      Great views from average apartment

Left on 09/25/2012 for a stay in September 2012

I recently stayed at this property with my wife on our honeymoon for a week. I think overall We had a great time here however there were a few drawbacks.

      Pros:

The scenery was absolutely beautiful. There are two good sized balconies (the one on the second floor is larger). My wife and I sat on the second floor patio almost every night and ate dinner and admired the beautiful ocean views under candlelight.

The kitchen was nice and had enough appliances for us to cook our own meals (grocery store was close by). This was a good place for us because we are both active, however I would not recommend this to people who have a hard time walking or are out of shape as there is a ton of difficult walking involved since the whole town is built on a hill (unless of course you rent a car).

Also, the price was right for this place. The entire Amalfi coast can be pricey, but the rate to rent this place for a week was very competitive, which was the primary driver for us renting it.

      Cons:

When we arrived in Praiano, we had to meet up with the owner of the property (even though the leasing is managed by a seperate company) who spoke a total of zero words in English. He could not understand us, and we could not understand him. Also, we were instructed to meet him at a bar in Praiano, however as he did not own a car (most everyone in this town rides a scooter) he could not help us get our luggage to the apartment which is about a mile up a steep incline. Doing this at night in the rain was not fun.

The apartment itself was decently clean, however there were ants all over the bathroom. We were told by the leasing company that this was normal in Italy, which I think is probably true, but there were literally hundreds. So we had to go buy any killer at the local store. I think this is what took my review down from a good apartment to an average one.

Overall, I think I would return to this apartment because of the views, however I would make sure that I met with the leasing company (not the owner) when arriving.

Response from Summer In Italy - 11/13/2012

      Summer In Italy

      Manager

Thanks for letting us know how it went! I am so happy to hear that you found Casa Ivetta to be a good value. I would like to take this opportunity to share a word of advice that might be helpful to renters considering this apartment.

Indeed, ants can be common in untouched areas and, indeed, we know about it and, as you said, warn travellers in advance that renting a self-catering apartment might a times mean to use some ant spray to keep ants away.

As for the owners not speaking English, that is what we are here for, and guests are welcome to use us. Indeed, we provide a 24/7 customer service, with a dedicated local number, where a bilingual representative can (among other things) translate for our guests over the phone. All it takes is to mimic a "call Summer In Italy" to the owner, and they will understand they need to call us.

Why would one include in a catalog a home owned by someone who does not speak English, you might ask? The fact is that the nicest, truest, most uniquely Italian private homes are owned by... well... Italians, and some of them only speak... ehmmm.. Italian, which is, after all, their home language. For example, the owner of beautiful Casa Ivetta is a fisherman. He does not speak English, but he will take out to sea on his boat, and if he has a good catch he might give you an unexpected gift of fish. Besides, he doesn't make a living out of renting the apartment, and the price is a bargain, since he has no pressure to make big profits. All in all, some big pluses, and we try to make up for the minus by providing an excellent customer service (which, by the way, is not limited to translating to property owners!)

Great location that had everything we needed

Left on 10/14/2010 for a stay in October 2010

This appartment was in an excellent position with wonderful views from every room. We were travelling with a 4 month old baby and it was no problem for the owners to provide a cot etc. The appartment is over 3 levels so there are lots of stairs but it is worth it. The images online were exactly how the place looked and on arrival everything was clean. There is a grocery store a 15 minute walk away and there were good cooking utensils/pots/pans for cooking. If you are staying in Praiano see Genario the taxi driver on the main road for any day trips/transfers as his proces were good and service great. The Praiano/Positano bus leaves at the end of the street and is worth the 1euro to catch down/up the hill to the main road. A perfect place to spend our holiday - only wish we had more time there.

      Wonderful location and apartment

Left on 06/17/2009 for a stay in October 2008

My wife and I stayed at Casa Ivetta for 7 days. It was perfect for the two of us in terms of room. A pullout couch for 2 can also be used for your guests. It had a fully equipped kitchen, underground parking across the street and 2 balconies from which you could see the Mediterranean Sea...THere were plenty of small grocery stores around the town. Our landlord/manager was very helpful...spoke little English but spoke German and Italian well. Priano, itself not a destination, is a perfect place from which to tour the Amalfi coast....not only less expensive but, more importantly, away from the hustle and bustle of Amalfi and Positano. Without a doubt, I would stay at Casa Ivetta again.
