This place is even better than the pics/description.
Private with unobstructed views of the cove on a dead end road with
a few local homes on it. Feels remote but with access to St. John's
a 30 minute drive away. Bright and spacious, homey and well stocked
with towels etc. We cooked some fabulous meals here in the full
kitchen that had all the pots, pans and utensils we needed. Lulled to sleep every night by the waves on the rocks below. If you have young children you will have to keep an eye on them as the house is literally "on the rock". Anywhere in Newfoundland be careful of the
sea. The coast is rocky and the waves unpredictable. We rented a car
and had week of heaven touring the area, with a cozy base to return to.In late august and early September walk out the door and pick fresh blueberries for breakfast. We will be coming back soon!

First off my husband and I would like to thank Robert the owner for having such an amazing piece of property accessible to travellers. He was very welcoming and friendly and made us feel right at home when we arrived. The cottage was absolutely beautiful from the art on the walls to the view. We spent a majority of our time sitting on the deck with a coffee enjoying the sound and vastness of the ocean. Not to mention the cozy nights curled up in front of the wood burning stove. The cottage was very clean and well taken care of and exceeded our expectations. We would most definitely come back again and recommend this slice of beauty to anyone and everyone. The surrounding locals were also very welcoming, kind and if you love dogs as much as we do, you'll love your daily greeting from Dexter the dog. We really can't say anything bad about our stay, it was absolutely perfect.

Sorry to hear of the horrible early winter you guys are having. Bye the way, it was 14 degrees above zero, in Pouch Cove yesterday. All the best for a healthy and happy New Year and please tell others about this most enchantingly beautiful Province. Thanks again. Robert Cramer

A cabin in Newfoundland overlooking the ocean to see whales was number one on our "bucket list". The Red Cabin at Pouch Cove delivered - whales blowing and cavorting in the bay below to behold over wine and cheese. on the deck. The cabin's view was beyond fabulous - we just sat there and took it in. The cabin was well equipped, clean, quiet and had everything our heart desired. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Pouch Cove is is a lovely former outport and only 20 minutes away from attractions in St. Johns.Response from Robert P Cramer - 09/12/2012

Brockville, CanadaSpectacular Ocean Views and Beautifully Renovated House
Left on 08/12/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My husband and I stayed at the red house for a week in July. It was the perfect start to our Newfoundland vacation. The weather was fantastic (a few sprinkles of rain) with sunshine and perfect views of the ocean. The ocean views from this house are spectacular! The two bedrooms are upstairs and both offer windows opening up to the ocean breeze. The beds (very comfortable) are high enough to allow you to gaze out at the ocean. I can't say enough about the beautiful location of this property. The online pictures do not do it justice.
The house is nicely equipped (no dishwasher) and was neat as a pin. The wifi worked great. I can't comment on the cable tv as we didn't turn it on all week. It was available though. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs as well as a "den" (pull-out couch) and another bathroom (shower stall) on the main floor. Plenty of room for a family or two couples.
The little town of Pouch Cove is beautiful and the property is a short walk to the East Coast Trail. There are trails right outside the red house and I recommend taking the one to the North of the house, over the ridge. The view is awe inspiring. Also a very short drive (20-25 minutes) to St. John's. We found the red house a great base for exploring the avalon Peninsula.
While the many (many) windows in the house afford unobstructed views of the ocean, the weather allowed us to spend much of our time on the outside decks. Pull up a chair, pour a glass of wine and watch the whales perform. You won't need to turn on the tv.
We will definitely visit the red house again! -

We stayed at this delightful cottage from June 23-June 30 with another couple. When we arrived the cottage was clean and ready for us. The view you see in the above picture is exactly what you get! The 4 of us spent much time sitting outside with our binoculars and taking in the fresh ocean air and the fabulous scenery. The bedrooms are very spacious and it was nice to have 2 bathrooms. There was plenty of room in the kitchen and having a washer/dryer was a plus so we didn't have to pack as much. I suppose the only downfall (and certainly would not discourage me from coming here again) is no dishwasher. And the only reason I say that is because we did not eat out much and cooked almost every dinner at the cottage, however, having the bbq did help in the dish department. Every morning, we'd gather in the livingroom with our coffees, get caught up on the news, via internet and tv and head out for the day. This was my first trip to Newfoundland and I have wonderful memories of The Rock and The Red Cottage.

