Additional Location Information
The Port Douglas Artists' Treehouse is in the heart of Port Douglas, close to the beach, the marina and the main street. It is situated on a quiet street, overlooking the towering paper-bark trees. The Treehouse fronts the residential apartment block of "Paper Bark Gardens".
Port Douglas offers something for everyone. The distinctive laid back atmosphere, the breathtaking beauty of the scenery, morning strolls along palm-fringed Four Mile Beach, world championship golf courses, the marina, five star restaurants, local artist's galleries, boutique designer stores finished off with relaxing moments in the sidewalk cafes.
The Farmers' Market every Sunday is a wonderful mix of arts, crafts and local produce. There are amazing experiences diving spectacular Great Barrier Reef that can not be missed. Try a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of Mossman Gorge, or Spring Creek to revitalise the soul. Go sailing, spend a day lazing on the many (most empty) beaches.
Or walk to the marina and head out to nearby Low Isles. Hike scenic trails to Cape Tribulation where tropical rainforest and coral reef meet. The area is unique, a rainforest that has been in existence for more than 120 million years and contains some plant and animal species not seen anywhere else in the world. Or take a cruise up river and come face to face with large crocodiles and pythons in their natural habitat from the comfort and safety of a cruise boat.
...Or just spend quiet days lazing about in the Port Douglas Artists' Treehouse. The balmy tropical climate year around keeps visitors coming back to Port Douglas again and again.

From booking the Treehouse to getting the keys the owner Tina was very thorough and helpful. Located only 10 min walk from the main hub of low key Port Douglas and its stunning harbour, the artists Treehouse was an ideal retreat to come back to from our active days. The house was very relaxed with everything we needed for out weeks stay, with two reception rooms it was great that our 13yrs old sons could have their own space and my mum could chill on the balcony in comfort. We thoroughly enjoyed the quirkyness of every aspect of the house, from original artwork covering the walls to every bedroom having its own individual theme. My boys loved the local gecko's and the evening splendor of watching the fruit bats was stunning. The pool at the back was shared but clean and quiet. We totally enjoyed our experience at The artits Treehouse.

Booked on line and paid in advance for 7 nights, stupidly. This is not the normal place we would stay in,but we had a long haul travelling relative flying in to stay with us for 2 nights so thought it would be nice to have an apartment and this place appealed to my artistic side. After our first night it was clear we could not stay .The temperature was 35 plus degrees and we had the most all-time,terrible sleep ever aided by the racket of the antiquated airco unit and uncomfortable bed in the main bedroom. The bottom floor of the house didnt even have airco which was where our guest was to sleep, the heat down there was intolerable. We had no option to but make the call to find somewhere else to stay . We booked into a hotel that fully catered for the beautiful P.D climate..It was left to the owners discretion as to the refund amount...it is 2 months now and we haven't heard a word.

Some people just shouldn't travel. I do remember when I asked about the reef, your response was (which came across more like an accusation) was: "I didn't like it, saw no fish". With that statement, I knew this was not going to be an easy booking. I love the reef, when I go to the reef, I marvel at an amazing tranquil world of thousands of fish.
You first booked the Artists' Cottage, then canceled two weeks before as you wanted more guests to come (so this rental was then was left empty). You then booked into the Artists' Treehouse. Please look at your accounts, because frustratingly, the online booking company gave you all your money back, plus your deposit. (which is totally against our booking policy - all bookings are to pay a month in advance). Then you left with out paying the rest you owed. The online company then charged me your booking fee - so your booking left me with two rentals empty (which could have been easily filled), and cost me the booking fee plus all servicing attached. I am not happy at all that you never made contact to resurrect this. Actually, I found it embarrasing that you didn't. And now you ruin our five star rating with your review. I am not too happy about this whole situation.
Yes, you did happen to arrive in Port Douglas on the hottest day - on record, and I wish I had the power to control the weather but I don't. And yes, your husband was horribly sick with some type of blood problem which I am sure made your holiday a bit hard on you. And as stated on the website, compendium and our emails, there is no aircon downstairs, so I am surprised you found this a shock.
Please, next time, don't second guess yourself and do book straight into a beige, boring, cavernous hotel, where you can block out the environment you have supposedly come to see. Yes, you could be in Port Douglas, Noosa, Broome, Cairo or Bali - it wouldn't matter - the concrete walls, thick glass and aircon will barricade it all and you will have a lovely holiday. Actually, it might be more economical and pleasant for you guys to stay home, but then you would have nothing to complain about?
Please note - the point of the Artists' Cottage, Artists' Treehouse and Artists' Beach House, is to have little in common with the type of hotels and holiday experiences you enjoy. We really love to cater to guests that are really interesting people, who love creativity, adventure, and the environment. People who are after a more personal, local and tropical experience of Port Douglas. -

