Restful, peaceful, beautiful house on Puget sound.

Left on 01/23/2013 for a stay in November 2012

My husband, his sister and I stayed at this lovely house in November, 2012. Every room in the house looks out on Puget Sound, and every morning, Bald Eagles fly by, sometimes stopping to roost in trees on the property. We are birders, and enjoyed the gardens on the property because they are designed to attract birds and provide seeds and nectar for many species. We regularly saw Red Crossbills, Stellar's Jays, Sapsuckers and Woodpeckers, Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Mountain and Chestnut-backed Chickadees, White-crowned and Golden-crowned sparrows, several species of loons and grebes, many gulls, finches, warblers, a pine grosbeak, and hundreds of pine siskins. Snowy Owls were reported nearby, though we weren't lucky enough to see one. Below the house, a family of sea otters played everyday in in the waters near shore. The owners have provided a scope and binoculars for viewing.

The best feature of the house is the sunroom. Though it was cold outside at times, the sunroom was a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the scenery. Every day we were there (three weeks), we arose early so we could enjoy sunrise at this very beautiful spot. Everything about this location is spectacular. This is truly a place to renew your spirit.

Everything you need is available in this house and the owners are very attentive if there is a problem.

One thing not mentioned in the house description is access to a garage for parking one's car. The neighborhood is wonderful. Every night, rain or not, we took a walk in the neighborhood.

Grocery stores are about twenty minutes away, and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. We generally cooked at home, because why go out when one can have such a beautiful view by staying home?

This is one of the best places we have stayed on our Vrbo vacations. I imagine in the summer that it is even better, and we hope to come back someday to spend some summer days there on the Sound.

Our stay at Highbank House is a repeat rental for us. We had another wonderful stay and believe there must not be a better view on the Sound than from this house. The king bedroom is fantasic with a morning view of the sun or fog, the deck is perfect for viewing bald eagles, hummers, deer and even a racoon. Mount Baker can often be in full view and we even saw the leg of a gorgeous rainbow which turned the Sound waters an orange sherbert color. We'll look forward to our third visit to Highbank House!

Left on 08/12/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We spent the month of July in the home of Joan and Jay. It truly was like "home away from home". It was a fully loaded home - from the kitchen and pantry to the extra towels and blankets. Nothing could be more relaxing than sitting on the deck viewing and listening to nature all around us. Port Ludlow was a perfect starting off point for all the various activities our extended family enjoyed - from the mountains to the seashore. The stay met all our of expectations and more.
      Thank you, Joan and Jay.

It was a 'girls' weekend' for ten and we all agreed we couldn't have picked a better place. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, dishes,glasses... everything that you could possibly need. The location was perfect... Port Townsend for shopping, golf for the golfers, Sequim for those who wanted to try their luck at gambling. A great sunroom for enjoying the view (the property was landscaped beautifully), reading or even watch the deer that meander through. Five stars all the way.

      Beautiful Home and Spectacular Views

Left on 03/27/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Our large family spent a wonderful 50th anniversary celebration week in this beautiful home with large chef's kitchen. Joan and Jay were great with the planning details and registration. The spectacular views from all the large windows and solarium provided us with sunrises, eagles, numerous varieties of small birds and critters, submarines, sub-tenders, Coast Guard boats, sailboats and so many commercial fishing craft. Facing the major Puget Sound shipping lanes, we watched and photographed huge container ships and gigantic car carriers. Wonderful vacation spot!

Eagles every day Grandchildren loved watching the submarines

      An Extraordinary Vacation Home

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in September 2011

My extended family and myself had the great pleasure and privilege to spend 6 weeks at this fantastic waterfront vacation home in Port Ludlow. The view from practically every room was breathtakingly beautiful. At night, I lay in bed looking out over Puget Sound watching cruise ships and commercial barges sailing by. The solarium was a wondrous respite, a perfect place for a quiet meditation and relaxation. Joan and Jay are wondrous hosts - providing every amenity one could ask - even a well stocked pantry, laundry soap and a bottle of white and red wine to welcome us! I cannot recommend this home away from home more highly. Thank you Joan and Jay!

      Enjoying God's Grandeur!

Left on 10/14/2011 for a stay in August 2011

The home was the single most beautiful home my husband & I have ever rented/stayed at in 12+ years. It was beautifully laid out, and the views were obviously planned for by the architect(s). We have seen some exquisite views in our travels but this was unlike anything we had seen!!! The home is literally perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. I was in awe at the planning that must have been done to build something so amenable and yet so sensitive to a the best possible view from any given place in the home. The time involved in getting to other places by ferry might burden some, but to us it was an adventure each time.

Anytime we did want to go out, we were able to find whatever we wanted or needed... from food to shopping to gym to quality health care...at a very reasonable distance.

How we sleep in a big deal for us. The bed & mattress were extremely luxurious, comfortable and the view upon awakening was breath-taking.

We both felt it was the loveliest place we ever stayed and worth every dollar in rent we paid to stay there!

Our week-long stay could not have been more wonderful. Set in a quiet, peaceful spot, nestled in tall trees with flowers and gorgeous, scenic water views all around..fabulous in every respect! The owners included everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable and easy. The house is spacious and there was plenty of room for the 6 of us. Loved sitting in the solarium looking out at that sparkling view. Made me realize that one of the best things to do at this lovely place is just to sit and do nothing ! Many thanks for sharing your special home.

