Poipu Shores Resort in located on the lee side of Kauai. We have the coolling trade winds from the back of the property through the resort and out to the ocean. This also creates the weather conditons that give us the "Sunny South Side". Our location is almost exactly the same as Waikiki is on Oahu. Being direct oceanfront, gives you daily viewing opportunities of our families of green sea turtles. November to April give you whale sightings from your lanai.

Recently, a number of clergy friends and I, desperate for a quick mini-retreat, booked Unit 305a at Poipu Shores Condos. Each of us needed time alone and time together to heal. When we walked in the door of the condo and onto the lanai, we knew we had found the perfect place. We had made arrangements for the cupboards to be stocked, so that when we arrived, we could sit and quietly contemplate the physical beauty of the Shores as well as the comfort and convenience of our suite.
The ocean soothed jangled nerves almost immediately. In fact, for several hours we four sat out on the lanai not speaking, but absorbing the extraordinary topography, the roar of the ocean on the lava rocks, and the orange-and-pink sunset. We began to feel ease and comfort creep into our very being.
Our home, for that is what we called the condo, was perfect. We had everything we needed and a lot of things we didn't, especially the TV! We sang together instead of separating out with iPods and iPads. In fact, we had all brought all of our technology, but only used them to read or research things we wanted to know about the island. The weather cooperated with us throughout the visit. Several times a day we were treated with rainbows and we faithfully took those pictures and posted them on Facebook. Close to everything, we felt no need to go far afield for supplies or a night out dining. We found the ice cream store/bakery on our first evening and indulged ourselves several times.
Patricia went out of her way to make us feel welcome and attend to our needs, even giving us directions to the best zip-lining service on the island. She visited us twice to make sure all was going well. She was an extraordinary hostess as well as manager.
We four have booked this condo again this year and next, four months later. We would not consider going elsewhere. We each returned home renewed and refreshed, only wishing that everyone could have this same experience. Aloha and mahalo. -

2nd stay at Poipu Shores 305a and again a great visit. The view from the lanai is unforgettable. You can see the beach and park but the best view are the rocks and ocean just in front of you. The waves crash on the rocks outside your room and you can watch turtles just off the rocks and whales further out. The rooms are nice with cable and premium channels in the living room. You need to look for them but they are there. The internet has been upgraded to about 5 Mbps and it comes with the room. Beach gear include chairs, umbrella, cooler and a boogie board. Still not air conditioned but with the trade winds it stayed cool. We looked at other condo's that cost less but the location and view keep us coming back.

You can't get any better location than Poipu Shores. Once you have stayed here, you will not be happy anywhere else. Patricia goes out of her way to help make your experience the best that it can possibly be. She is so easy to work with and very accomodating to returning guests! The condo has everything you need; its just like being at home...only better. The view is the best part.

Poipu Shores is located directly on the ocean. The sounds of the constant waves breaking on the rocks was relaxing. There is no aC, which worried us at first, but it wasn't needed because of the cooling breezes flowing through the unit. It is within an easy walk to the beach and is comfortably furnished with a nice layout. We heard no sounds from neighbors through the walls while we there. Service is great - we hope to stay there again one day!

We are always grateful to our guests who travel the long road to Kauai from the east coast. Thank you for the comments about the AC, with the trade winds, open windows and fans, we think it eliminates the need for this. Given that we have the highest electric rates in America and the fact that our home is built to take advantage of the winds, we appreciate that you felt is was not necessary. Being close to Poipu Beach Park is one of the fabulous things about Poipu Shores. Thanks for mentioning the lack of noise from neighbors, the condo is built to withstand hurricanes, not like many hotels and condos that I have stayed in myself.

