Description from the owner
After nearly 30 years of dedication and service to our clients, La Tagliata had the opportunity to relocate to a larger property next door.
Taking advantage of extra space we added two units to be used for bed & breakfast purposes.

Like staying with an Italian Family
Left on 10/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This is an amazing property made up of two rentable suites and a restaurant. The Limonella room is on the 1st terrace of the property and shares access to the restaurant. The rooms below the restaurant is the Boticella suite with Jacuzzi. La Tagliata is a family run business with a very homely atmosphere. Communication with the family is easy as English is well spoken and they are most helpful.
We were in the Limonella suite. This is a simple room with glassed off bathroom area, good shower, plenty of hot water. Limited hanging space but I lived in shorts, tee shirts so the rest went in the case under the bed. No problem. There is an outdoor kitchen which my wife used extensively to make some fabulous meals. Free access to all their gardens. Zucchini, figs, peppers, capsicums, lemons, tomatoes to die for. If it is not in the garden they supply it to you out of the kitchen. The family are very helpful, all they want is for you to enjoy yourself. We loved the room, loved the view, loved the people. Noise can be heard as the restaurant customers arrive and depart but if you shut your gate, the glass doors, the heavy wooden doors, put on the air conditioning in the Limonella suite then it is ok. Tuesday and Saturday night is live music night and loads of fun. The bus ride down to Positano is fun and convenient although we had a car as well. Lastly a big thanks to the Mama Dora and the Father Don Luigi for raising such a wonderful, respectful family. -

Elsewhere on this site you will find 650+ reviews and counting of La Tagliata as a trattoria. Very few mention the delightful possibility of staying in one of two rooms run by the Coppola family as a B&B; by the week at the same property. Numerous photos of each room are available at latagliata.com. I highly recommend the superior placement of the room called La Botticella, where my partner and I recently spent a wonderful week in early September 2012.
La Botticella is situated on the floor below the main dining area of the restaurant, with a private terrace opening onto the magnificent view of Positano below and the Li Galli islands beyond. One can even glimpse the Faraglioni on distant Capri. On this terrace is a very cleverly constructed open-air kitchen with a gas cook-top, refrigerator and perfectly adequate selection of cookware and utensils. The gardens of the restaurant are immediately adjacent, and one is welcome to pick and use whatever one will cook and eat from it.
If you are a cook yourself, this is a slice of heaven. Fresh basil, arugula, and fraises de bois are literally at arm's length on your terrace. A few feet away are tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, squash...whatever happens to be in season. The restaurant specializes in charcoal-grilled meats and will provide meat or fish for you to cook if you give them notice. They will also set up a private grill for you on your terrace, which has a lovely majolica-topped table for dining, or you may take meat up the short flight of stairs to the grill area of the restaurant. They will cook it for you while you wait. Dining al fresco every evening in this manner made for a rare and memorable experience. The cares of driving along the coast road, or the frenzy of Naples, or the crush of tourists on Capri, all slipped away before the incredible view of the sea and bounty of the land.
The room itself is spacious and nicely appointed. The tiled bathroom was far and away one of the loveliest I have seen in Italy. The bed is comfortable and the linens are all-cotton and substantial, as are the towels, both of which are changed three times per week. There is plentiful hot water at good pressure. An unusual feature is a window-side jacuzzi in the main room. It is difficult to imagine actually filling it up with water and using it, but it does not take up as much space of the room as the website photos might suggest. Access to the room is through the restaurant by stairs, or there is direct elevator access through an attractive wine cellar.
The extended Coppola family strike the perfect balance between respecting your privacy and being available for anything you might need or want to ask. They are sincerely interested in your well-being and enjoyment of their property, in which they clearly take enormous pride. The room, the restaurant, and the grounds are very clean and well cared for.
It is important to bear in mind that you are staying just below a living, breathing, working restaurant which does a thriving business to the tourist and wedding trade. I had some concerns when booking about how this would work out, and I am happy to say that we found the noise levels completely acceptable. Because of the unique placement of La Tagliata high on the mountainside, a shuttle brings diners up from Positano hotels from approximately 8:30 pm on, taking them down again afterwards. Things normally wind up by 11 pm at the latest. There is live music on Tuesday and Saturday evenings, consisting of a moderately amplified singer and an acoustic guitar. It is certainly audible from the terrace, but not disturbing at all. The singer also takes frequent breaks. While the music may not be to everyone's taste it was easy to get into the spirit of things, given the extremely genial hospitality of the Coppola family and the beauty of the surroundings.
We ate at the restaurant one evening and enjoyed the fare very much. It's important to set one's expectations correctly: this is simple food, simply prepared and simply served. It does not aspire to any pretense whatsoever. If haute cuisine is what you are seeking, you will find it in the luxury hotels down the hill, for a price. If, instead, you enjoy family-style charcoal-grilled meats preceded by the best bruschetta you may ever have (consisting of nothing more or less than tomatoes from the garden just there, basil, and Evoo), all taken in a lively atmosphere, you will enjoy your meal at La Tagliata. Staying there is one of the loveliest vacation experiences we've ever had. -

