Additional Location Information
Don’t be misled by large “Oceanfront” resorts where your room is actually blocks from the water. This is the real thing: Hawaii’s Garden Island of Kauai at its best! Kuhio Shores is on it's own little peninsula surrounded by Blue Pacific Ocean, surfers and Sea Turtles. "If it was any closer to the water, you’d need a boat". Directly out front of your lanai is Kauai’s premier surfing and snorkeling spots. Five additional beaches are located within walking distance, as are golf courses, tennis, restaurants, shopping and the spectacular Spouting Horn blow hole.

The Bassett's
Princeton, NJPerfect way to start and end your day in an island of paradise!
Left on 05/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Rick & Kathy's condo (#316) in Kuhio Shores is stunning! True, you spend the majority of your day exploring the island but during those few moments of downtime, you'll be happy you get to put your feet up here.
The interior is just beautiful with no detail left behind. The kitchen has everything you'll need (fridge w/ water & ice, coffee maker, blender, cutlery, silverware, dishes, etc.) so make sure you reserve some nights to eat in! The bathroom/shower is immaculate. You also have access to plenty of bath towels & beach towels. The sitting area comes with plenty of seating (+ the stools for the kitchen counter). We found the main sofa (which is also a pull-out bed) to be plenty.
The real star of the interior is the bedroom! King-size bed (comfortable too), lots of storage for your clothing (though in Kaua'i, you really don't need much!), and of course - the luxury of waking up and falling asleep to the ocean waves every single day. Bliss.
Floor to ceiling windows mean ocean front heaven. You'll be bragging to friends/family for years to come. The windows and screen door to the lanai let in a nice breeze too.
The lanai is a real treat as well. You're three floors up, steps away from the water. All you see is ocean... and sea turtles, whales, dolphins, surfers :). We enjoyed our morning coffee out on the lanai and even a few dinners out there during sunsets.
Out on the lanai you'll also find some beach gear (everything you need & more), a cooler (perfect for picnics or a sunset dinner on the beach), and some chairs for sitting on the lanai.
The Kuhio Shores complex has a small laundry facility on each floor (in the center by the elevators). Machines work just fine and you can buy detergent/fabric softener in coin machines (though.. they were out of order during our stay).
Above all, Rick & Kathy are a pleasure to work with. Absolutely no complaints there! We highly recommend this condo and hope you have the opportunity to take it all in!

CardiffAn absolutely Incredible Place To Stay!
Left on 12/14/2012 for a stay in November 2012
This was a very special trip for my fiancé and I since I proposed to her outside of the Beach House next door to Kuhio Shores. The Honeymoon Suite was incredibly romantic and we were able to watch the turtles swim in on the waves while sitting on the deck with the most incredible views. The suite is very gorgeous and the décor is outstanding. We were supplied with all of the beach toys we needed and the amenities were anything you would ever need. Two thumbs way up for this special suite!

San Diego, CAPhenominal Vacation Condo
Left on 12/10/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My husband and I stayed in unit 316, the Honeymoon Suite for 6 nites. From the minute we opened the front door, we were awestruck. The condo was beautifully decorated island style, kitchen was perfect and fully stocked for cooking whatever my husband desired-(he's the cook), the king size bed had 800 thread count linens and nice pillows(important to me)and the bathroom was perfect-I loved the river rock shower! Alot of relaxing time was spent w morning coffee and evening cocktails on the lanai, watching the sea turtles and surfers, listening to the surf and feeling the warm tradewinds. We had the best time ever and plan on going back soon!