I did a lot of research before making our first trip to Hawaii. Poipu Shores 305a "appeared" to have every thing we wanted. As it turned out there was everything and more. We loved the location, the incredible
views and the sound of the ocean right next door. If we wanted to get involved in big resort activity it was just a short walk right or left along the beach. There are very good restaurants within five minutes.or a short walk. Patricia was was a joy to meet and went out of her way to

This place was absolutely just as it is shown...Perfect accomodations for 2 couples with all the accessories required to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We were even personally greeted by Patricia which was a lovely personal touch. An Oceanfront view like nothing else...Beautiful sunsets with the whales performing daily and an abundance of turtles just below scrambling for rock territory. It doesn't get any better than this. Air con certainly was not missed with the ocean breezes coming in through the windows and the sound of the surf made you realize you were really on vacation. Lovely location and we personally loved Casa Di amica restaurant recommended by Patricia...and it's within walking distance. We will not hesitate to come back here...

A very nice place on the south shore of Kauai. The sun sets, front and center of your lanai every night as you look out over the ocean and waves crashing on the rocks in front of you. We watched the turtles feed and the whales breach from the Lanai. The room is well furnished and comfortable. It comes with washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat screen TV and stereo/I-pod doc. It is 2 bedrooms with a king and 2 twins in the back bedroom. The front bedroom has an ocean view but the back bedroom windows open to the access corridor for the floor. This bedroom is usually the coolest as the wind will usually come in from that side. The beach is a short walk or drive and except for weekends there appears to be plenty of close parking if you don’t want to walk. The onsite pool is nice. There is no aC but the trade-winds usually keep it livable. There are fans (ceiling and floor) if the trades let up and you need to move some air. The condo complex is not too large and is usually quiet except for the sound of the crashing waves on the rocks out side your window. There are BBQ’s on the ground floor and you can smell the BBQ at times. The unit has beach chairs, a beach umbrella, cooler and a boogie board. The Wifi is not very fast. It tested at 1 Mbps so it will be hard to download a movie if you want to, but it is free which is nice. The unit is next to the elevator for easy access but the pool is not accessible from the elevator.

Poi’pu shores also offers castle rentals. (Castle rentals work like a hotel so you are not guaranteed a specific room). Renting 305a from the owner ensures you get this unit. -

We stayed here in august and absolutely loved the condo, the location was great! The ocean is right at the lanai and you can just feel the weight of the world go away with each crashing wave! Also, sleeping to the sound of the ocean was great! The condo had beach umbrellas, cooler, chairs & books to borrow and all the pots & pans and little things you think you might need. The service was impeccable, Thomas was very courteous and nice! The condo was very clean and very comfortable, definately a deluxe retreat! It's in a perfect location on the island as well, walking distance to the beach and restaurants, my favorite was Casa di amici, great food and service!
This was my favorite vacation of all time and can't wait to go again! This was my 5th trip to Hawaii & the Best!

A great location literally just yards from the ocean. Sit on the balcony for breakfast and watch turtles, dolphins, and birds play over the ocean.
At suset, grab a glass of wine, your loved ones and bask in the afterglow of a great day in Poipu.
It has everything you need for a stay on the Garden Island. The kitchen is outfitted well. There is laundry in the unit (a key element given kids). There are coolers, beach chairs, kid toys, small fish nets to use on your outings.
The complex has a pool perched on the cliff and from the deck you can watch the sea life frolic. It also has barbeque stations where you can meet other vacationers and share tips of where to go. Most of the other guests are family oriented, friendly and very down to earth.
Patricia and Tom a fantastic owners with a great beach front condo. We have stayed two years in a row and plan to try to repeat yearly. Highly, highly recommended.

