We loved staying here! Clean, comfortable and in no time it felt like home The kitchen is wonderful! Great claw footed bath tub. Beautiful view! The house is full of books, magazines and comfortable chairs! We read for hours in front of the fire place! A great location-close to spectacular Skerwink Trail We've already made plans to return!

This was our second time at Doran House and we've loved it both times. It's roomy yet cosy and comfortable (and beautifully restored) and has a wonderful ocean view with a lovely porch to watch it from. There's hiking, whale-watching and sight-seeing all within easy driving distance. Or you can just relax - cook a lovely dinner with friends and enjoy a good book and a glass of wine on the porch or in front of the woodstove. There are a couple of good eating places nearby and interesting towns and amazing scenery everywhere around. We'd go back in a minute. And we will go back!

St. John'sCosy, relaxing, peaceful...
Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in December 2012
A wonderful winter retreat... an old traditional Newfoundland rural house with a splendid view out the harbour. What better place to watch the wintery weather, occasionally putting more wood in the stove (there is also very effective eklectric heat, but there's something special about a stove...), reading, listening to music, fixing snacks or a meal, sipping on a glass of something, watching a video, and eventually retreating upstairs for a very quiet and restful night's sleep?
Not that we didn't venture out. Both the 6 year old boy and the 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback view Port Rexton as favourite territory. The former has decided that Skerwink Trail is his all-time favourite hike, and cold weather did not prevent him from exploring and greatly enjoying the beaches on the Skerwink and Fox Island Trails. As for the dog, she just kept wagging her tail (albeit she was bemused by an otter sighting).
Also of note... two well-equipped bathrooms (with both baths and showers) and the surprisingly well-stocked local liquor store. -

We've been back for New Year's celebrations with friends for several years and Skerwink House is always a welcome retreat! Very comfortable and very welcoming. Home away from home in a beautiful setting. Couldn't recommend it more highly!!!