While I am listening to the rain in this cold australian winter I am looking at the pictures taken in La Tagliata. I kept a fond memory of my sojourn in the midst of this generous family. Not only my Limonella room was exquisite with its terrasse offering a spectacular view but I could not praise enough the warm approach of each member of this family.I remember with nostalgia the delicious breakfasts. I was very grateful for the invitation to share Dora's birthday, such a happy get together! Thank you antonietta, Luigi, Dora, Peppino, Vincenzo for making my week a constant enjoyment.I will be back.

We stayed 14 days at "La Tagliata" to spend our summer holidays. What can I say, this was the most beautiful place we've ever been! We booked a double room (La Limonella) which had enough space, nice furniture, a cosy little terrace with kitchenette and a spectacular view over the blue sea. The combination of having the sea in front and the high mountains in the back was just amazing. The owners were so nice and friendly that you just had the feeling you are a part of their family. Especially Giorgia who is incredible. She was managing all queries around the booking and helped us so much with all the sightseeing trips. We just love her!! The bus stop is right in front of the restaurant so there is no problem to go to Positano or other destinations from where you can easily go to Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento, Pompeji or other nice places. The kitchen of "La Tagliata" is incredible: everything is fresh cooked and you can get all the typical local vegetables and mediterranean food the Italian kitchen is famous for. So finally we say many many thanks to Luigi and Dorothea and their lovely family for these unforgettable holidays. We miss you so much and we are looking forward to our next summer holidays because we definitively will come back.
In Love Elke & Lisa from Germany

Located a short bus ride from Positano overlooking the city. Food and service is a 10 on scale of 10. We reserved 2 bedrooms and I stayed in the smaller of the 2. Adequate for sleeping, porch over looking Sea of Sorrento was peaceful and picturesque. Live music several days each week and the food is grow right on site in their garden. Can't get any fresher. Would accommodate you for breakfast with anything you desire. Could have used a bit more space to store and hang clothes. Shower had hot water and good pressure but needs soap dish or shelf to hold soap. Was a good central location for traveling to amalfi, Sorrento, Positano, Revello and Capri. We would love to return and stay here again.

We had very high expectations of our holiday and they were exceeded on every level!! Giorgia, Antionna, Vincenzo, Peppe, Zio, Mamma and Pappa could not do enough for us and genuinely wanted to assist us in any way they could to make our holiday as special as it was. The rooms were perfect, cool, spotless with views that words cannot describe. The air con was very welcome indeed and the wi fi helpful in planning our days and keeping in touch with home. The restaurant was wonderful (food, atmosphere, party night especially) but so were the bbqs we had on our terrace. Just ask and they will set up for you at a time to suit. What could be more prefect than after long a day sightseeing, a jacuzzi in your room overlooking Capri while Zio sets up the bbq. Just enough time to pick some salad from the organic gardens and enjoy a glass of wine. We even purchased steaks from them as could not find a butchers. Truly nothing is too much trouble for this wonderful family. If you want a piece of heaven on earth then I suggest you stay here. Thank you so much we will be back.Missing you all and those views very much indeed.