This was our second time staying at Poipu Shores, our first time in this unit with these owners. After our stay in 305a, it will always be our choice on a return visit. Communication with the owners was very easy via phone or email and they were always extremely prompt with their responses. The location of the Poipu Shores complex is perfect, and 305a even more perfect. The unit was spacious, clean and well maintained; it had everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay. It was very easy to reach the gentleman who is the caretaker when we needed help with something and he too was prompt in his response. The unit and the kitchen was complete with just about anything you'd need, plenty of utensils, dishes, cups, glasses, pots and pans, coffee maker, etc. The furnishings were very comfortable and we slept soundly, falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the lava right outside our windows.
The location of the unit within the Poipu Shores complex is fabulous, quite private and close to the end of the complex where we had our own personal "Spouting Horn". At times the waves would crash before us almost 3 stories high, it was wonderful. We saw beautiful rainbows, many sea turtles and passing dolphin from our lanai. Our 1st choice on a return visit would be this unit. The views from 305a were spectacular. We highly recommend renting from these owners who have several units available; you won't be disappointed.
Oh yes, one regret...we only stayed for a week.
Within the Poipu Shores complex itself, which is not one of the huge complexes available throughout the islands, there are wheelchair ramps and elevators. The complex itself is well maintained.
Thanks for a wonderful, relaxing, memorable stay. We hope to get back there again sooner rather than later!

Had a great time at Poipu Shores unit 305a. View is amazing! Lots of turtles everywhere. Good location.
Good communication from the owners and no issues... they have it down. Would use them again and would stay in this unit again.
Parking spots are small and some are hard to get into (but that is true almost everywhere in hi).
An added plus... no roosters on the property to wake you up before you are ready (some of the large hotels have an issue with this).

This was our first trip to Kauai and we are very glad we chose this unit. The location is great. It's close enough to walk to sandy beaches. Absolutely one of the best vacations our family has has ever taken. We have been to both Disney parks, Europe, and Mexico, but this was one of our favorite places. The turtles, the beaches, the hikes, and snorkeling were great. We agree with all the fabulous reviews that other guests before us wrote in the journal that is in the condo and we added our own experience to the chain.

What's not to like? I recently returned to Kauai for my second trip in 3 years bringing both my parents and college aged daughter. We looked at all of the islands and decided Kauai and Poipu were our first choice. We selected Poipu Shores "site unseen" and were very happy with this unit. This unit has a large patio and full ocean view from the master bedroom. We had difficultly leaving the balcony each morning to go play for the day. The ocean view and breezes keep the unit comfortable. The waves crashing on the rocks is also great for sleeping, but a word of caution sometimes waves exiting rocky crevices can make loud noises waking those people sleeping in the master suite. (This unit is that close to the water) The back bedroom is on the garden side and the lovely trees and plants along with some nightly rain actually make this room idea for sleeping. We used the swimming pool almost every day. It was never crowded and again provided a full ocean front with great views, especially at sunrise and sunset. The condo was clean, the location was great with a short walk to several beaches ideal for snorkeling or body surfing. Plenty of markets nearby and large grocery stores within a short drive, allowing us to stock the unit's full size refrigerator with food we needed for our stay. We found the in unit washer and dryer very useful for keeping the swimming towels clean and dry. The kitchen was stocked with standard supplies allowing us to use the stove and the BBQ grills located on site. The stove was a little old and the BBQ grills are gas - causing us charcol users a few challenges, especially getting them lit. The only items we would change; would be a little bit more light around the dining room table and upgrading the kitchen stove. We do hope to return. We smile whenever we see a turtle, and think of the great time we had on our balcony watching them.

The stove is being replaced, but it is a "vintage" size and some reworking will have to be done :( on the cabinets. We will put in brighter lights over the dining table.

Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our ten days here. This was our third trip to this condo. The location is prefect and the nearby beaches are fantastic. Close to shopping and restaurants (some within walking distance). This condo is on the third floor, so sitting on the lanai is fabulous as you can watch the turtles and dolphins and beautiful sunsets.
The condo is furnish great and all the amenities you would ever need. Newly remodeled and up to date with very modern things.

