      Great Place to stay!

Left on 04/06/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We spent a month at Villa Ferlito and enjoyed every minute of it. Having a little home away from home with the kids was great. The kitchen has very basic supplies and we got by with a little improvisation. We enjoyed the pool a lot and having laundry and WiFi in the unit was definitely a plus. It is clean and staff is great.
The location is good if you have a car, but getting around without one takes a bit more work and planning. Fortunately, buses go right past the front of the property and the beach is a 1 km walk away - but make sure you find the shortcut by the school! Stores and restaurants also require walking at least 500 m.
The property has many trees full of monkeys, birds and iguanas. The wildlife was fun to watch and the howler monkeys woke us up every morning.
After leaving Flamingo, we traveled Costa Rica for another 2 months and found that Playa Flamingo was on our list of top 5 beaches in the country.

      Friendly Staff and Neighbors

Left on 04/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My fiancé and I travelled to Costa Rica for a writing retreat. We were recommended to Villa Ferlito by a local Tica working at one of the Flamingo resorts up the road. After looking at a few other neighboring properties, Villa Ferlito was a breath of fresh air!

The apartments are roomy and comfortable. There is a very large open living and dining room and two large bedrooms, both with aC units. Fresh linens are provided and the unit comes with a washer, dryer, and all the kitchen essentials. Management even provides some bathroom toiletries to get you started. A very nice touch!

The complex is large enough for introverts to sly under the radar, but small enough for extroverts to make friends at the pool or Sunday night dinner. This was perfect for us because my fiance's an introvert while I'm an extrovert. He could stay in the apartment while I mingled with the neighbors.

The people at Villa Ferlito are very friendly. There's always someone at the pool willing to chat. Management is the best. Christina and Robert are always ready to help and offer their assistance. Mario works at Reception and speaks excellent English for all the american and Canadian visitors. :) and...Monkeys roam the property at dusk and dawn, which was delightful!

The only thing I would recommend for guests of Villa Ferlito - come with a car. We didn't have one and had to walk everywhere, which was interesting and oftentimes cumbersome.

But all in all, great time there! Was able to finish my book!

We did a one month rental so the value was definetly there in the spacious, clean and basic villa. You can opt to join in on the poolside potluck bbq with the staff and guests.
Put your order in for fresh fish and it will be delivered to the villa and if you don't want to cook there are restaurants in the area that provide complimentary transportation.
Having your own transportation would be ideal but we managed with taxi's and buses. It's a 15-20 min walk to Flamingo and a little longer to get to Brasilito, both by shortcut.
Most of all the staff is friendly and eager to please. Don't hesitate to ask for anything.

Villa Ferlito met all of our expectations. It's a great location to explore the Guanacaste area. Within waliking distance of a bank, grocery store, restaurant, bakery, and a gym. The large pool and pavilion area was put to good use for Sunday evenings 'informal pot luck meals', a fun opportunity to meet and visit with your neighbors or to watch the antics of the frequent visits by the groups of Howler monkeys.

      Nice spot for looong stays

Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in February 2013

      Stream of thought...
Clean rooms, nice swimming pool, strong a/c, spacious rooms, accommodating staff, cozy beds. For us (we really prefer to cook), the kitchen was minimally stocked (though, when we asked for additional needs, they were as helpful as they could be). The location is 25 min walk to the beach- 10 min to the market- $2 taxi anywhere else near by. Easy to find.

We'd only recommend this spot to a large group, or anyone looking for a place that's a bit out of the way, or maybe to retirees. Renting a car is a good idea for this location.

Howler monkeys hang around the pool in the afternoon, and in the morning there are some great tropical birds around as well.

We arrived late in the night and was easy to find someone that gave us the keys of our apartment. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well organize. There was a nice kitchen, fridge, laundry, and living room. Rooms have both air and fans. Location is very central close to many beaches, some small supermarkets and restaurants in Brasilito. The administration personnel were very friendly. There was a swimming pool great to shill out in the night after a whole day of action.

