Phila. PAKuhio shores is a special place!
Left on 03/15/2013 for a stay in January 2013
The team at Great Vacation Retreats were a welcoming, efficient and knowledgeable group to work with. Kuhio Shores is a great location. If you don't like listening to the ocean don't stay there It's right on the ocean. The only way to get closer is to be in it! The condo had everything we needed-- storage for all our stuff, lots of cooking equipment, and a washer dryer. The furniture and bed were comfortable.

Boston, MALovely week in Kauai
Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in January 2013
The view from the lanai is amazing - we enjoyed our coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening almost every day! The space is really comfortable and fully stocked with key essentials such as beach towels, beach chair, umbrella, etc. The staff also prepared a nice bag of 'set up' goodies that saved us from having to run out to the store on Day 1. We had a problem with our internet connection half-way through the week and contacted the staff for help - they sent someone out to fix it by the time we returned later in the day. The rental property is located on a not-too-busy lane that was perfect for running/walking and is situated just a few buildings away from the Beach House, a great restaurant that has incredible views of the sunset. Book it!

My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay here. Kuhio Shores was a terrific location for the winter months (would probably go to the north shore in the summer, but then again I wouldn't travel to Hawaii in the summer). The snorkeling right outside was the best we experienced on the island and swimming with turtles, literally a stones throw from the lanai, was certainly one of the highlights of the trip.
The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Having a washer/dryer to our own was a fantastic feature. Didn't care for most of the decor. The kitchen worked out just fine. -

Ovreall, we loved our stay here b/c the location was fantastic. The view from the lanai was wonderful and you really could hear the waves from all over the unit. We saw sea turtles most days from the lanai. The unit was adequate meaning the kitchen and bathroom were definitely clean and all the things you would need were there. The washer and dryer in unit were great. As for the service - we didn't get much of a welcome but when the tub wasn't draining, they had someone out to fix out that day. The downsides: 1) Although the kitchen and bathroom were clean, some of the things in the bedroom had a thick coating of dust (lamps and fan) 2) The bedroom is hot despite 2 fans. There is not a breeze in there. We had a hard time the first night but then adjusted. 3) The elastic on bedsheets was worn out. Slightly annoying b/c we had to pull the fitted sheet down over the corners during the middle of the night. 4) Furniture on lanai didn't have cushions. Not comfortable. We just pulled a few chairs from inside out to lanai whenever we went out there. Maybe you get what you pay for. We got a great deal. The place was adequate and we were overall satisfied with the experience.

We had an amazing time Kuhio Shores #208. The place unit was clean and up to date. They thought of everything. Beach gear, organic soaps and shampoos, just to name a few. The view is glorious. We woke up to beautiful sunsets, and sea turtles every morning. My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary coming back to the island we had our honeymoon. We felt refreshed and renewed after our time in wonderful Kauai. We plan on coming back again, maybe with our kids this time. Thank you Carey for arranging this. We pray that all is well with you and your sweet family.

Kuhio Shores was everything we expected and more. The condo was clean and very comfortable - the owners had thought of everything we might need for our stay. We loved having our morning coffee on the balcony and watching the dolphins play. The sounds of the ocean waves at night was so peaceful. We slept like babies. :-) It is located next to one of the best restaurants on the island. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and we can't wait to go back. Mahalo!

Left on 05/12/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We chose this condo based in large part on the reviews we had read here at FlipKey and were very pleased with our decision. This is a smallish, well-appointed condo, perfect for two people, with unbelievable views of the ocean and its turtles.
Amy at GVR was great to work with -- responsive and flexible. I appreciated the fact that all check-in information was supplied by email in advance of our arrival, so we were able to go directly to the condo without having to stop at a rental office. Everything was clean and working properly upon our arrival.
The condo is well-stocked, from kitchen supplies and bathroom amenities to the much-appreciated beach supplies like chairs, towels, and snorkel gear. I defy you to find a closet or cabinet in this place that does not contain a stack of fresh towels and sheets! There was wired internet (not wi-fi) which worked fine and two cable TVs.
Our only complaint was the mattress, which is only a double and almost ridiculously soft. We sank right in, as if it was just a pillow and not a pillowtop. A mid-grade queen bed would be a big upgrade.
The building itself is fine. The ocean is obviously the attraction here, so amenities are limited to a small grassy area and a couple of grills, which are remotely located but good quality. Parking and self-registration are easy. The security staff was visible and friendly.
You'll also enjoy being between two beaches and adjacent to the Beach House Restaurant, which lives up to the hype and is reasonably priced considering the quality and location. There's not much nightlife, even by Kauai standards, but that was just fine with us. If you're looking to cook in the kitchen or on the grill before enjoying a quiet evening on the lanai, this is the place for you. -

Seattle, WAExceeded expectations!
Left on 03/28/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We were delighted with the accomodations at Kuhio Shores #208. It far exceeded our expectations in conveniences, amenities, and charming, comfortable decor and furnishings. From the large items like beach gear (chairs, coolers, umbrella, snorkel and boogie boards, etc.) to the smaller things like books on fish and hikes, the condo provided all and more!
The central location made visiting the east and west sides of Kauai very convenient. We enjoyed visiting all of the Botanical Gardens - two being quite close! And we enjoyed snorkeling at Poipu Beach and Salt Pond. Besides the many birds, seeing wildlife such as the monk seals on the beach and also the turtles added another dimension to our visit. -

