      Made the Vacation a "vacation"

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Really don't know what else to say other than; what are you waiting for? Sure, it's a little more expensive than some of the others, but honestly it's the last thing I was thinking about when monkeys were jumping by my window, I was enjoying the pool, and could confidently walk around knowing myself, my luggage, and everything else was safe. Clean, pleasant, and Monika and Quinn made the stay extremely comfortable. Don't think about it, just stay here.

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in April 2012

Where do I start? Quinn & Monika are great; easy to reach, communicate w/, available w/out being cloying, fun, responsible owner/managers. We have stayed at Villa Blanca twice and put up a wedding party at The Logan last Spring. I wouldn't hesitate to stay either place again (joyfully) or recommend to close friends / family. They pay attention to details, usually in person, and their website spells out "the scoop" in detail(s), very creatively. And, the detail is not a romantic ideal / front, but reality. Additionally, I have found if you have any disagreement or concerns re your own vacation priorities, they are quick to listen and assist, if they can.

What they have dreamed, created, and I believe, are committed to, is demonstrated in the construction of The Logan, a refuge w/ a modern, industrial vibe, that is environmentally conscious while being extremely comfortable, and very "in tune" with it's hometown, Samara. That makes me happy, because outside my own small hometown in the Pacific Northwest, I've never fallen in love with a small town as much as I have with Samara.

Seldom does an industrial vibe feel especially welcoming to me, but in their commitment to environmental practice, sustainable design, and building w/ home place in mind, they have succeeded in making an atmosphere of cool retreat. The architectural design is tasteful and arty. In my mind, all we guests need to do is add a couple bouquets of flowers and tropical fruit! The eco bloques and shading vegetation give relief from the sun and heat, while allowing plenty of sunlight into the central gathering space and on private terraces. The layout & design blocks unwanted sound indoors, while enhancing sound in open public and private spaces where one can hear howlers (if one knows what to listen for) and tropical birds.

Our party especially loved gathering to visit in the salt water pool in the evening. The seating and lighting makes for a great ambiance. We also enjoyed having private spaces outside our rooms and the gathering space around the BBQ and Tiki Bar. We loved being in town and within walking distance of everything while being at the end of a private road, backed by a bit of forest.

We are not party animals, but if you go with a group, be aware you may be asked to be quiet and respect the neighbors / the establishment next door. That's reasonable. Still, "respect" and even "quiet behavior" seem subjective concepts. It is very difficult to be tip-toe-quiet at 9 pm when one is on vacation w/ a group of beloveds, having the time of your life! That said, we did our best, and still had a blast, and from what we know, there were no complaints.

Big thanks and best wishes to Monika and Quinn. We have incredible memories of our times at The Logan and at Villa Blanca.

Best Way to Enjoy Costa Rica's Beach Paradise!

Left on 03/23/2013 for a stay in March 2013

My wife and I just spent a week at The Logan in Playa Samara. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The Logan is very comfortable, quiet, well-situated on the periphery of the village. Its secluded and only a few short blocks to one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen! The owners, Monika and Quinn were very helpful to my wife and I with excellent suggestions of where to eat, what to visit, and offers to assist us while on our Costa Rican vacation. Quinn was there to greet us and show us how everthing worked. They are quick with returning the security deposit and run an efficient rental. It was our first trip to Costa Rica and they added to the very positive impression that we left with. We will be back to the Logan and Playa Samara!

      Perfect place to relax

Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Outstanding vacation rental, providing a wonderful place to chill out and enjoy this region of the Nicoya Peninsula.

Location is darn near ideal - at the end of a side street = quiet, but about 200m away from the town of Playa Samara = easy access to supermercados, restaurants, shop and beach.

Layout and condition of facility were great - 4 rooms available, each with generous kitchen, dining area, bathroom and bedroom. Each has sitting area with table (great for eating outdoors), along with shared pool / grill / chairs (see picture).

Outstanding owners Monika and Quinn handled all aspects smoothly and gave great suggestions for local area. Town itself had plenty of things to do, places to eat, etc. w/o feeling overcrowded at all.