For us, this condo is the perfect alignment of location, function and price. You are literally on the ocean, or at least just 20-30 ft above it. You can watch whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and sunsets from your balcony, as well as what's going on at the boogie boarding and swimming/snorkeling beaches a short walk from the property. You can hike along the shore in either direction. The master bedroom looks out over the ocean and into the crystal clear starlit Hawaii nights. The unit has everything you need for a home away from home. The condominium complex is small enough so it's quiet, yet has most amenities like a pool overlooking the ocean and gas grills for cooking out. All of this for a very reasonable price.

We are very dismayed and saddened by this review. The good news is that the staff during that time has been fired and our right hand man on Kauai who had moved to the mainland has returned. Cleanliness returns.
We hope that the guest did enjoy the views and other amenities we offer.
We are not sure who the staff was that was not friendly, as our cleaners are only there when called to the condo or cleaning our other condo units. Caslte Resort staff is always on the property.

We stayed here 25 years ago and can't believe it is just as we remembered it. Of course, the condo has been beautifully renovated, but it remains one of the most beautiful places on earth. What a spectacular setting. Everything is just breath-taking. Friends staying at an upscale timeshare they own, spent a sunset with us and said this would have changed their decision. You will absolutely love this place and the owners are unbelievably gracious. Enjoy!

Beautiful oceanfront condo! We loved our stay there. The key thing about this condo is that it's at a great location. It's about a five minute leisure beach walk to the Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach. Also The Marriott and Sheration is a short walk from the condo if you want to enjoy the resort style service at the restaurant or bar Great view of the sunsets from the balcony!

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Cannot beat the location or the view and the decor was beautifully done. Patricia (our host) has the interior decorator's touch. She was delightful also. The oceanfront pool overlooks a rocky bay filled with sea turtles - the perfect place to relax and unwind. There is a great boogie boarding beach, a park and a children's beach a short walk down the coast. Don't miss Brennecke's Restaurant or Shipwreck Beach while you're there.

We stayed at Poipu shores for a week in October. The condo was very well appointed and had a balcony right on the water. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well appointed, and there was nothing that we needed to buy except our food and drinks. The pool was also very nice.
This home is situated a few steps away from very nice public beach and park. It's quiet, yet within a close distance to everything you'd want.
The best part of the stay was spending time on the balcony watching the sea turtles, and the surf on the rocks below. We even saw an Orca.
I would recommend this home to anyone wishing to stay in Poipu Beach. When we go back to Kauai, we will definitely stay here again.Response from Patricia Biehn - 05/14/2011

We have visited Kauai 4 times and have found Unit 305A at Poipu Shores provided our best vacation experience. The location in sunny Poipu is now the only place we will consider for our next visit. It can be overcast and misting rain on other parts of the island, but is almost always sunny in Poipu. There are great beaches within walking distance, good snorkeling nearby, restaurants galore, everything you could want or need is close to your condo.
The condo itself is beautifully appointed in every way - from the tasteful decor to the well equipped kitchen. The owners have provided for your every need whether it be cooking your favorite meal or taking off for the beach. It's the best equipped condo we have ever stayed in. Patricia has anticipated your every desire.
About the view - From enjoying our morning coffee to dinner on the lanai, the ocean view with the sound of waves crashing on the rocks below cannot be surpassed. The sunsets are fabulous too.
Our 7 a.m. walk each morning out the back way from the condo was a wonderful way to start the day.
The grounds of Poipu Shores are beautifully maintained with lovely tropical plants for all to enjoy. The ample parking and elevators are a plus too.
I would highly recommend Unit 305A for any discerning guest who appreciates quality for what we consider to be reasonable rates.

This is the most beautiful spot on the planet in the most luxurious condo imaginable! The view of the ocean - watching the dolphins, turtles and even an occasional glimpse of a whale from your very own lanai - is like heaven on earth. From morning coffee to watching the sunset, you are tempted to stay put, but activities like the short walk to Poipu Beach, the beautiful drive through Waimea Canyon, and exploring the Napali Coast ensure plenty of outdoors play.