Left on 03/07/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our two bedroom apartment at Villa Ferlito served as a really great base from which to explore the many beautiful beaches and other sites in the area. Though it is not on the beach, it is very conveniently situated between Playa Flamingo and Playa Basilito and on different days we walked to both beaches from our apartment. There are back roads to get to each beach so that you do not have to walk the main road. Villa Ferlito also has some mountain bikes to rent very cheaply and one day we rode to Flamingo, Brasilito, and then on to Playa Conchal, an outstanding beach as well. From Villa Ferlito it is also easy to get to Playa Danta and Dantita, where you can rent sea kayaks, sup surfboard gear, and ride the 15k+ of single track mountain bike trails they have put in there. We rented a sea kayak and paddled to Playa Penca, Playa Prieta, and Sugar Beach as well. All amazing beaches with no one else there! Another wonderful treat was the howler monkeys that migrate down to the trees by the swimming pool at the Villa every afternoon! It was great to watch and photograph the baby monkeys clinging on the mother monkey's backs! We also felt very safe at Villa Ferlito and never once worried about leaving our belongings in our apartment. Staff was great and very helpful too! We had a great time!

We like that place considering that we were there for one month, the appart.was a good size and having the washer and dryer in the appart.was very convenient ! Other reasons : 1) the price was affortable,we did'nt mind leaving for few days
and pay for another place ! 2) We can go to the beach by feet (15 mi) or by car (5 mi). 3) Not far for good resto and dépanneur.4) The place is quiet, nice swimming pool , and the morning we get up with the monkes sound !!! The plaza at Flamingo Beach is very nice and when there is some music,it's very pleasant ! 5) We can play tennis at Flamingo beach resort for 10$ an hour !
Finely, the owners and the management do all they can for our accomodation ! Spécially Bernie !!!
We will be there again next year!!!

Central location to many beautiful beaches

Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in January 2013

My family and I stayed at one of the apartments this winter. It is a spacious two bedroom with living area as well as dining area. Basics house essentials were provided but if you need anything specific, staff will provided. Also, special requests will be met before arrival if possible. The pool is very nice since it gets hot during mid days. Kiddie pool is a huge plus! Grocery store is nearby by I would not walk there. The complex is on the main road, drivers go about 40 mph and there is little to no shoulder or side walk. Because the complex has the apartments next to you and two in front, you meet alot of people. many are long term residents, 3-6 months. most have cars but some took buses and cabs or
Walked. Flamingo Beach is a 8 min drive, 30 minute walk through some ones private land, up the hills, not a walk for night time or under mid day sun. Once there you can enjoy the waves and dine at Coco Loco. Brasilito beach is a little closer but not as pretty or clean. But there is a little island you can swim to! Danta beach is a must see because it is a very calm black sand beach. Park at Lola's for lunch and you can hang out all day. The drive up the bumpy, hilly road is about 25 mins. Tamarindo Beach is a more touristy area with lots of shops. You can rent surf boards by the hour or take lessons. It is about a 30 min drive and there is a great grocery store in the area, Auto Mercado. Prices are high. Some suggestions to consider: rent a car from Liberia, easy one hour drive that way you have access to go exploring whenever and where ever you want. There are only a few main roads so if you follow the signs it's easy. We went to Miravalles Valcanoes and paid $25/pp instead of tour guide prices. We got a tour of the craters, mud facial, hot spring Bath and sauna. The drive took 2.5 hours and the tour 2 hours.

Sunsets are beautiful on any beach. It was a very memorable trip.

