CTLuxury house, beautiful beach!
Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This house is just beautiful! We were a group of 4 adults, 4 teens and one toddler and this home easily accommodated us all. The spacious layout gave everyone a space of their own and the large open kitchen/ dining/ living area was perfect for meal times. We enjoyed the warm pool and shaded porch areas. The tropical birds were fun to watch in the mornings. The house has a live in caretaker couple who live over the garage in a separate apartment. They were never intrusive, but seemed to magically appear when we needed help with the driveway gates, or when the pool needed skimmed.
The beautiful Playa Grande beach is a short three minute walk. We visited two other local beaches and this one was by far the best. Tons of shells, and sea life to explore and great waves for boogie boarding and beginner surfing. At night this beach is closed during turtle nesting season, you can book a turtle watch walk at the park's info center nearby. One morning we saw the baby turtle tracks in the sand- so cute! One night walking home we saw a group of howler monkeys hanging out in the trees.
The area of Guanacaste was very dry this time of year, which made it dusty, but cut down on the bug bites a bit. There are several day trip options to Palo Verde and Ricon volcano that we enjoyed. To get here is a bumpy dirt road, but hey it's Costa Rica, it's suppose to feel like an adventure, right? The people are very friendly and helpful. We drank the local water and ate out a few times. Some of the group had a bit of a low belly rumble by the time we left, but nothing so bad it held us back.
Overall, I would highly recommend this spot. Plus, the home owner will put you in touch with Corynne at Frijoles Locos. She owns this nearby surf shop and acts as your concierge while you are here. She arranged car rentals, adventure tours, and surf lessons for us all. She is super cool and you should feel confident in her care!