One tip: Be certain to visit Playa Carrillo by car or bike, located ca. 5km away, for an absolutely fantastic beach experience - nicely quiet when we visited.

My friend and I loved this property. Monika and Quinn weren't in town when we arrived, however they made sure we were taken care of upon arrival. The Logan fits hand and hand with Samara. This place was made for relaxing in the sun. There are also a few amazing restos in town and also a great beach within walking distance of Samara (7km hike to make up for all the lazy days). Would gladly stay there again if I ever went back to Samara. I highly recommend it.

Left on 02/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we are happy we started in Samara. It is a nice, laid back beach town and The Logan was a wonderful place to stay for our ten day visit. Our rental was one bedroom with very comfortable beds, an adequate kitchen, shower with hot water, big outside sitting area on our second floor and a wonderful pool and yard. It is located on the edge of town with a short walk to the beach and close to many places to eat or buy groceries. Our hosts, Monika and Quinn, made sure our booking and stay were very pleasant and were quick to reply to any questions we had.

My girlfriend and I had our first visit to Costa Rica this past Christmas and New Year. The trip was fantastic and a large chuck of that was thanks to Monica and Quinn at the Logan in Samara. This sleepy and incredibly relaxing beach town is fantastic for decompressing from the stresses and strains of North american chaos. Fantastic food, fantastic beach and a fantastic place to stay. Samara can get really hot so the salt water pool at the Logan is perfect for a quick dip to cool off. I would highly recommend visiting Samara and I would also highly recommend The Logan.

Just returned from an idyllic week at The Logan - -if you are looking for a beautiful, laid back place to relax in style - this is it. The combination of the relaxing beach town of Samara and this lovely boutique apartment is a match beyond what I could have hope for. The apartments are gorgeous and have everything that you could ever want. The pool in the court-yard is one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen and the temperature is absolutely perfect! The apartments are equipped with everything that you need including two air-conditioning units and ceiling fans that ensure that the temperature is perfect at all times. We traveled with another couple but were very lucky to make fast friends with the people in the the other two units who we got along with very well and will keep in touch with after the trip. Having said that, although all of the units face on to the one court-yard, it seems easy for everyone to have their own private moments. Monika and Quin will make sure that you have everything that you need! They arranged for a couples massage with the talented Samassage team of Lisa and Wendy who we would highly recommend. All in all, this was one of the most relaxing vacations that I have ever had and we are already trying to figure out when we can return!

Perfect combo of modern meets jungle right in town

Left on 10/27/2012 for a stay in October 2012

The Logan is an eco-friendly modern rental property that is literally 10 steps to the town of Samara. The rental consists of 2 buildings with 2 units. Each unit has its own individual outdoor patio (or deck if you are in the upper unit) with outdoor seating. The 2 buildings open up to a salt water pool, outdoor bar/bbq area, and individual lounge seating for each unit.

What was great about this place was that the property backs up to the jungle, and yet the unit themselves are modern (stainless steel appliances), spacious, and chic. There were 2 air conditioner units (one in bedroom and other in family room) that cooled down our unit pretty quickly. There was a flat screen tv (42" i think) in each unit. This came in handy as we traveled during the rainy season and so a couple of nights we just stayed inside and relaxed.

The kitchen has a range, toaster oven, coffee maker, a big size fridge, and a blender. The kitchen is stocked with pots/pans, glassware, utensils etc...This was great for us as we went to the local store to stock up on some supplies (okay booze) and were also able to store/reheat some of our leftovers from dining out.

The shower had hot water that was consistent with a great 'rainfall' showerhead. I know it seems weird to point this out, but further into our trip we realized that not all accommodations that say they have hot water really do.

The units each have a phone and so we were able to purchase a calling card to use for calling back to the states.

The owners Quinn and Monika were really helpful and nice! They had plenty of suggestions of places to eat, shop, and general things to do.

Wifi was a little spotty at times, but this has nothing to do with the The Logan and more to do with the Costa Rican infrastructure.

Great views and scenery: One day we just sat by the pool, watched the birds fly by, listened to howler monkeys, and just enjoyed Costa Rica.