Great Choice for Vacationing Tico (Costa Rican) Style

Left on 02/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Just returned from a month at Villa Ferlito in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica.I've travelled abroad quite a bit and the apartment was wonderful- clean, nicely tiled and painted with natural tones reflecting the region and much bigger than I'd anticipated. Glad to have my own kitchen and having a washer and dryer available in the apt was an additional plus!!!
The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. They spoke English quite well. I had one thing that needed to be taken care of in the kitchen and it was promptly attended to.
The apartments are set up with 4 apts facing a common courtyard area. This ended up being a real plus because, while we could have as much privacy as we wanted, the layout encouraged conversation and general "getting to know your neighbor." We all shared information about sites to see, how to get around, restaurants and shopping tips. Another gathering place was the pool area where we were able to meet others staying at Villa Ferlito. An additional feature of the pool was the congregating of howler monkeys in the fruit trees every evening around dusk- what a show!!!
The weather was hot and blue skies everyday- thank God for the pool and nearby beaches of Brasilito, Conchal and Flamingo! A bank, good restaurant (Tubla) and grocery was a 10 minute walk from VF. I didn't have a car and found it easy to walk to beaches. There is a local bus service to use and to make trips away from the immediate area. I also used taxis (very inexpensive!) and a private bus service (Interbus) for a trip away from the Guanacaste area- again with reasonable prices and aC!
I took a tour to arenal and Monte Verde that I booked with 2 young men operating a Tour Service and living long-term at VF...it was excellent and easy!
If you want a fancy plush bed, maid service and the amenities of an expensive resort hotel this isn't the place for you. If you want basic comfort, cleanliness, a warm community and "bang for your buck" this is an excellent choice.

I stayed at Villa Ferlito from Dec. 18, 2012 to Jan. 17, 2013 (one month) and loved it. I found the apartment spacious and clean. I was a female travelling alone and I felt very safe there.

The property managers were fantastic. They encouraged and assisted in guests spending fun time together (if we chose to). We had several meals together at the pool...pot luck, barbecue, pizza, etc. I really enjoyed that. At the same time I was able to have lots of privacy and time to myself in and around my apartment.

The owners were also great to deal with from the first to the last. They always responded to my emails in a very timely manner.

I'd highly recommend Villa Ferlito and would return in a minute. Wish I were there right now...

All the comforts of home plus a beauty-of-a-pool & a friendly co

Left on 01/20/2013 for a stay in January 2013

I would go back to Villa Ferlitto in a heartbeat. I was there with 6 friends, we had two rooms and dined together, swam and played board games pool-side, picked fresh limes, enjoyed the monkeys and the various birds and walked to the beaches each morning! The extended-stay folks were welcoming and fun to socialize with as well - they expressed their sense of comfort, security and friendliness of Villa Ferlitto as soon as we met them, and we enjoyed their company on outings to the farmers market, a waterfall, and a quad ride to several beaches. Anyone interested: I recommend the same approach - get a group together, rent some rooms, fly the nice 5 hour flight from NY to Liberia, then kick back and enjoy the fun! The catamaran cruise out of Potrero was a hoot, but even the simple joy of beach after beach after beach was great! Each beach has a different aura.

      Great Value - Great Location

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We arrived late evening to check in. Bernie one of the managers was there waiting for us with they keys and a big smile. All of the management staff there was friendly and hardworking.

My kids were thrilled to have their own room. You definitely would not get this booking at one of the big resorts. The property provides all of your basic amenities - but you also have your own washer and dryer which was a big added bonus. The beds could use some updating but we were all so tired at the end of the day it wasn't a problem.

We really didn't spend a ton of time in our Villa. We spent most of our time exploring all of the nearby beaches. Playa Conchel is to die for. Nearly secluded if you go all the way to the end. You have to drive behind a restaurant, past Playa Brasilto and across some water. Really isn't even a road. Don't be discouraged - just keep going. All of the locals know this is the place and you will pass plenty of other cars. You can get a good view of the $700 a night Westin as you go past.

As far as Villa Ferllito - it's a great value. The $$ you save here can be used for sports fishing, fine dinning, massages on the beach, etc... If you need granite countertops and oceanfront views then this is not your place. If you need a home base this totally fits the bill.

The only downside I could say is there was a really rowdy group of young adults staying there. But the local management clamped down on them and things quieted down considerably.

I can't thank amy and her staff enough for accommodating our last minute date changes. It's the personal service that really makes this a winner.

5 to 10 minute drive to Playa Flamingo, Playa Conchal, Playa Brasalito, and Playa Potrero are the best in Costa Rica and great restaurants. 3 minute drive to convenient liquor/grocery store with most of what anyone would need. Howler monkey's and parrots in the morning were a kick and the pool was 5 star. No views and the short drive up to rooms could use some repair but the price makes those no issues.

