Doral, FloridaThough we had a pleasant stay, the aftermath was a nightmare..."
Left on 01/18/2013 for a stay in December 2012
I do not recommend dealing with the management of this property which is the main reason I give it one star. Based on information given by the house’s cleaning staff (which are no longer Sixto and Pastora as most of the reviews mention), management proceeded to charge my credit card a charge for additional four people which I repeatedly explained to the owner we did not have. We rented the house for 16 people and found only 14 bed spaces. He never accepted his responsibility in providing a less number of beds than what he had agreed to and never issued a credit in this regard. But in fairness to the Trip advisor community, I will still like to give you some details on the facilities as for you to make a well-informed decision.
After reading the reviews on Villa Camellia, we decided to go ahead and rent this property for the week of New Year 2012 (seven nights in total). Our party consisted of 16 people raging from 74 to 15 years, all of us members of the same family. We all came in at different dates and the property had our full party for only four nights. Though the villa is clean, spacious and well-ventilated, I think the descriptions are a little over the top as the mattresses definitely need an upgrade (comfortable sleeping facilities are a must to qualify for five stars), the main pool is very small, the hot tub is not hot (actually quite cold as it is constantly being cooled by the Northern wind), and the multiple levels on the property are not adequate for small children nor seniors with knee problems (lack of railings in most of the stairs in and outside the property). The views from every window are beautiful, though.
The main house and condo do not accommodate 16 people as we were led to believe. The property has enough space, but there is a total of 14 bed spaces (including a futon) which we discovered when we arrived. The main house has a very small bedroom on the first level with one bunk bed (accommodates 2), this room has no closet as it seems it was made to be an office. You go down two sets of stairs and you’ll find three bedrooms: the master with a queen bed which has a small bathroom (some construction was started and not finished leaving the pipes exposed), and two guest bedrooms with a queen bed each which share a bathroom. A couple of comments about this area: the mattress of one of the guest bedrooms was extremely firm, not appropriate for everyone and the “not hot” tub was on top of the master bedroom and when the pump was turned on, the noise was so loud that you couldn't sleep. Lets go back up to the level of the small bedroom with the bunk bed. From this level take another set of stairs and you are on the main level where the kitchen, a half bathroom and social area are. The kitchen is fully equipped and spacious; the furniture to this area is a little worn out. The outside terrace is nice. The total number of people that can sleep in the main house is 8.
The condo is completely outside the house, to get there you need to step out to a small sidewalk and walk down a very steep slope. The condo is spacious, with two bedrooms with one queen bed each (same problem with the firm mattresses) and a futon which is in the living room. One full bath and kitchen. The total number of people that sleep in the condo is 6 (assuming two sleep in the futon, which is smaller than a standard queen bed). The main pool is one level below the condo and you reach it via stairs with no railing.
Going back to the problem with the lack of 16 beds, not wanting to make an issue out of this (as the owner was not in Costa Rica and the local staff did not seem to have a solution to this problem), we requested members of our group who were going to arrive at a later date to bring two inflatable mattresses and we would have the youngsters of our crowd sleep there. This was probably a big mistake as we should have contacted the owner immediately and have him solve this problem, as it was his responsibility not ours. But acting in good faith and focusing in enjoying the trip, we made this decision.
I would say we had a pleasant stay, even though one of our elders was bit by a 4-inch scorpion and we found a huge tarantula spider in the house. This person was not allergic, so the bite did not go any further. But make sure to verify if a property is fumigated before you visit it, as a bite from a scorpion can be fatal in small children or allergic people and it can lead to an anaphylactic shock. These creatures are common in tropical climates; just make sure to take the necessary precautions.
The aftermath of our trip was a nightmare, though, as I had to file a claim with the credit card issuer and provide all the information for them to be able to reverse the charge which they finally agreed to do. I apologize for the long review, but I wanted to give you my honest opinion as for you to have the full picture of what you might be dealing with before you make a decision to rent this property. I’m sure you can find other options in Playa Hermosa and, in general, in Costa Rica and my recommendation would be to deal with someone that you’ll be able to see in the eye and meet in person once you are down there. Our experience might have been different if we would have been given this opportunity. -

We spent a week in this beautiful villa. The views were breathtaking and there were a variety of birds and monkeys for us to enjoy daily while sitting on the patio by the Jacuzzi. It was sunny and hot so a dip in the pool on the lower level was refreshing. Our hosts were very accommodating and made sure we saw the best of the sites in surrounding areas. The house was spotless all the time and the grounds well kept. Beautiful location.

Just wanted to share our wonderful stay from the 4th to the 11th of Feb this year at Villa Camellia. The home is so very lovely with great views of the Pacific Ocean, the countryside and the surrounding hills including such lovely patios and pools we could have stayed right there and had a most pampered vacation. Your flowers added bright spots in your surrounding gardens. Even the beach on the Pacific Ocean was only a pleasant walk away. Accommodations for all ten of us were comfortable with airy bedrooms and common areas. The meals were delicious with generous servings of tempting local foods. I would definitely recommend this villa to anyone wishing to bask in the delights of the Guanacasta region of Costa Rica. The beaches of Playa Hermosa are beautiful and I loved walking them. The region was a delight to explore where wildlife including the lovable Howler Monkeys were viewed in the trees daily. The staff was very pleasant and most accommodating.

I had a wonderful experience at Villa Camellia Paraiso with ten ladies from the states. The immaculate rooms were large and comfortable. Our hosts were very accommodating. The location is near beaches, shopping, and is about twenty quick minutes from the airport.
