Casa Cerca del Mar is a great family vacation house. Very clean and well maintained with plenty of space to spread out. Having your own private pool is perfect for kids, as is being a very short walk away from a beach with gentle waves. Having a roof top deck from which to watch the sun set over the Pacific is also very nice. If you are a mountain biker, the trails at Pura Vida Ride/Las Catalinas just 10 minutes north of the home are very good and the rental bike options are very high quality.

Casa Cerca Del Mar and its location provided the perfect blend of relaxation and outdoor adventure. The lovely home with the deck off the master bedroom (yet assessible to everyone by way of outside stairway) and the "crow's nest" were wonderful for early morning coffee, late afternoon drinks, and magnificent sunsets. We also enjoyed these spaces for dinner, reading and conversation. The lush back yard and pool felt secluded and truly gave us the sense that we had gotten away from it all! Another wonderful place to enjoy the activities mentioned above! There were four of us (two couples) and the home and grounds were spacious enough that we could be together but also spread out and do our own thing. We truly enjoyed our time together and found ourselves talking about how much fun it would also be to stay here with our children and grandchildren!
The location of the house was fabulous, a very short walk to the beach. Once there we spent hours in the refreshing yet wqrm ocean, walking the beach, and visiting the beach bars/restaurants. We also used the kyacks that were provided by the owner to explore the area. There were were several great restaurants close enough to walk to as well as a few markets. We also hired a local cook to come to the house a few nights - his meals were wonderful!! Playa Flamingo was very close by car and was where we booked our tours for snorkling, river cruise and ziplining. There were so many more adventures we could have taken in but we were only there a week and also wanted to have down time! Next time!! We must also add that the employees of the owner were helpful and friendly. It was a delight to find four coconuts, ready to drink, (thanks to Benito) sitting on the counter when we arrived back from ziplining! This truly was a perfect getaway for us! -

This home is located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood; close to quaint grocery stores and charming restaurants. The home is spacious, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Our family of seven spent almost two weeks there and it never felt confining.
The gorgeous beach is a mere stroll away and when you step foot on the soft sand, it's pure heaven. We walked to a wonderful restaurant and celebrated my mom's 90th birthday. What a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience!
I thoroughly recommend this home. -

For those that want to experience the essence of Costa Rica...the Pura Vida... this is the place for you! My family of four has stayed at La Casa Cerca del Mar twice. Once when our two children were 8 and 11, and again when they were older teens. Playa Portrero and the surrounding areas provide a great mix of exciting, outdoor activities, and more leisurely, relaxing opportunities. With the beach only a short walk away, we played in the surf a few times a day, and even at night. We used the bikes, provided with the house, to ride to local markets, shops and restaurants, and the house's kayaks enabled us to explore the variety of beaches and snorkeling spots. When we heard the calls of the howler monkeys in the morning, we knew that Benito the gardener had arrived with fresh coconuts for drinking. The kitchen at the house is clean and well designed and we used it to cook with the foods we bought at local markets. On our second visit, with a larger group of 8, we hired a local chef to cook dinners for us, using fresh fish and produce. The sunsets, seen from the third floor observation deck brought everyone together before dinner. The owners of the house have a great talent for interior design and have furnished the house with comfortable, pretty and efficient furnishings and amenities. We had fun excursions with Quad adventures, zip-lining and twice, we hired a dive boat to take us scuba diving. The overnight trip to arenal Volcano was really a highlight of our second visit. We also enjoyed day trips to Tamarindo and the village of Brasilito. The people are friendly and we felt safe and welcome. This is a great house in a wonderful, tropical location and you'll feel like La Casa, es su casa!