The Logan is a nice mix of modern comfort, conveniently located within walking distance of everything in Samara. No rental car needed!

We spent 3 weeks with our 2 young daugters (4 and 7 months at that time) in Samara and stayed at the Logan. What an amazing experience! Monika and Quinn were very nice and helpful.

The Logan is very well located and quiet. You can hear the monkeys in the morning It has everything you need, AC, wi-fi, fridge, stove, large TV. Samara is a small town - you can walk anywhere and the variety of restaurant is pretty good.

If you have a car, or a bicycle go to the next town Playa Carrillo, if like me prefer empty beaches with palm trees.

The Logan in a lovely sun dappled oasis in the town of Samara. Our unit was breezy and very comfortable. It had all one could need, packaged in well designed modern style. The salt water pool was perfect for floating and contemplating the array of tropical flora and fauna (howler monkeys, birds, iguana ). We enjoyed the BBQ when delicious local tuna was on the menu. We were a 5 minute walk to beach, stores and restaurants, of which there is a wide selection for such a small town. We had a wonderful stay at the Logan and in Samara and would highly recommend it!

      oasis in paradise

Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in December 2011

my wife and I stayed at the logan over new years 2011. the logan was recommended by friends. we had read the reviews, and noted how positive they were, but the logan still exceeded our expectations. clean, comfortable, practical with the bonus of attractive design and beautiful surroundings. the inner garden and salt water pool are an oasis of tranquility. it was very easy to relax in the inner courtyard and cool off in the pool. while we were there the other units were occupied by an older couple on a longer stay and a group of friends which occupied the other two units. The logan allows for a nice balance of opportunity for social interaction with fellow guests as well as privacy. the units are very spacious and come with wi-fi and television set (if you are so inclined) neatly tucked in the dining table and out of sight save for those who wish to view it from the couch. quinn and monica were attentive and easy to get hold of but nicely "hands off" in their approach allowing you to feel as though the logan was essentially your own place. they did arrange zip lining and other activities for us at our request but were easy going at all times and didn't pressure us in any way. the tour companies they recommended were excellent.

samara is a wonderful destination. a small town without north american chain stores or restaurants. refreshingly so. very swimmable beach lined with small local restaurants , bars, surf schools. no large hotel developments on the beach. beautiful sunsets.

      we hope to return asap.

      Piece of Paradise

Left on 02/29/2012 for a stay in February 2012

The Logan is a beautifully thought out 4-plex condo that gives you simplistic and eco friendly accommodations with a touch of chiqueness. Monique and Quin met us there and were very helpful. The location is idea - dead end road with the jungle on one side of the Logan, easy walk to beach and grocery store, but didn't have any issue with traffic noises etc. The blender by the pool chopped up wonderful drinks, the air conditioning at night was a great treat and you could easily have hours drift by while you read on the balcony or sit in the pool. We were there as a couple and the other three units were rented by a goup of friends. Although the ideal situation would be either all separate travellers or renting the whole 4 units with friends/family, we found it easy to mingle around the pool with the other guests and there was a common sense of respect for everyone's need for privacy. We would totally rent again under the same conditions.

Only downside is that the accommodations to the "non jungle" side are very close and if there are noisy people renting you have a clear view of each others balcony's and can hear every word of their conversation. However, we found that was the perfect time to grab our towels and head to the ocean.

Overall - excellent place, excellent hosts and a place that we would highly recommend.

Best value for a luxury oasis in Samara

Left on 02/27/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We were very lucky to find out about the Logan from friends. It's a beautifully designed oasis straight from the pages of a magazine. It's what an eco vacation in Costa Rica should be: lush gardens, salt water pool, tropical birds & monkeys in the jungle beside the property.

The location is a short easy walk to the beach, restaurants, supermarkets, and shopping, yet it's at the end of a quiet secluded feeling street. We took advantage of the the nearby market and got fresh seafood and produce straight from local growers, which we cooked at our apartment. Each unit has its own full kitchen and outdoor dining table.

