Surrey, BC CanadaA Wonderful and Charming Place
Left on 10/02/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We arrived in this lovely little village with our backpacks after a long day day of travel. We were greeted by Valentina and her Grama with smiles. They fed us some wonderful (handmade) chocolate dolce and an ice cold beer.
It was a sunday when we arrived at the apartment, and the local market was closed, and therefore did not have food to cook for dinner. Valentina's mother made us a plate of "The Best" tagliatelle with mushrooms we have ever had!
The apartment is just like the photos, and the view is fantastic. We enjoyed staying in Praiano as it is a quieter village than the nearby Positano. Getting to the beaches is a bit of an effort, because you have to go down many, many stairs and then climb back up again (the stairs are steep). We would definitely recommend this apartment, it was a wonderful place to stay. -

Hamilton, New ZealandA Peaceful Italian Village
Left on 11/21/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Arriving at Casa Giuliana a for our two-week stay in September, we were met by the smiling faces of the owners and plates of home-cooked pastries - very welcome after many hours of flying from New Zealand. Two sisters own this property: Rosanna and Tiziana (who speaks good English) and they did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. The house is exactly as represented on the Summer In Italy website. It is light, clean, well equipped for self-catering and has an unobstructed view of the sea from two small balconies. We took a 3-minute walk every day along a quiet pedestrian lane to the little 'Tutti' supermarket where staff manage tourists' enquiries and lack of Italian with unvarying courtesy and patience.
Praiano village is a tranquil haven away from the tourist magnets of Positano and amalfi. Don't expect shopping and nightlife as there isn't any. A 20-minute walk takes you to Vettica Maggiore where there is internet access and a smattering of hotels and restaurants.
Bus transport to towns along the amalfi Coast is unpredictable, often not adhering to the printed timetables and sometimes so overloaded that buses sail past without stopping. Catching a water taxi from the tiny beach below Hotel Onda Verde is reliable and enjoyable but considerably more expensive.
If hiking is your thing, there are plenty of walks in the hills behind Praiano but a map is essential as it is easy to stray from the path. The terrain along this part of the coast is extremely steep and Praiano is no different. The little streets and lanes of the village are connected by dozens of flights of steps (about 300 down to the beach), so by the end of our stay we felt fitter than when we arrived!