The first thing you will notice at La Tagliata is the breathtaking view. The next thing you will realise is that the family that run this B&B; are extremely friendly, helpful, and so glad to see you.
Antionetta, the daughter of the owner, met us and insisted on carrying our luggage to our room. We were then greeted by Giorgio,
the daughter in law of the owner, who, when we asked about getting vegetables from the garden, promptly went and picked carrots, potatoes and beans for us. My husband made good use of them as he loves to cook and made several of our dinners on our terrace.
The room is small but very comfortable and clean. When you close the door it is like a vault, you can't hear any noise. The terrace is great, with an amazing view of Positano.
You can catch a bus every hour right outside the door. It takes about 20 min. There is also a pedestrian path if you want to be adventerous and walk down. It took us an hour and a half, and I would recommend doing it once. You can get some great pictures. I wouldn't try walking back up as it is all stairs!
While we were there we ate dinner in their restaurant twice. One of the nights was music night, not to be missed!! The food was great - home cooking and lots of it.
The family make you feel like you belong.
Papino always greets you like you were a long lost relative. Vincenzo, the chef, greets you every morning with a big smile and never seems to get tired.
It is wonderful to feel apart of an Italian family, even if for just a little while. They are so generous that you have to be careful not to take advantage of their kindness. We had a wonderful time!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at La Tagliata for 9 nights in May, 2011. What an incredible experience we had there. The property is owned and managed by a wonderful, warm, and caring family whose members made our happiness their number one priority. Both units consist of a beautiful bedroom with a handcrafted bathroom. The larger room also has a spa. We had a private terrace with the best view possible overlooking Positano. A brand new outdoor kitchen on our terrace enabled us to cook our own meals when we wanted to. But half of the nights we there, we went to the family's adjoining restaurant for dinner. Even though we enjoy cooking, it was hard not to go to the restaurant because the food was so awesome and the atmosphere was so fun. Especially on the nights when they have live music. Upon arrival, we were met by antonietta, who served as our concierge during our stay. She is terrific and often went above and beyond in tending to our needs. Giorgia and Pepe also helped us settle in, helping with our bags and even bringing us a larger refrigerator when they realized we had cooking ingredients with us. I can't say enough about the qualities of this family. They really strive to make sure their guests completely happy at all times. The extras provided also added value to our experience. The free parking on the road was perfect. The wi-fi worked reliably, and the breakfast provided for us in the restaurant each morning was delicious. The minute we walked in, the eggs hit the pan and the capuccinos were brought to our table. Already on the table was "mama's cake," juice, and water. Each day the breakfast got us off to a good start. La Tagliata has extensive vegetable gardens that are open to walk through or even to pick from. The lettuce that they grow is out of this world! And there are flowers planted all over the property, as well. Every 3 days our linens were changed out, bed remade, and floor and bathroom cleaned. And speaking of cleaning, the premises are sparkling clean. The staff is constantly washing windows, sweeping floors, and keeping everything in perfect order. While there, we visited Pompeii, Praiano, and drove the amalfi Coast Drive to Salerno. But some days we just stayed on the terrace, watching the boats, and enjoying la dolce far niente. We loved La Tagliata. We'll be back. You should go!

We've been to La Tagliata apartments for one week and had the most wonderful time. The family who takes care of the restaurant and the lodging is as nice as the view we had from our rooms. We took so many pictures that it's been hard to choose one for printing. Everyone, Antonietta, Giorgia, Pepe, Enzo, the uncles, were so nice that we felt like home and we loved the dinners we had there. We had a car, so it was easy to go to Positano and around, as the place is a little far from the center. But the view, the welcome and the peace we had there, waking up with the birds sounds, did not let this to be a problem. The room I stayed was very nice, clean and confortable. We can tell that the owners took care of each detail. Having wifi avaiable was one of the topics that made us choose La Tagliata. And we, my husband, our friends and me, thought that we had made a perfect choise. We recommend and really hope we can go back someday.

La Tagliata simply put... tranquil, accomodating, authentic, relaxing; the most beautiful views along the amalfi Coast!
Giorgia & the rest of the family took us in and made us feel a part of their family from the time we set foot on the property. I could go on for days on how beautiful it is but, you'll just have to experience it yourself. I could go on and on about how wonderful our dinner experience was, but you'll just have to sit in the restaurant and allow Mama, Papa & Luigi treat you to the best home cooked Italian food you'll have. I could tell you they care about you & don't just check you in, then dissappear, but you'll have your own stories of how they cared for you, & made you feel like their favorite guests in the world! I could tell you if you have kids, it will be their favorite place in all of Italy, but you'll have to take them & watch them explore up & down the property while making memories of their own. I could tell you there are just as good places to stay all down the coast, but then again... I don't believe there is. This is about as beautiful, & authentic of an Italian vacation that you'll find. If you want to experience Italy with a lovely Italian family who love to entertain & to share themselves... La Tagliata is the only choice.
Some of our highlights:
Dad's: doing his quiet time on the deck loverlooking the coast, our dinner at the restaurant- favorite of the whole trip!
Mom's: Giorgia seeing us on the side of the road- along the way to Ravello & her taking the time to pull over & write down suggestions of where to eat & visit when we got there. The night she came to check on us & saw we were hungry w/ a tired/sick child that didn't want to get out in the cold, so she took me up to the (closed)restaurant & they put together a dinner for all of us, that was nothing short of amazing!
The boys (13 & 8) exploring the property, the turkeys & fish pond, the bath tub in our room, breakfasts! -