Great location, perfect beach and an affordable price

Left on 08/28/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Villa Ferlito is ideally situated near a perfect beach called Playa Conchal (Shell Beach) in the middle of the Guanacaste coast. Imagine sparkling turquoise waters with a white sand bottom. Rocks at one end of the beach create a nice snorkeling spot teaming with fish, leopard and sting rays, moray eels and turtles.

To experience this slice of heaven, most people stay at the trendy Westin Conchal Resort ($$$). For those with a rental car, Villa Ferlito provides an great economical option. You trade-off cramped but luxury resort opulence for roomy but basic accommodations - two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, kitchen, washer and dryer! While Villa Ferlito has an large, invitingly clean swimming pool, we opted for the beach instead, which is about 5 minutes drive away.

For groceries, a small, modern mini-market (Super Massai) is about a minute away and a large grocery store (Super Compro) about 15 minutes by car in Huacas. However, we ended up only cooking two dinners during our week because we found really great food (good quality at very reasonable prices) at Don Brasilitos, a large open-sided restaurant, just off of the beach (5 minutes away). Jeff, the owner from Chicago, draws a lot of local, expat and visiting tourists, and the place is family (kid) friendly. Our son loved the free WiFi there. You can sit at one of the many tables, but if you set around one of the bars instead, you save the 20% service charge.

We drove around, exploring other beaches. Villa Ferlito is well situated for this. We took surfing lessons at Frioles Loco at Playa Grande, which is about 30 minutes drive away and has the perfect surfing beach - consistent wave action. Other highlights include: watching Macaws at Mi Finca Restaurant in Limonal, rafting on the Tenorio River in Canas, hiking around the fumeroles and mud pots in Rincon de la Vieja National Park, and holding and playing with a baby Howler monkey called LuLu at Congo Trails in artola.

Great Value for the money. Apartment amenities were basic as was advertised. Rooms were spotless. I have to say the unit had the most comfortable beds I have slept in in a long time. The pool was a welcome treat. Again very well maintained and clean. Staff and long term renters were amazingly friendly, and quick to offer help and assistance in any way. Special thanks has to go to Javier Morales (www.lovingcostarica.com) who helped make our visit that much more special. Location was perfect. 20 minute walk to hustle and bustle of Flamingo beach (If you call 30-40 people on a mile long white sand beach on an average day hustle and bustle). Grocery store a few hundred yards down the road. This location gave us a taste of what the people and area of Costa Rica is really like. After what we experienced we're looking forward to going back.

Great selection for the Flamingo/Brasilito area

Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Recently my girlfriend and I travelled to the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica and decided to spend the majority of the stay in a vacation rental.

The option we chose was Villa Ferlito, very near Playa Flamingo.

Villa Ferlito, as we discovered, lived up to all the positive reviews and comments that I had read before we booked our get away.

It is a bit less than an hour away from the Liberia airport, and very near the beaches of Playa Flamingo, Playa Brasilito, and Playa Conchal (which was my favourite), as well as quite close to many others. Stores and restaurants are very near as well to obtain any supplies you may require, and many stores sell alcohol.

I must say...I prefer Pilsen Cerveza over Imperial...just my preference...more refreshing and crisp flavour.

The Villas are in great shape, very large, and come with all the necessities as well as additional luxuries (free Wi Fi).

For the off season price, what you receive in an accomodation for the price paid is exceptional.

The owner, Amy Borglum, was very helpful both before and during our stay, answering many questions and offering much advice on the area and options for activities. Thank you again amy for your help.

Just a tip to remember if travelling to Costa Rica (if your first time)...it is a poor country, especially the region I stayed in. The roads can be quite hit or miss, and travelling can be difficult by conventional car (many rent 4X4 vehicles for a reason).

Our stay at Villa Ferlito was a very pleasant experience, and a good choice for people who may seek an alternative to the typical resort holiday.

We really enjoyed our time at Villa Ferlito! The rooms were clean and perfect with a full kitchen and laundry. The pool was very nice and the whole complex is very quiet.
It was only a 15 minute walk to Playa Flamingo and within walking distance to groceries and restaurants. It was also only a short taxi ride to Playa Brasilito and Playa Conchal.
Amy (the owner) was very helpful (via email) prior to leaving and gave us lots of great tips about Costa Rica.