What an incredible home!!! The open floor plan and spectacular views of Puget Sound cannot be captured by the web photos. Imagine cooking dinner as you watch the ships passing through Puget Sound or waking up to a it's vistas. We rented this home and the three bedroom condo for our family reunion. It's location makes it ideal to visit Port Townsend and Victoria via Port angeles. We went whale watching with the Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. The solarium was a favorite place to watch the ships as they passed through Puget Sound, watch deer and eagles or read a book. Thank you Joan and Jay for sharing your beautiful home.

We have been coming to the Port Ludlow area for 15 years and nothing we have ever seen captures the beauty of the this area as this home does. The entire Eastern side of the home views Pugent Sound with a deck running the entire length. We had several deer pass right next to the deck. Beautiful place to relax or watch ships coming and going into Seattle.

Very private and comfortable stay with king size bed, which is not often offered in rental homes, plus double vanity sink in master bath, huge deck with grounds surrounded with flowers and fauna and eagles and deer and hummingbirds all made our vacation stay in Port Ludlow extra enjoyable.
The value of the rental cost is worth the location and comfort and the extraordinary views of Pudget Sound, the Cascade Mountain range and Mt. Baker in the distant. Wonderful sun risings and beautiful pink sky sunset colors to the west added to the enjoyment of our stay.

      Joan and Jay,
Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful house with us. My family and friends had such a lovely time. The house is spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. The view is incredible! We had a hard time leaving to explore the area because we were so happy and relaxed in the house. We played games at the large dining room table, watched movies, ate, and lounged in the sunroom just taking in the view and watching the wildlife. I was pleasantly surprised by how well equiped the kitchen was, and appreciated not having to buy a bunch of condiments! We will definitely be back, and our friends plan on renting it as well.

      Thank you for everything!

My family has stayed at this Port Ludlow home two times because we enjoyed it so much! Sitting on the deck overlooking the water and watching cruise ships and subs sail by is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon! Oh, did I mention the beautiful mountains that shoot up past the horizon? And the glorious sun rises over those mountains! But beyond the natural beauty, the house itself is great, too. There is plenty of room to spread out; it is well-kept. If we had any questions, Joan and Jay were prompt to respond. All went great and we look forward to returning soon. J.N. Michigander in love w/ Port Ludlow

      RELAX & ENJOY THE VIEW

Left on 03/15/2010 for a stay in September 2009

Jay and Joan’s truly a destination for relaxing and enjoying the view. And not far away, if you get the urge, are many interesting spots and to visit such as Pt. Townsend, where you can stroll or shop at unique boutiques. There is no need to go anywhere, take on the relaxing view of the Sound. Catch the cruse boats on their way out to the straights or late at night as they return in the dark glowing with thousands of lights. When you get tired of relaxing golf is not far away. If that is not your thing a visit to the harbor and the hotel is good for communing with friendly folks. It is a good place just to do what you like and the pace you like.
      Enjoy!

A wonderful getaway a short distance away

Left on 03/07/2010 for a stay in November 2009

I stayed with a small group of friends at Highbank Waterfront Home last Fall. We enjoyed beautiful clear weather which allowed views of the expansive waterfront vista. I enjoyed the outdoor sunroom where I could watch eagles and other birds as well as ships, or relax with my book. I also enjoyed short hikes in the tree-lined vicinity.

The sleeping and bath accomodations are very clean, comfortable and well furnished. The living room accomodations are also very comfortable and well furnished, although, I must say I didn't spend much time there. We brought our own food. Everything we needed to prepare and enjoy our meals was easily available and accessible in the kitchen and dining rooms. We had several cars, and had ample parking at the house. I also noticed restaurants and a small grocery store within an easy drive.

I would enjoy staying at this house again in the future.

The views from this Port Ludlow home are spectacular. You see the water (northern Puget Sound?) and the land across. It looks east and you can see great sunrises as well as see the sun setting on the scene. The house enjoys a high bank location in a very quiet neighborhood. I have been there before and in summer seen the cruise ships coming into and departing Seattle. Wow. You are an easy walk to the marina and hotel for amenities should you desire- but the house is fully equiped so you can sleep comfortably and eat well never leaving.

Never tired of the breathtaking views!

Left on 02/04/2010 for a stay in May 2008

We've stayed many places but this is the absolute best! The views are breathtaking from almost every room. The solarium was my favorite place during cooler weather. Cozy and comfortable with the a view of the yard and natural pond and unobstructed view of the water and mountains. We were lucky to see the nuclear sub heading out to sea with the accompanying helicopters and Coast Guard boats. The sub is HUGE! That made our day. Eagles are frequently flying right over the solarium and you can watch them fishing just below the house. Deer came to visit one evening and also a raccoon was on the deck right in front of the windows trying to get to the hummingbird feeder. It was a pleasure to get up in the morning just to sip coffee while watching the view and wildlife. Cooking was difficult because the fabulous view was so distracting. The house is contemporary and very well lit with lots of skylights and interesting angles. Waking up in the master bedroom to the sunrise was spectacular--and I am not a morning person. In the early mornings I watched the cruise ships returning to Seattle all lit up. Very beautiful. This is a place that has it all! We are returning again.
