We enjoyed the cottage which was well-equipped and very comfortable. A lovely welcome card and bottle of wine was an unexpected delight. The location in Powburn meant we could travel in all directions and had a cosy, wood-burner to return to. Powburn itself is small but has a handy shop, which we used, an Inn which was okay for an evening drink but the food was not appetising. We went to see Northumberland and the location was perfect. Went to Jenck's 'Northumberlandia', theatre in Newcastle, Alnwick, Rothbury, the coastal route and the National Park. We would return without doubt.

Lovely, Comfortable Cottage neat gateway to the Cheviots

This cottage is obviously a cherished holiday home and its owners are very generous in the comforts that they provide. Everything one could reasonably need is provided and the cottage is very nicely decorated, with a lovely ambience. The multifuel stove in the living room is easy to use and makes things very cosy. Plenty of fuel is provided. The bathroom is great too. Location wise, the Cheviot Hills and the Cheviot visitors centre are very close by and we had some fantastic days walking in a gorgeous landscape, whilst alnwick is ony a 15 minute drive away. Powburn is not a particularly nice village and has no real centre or identity. There is a pub and a decent enough shop at the local petrol station however. We probably woul not stay at Hillview again because, although we could not fault the cottage itself in any respect, it is on a very busy a Road with a lot of freight traffic (i.e. large lorries) passing through from quite early in the morning. There is no back garden and we certainly didin't feel we could have sat in the pretty little front garden. It depends on what you are used to, I suppose, and some people may not be disturbed by those noise levels, in which case I would reccomend the accommodation.

Comfortable cottage in Northumberland

Very comfortable cottage although the stairs are very steep and if you should need the toilet during the night it is a long way from the bedroom to the bathroom. The cottage has everything you could need and Powburn is a good central place to stay for touring Northumberland. It is within easy reach of the main places of interest such as alnwickj, Cragside, Wallington etc.
