Description from the owner
Our oceanfront Condo is larger than most one bedrooms at Kuhio Shores and is as close as you can possibly get to the waters edge. The resort is surrounded on three sides by the ocean in a location famous for surfing, snorkeling, and sunsets!
Best of all, our condo is on the ground level so you can walk out directly on the lawn and be surrounded by ocean, sky and surf. The lanai is a great place to lounge and soak up the sun and ocean breeze. Or to just watch the waves, birds, porpoises, turtles, whales, and surfers.
The Kuhio Shores resort is on the sunny south shore of Poipu Beach and is small and quiet. It extends out into the o...Read more

You own a little piece of paradise!! We arrived here from Maui and after being here for a day wished we had spent less time there and more time here!
Your condo is lovely - tastefully furnished and decorated. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen and comfortable bed!
We really enjoyed snorkeling in the bay next door - next to the Beach House restaurant - so many fish. We also loved eating breakfast on the lanai and watching the whales and surfers put on a morning show.
Our time here was too short but we hope to return.

Jack and Dorinda,
Thank you so much for all the amenities here in this lovely condo! We have enjoyed rainbows (a double), the Beach House restaurant, snorkeling, sunning (but not too much), and a wonderful 2 hour tour at the National Botanical Garden, which is so convenient to the condo. The sunsets were great. Really enjoyed watching the turtles and surfers! We would love to come back soon!

Aloha,
Our stay here at Kuhio Shores fulfilled a 10 year dream to visit the garden island of Kauai. The experience we have had here on Kauai and in Jack & Dorinda's home has surpassed our high hopes and expectations. We followed many of the suggestions outlined in The Ultimate Guide to Kauai and we were very pleased with the guidance this book offered us. So many of the great things to do have already been previously listed by others, but we would add a visit to Kipu Falls (you've got to jump!), the National Tropical Gardens (gardeners, take the alerton Garden Tour - it's great!) and you must snorkel or swim with the many turtles directly behind the lanai (the surf is rough - but it's well worth it. Begin at Baby Beach and go with the tide to Lawai Beach). We never thought we'd see the day that we would say, "oh no, now we have to go to Maui." Thanks for everything Jack & Dorinda. -

What an incredible and beautiful place. The snorkeling was out of this world. So great to swim with the turtles and watch the whales. The reef fish are just incredible and what a great condo. We felt like home without the freezing weather. Just a wonderful vacation. We hope that someday we will return. I just can't say enough about your wonderful spot in paradise. Thank you! Aloha!!

aloha,
I am writing on the last evening of our trip. We are going to the Beach House tonight to celebrate my birthday today. Right now we are on the lanai watching turtles as we have every evening.
This was a trip of firsts for us both - first time in Hawaii, first time snorkeling (we loved it), first time seeing a whale (out front), first time in a helicopter (Air Kauai was great!), first time ziplining (Princeville Ranch on the North Shore - very, very fun), bought our first real piece of art - right in Koloa, first time leaving our 3 girls (that part was hard). We also spent a lot of time relaxing in front of the ocean and you truly have a slice of paradise here. It is our 15th anniversary, ad this is the honeymoon we never had. Mahalo for letting us share your beautiful place here at Kuhio Shores. We will definitely recommend it to our friends!

We loved it! Your condo is wonderful and the view is breathtaking! The lord led us to the right place to vacation and the right place to stay. We very much appreciated the way your place felt like a home away from home.
To share some of our experiences. Beach House Restaurant - wonderful experience. Smith's Tropical Paradise Luau - great! great! Waimea Canyon - beautiful, well worth the drive. National Tropical Botanical Gardens - it has a great variety of tropical plants, but not all native of this area, depends on what you are looking for. If you go to S.T.P. Luau there are a lot of plants to see there also. My husband used Brenneckes Beach for boogie boarding.
We are hoping to have a return visit someday -

Lovely oceanside condo. Large lanai we used for almost all meals and to watch the sunset, sea turtles, and surfers. Everything we needed (and more) was provided. Furnished nicely and very clean. Wish we could go every year!! Grills were provided in a common area - also a laundry. Beaches nearby, as well as a nice restaurant. A real winner.

Jack and Dorinda:
We had another wonderful vacation in paradise! Your condo is the best! We are so entertained right here in front that it's hard to venture too far. From sunrise to sunset we can just watch the sea turtles and the surfers. They had a surfing contest at P.K.s and some of the young surfers stayed next door. The snorkeling was best right in front of the Beach House and we saw so many fish!
Every evening we set out the beach chairs, which were included, and had "cocktail hour" watching the magnificent sunsets! What a relaxing vacation!
Right now we're enjoying fresh papaya and pineapple watching the surf, and we're blessed with a rainbow before we leave. Thanks again for the use of your condo. We can't wait to come back!