Villas Ferlito is a good place to stay if you're looking to make a budget trip with family. Two rooms, complete kitchen, washer and dryer, cable TV...all in good, clean condition. There is not much decoration, either in the apartments (plain walls, simple furniture) or on the grounds (just a little gardening...not resort style landscapes). Its quiet, and a good base for visiting Playa Flamingo and other spots nearby.

      Wonderful Value

Left on 12/13/2011 for a stay in December 2011

Had a wonderful experience with this place. The proprietor was in touch with me from beginning to end to walk me through the reservation, give advice on what to do in Costa Rica, and address any concerns I had.
The rooms were spotless, the kitchen appliances look practically brand new, both bedrooms had aC units, the beds were very comfortable, and the employees were very friendly and eager to help in any way they could.
On foot, this place is 10 minutes away from a supermarket, 20 minutes away from one beach, and 30 minutes away from a second beach in the opposite direction. Not a lot of cars so the walks were rather pleasant. We never even made use of the pool, but it looked very nice!

The right choice of home away from home.

Left on 11/20/2011 for a stay in March 2011

Staying at Villa Ferlito is an apartment style Villa with all the ammenities one needs. It's tucked away from the road so it's quiet and safe with security. It has a large custom pool very refreshing, clean and plenty of area around it for enjoyment . As you wake in the morning it will be to the sounds of "Howler Monkeys" and "Exotic Birds" very cool ... Within walking distance to Flamingo Beach,BCR (bank),Jungle Gym and Yoga Center, supermarkets, restaurants and gift stores. I highly recommend Villa Ferlito as being the right choice to make reservations.

Great location and value in Playa Flamingo

Left on 11/09/2011 for a stay in May 2011

I am returning to Villa Ferlito after three consecutive winters in Costa Rica - I consider it "home" when I am there! I find the location excellent with most amenities (several beaches, groceries, gym, banking, bars and restaurants) within easy walking distance or just a couple minutes by car. The accomodations are simple, clean and open suites that have basic furnishings, linens and kitchen needs. The grounds are tidy with a wonderful large pool with big lounge chairs and palap area that is usually quiet and always clean. The staff is friendly and helpful - always smiling and eager to make me happy. While there may be fancier places to stay, I believe that Villa Ferlito offers good value for the money for those travellers or snowbirds looking for a basic and affordable home away from home. I have always felt safe and comfortable here - it's just what I want and need! Pura Vida!

      Home far away from Home

Left on 11/07/2011 for a stay in October 2010

I moved to Villas Ferlito in October 2010 and it's been my Permanent Home far away from Home for a whole year already. Times goes by so quick!
I have been working in Guanacaste for the last past 10 years and the Owner's & Staff at Villas Ferlito's have changed my life style completely.
The Howler Monkey's are on site every day hanging around the Pool's and BBQ area. The fact that is a Gated Community with Security Guards 24/7 makes you feel very safe and secured.
The atmosphere that you breath at the Gardens is just unique, they make sure that your time in the green areas capture your senses.
Within 5 minute drive you can get to most beautiful and secluded beaches in Guanacaste like Conchal, Flamingo Potrero and Sugar Beach.
Walking distance Restaurant, Supermarket, Gym and a Private School makes the permanent resident and visitors feel just like home.
If you are looking for relaxation, tranquility and safe fun; Villas Ferlito is the Place to stay.

Perfect place for a family; like an apartment.
Quiet and beautiful, and right in the middle of nature.
Walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and activities.
Especially a good place for younger kids and teenagers. Plenty of activities minutes away for all ages.

Great Place to stay in Costa Rica

Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in February 2011

I have stayed at this hotel, two times in the last two years. I found Villa Ferlito to be a great place to stay for many reasons. The cost was very economical, the location is perfect, close to beaches, restaurants, and tourist activities. The pool is awesome and my favorite thing about the villas are the wildlife surrounding the property. Would sit on patio and watch monkeys, and birds in the trees, daily.Would highly recommend and will most certainly return again.