I dislike the usual decor of most apartments/hotels : white, beige and brown and usually buy flowers to brighten the place up.
Not so with this delightful house! It as full of colour and character and I loved it!
Great location, just a short walk to the main street (with a large supermarket). Communal pool which we had to ourselves. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this property - it was fun, clean and terrific! -

Delightful stay in a unique setting
Left on 07/29/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We spent a week at the artist's Treehouse with my wife and two adult children in their 20s. It was a truly relaxing tropical vacation spot. Every square inch seemed to hold some interesting or quirky piece of art, and it was perfectly furnished for a comfortable and relaxing week. We gladly traded the 10 - 15 minute walk to the town center in exchange for a quiet neighborhood (except for the occasional car or truck passing by) across from a jungle of trees and tropical birds. In fact it seemed we awoke each morning in the center of some type of bird sanctuary, which was a wonderful sound if not just a bit too early in the morning!
The owners were extremely helpful and careful to make sure everything was alright. If not for the problem of the pool not having been cleaned the entire week we were there and the fact that there was no internet service (which we knew in advance), I might have given this a 5 star rating. The pool company had refused to clean the pool all week due to the windy conditions, so it was pretty much unusable. I'm pretty sure the owners weren't happy about that either.
If you're looking for a unique experience, and really want to decompress, this is absolutely your kind of place. -

AdelaideA week in Port Douglas to remember!
Left on 07/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My husband and I recently stayed at the artists' Cottage in Port Douglas which felt like home away from home and a far cry from the usual sterile environment of a self-contained apartment. The cottage contained everything you needed, and more. It was much larger than you would expect for a one bedroom apartment. The hardest decision I made in the seven days we spent there was whether to enjoy my 'sundowner' on the front or rear balcony. Everything in the apartment was comfortable and inviting. The owner Tina made the whole experience pleasurable from the first inquiry email to a brief visit on the last day to make sure we had enjoyed ourselves. I'm sure anyone who is looking for a relaxing time in Port Douglas would enjoy a stay at the artists' Cottage - we certainly did. Would thoroughly recommend.

Arrived from the depths of a Victorian winter, an easy drive from Cairns, check in could not have been easier, delighted with the accommodation. Everything works as it should, Tina was extremely helpful with everything, and the amenities were great - the Bose ipod dock is a great touch.
The beach is a short ((4 minute) walk, and the main shopping street is a 10 minute walk - close enough, without being too close.
Overall, a great place for a tropical holiday - highly recommended. -

This is our second visit to this relaxing, inspiring, cheerful and convenient home and we enjoyed ourselves even more than last year! The house is very comfortable and clean with everything you could need. We love the open plan living, dining and kitchen area with the balcony and views into the palms and trees is magical. The location is so convenient to the beach, town and the tennis courts, so we only used a hire car for one day to visit Mossman Gorge and the Daintree. Thanks again, Tina, Matt and Pablo, for a wonderful holiday.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the artist Treehouse and fell in love with this house and Port Douglas. We were a group of friends/couples from Sydney/NZ .
From the moment I made contact Tina and Michelle were fantastic, they were very accommodating and were quick to respond to my many emails with great advice.
This property is beautiful! We loved our balmy evenings spent on the balcony with a glass of wine, and our many walks into the town centre to enjoy the many great restaurants - can recommend - Salsa, Bucci, Blue Moon Grill (Trinity Beach - need a car)
Loved what this property provided - great entertaining spaces, amazing artworks, games, books, dvds, and everything needed for the beach, we don't have kids but could imagine they would love it here too.
Never wanted to leave - and can't wait to come back with family from NZ, who will fall in love just as we did.
Thanks again for a wonderful week in a tropical paradise!!

We loved this place. Very comfortable two-floor house that feels like an artier version of your own home. Very clean. In a quiet part of town but just one km to the town centre. Flat screen TV on each floor (two lounge rooms) with free-to-air channels. Decent-sized in-ground shared pool out the back but we never saw anyone there but us and we were there every day. A/C upstairs only (lounge and bedroom) but ceiling fans only downstairs (two bedrooms and second lounge). As such, downstairs is liveable but if you don't like the heat at night, sleeping downstairs may be a challenge. The bats in the trees across the road will make sure you don't sleep in too late. One thing - if you need internet there is none, but a cafe a hundred metres down the road offers wireless. Michelle is great and very responsive from the first contact. We didn't want to leave.

