CaliforniaBeautiful Craftsman in the Hawthorne
Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013
I stayed here for a week with family and dog. It was one of the best rentals I have experienced for comfort, location, and professional handling of the reservation. The house is beautiful with lots of unique Craftsman features and roomy. The kitchen is functional and there is plenty of light. The location is great for cafes, bars and shops, but still quiet for a good night's sleep. The dog enjoyed walking around the tree-lined neighborhood. The kids could come and go because the bus was just around the corner. All interactions with the owner were pleasant. The contract was clear and comprehensive. I can't wait to come back. Most highly recommended!

Athens, OhioWonderful stay in Portland!
Left on 04/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013
I stayed here with my dad while I was visiting the law school in the area. It was an excellent stay! We were within easy driving distance to downtown and to many of the awesome neighborhoods in Portland. We really enjoyed the the Jam cafe on Hawthorne for breakfast and how it was an easy 30 second walk from Laurie's house! Many clean towels were provided and the house had an old charm too it. Laurie's street was very quiet, but it is in the Hawthorne District so if you walk or drive a mile down from Laurie's house there will be many bars and restaurants. There was a grocery store within walking distance as well and a farmer's market, which we appreciated.
Thank you for the wonderful stay Laurie!

Thanks for the great little place to nest and rest while visiting Portland. The location was perfect and within walking distance of some of the best food and drink Portland has to offer. I highly recommend this lovely place. Super comfy beds and really quiet and restful place to spend the week.

Hi Jacquie, thanks so much for your kind comments about our place. I love it when people find our place to be a haven, especially when they come from far away like you did. Hope to have you back again.

Dunedin, New ZealandGreat Location - Liveable House
Left on 09/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I was in Portland with my family for an academic sabbatical, visiting from New Zealand. We stayed here for 7 weeks and really enjoyed our time. The house is in a great location, on a quiet, leafy side street only a block away from Hawthorne Blvd and some very nice cafe/restaurants and within easy walking distance of a number of parks. You can walk into downtown Portland in half-an-hour, or there is a regular (every 10 minutes) bus service there.
The house itself is perfectly liveable. It is quite old - which has its charms, but also some drawbacks. So, for example, the floors creak and some of the fittings are showing their age. The decor also tends to the shabby (but clean) chic, rather than perfectly maintained luxury. But that said, everything worked fine and there was plenty of room for a family of four - downstairs there is a lounge/dining area, kitchen, one good sized bedroom and bathroom (with shower/bath); upstairs there is a VERY large bedroom.
The owner, Laurie, was great to deal with. Booking was no problem, the key was left for us on arrival, and our deposit was returned without a quibble. She also has left lots of information for guests. -

DenverGreat Place, Great Location!
Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Laurie, I just wanted to write and say a quick thank you! Your place was perfect for the four of us and even if we had come to Portland to find a place before our trip, we wouldn't have have found a more convenient location or better accommodations. We loved being so close to Hawthorne, the bakery, coffee shops, bus lines, bars...the list goes on. And obviously your home had all the charm and character that "is" Portland. We will definitely be staying with you again when we come back to visit my brother. Thanks again... Jeremy

Mason, OhioWonderful Portland

A wonderful property--if you want new--this is not for you--if you want comfortable, clean, convenient--this is a must. A great master bedroom (king bed)--loads of closet space--up stairs and down--wonderful thick towels--fully equipped kitchen and clothes washer and dryer, a short block walk to the Grand Central Bakery--best croissants this side of Paris--great breads--"The Jam", across the street for a mind blowing breakfast--be early or stand in line and meet the locals--the bus stop is next to the bakery--a super market is 4 blocks away--many good/great places to eat within walking distance or a short bus ride--we did 10 days without a car--and got around everywhere with a "Honored Citizens"(senior)pass--14 days for $13--best deal in the USa! Don't miss Portland, Oregon--it's the closest thing to New Zealand in the Usa--we'll be back--soon--and will stay here again

Santa Rosa, CACharming house in great neighborhood
Left on 06/14/2011 for a stay in August 2010
My husband and I, along with our 20 yr old daughter and her girlfriend just spent a week here. The big draw for us initially is that it was close to our new grandbaby. We are so glad we stayed here. Very convenient to have a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms! The neighborhood is charming, the best part was the bakery at the end of the block. We stopped by there more than we should have! We walked to the Max and took that to the zoo. Portland has a great zoo. We also went to Omsi (within walking distance), and ate out more than we planned - a lot of great restaurants in the neighborhood. The home was very comfortable, clean and pleasant to stay in. I highly recommend it - way better than a hotel!
