This is a great house with a great view and simple access to the beach, if you cant have a great island vacation staying here, well, you might not be able to have a great island vacation. The only negative, and its not a major thing, is that when we went to put the trash out, inside the blue cans was the most awful smell my family had ever encountered.

Being from the prairies in Canada, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
I have been to some nice beaches, and this one was definitely comparable, and within walking distance from the house. Seashells and creatures for the kids to investigate, waves to jump and lots of room for everyone on the beach. If you are going to stay all day, bring a shade tent, and drive your supplies down with your vehicle, that seems to be the thing to do, and the kids could have definitely used the shade later in the afternoon. Live and learn, but the vitamin D difficient Canadians/Scottish/Irish love to get it when they can. If you are a fisherman or fisherwoman, you can do it right on the beach, which was very entertaining! People were catching fish while we were enjoying the water.
The view from the beach was like something out of a movie, the 6 of us agreed. Absolutely beautiful!
The house itself was fully equipped. You have to bring a few items like papertowels and toilet paper (they supply the first roll) and other than that your kitchen if fully supplied (bring your own condiments, spices etc.)
Cannot say enough, if you love the beach, and luxuries of having a nice place to stay and a hot shower after (except not at the same time as anyone else, we figured that out the hard way, but the cool water was nothing compared to the cool weather in Canada at the time so we didn't mind), and the convenience of your own kitchen, this is a great place for you.
Oh, and you do actually find sand dollars on the beach, and my son was wishing he could actually spend them.
There is also a pool nearby (one for families and one for adults only) this was handy for a quick refresher, but we certainly preffered the beach.
Sunrises, sunsets, and the sound of waves putting you to sleep at night.
And last but not least, the shower on the bottom floor fits 3-4 children at one time!! And if that's not enough, just shower the sand off outside left of the Garage door.

Columbus NEfinally available
Left on 06/20/2010 for a stay in June 2010
Very beautiful abnd well supplied home. The views were awsome! Costal vacationing at its peak! I made a special trip from Nebraska in January to find the perfect home for our family to stay when we came down again in June for our son's wedding. I was so happy to find 288RD and signed a contract with Starkey Properties for a one-week rental (which had to be paid in full before our arrival). Upon our day late arrival I was informed that the property was not ready for us to occupy because of some electrical problem. Arrangements were made for us to stay at 250RD (another very nice property but lacking the view). We spent one night there and then had to transfer our belongings to 288RD in the Texas heat. My husband and two of our sons went into Port a to get the keys and find out what type of reimbursement we would receive for our inconvenience. One lady in the office told them around $400.00. When we went to collect, no refund was available to us. This was disappointing because our hotel in San antonio refunded the full rate for one night following a power outage of slightly more than one hour. If 288RD had been available on the night of our departure, Starkeys would have let us stay a free??? night (more than likely unknown to the owners). I still feel Starkey Properties owes us compensation for our inconvenience. I would love to stay at the property again, but not if I have to deal with Starkeys. .

richmond, txWonderful View!
Left on 07/08/2009 for a stay in July 2009
We enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home overlooking the gulf. It was very close to the beach and very quiet, however there were a couple items that could make the home a bit more enjoyable. Instead of 4 bedrooms the house technically has 3 bedrooms with the den making it 4 for sleeping purposes, (room is not private). Two bedrooms had ants in the closets, upstairs outlets in bathroom did not work, there was not one broom/sweeper in the whole house to use for sand purposes, pantry nor dumb waiter were not accessible. When you have 10 people staying in one home, it makes it kind of hard to have all your items in the walkway without a pantry. Lastly, the community pool was yellow, filled with algae, we complained but all four days we were there it was never cleaned, needless to say, we did not use it.

TexasOur good luck
Left on 06/17/2009 for a stay in June 2009
We were placed in this house after the one we reserved was sold to another company. I was very apprehensive with the change that occurred without my knowledge, and I was lucky I figured it out on my own before we went down to the beach expecting our first house.
We lucked into this beautiful house and could not have been happier. The back decks opened up to a panoramic view of the gulf and beach. What a great way to spend a cool morning or relax in the evening. The home was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The master bedroom on the top floor was perfect for my parents to sleep, while the rest of the family slept on the second level. The bedroom on the second floor with the queen bed also has a double trundle bed that is not advertised, so room for 2 more people. Our nephew decided to sleep on the comfy leather couch, so really there was more than enough room for 12 people in the house. I was disappointed, however, that my sister and brother-in-law had to sleep on the foldout with no separate bedroom. If my children were older, that is where they would have slept.
I highly recommend this house to anybody and will probably be booking it for our trip next year.
At first, I was very upset with Starkey Properties for not notifying me of the change and having to change gears 2 weeks before our trip. Karen was a big help through my frustration. Call on her for your reservations. You won't be disappointed in her service. -

Alexandria, VAStill Tops our List but some "Small" concerns
Left on 06/11/2009 for a stay in May 2009
This is our second stay - this time we went for 10 days up from 7 days last year. The decks with gulf/beach views are wonderful and house is still very nice and has a great location. Last year I said it was like staying at a luxury resort that is still true for the most part but, the "shine" is coming off. Paying $500 a night you expect the property to be in top condition but it was starting to need some touch ups e.g. front door needs painting, porch swing is about rusted out, missing table placemats that were provided last year, etc. The property manager needs to address/improve its service. . . again at $500 a night they should timely return phone calls (left message for housekeeping mgr and never got a call back). . . I still give it 5 stars but can only hope these small issues/concerns do not grow into larger ones. . .

HoustonGood times, but could've been great!
Left on 04/16/2009 for a stay in April 2009
We had a good time at the Sandollar, it was about 5 of us there with two infants. Some of the things that they say about the place are true but some are misleading. It doesn't mention that one of the "bedrooms" is just a sleeper sofa in a living room, with no privacy of a bedroom. The other room is 2 sets of bunk beds, and there is a king in the master and a queen in the other room. They didn't have extra toliet paper in the other bathrooms other than the master, the kitchen didn't have things like coffee filters, paper towels, only one dish rag, the washer wasn't working great either, the water hose didn't work outside, and the patio furniture was filthy. The view was spectacular and we liked how the decks were closed off so that the kids could crawl and cruise on the deck without a worry really. It was nice, but just a few things I wish I would've known about the place that were left out of the description.

Manager
Thank you for your time and willingness to share your experience with us regarding your stay in April. Please be assured it is always our intention to answer all of your questions about the property you are booking before the reservation is confirmed. Sandollar clearly states that they are 3 bedroom with a kids loft with sofa sleeper. Maintenance issues should always be reported so that they can be delt with immediately as to not interfere with your vacation. I have assigned our maintenance dept to take a look at the items that you have mentioned in your review. We hope you will choose Starkey Properties again for your future stays in Port Aransas.

Alexandria, VAGreat "On The Beach" House
Left on 10/31/2008 for a stay in May 2008
We plan to return and extend our stay from one week to two weeks at this rental. With GREAT views from decks and rooms looking out over dunes to beach plus the many extras in house, you have that "5 star resort" feel. Mgt service was very fast to address needs as well.