The owners of the property were very obliging, and even helped us with local activities like a zip lining tour and a fantastic small group outing to a secluded beach - complete with transportation, watching the sun set, and BBQ dinner under the stars. We've found paradise and will definitely return for another stay at the Logan.

The best place to stay in Samara!

Left on 02/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011

The Logan was perfect - modern, clean, well-maintained, and gorgeous. We swam in the saltwater pool everyday. The lounge set-up by the pool is prefect for soaking up the sun or having friends over for happy hour or a night cap.
The location is perfect too - only a minutes walk to the grocery store, a bakery, and the liquor store. Roughly a three minute walk to the beach. Totally do not need a rental car, everything is walkable. The fact that it's surrounded by jungle was amazing; waking up to the sound of birds and monkeys was awesome.
Monika and Quinn are fantastic hosts, very attentive to detail and helpful with suggestions for activities to do in the area. They checked in on us periodically to make sure we were happy and Monika was a huge help after I'd chipped it while surfing - the dentist she sent me to made my tooth look perfect, for way cheaper than what I would have had to pay in Canada. Get your dental work done in CR!
Best to change your USD to Colons, the conversion is easy. Amazing food in Samara: go to El Lagarto for amazing grilled seafood, chicken and steak, Al Manglar for authentic Italian, and we hit up Vela Latina several times for good food and happy hour. Vela threw a great New Years Eve beach bash too.
We're already planning our next visit back to The Logan, it doesn't get any better than this!

It's an easy ten minute walk to the most beautiful swimmable beach; Samara is a bustling little town where palm trees provide shade and a choice of restaurants to provide chairs if you have a drink or a snack. We loved the Logan and Samara, and hope to go back soon!

The Logan is a unique, private, perfectly located lodge in Samara, Costa Rica.
After flying all night, we arrived in Libera Costa Rica. We jumped in a little rental car and hit the road. Having never been to Costa Rica we were amazed by the primitiveness. It's a jungle! When we got to Samara, the first thing we noticed was a lack of street signs. We found the Logan by asking non-english speaking locals where it was. Being the newest lodge in town nobody knew. We happened across a map and finally found this little jewel. We were met by Quin, the owner, and were given a personal tour of the facility. It's clean, modern, private and well equipped. We stayed for nine days and had the pleasure of meeting several other travelers, but mostly were able to enjoy the private pool and little bar area all to ourselves. The saltwater pool and outdoor shower really hit the spot as it is hot and humid. Each day we would walk into town and enjoy the local cuisine. Every thing we needed was just a block or two away. The Logan is off the main and busy street, but still close enough to everything that we never used the rental car.
My feelings about the Logan are totally positive. There was never a moment we wished we were at a different location. It was a perfect place to stay during a perfect vacation.

Left on 05/05/2011 for a stay in April 2011

If there was ever a hidden gem in an already tropical dream location; the Logan would be it. A place ful of wonderful choices and endless comfort. Never have I swam in a pool quite like it. When my wife and I were asked by the locals where we were staying, we said "The Logan". it was as if we had suddenly become part of their family...free drinks!
Thank you guys, A new Benchmark.

I loved staying there and enjoyed the location, adjoining the forest but within a short walk of the main area of Playa Samara. It was definitely a find and to be repeated.

      Absolutely Fantastic

Left on 04/14/2011 for a stay in March 2011

The Logan is nestled away from the main roads and is surrounded by trees. It's quiet and comfortable with all of the modern amenities you may need, A/C, ceiling fans, coffee maker, dish washer.

Monika and Quinn greeted us on arrival and were very easy to get a hold of when we had any questions. There is a telephone in the room you can use to make local calls which was great for calling Monika and Quinn or any local business' for information or reservations.

Hanging out by the pool and reading a book with drink in hand was blissful.

We stayed for a week and the only recommendation we would make is to get a cleaning service to come in sweep the floors (beach sand :))and take out the garbage. We would go back in a second and if we can pull off some vacation time around xmas, we will be back there for sure!