We had a wonderful time at Kuhio Shores #208.
Location and view were terrific. Took our glass of wine down to the grass area each night and watched the sunset!
The unit was very well equip, kitchen and otherwise. It was nice to have a washer and dryer in the unit. The 'library of books' in the foyer was a nice touch! -

The booking process was easy with quick replies to all correspondence. The condo was great, very clean, well appointed, comfortable furniture. The little extras were a great surprise, (travel books, binoculars, snorkel equip, beach towels, picnic cooler, etc). There was more than enough supplies to last the week, lots of bath/hand towels and having the washer/dryer in the condo was a huge convenience!
Location was good, view was great, quiet area, not too far from grocery stores, etc. Restaurant next door was very good. Watched turtles in the water right in front of our condo.
The directions to the condo could be better, but luckily we arrived during the daytime and found it ok. Snorkeling in the area is great! It was a treat each evening to sit on the lanai with a glass of wine looking over the ocean. Enjoyed our stay so much that we have already booked in for 2 weeks next year! -

Left on 06/19/2009 for a stay in May 2009
We stayed in Kuhio Shores 208 for 13 nights in the end of May and beginning of June. Had a wonderful stay and are still missing Kauai! The unit has an awesome view of the ocean- it's like being at the beach without the sand! We watched the turtles from our lanai every day. Furnishings and queen bed are comfortable. The art work is lovely. The full kitchen has up to date appliances and is fairly well equipped for cooking. Loved having a washer and dryer in the unit.Beach chairs, towels, a cooler and snorkelling equipment is provided and really came in handy. The information Amy sent about car rentals, sunshine markets etc. was very helpful. We had to call her manager the first day with a few questions-she was great. Kuhio Shores is very well maintained and the grounds are lovely.Someone was always out working around the place keeping it neat and clean. Drawbacks- big disappointment that the only available barbeques are right next to the dumpsters! We had planned on doing a lot of grilling for dinner but this was extremely unappealing. The 2 grills and bbq area were clean but trash smell ruined it plus had to wait to use grill (only 2 for the whole complex). No trade winds for most of our stay and the unit got hot in the am when the sun hit it. Bedroom windows are onto the common hallway so can't leave them wide open for ventilation due to privacy issues and hallway noise so the bedroom got a little stuffy at night.
Fun stuff-the beach next to Beach House has wonderful snorkelling- that and Poipu were the best out of 5 we tried! So convenient!Beach House is a great place to eat. Puka dogs are wonderful. The melodrama presented by Kauai Community Players was lots of fun. Loved our zodiac tour of the Na Pali coast-highlight of our trip!!Allerton Gardens are lovely. Fresh papaya from the roadside stand nearby was wonderful and the garlic shrimp from the shrimp truck-yum!Kmart and Costco had some great buys. Old Koloa town is fun.Kauai is beautiful-loved all the flowers. -

Portland, ORWonderful oceanfront condo... great for watching sea turtles!
Left on 05/13/2009 for a stay in May 2009
If you enjoy being able to hear the ocean 24/7 and sitting on a lanai and watching sea turtles to your heart's content, then this is your kind of place. Ideal for couples.
This Kuhio Shores condo was very clean, comfortable and well maintained. Not a lot of noise from neighbors (probably drowned out by the ocean!) and a GREAT view. Very thoughtfully stocked from the kitchen cupboards (tons of appliances, plenty of spices, supplies, etc) to beach gear (towels, snorkel masks, etc). In house laundry was very convenient.
The home looks as if it were professionally decorated and while it's not done in a way that's quite to MY taste, it's nice to stay in a place where the owner's have obviously tried to create a very nice, peaceful environment. We felt more like we were staying in a friend's home, rather than in a rental. Two thumbs up!
PS - Some of the best snorkeling we found in Poipu was right next door by the Beach House restaurant... -

Left on 04/24/2009 for a stay in February 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kuhio Shores #208. It was a comfortable room, with all the amenities that we would need. The management is fabulous. We have many travel difficulties getting to the island and they greeted us with a warm card and delicious pie to soothe our tired bodies. We could'nt have asked for anything more. The view is beautiful and the room is right on the water. Perfect location for our 40th wedding anniversary. We would absolutely stay again.

Left on 02/04/2009 for a stay in January 2009
We spent 9 great nights at Kuhio Shores 208 and the place exceeded our expectations. The photos don't do it justice. Extremely clean and well-maintained. After only being there a day we both commented on how we could give up our house and live in this condo permanently. The building is very quiet and so is the entire neighborhood. Waking up to the beautiful sunrise and having coffee on the lanai was a great way to start the day. Lawai beach on the west side of the building is great for swimming and PK's beach right off of the lanai has great snorkeling. Poipu beach is only a 5 minute drive away. One beach that may be overlooked a lot by visitors is Salt Pond Beach past Port Allen- excellent swimming and snorkeling. Just about every beach we went to ended up having at least 1 monk seal come up to bask in the sun with the beachgoers.
We used the lockbox most of the time so we didn't have to worry about losing a set of keys-- a touchpad keyless entry would be the only suggestion for this unit.
We visited other places like the Sheraton and Hyatt and will put Kuhio Shores ahead of them.
The information our agent gave us on dining and activities was superb-- our favorites are Brennecke's Beach Broiler, Poipu Beach Broiler and Keoki's Paradise- all within about 5-10 minutes. Seouku's market in Koloa is very convenient and their meat and produce is fresh.
We have stayed in several rental units from condos to cottages in Hawaii and #208 is at the top of the list now and we plan to be back.
Mahalo to Amy and the condo owners for providing us with a very memorable place to stay.