Dear Jack & Dorinda
We thought we lived in paradise - but you have us beat!! Where we live, surfers have to wear wetsuits all year long. We brought shoes we never wore - all one needs are shorts and flip-flops. Loved seeing Bethany Hamilton surf - she is truly inspiring. Really enjoyed allerton Gardens, Hindu Temple in Kapaa, Waimea Canyon, Blue marble trees, Garlic Shrimp, the loaded fries and farmers market in Koloa, learning about the hurricane and the history of Kauai. It was all a wonderful experience - made possible by you two!

We wanted to try something different from the hotel experience, an ability to shop the local groceries and markets to prepare our own foods. This vacation spot was the perfect place. Being on the ground floor gave us the ability to be so close to the water and a nice area to sit in the sun with amazing views. If you are looking for a romantic get away and want to save money by not eating out everynight then this is the place! There is a great restaurant walking distance away and the Sheraton Hotel is very close as well.

We loved your bed (terrific as advertised), your coffee pot, your internet hookup, the waves crashing right outside the door, and our daily walks to Spouting Horn. The Grand Slam of Golf is always a highlight - worth missing Thanksgiving at home for!
I met the owner of Gaylords while I was teaching a class for the Kauai quilt guild, so we decided to have our Thanksgiving dinner there. Her daughter, also a quilter, is owner-manager of the Hukilau Lauai in Kapaa - also good eats! They lived in Juneau and Fairbanks before coming here, so we had much in common.
We got a non-resident (short-timers) card at the Koloa Library and enjoyed their excellent section of books the whole time we were here. It's nice when you don't have to carry 3 weeks worth of reading material!

Jack & Dorinda,
Thank you so much for providing us with the great accomodation. What a view! This island was one of the favorite places I've visited - and therefore we had probably the best holiday of our lives! Surfers, sun, sea turtles, dolphins, sun, great food, great views, and many, many smiley happy people!
Recommendations to future guests:
Breakfast or burgers at Poipu Tropical Burgers. Hike the Kuilau Ridge Trail and go at least 10 min past the picnic table stop (nice easy hike). The coffee and coconut/mango ice cream at Laupert's. Harley's Ribs at the Coconut Market in Kapaa. Smile at everyone. Say hi and mahalo often! Relax. If you're lucky enough to be here - you're lucky enough!

What a lovely way to spend a week! Your Kauai home is the perfect place to enjoy your beautiful island. This is our 3rd trip to Kauai and we found your condo to be our favorite. We hope we can return. The view of the ocean from inside the condo is especially nice. And going to sleep at night with the sound of the ocean is a special treat. We saw turtles and a seal swimming past your condo. I do wish we had brought our binoculars - next time.
Your condo was especially comfortable and it had everything we needed. Thank you for providing such a warm and comfortable home for our Kauai stay.

We don't know how to begin to describe our trip and your awesome condo except to say wow!
We covered every corner of the island while we were here and never saw a spot we'd trade for Kuhio Shores. What a view! Your condo now feels like our home and we hate to be leaving it.
We look forward to our next visit and will certainly stay at your lovely condo again!
This was a perfect way to spend our 25th anniversary!

Wow!!! What a great place to get away from what seems to have been the longest winter with so much snow!!! We really enjoyed our first trip to Kauai and had fun each day exploring new beaches (Larsen's, Secret and Polihale) to hiking the nu'olola Trail in Waimea Canyon. We also really enjoyed the condo with the awesome sunsets and watching the surfers and turtles. It will be a trip we will always cherish.

aloha Jack & Dorinda,
It is 1 week into our vacation and I just want to thank you a million times for sharing this beautiful condo. We are having a blast. Right now I am laying out by the ocean and thinking I am in heaven.
This is our 3rd trip to Kauai with my big family. This time my husband and I wanted a place of our own. Everyone else is jealous.
So far we have hiked and enjoyed the Kalalau Trail. That was an adventure. Went horseback riding in Princeville. Golfing, snorkeling, sight seeing, kayaking, etc. Whale watching tour is tomorrow.
My dad has been certified as a Monk Seal protector. He ropes them off when they beach on shore. Right now he is off to the left bay roping one off with his Spz's (Seal Protective Zone).
We re definatly coming back here again.
Thanks again,

We had such a wonderful time. Your condo is amazing; the furnishings and extra are wonderful.
We felt like we did a lot here on Kauai. We took a helicopter ride, kayaked, saw the NaPali Coast, hiked, surfed and saw Waimea Canyon. Although this seems like a lot, we just scratched the surface of all the great things to do on this island.
Our activities were fun but we must admit that our favorite thing was eating dinner on the patio as we watched the turtles, waves, and the sunset.
We plan on returning next year! -

A wonderful condo with an amazing view. Although there are a number of dining options on the island, we chose to eat most meals on the back patio of our condo. No place on the island has a better view and relaxing environment. From this patio, we watched surfers, whales, dolphins and turtles. I could never get tired of the relaxing environment. This place is a winner!
