or Tamarindo for the day.
This was the first time that we have used VRBO and it has been a good experience for us. The property was as promised, the vacation very relaxing.

My boyfriend and I had the sincere pleasure of spending a fantastic ten days at this property. From start to finish, everything was efficient, pleasant, and beyond what we could have asked for. The staff were always on-top of things, check-in process a breeze, and the property was beautiful.
We stayed in the Luna Suite and found the kitchen to be more well stocked with appliances than at home. The pool was awesome and perfect for sunset swims to cool down at the end of a hot day of surfing. The property is a bit off the beaten path from nearby Tamarindo so it is quiet, serene, and exactly how I would prefer my vacation to be. Yet, all major surf spots, more touristy areas, and loads of beaches are all a short drive/walk away.
A heads up, we drove in from San Jose to save expenses of the additional connecting flight. It took about 4.5 hours but was well worth it to see the countryside. I wouldn't hesistate to make the drive again.
Overall the property was gorgeous, everyone was kind and helpful, the rates extremely reasonable, and all we could have ever asked for in a vacation. I would recommend this condo to anyone looking to travel to Costa Rica and I hope to stay there again in the not so distant future.

Everything was great!!!since the time we arrived, everyone was very helpful. The handyman who lives there is friendly and took care of all of extra requirements(an ice bucket for the pool area,knive..etc!!).Having the beach just steps away from the cousy bedroom is amazing, and the awesome sunset every afternoon is speachless. We highly recommend a car if you are flying in to Tamarindo.

Peace & Tranquility
Kearney, MOOur Trip to Paradise
Left on 06/16/2009 for a stay in February 2009
We spent 2 weeks at Villa Malibu in late February to March 10th and it was the most relaxing experience we have had in years.
The villa was neat, clean and had everything that we needed.
We shopped for a few groceries at a small market just a couple blocks away. The town of Flamingo, much more populated, has some nice restaurants and shopping, it's about 4 miles from Potrero. But is busier and more noise.
The beautiful lap pool, the view of the offshore island, the spectacular sunsets.
We can't say enough about the tranquility and beauty of Villa Malibu. Thank you so very much for this much needed experience of peace and quiet.