The most luxurious accommodation in Samara

Left on 03/17/2011 for a stay in February 2011

My wife and I stayed for 9 days in Feb. It was so beautiful and relaxing. The pictures doesn't do it justice!! Very comftable and relaxing staying there. It is in a perfect location. Quiet and only 90 second walk to the beach. Also there is a bakery 30 seconds away and also the largest grocery store just 2 min away. All by walking. You do not need to rent a car staying here. You will love hanging out by the pool and tiki hut having cocktails an enjoying the beautiful sun!! I have gone to Costa Rica a dozen times and this is one of my favorite beach and also the logging as well. A must stay!!! You will never forget your time here. I will definitely return to the Logan!!! Thanks. Also the owners Quinn and Monika are so helpful. They will tell you everything you need to know( places to eat , secluded beaches and waterfalls. The bed and couch is so comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. Make sure to buy fresh seafood and BBQ by the pool.

The Logan - Short for Languid Costa Rican Luxury

Left on 03/03/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Defy anyone to find a better value for the money! Perfect setting. Less than a 3 minute walk to the beach, central location, quiet street. The surrounding tropical forest and its wildlife provide the hotel with a cheerfully lyrical element, a reminder that you are far, far away.

This feeling is reinforced architecturally. The hotel's linear design and alluring symmetry seem to slightly sedate senses and relaxingly coax tensions to unwind. The finishing materials also manage this effect, a gently rooted balance between structure and land.

The functionality of design is best witnessed in the use of outdoor space within the courtyard. Centered around the pool which is, undoubtedly, the best pool I have ever experienced! Natural stone tile (river rock), seating around the perimeter, 4 levels, perfect depth, salt water, beautiful teal colour... the temperature... ahhh!!! Worth the stay just for that.

Not to mention the tiki hut, bar fridge, bbq... and the lounge areas... very, very well thought out. It's this common area that really separates this place. Perfect use of space, private and public all at once.

The care of attention afforded details is not lost anywhere, least of all within each of the 4 units. The spaces are elegant & functional at the same time. Straight out of the pool or in a three piece suit, the materials and furnishings accommodate. Comfortable, pretty, slick, contemporary, hip, functional and fun.

Finally, the approach in management is also to be commended. The owners were attentive, helpful, available, reliable, fun, informative, easy going, knowledgeable, generous and kind. Whatever you might need, you needn't look any further; including a hands off approach so that you can simply enjoy your holiday in peace, privacy & elegance.

Worth every penny, going back for sure, would recommend it to anyone, made my trip!!!

      Thank you to The Logan!!!

The benefits of being the inaugural guests come with their perks. This place was gorgeous, clean and super comfortable, waking up to the sounds of the jungle and listening to the ocean waves during the stillness of the night. We had the whole place to ourselves, but we realized this was the perfect set up to travel with 1, 2 or 3 other couples. We could rent the whole place out and chill in our private little paradise with close friends or new friends.

This place is a definite must stop if you're heading to this part of Costa Rica

What am amazing place! Brand new construction, super clean minimalist design. Fantastic pool and landscaping. There is nothing like this hotel in Samara or any of the surrounding beach towns. Professionally managed with gorgeous rooms, stylish furniture, fine linens and great security. I will definitely be back!!! 5 Stars.

      a perfect samara home!

Left on 02/25/2011 for a stay in February 2011

The Logan is beautiful. I will definitely stay there again the next time I am in Samara. It is a rare combination of tranquility, convenience, eco-consciousness, and high-end design. My husband and I stayed in the Verde suite and enjoyed waking up to the sounds of the jungle, drinking coffee on the loungers outside, having a quick swim in the salt-water pool, and then walking down to the beach. We cooked breakfast in the suite most mornings and tried lots of different places in town for dinners. Its easy to walk everywhere from the Logan. The beds were very comfortable and the suite had everything we needed. Quinn and Monika were amazing hosts. The Logan is everything they describe it to be, with everything you need as a home-base from which to explore the area. Our expectations were high and The Logan exceeded them. This was our 3rd trip to Samara and the best accomodations we have found yet. There is nothing else like this in Samara! It is a great place for couples and I can imagine that it would be an amazing place for a group to share.