PhiladelphiaA let down after our magical North Shore rental
Left on 11/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We spent 6 days here after having spent 9 days in a unique, art-full house on a 3-acre, gorgeous, gardened compound all to ourselves, situated next to a rushing stream near Hanalei on the North Shore--so we had a little culture shock and felt a bit cramped in this condo. Two things to know about Kuhio Shores: 1) it's not airconditioned and there is no cross breeze (unless you have a corner unit, which this one isnt) because of the condo layout. So, it was extremely hot, humid, and stuffy with fans that didn't really help much. 2) it's extremely noisy all the time from the surf crashing on the rocks outside, so when you open the doors to the lanai to try to catch a breeze, you can't hear one another talk inside, you can't hear the TV, and the sound is not relaxing waves lapping along a beach-- it's more like a freight train with waves crashing into volcanic rocks. Seeing the surfers every morning was fun, though. And we did see some turtles.
The bathroom is terribly small--hardly room to lay your toothbrush and comb; the smallest we've ever had in any place we've ever stayed. It also wasn't real clean, so we cleaned it. Only 2 towels were provided with only 1 hand towel, which seemed quite chintzy. We wound up washing towels during our stay in the laundry room down the hall. No beach towels were provided. We did appreciate having a cooler and beach chairs for use; we brought our own snorkel stuff, so didn't pay attention to whether that was provided. The kitchen is sufficiently equipped. Living room sofa isn't too comfortable to sit on--it may look cute in the photos, but not made for comfort. All the mirrors in the place make the space look much bigger in photos than it is in person.
That said, we didn't spend much time there as we went out hiking, snorkeling, visiting atherton gardens, Waimea canyon, and other places. The Grove Homestead is a realy gem, too. Kuhio Shores locationis very convenient. We just didn't find this a peaceful place to return to at the end of the day. Next time, we'll look for a house rental with cross ventilation or a/C and a gentler ocean sound. -

Pickering, Ontario#316 is the Cadillac of suites at Kuhio Shores
Left on 02/20/2012 for a stay in February 2012
The decorating in this condo is outstanding, it's obvious a lot of work and money went into making this a beautiful "Tiki room". Everything in this condo is first class, there is even a wine aerator for the wine connoisseurs. The floor to ceiling windows allow a great view of the whales spouting, and the waves on the rocks below lulled us to sleep each night.
The location is also great, there is snorkeling just steps away right in the bay, and a few steps the other way is the Beach House restaurant which is one of the best in Poipu. The main Poipu beach is only a short drive, as is Poipu Bay golf course.
We'd definitely recommend this condo as a luxury stay for anyone wanting to be in the Poipu area

Left on 06/24/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This condo has an amazing ocean view and takes your breath away when you first enter! It only gets better... The condo is beautifully decorated and stocked with all the amenities you could need. You will go to sleep every night hearing the ocean waves crashing outside and you will wake up to sea turtles and surfers outside your window!
This condo is in an ideal location, as it is steps from the beach as well as walking distance to shops, restaurants, and Spouting Horn.
The rental process is simple and went smoothly prior to and during our stay. I highly recommend Kuhio Shores 316! -

seattle, waRomantic Spot!
Left on 03/21/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We loved this wonderfully decorated condo that is in a fabulous location right on the water. There is a small beach within walking distance and the wonderful Beach House restaurant right next door. You can see both the sunrises and sunsets from the balcony and they are beautiful. The interior of the condo is spotless! The only downside that I can think of is that there is no a/C which for temperature is fine as the window opens for the breeze, however, because of the open windows the ocean can be pretty loud when you are trying to sleep. For many people this may not be an issue, but I"m a light sleeper and the sound made my sleep disturbed. That is the only noise you will hear though as this complex is very quiet. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the condo and I'm a very picky traveller.

Free Union, VAKnockout Condo!
Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We have now stayed at 3 Kuhio Shores condos. All of them have the fantastic view, mere steps from roaring surf. And each one has its charms. But, boy oh boy, #316 is the Taj Mahal of Kuhio Shores Condominiums! There are sliding screens to the bedroom -- slide them back and you can watch the surf (and whales in the wintertime) from your bed. The decor is outstanding. Rick and Kathy are a pleasure to do business with, too. Have a look at the pictures on this site, and you'll see what I mean about the unique decor.

Left on 10/03/2010 for a stay in May 2010
What a great location, next to a five star restraurant (BeachHouse) and close to wonderful beaches. Lots of surfers & sea tutles to watch right from the lanai. Very clean and great kitchen setup. We lived on the lanai and you couldn't get any closer to the ocean unless you were on a boat. Clear and friendly arrangements made it easy to rent. All communications were prompt and informative. We had a great time.

Left on 09/30/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We had a most enjoyable week celebrating our 30th anniverary. The condo is beautiful. We spent hours sitting on the lanai watching the sea turtles swimming in the waves below and enoying the surfers. Our bed was quite comfortable and listening to the waves crashing was heavenly. We can't wait to go back!!!

Left on 09/29/2010 for a stay in March 2010
Beautiful, very well maintained unit. The furniture is in excellent condition, comfortable bed, the kitchen and bathroom were very clean and up to date. We enjoyed watching the surfers and sea turtles from the balcony. The location is also excellent. Kauai has variable weather but the sun was always shining at Kuhio Shores! We would absolutely come back and have recommended this unit to friends who are considering travel to Kauai.