Our holiday in Montepertuso at the property of the restaurant "La Tagliata" was tersely just gbreat.
Both apartments had high quality; the terraces overlooking indescribable; not to mention the outdoor kitchen
- unique. So you like to cook in holiday too.
Antipasti, pasta, grilled meat - you get really good food in the restaurant. You should of course bring great hunger. A "must-have".
The whole property is impressive.
We felt immediately homelike. Praise to the whole family. It was given us the feeling to be part of this family.
You can't put it into words; You have to experience it simply live and you will definitely not regret it.
Who here not feel well, has own guilt.
We are glad to have found this lovely place because we would have missed what.
We will definitely come back. -

We could not have been luckier, this was the perfect place for our summer vacation.
We had the smaller suite for a week in the end of august, the weather was perfect, the suite is awesome, the view is breathtaking and the fact that the owners treat you so well is just icing in the cake.
We had parking and breakfast included in our rate which was great.
The cooking facilities are very convenient (you can cook with the best view in Positano), and the entire location was very nicely maintained.
Also you cannot miss the experience of dining at La Tagliata restaurant, just a few steps away.
We highly recommend this property. Hoping to get back very soon.

This past July my husband and I went to beautiful Positano. We stayed in one of the units at La Tagliata in Montepertuso, which is the mountain that at the top of downtown Positano. We were very happy here because it was very confortable, super clean, we had free parking and free breakfast. The views of the ocean were breathtaking, we had access to their organic farm for fresh vegetables that I used to cook in a complete outside kitchen overlooking the sea. The location could not have been better because if we wanted to go down to Positano we could take the bus just outside the property. We rented a car in Rome and drove down south for 3 housr with our car we were able to go to amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii and many other beautiful little very typical Italian towns. I just fell in love with the area. I fully recommend the units at La Tagliata they are truly lovely. The owners were so nice and friendly that I felt that we were part of their family. We are ready to go back next year. If you are after the true Italian exprerience of Positano and the amalfi Coast this is the place.

If you are looking for a true Italian holiday, La Tagliatta is the place for you. The rooms are so adorable. Very nicely decorated, very comfortable, and very clean. You can relax in the jacuzzi and look out over the sea. The views from the rooms, terrace, and outdoor kitchen are breathtaking and abosolutely amazing. Everyday you will wake to wonderful sounds of chickens and birds, and the clean amalfi Coast air. At night you can see so many stars and if you are lucky, the occassional fireworks. It is really indescribable. You must experience it for yourself. Breakfast is made fresh daily with farm fresh eggs and local meats. The family will make you feel like you are part of their family. (They speak very good English so there is no language barrier.) They are also very good (and patient) Italian language teachers. I did not want to leave! The restaurant is fabulous. You can cook for yourself in the outdoor kitchen but, a visit is not complete until you have had dinner at La Tagliatta. It is more than just the food, it is the experience of dinning, dancing, laughing and simply having fun. Don't forget to save room for desert.
Transportation is very easy as well. There are local buses that leave every 50-55 minutes that will take you into the town center. It is so simple.
I traveled with my girl friends but, it would also be the perfect place for a romantic vacation or honeymoon. I have already booked my week for next year and for my daughter's honeymoon in 2012.
If you are looking for the La Dolce Vita experience, La Tagliatta is the place for you! Ciao -

La Tagliata is a stunning, special place to stay. From the moment we arrived to the warm farewells by the host family everything about our stay was exceptional. You will not meet a warmer, kinder family and staff than those at La Tagliata - they are the ultimate hosts!
The property and our room was peaceful, beautiful and immaculate. Our gorgeous room had an amazing view of the sea from the bed, bath and private deck! The bed is very comfortable and the room was well stocked with everything you could need. We could have stayed a month! It is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy nature, enjoy good food and also well situated to explore the coast.
The surrounding area has gorgeous walking trails to help work off the amazing home style cooking prepared at La Tagliata.
La Tagliata was a perfect 10 and we can't wait to return soon! -

In august 2010 we stayed in La Tagliata for 5 days. It was our fourth visit to Italy and the best one. The place is very beautiful. The property is situated very high in the mountains and we enjoyed the sea view from the terrace and even from jakuzzi! We had a wonderful opportunity to meet very nice family of the owners. Many thanks to Giuseppe, Georgia, Vincenzo and all family for the very warm welcome, for all very useful advises and for help in organization of our one-day sea trip to Capri. The dinner in La Tagliata was very unusual, very tasty and absolutely unforgettable. We also want to mention that location of the villa is very good for trips to many beautiful places of amalfi Coast. We highly recommend visiting this wonderful place!