Everything was perfect from whoa to go at the artist's Treehouse. We were greeted by the wonderful Sofia (who is posting us a kid's bikini we left there, very kindly) and left to explore the house in wonder. If you love funky shabby chic, but with crisp bedlinen and good kitchen gear, then this is the place for you. Tina's amazing art is everywhere and there is humour and love wherever you look. We were creatively revitalised and refreshed! Nature is lush too - tropical palms at every window and balcony, and loads of flying foxes and birds. It's quiet, but is only a ten minute walk to town or the marina. The guest folder is a mine of local information. We'd love to go back to the artist's Treehouse.

Such an interesting place which felt like a home, very relaxing and laid back. The "bar" opening onto the balcony amongst the trees was the place to have breakfat, read books and have an evening drink. It was very good value for a family and close enough to everything. You need a week to appreciate all the little artworks and quotes. Perhaps a slightly wider range of books would be nice and the lounge chairs were not all that comfortable. The two levels were great for separating family dynamics at times! Altogether we loved our stay at the treehouse.

We had a terrific week at the treehouse. The house is both stunning/ecletic and also very comfortable - with plenty of different spaces to chill out. And very kid friendly with a huge toy box & a bookcase full of kids books & Dvds - our 2 toddlers loved it. A few blocks walk from the beach in one direction & the main cafe strip in the other. Loved it & we would very happily visit again.

Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in July 2011
A home away from home with a unique fitout. The artists Treehouse sits on a plain suburban street, but has been creatively transformed from an ordinary townhouse to a haven that surrounds you with artistic touches. It's also very comfortable - decent beds, timber louvres with insect mesh in the bedrooms, two living spaces with comfy couches, simple but appealing bathrooms and kitchen, and a retro bbq on our favourite spot, the deck. It's less than 10 minutes walk to Macrossan St, and five minutes to the beach. The locals can be a bit noisy on Saturday nights but usually it's the beautiful sounds of birds you'll notice. Don't expect five star oppulence, but if you want a laid back vibe in an appealing arty environment, go for it. We were two single friends and loved it. I highly recommend the artist's Treehouse for an inspiring stay, and thank the (artist) owner Tina for being so clever in her creation, and helpful re our visit.

This unique artistic home, offered us a great experience which was beyond hosting us in Port Douglas. The house has everything one needs for a great vacation (baskets for the beach, big towels and beach toys and a cute pool), has all needed to have a comfy homy experience (nice soaps, soft towels, clean everything) and fun options to have the meals - bar sitting, big table, chairs on the balcony with BBQ and more... Above all it has a great creative artistic style with a humorist touch that adds a special edge to the whole experience. So glad we found this location it is the icing on the cake of any stay at Port Douglas:).

The first time I saw this accommodation online I was hooked and it more than met my hopes for the perfect holiday. The house is amazing, creative, great facilities and all the comforts required. We stayed for 2 weeks and I could have moved in permanently. Tina and Matt have created a holiday home for the traveller who wants something unique. I will and have highly recommended it already and will be back.

Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in April 2011
The Port Douglas artists' Treehouse is ideally located in Port Douglas...walking distance to beach, shops, marina, restaurants etc...but the reality is that once you arrive you'll never want to leave the house, and you don't need to! There is everything here you could need for the perfect holiday...an enchanting stylish environment full of intriguing knick knacks, fabulous art (lots by the owner Tina and her international artist friends) comfort at every turn, a kitchen that cries out to be cooked in (owner Matt is a chef), a pool and all this in a beautiful tree setting. Matt and Tina's property oozes personality and is ideally suited to travellers looking for a unique relaxing experience in the tropics. Makes me feel relaxed just thinking back to my time there. Would be particularly good for families...plenty of room over two levels for everyone to spread out and do their own thing. Highly recommended!

We were absolutely blown away when we arrived at the artists' treehouse. The decor is just so amazing!! It is unlike anything i have ever seen before - you can tell someone creative decorated!!
Every little detail is thought of from having some essential pantry items, to kids toys. There is so much information on what to do in Port Douglas and surrounds as well.
We took our 9 month old baby and it was heaven! Romantic and also family oriented. The owners have a little munchkin so they have thought of everything you would need for bubbas.
Everything was so comfortable and relaxing. The location is only 10 mins to town and probably less to the beach. As we are lazy (!) we sometimes wished we were a little closer to the beach or to town but being a little away from it all meant that it was extra relaxing. Also remember when going here or anywhere in FNQ that you have to be at one with nature - that means at times very loud birds! :)
I highly recommend this place for couples travelling together (without kids) or a family. We left feeling totally relaxed and felt that the generosity of the owners made for an extra special experience.
We are now in freezing cold, rainy Sydney and we cannot wait to go back to this place!!Response from Tina Gonsalves - 06/23/2011
