Additional Location Information
Neighbourhood: In the past few years the neighbourhood has seen an increase in guesthouses and hotels closeby because of its location to the Savannah and the ease of transport into and out of the area. Its generally a quiet place without heavy traffic.
For entertainment,The Botanial Gardens and Emperor Zoo is 5minutes walking distance. The Queen's Hall Theatre is 10mintues walking distance and the Savannah is 15minutes walking distance away. NAPA (National Academy for the Performing Arts) is a bit further at about a 30minute walk. For Night life I would recommend going to The Avenue (Aripita Avenue) a 10 minute drive. Or Zen Night Club a 3minute drive. Maracus Beach is a 40minute drive up the northen range mountain, which affords you beautiful views of nature and the city alike. If the Beach is too far, the Water Park is a 5minute drive up the St. Anns Rd. to Cascadia Hotel on the hill.
As for Food and Restuarants: The mini-mart is next door and the Hi-Lo Supermarket is a 5minute walk away.
There are a few restuarant options around. The closest is the Solimar Bistro located at the Normandie Hotel, a 5minute walk. Then there are the Relish Cafe (open for Breakfast and Lunch) and Ca-Sa located at the Carlton Savannah Hotel, a 10minute walk. And a 5Star restauarnt, The Battimamzelle located at Coblentz Inn another 10minute walk the next street over.
Parking and Transportation: There is parking available on the property if you rent a car, but if not, the public bus stops right out front of the property and taxi's can be flagged right at your doorstep.

What Past Guests Are Saying
Good day... stayed at the Colonial house for the 2013 carnival season. We stayed there for a total 10 days. I have nothing but great things to say about the house. We were the first people to rent the two back apartments in the back of the main house so everything was pristine!!! Nisha and her father were the best for accommodating us. Coming back from a fete(party) our car got wrecked(towed) Mr Charles was nice enough to drop me over in St.James to pick it up!!! I will definitely be staying for 2014 carnival season!!!

Excellent location and plenty of room inside...a true home away
When we arrived, the Charles Family made us feel welcome and did an excellent job of orienting us to the Greater Port of Spain metropolitan region, including the North Coast beaches of Maracas Bay and Magariep. The Charles family also gave us a free tour of points of interest in the City, including the famous Breakfast Shack on the harbor and various shopping malls. They were also able to connect us with a local swimming club where our kids could sign up for full-day swimming camps while we got to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet and they on the other hand learned about the Trinidadian culture through the other kids at the Camp.
In addition to the hospitality of the hosts, the location could not have been better. Colonial House is located within walking distance of several attractions in Port of Spain, including the Savannah Park, the Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Queens Oval Theater. It is also located next to a fruit and vegetable market, a local Trini bakery and a grocery supermakert. We ate fresh mangoes and other local fruit/vegetables daily and cooked most of out meals right at the house.
With 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen, a dining room, a living room, an enclosed porch and a fenced/gated yard, we (2 adults, 3 kids) never felt like we were on top of each other and enjoyed every moment we spent in the house. While we were cooking or relaxing at the house, our kids had plenty of space to play both inside and outside. When we were done eating, we often went for long walks around the Savannah and got to drink some fresh coconut water from the many vendors around the park.
If you are looking to experience a feeling of being home away from home, Colonial house is a great choice and we strongly recommend it, particularly if you are traveling as a family with young kids or two couples. We certainly plan to stay there the next time we visit Trinidad.