Owner
Hi Carolyne. Thanks for the glowing review. Sorry was unable to have a dishwasher. The problem is I have my own septic tank and the topography of the Island,'mostly rock', limits the size of the septic field. Alternative would be direct ocean flush which is not in my vocab. Thanks for the nice words though and I look forward to perhaps welcoming you back to " the Rock and my Red house", on day. Please tell others of this most wonderful Province. Have a good and warm balance of a summer. Robert.

When travelling to Newfoundland one has to remember that it is not the Caribbean! We were here in august and the average temperature was 10 degrees (celcius). Having said that...the scenery was simply spectacular! When we arrived at The Red House we were immediately greeted by a minke whale blowing a hello. The 'woman on the spot' Kate, was there shortly after our arrival and showed us around. She also caters home-cooked meals if you so desire. The coast is great fun to hike on, but there are also formal hiking trails a short walk from the cottage. The folks in the town are friendly and helpful. The cottage is only a 15 minute drive from St. John's.
The cottage itself was clean and warm, the beds comfortable, reading material available, the kitchen fully equiped. There is a television there but no cable (sporadic staticky cbc). There is a great radio station in St. John's that played all our favourites. The cottage has a sweet little wood stove, but you'll have to find your own wood. Bring warm waterproof outerwear. Take a whale/puffin tour. Well worth the time and money. This cottage is worth the money, has the best view of the ocean, and is a lovely home away from home. -

My wife and I had the good fortune to spend a few days at the Pouch Cove cottage. The cottage was clean, with modern amenities, and well located less than 30 minutes from St John's. It has unobstructed ocean view on cliffs above Pouch Cove. It was the one of the most reasonable price wise of all of our Newfoundland rentals. It location was the best we have experienced in the province with fantastic views. The way the cottage is situated on a point, you have the feeling that you are alone to enjoy the fantastic vistas. Five stars is not enough to describe this property!

My family traveled to Newfoundland for my daughter's wedding. We rented this perfect cabin in Pouch Cove. It lived up to all our expectations. The view from the deck is stunning. Even saw whales sprouting. It has all the comforts of home. Very roomy with a big sunroom for meals and socializing. The whole family enjoyed it thoroughly. We could not have asked for any place better. Highly recommend it.

Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The lovely cottage at the edge of the ocean exceeded our expectations. It had an amazing view, quaint warm comfortable interior with seating for the four of us. It was presented well from the moment you entered the front door; it was spotlessly clean with comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen minus a dishwasher. We enjoyed a very delicious fish pie, garlic bread, greek salad and chocolate pear pudding with cream that was cooked and delivered ready to eat by a local named Kate DeCant. The portions were very generous - we even got another meal from it. The location was only 20 minutes from St. John's which made it an ideal location for the tourist 'to-do' list then scoot back to our ocean oasis for rest and relaxation. The weather was not ideal - very cool with fog and drizzle but it co-operated on the final morning of our stay to clear off enough for us to see a whale! We would highly recommend this lovely cottage to anyone.

My husband and I traveled to NL with my parents for a 10-day trip. We reserved the Red House at Pouch Cove for the first portion of the trip, and ended up asking to stay an extra day (the next party was coming the following day), because we were so comfortable there! We found the house exactly as described on the website. The weather (mid-June) was chilly/foggy/rainy almost every day we were there, and yet we had a fantastic stay. Note to hikers: a trailhead for the East Coast Trail is within walking distance of the house!
An additional note: we wished we had taken advantage of property manager Kate's dinners, at least some of the time. We enjoy cooking, but we would have liked to stay wrapped up and cozy on a few of the days instead of taking the 20-minute drive to the grocery!
This was an excellent place to stay with my parents. The two upstairs bedrooms were of equal size; both have excellent views of the ocean (literally right outside the door). Having two bathrooms was nice, too. The living room had comfortable furniture for all four of us to sit and chat by the wood stove in the evenings. An extremely pleasant stay!! -

This is a wonderful cottage for those who want to have a few days of serene bliss. we had been on the road for ten days and enjoyed our quiet seclusion here before we went to St. John's. The weather was overcast and foggy in the mornings but we went for wonderful walks and loved sitting on the deck, glass of wine in hand, wrapped in a wool blanket, watching nine whales playing in the cove. We had Kate De Cant cater our dinners (which were delicious and very generous in portion) so we only had to purchase a few groceries at the local convenience store. Rogers does not have cellphone service in this area if that is important to anyone. We hope to return soon but will try for late July or early august.
