Carcassonne, FranceThis is a lovely villa with views to die for in the wonderful vi
Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed here for a month in winter and although many places were closed on the amalfi Coast there was plenty to do and see and no shortage of restaurants and bars to sample. The villa is gorgeous, small but decorated in tasteful style. This villa also benefits from the fabulous views of the ocean, not only the village below, but down to Positano along the coast and the Isle of Capri in the distance. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a dining/lounge room , well appointed kitchen and two small balconies. The other wonderful feature about this villa was the terraced gardens behind the villa , full of lavender and lemon trees. There are tables and chairs for outside dining and on another level some loungers for relaxing. There is an elevator to take you half way up to the villa from the street and then you must negotiate two gates and about 50 steps. If the weather is inclement or you are carrying luggage or shopping then you do have an option to cross your hostess's terrace instead ( she was very gracious about this) shortening the journey quite considerably. Lia and alberto live in the larger house next door and are wonderful and gracious hosts. The villa is very private though and you will be left in peace to enjoy your holiday. Parking can be organised at a site opposite the villa and will cost 10 euros a day, its worth it. Make sure you book it when you make your booking for the villa. Praiano is a charming but quieter village perfect as a base to explore this incredible area. It is right in the centre of the coast close to a couple of lovely beaches . If you are hiring a car, make sure it is a small one, driving this coast can be challenging. In summer it would be very interesting. Public transport is certainly an option , it is frequent and inexpensive. There are bars, restaurants and grocery shops, a very good butcher and everything you need. Sorrento is your closest larger supermarket, smaller ones can be found nearby in Majori and amalfi. There are opportunities to hire cars or scooters in the village for a day or two.
Exploring a little further afield, Capri is just beautiful ,Pompeii and Herculaneum fascinating but the most amazing and surprising historical site was Paestum on the other side of Salerno. There are three incredible Greek Temples there in very good condition, there is also the remains of a large town to explore. The museum holds many pieces of artwork and artifacts and details much of the history of this ancient town and those nearby. Absolutely amazing!!! A must see.
Villa Lorenzo is a lovely villa perfect for a couple or small family and I would recommend it very highly.
A note to say that we booked with Summer in Italy, great service and a very efficient and helpful team! Thank you. -

Mountain View, CaliforniaWithout exaggeration, I could not have been happier.

There are many things to recommend Villa Lorenza, but the first and best is the location. We found both the location of Villa Lorenza within Praiano and the choice of Praiano itself to make for a great vacation. Praiano is a lovely hill town and Villa Lorenza is centrally located just a few minutes walk up from a central area with many restaurants.
Praiano is not one of the central tourist towns on the amalfi Coast, which makes for a more relaxed and genuine experience. And yet Positano, Sorento and amalfi can be quickly reached by either car or public transport, so one doesn't need to miss out on anything those towns have to offer.
Villa Lorenza itself has beautiful views from every window and from the garden terrace. One morning I woke particularly early and went out onto the kitchen balcony and watched a smooth-as-glass Tyrrhenian Sea slowly rise and fall. It was hypnotic, and I lost track of time entirely. Before I knew it the town was waking up and the aroma of espresso came to me faintly on the light breeze. Time to find out where that's coming from!
As for getting the logistics taken car of I have to specifically mention Luca from Summer In Italy. Luca promptly answered my emailed questions and repeatedly provided information needed for making trip plans. I was so pleased with the help provided before and during our stay.
I've been to Italy a half dozen times, but this was my first trip to the amalfi Coast. One often feels like it requires absolutely top dollar to have a quality experience. At Villa Lorenza we had just what we were looking for at a reachable price. It wasn't travel-on-the-cheap, but this much for your money you will rarely find. -

Seattle, USAGreat location, fantastic views, lots of steps

Villa Lorenzo is a wonderful place in Praiano and is exactly as advertised. We enjoyed the views, the garden, the kitchen and the general comfort. Lia is a gracious landlady and very responsive. The climb up from the street is strenuous, even with the elevator reducing it to "just" 70 steps, but not unusual for the area as most houses are up from the street. Praiano is a great town with markets, several good restaurants and cafés for morning coffee. We parked our car and took the excellent bus service up and down the amalfi coast, with easy access to Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.

New York City, New YorkBeautiful house with amazing view!
Left on 10/06/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Our stay in Villa Lorenza was wonderful. We had seen a previous review about ants and were a little worried. However, the house was very clean when we arrived and we never had a problem with ants or any kind of bugs. We were very impressed by the helpfulness of our hostess. We got separated from one of our pieces of luggage and she made countless calls on our behalf until we were reunited with it. We can't say enough about how much we loved this town. All the locals were friendly. Our parking spot was down the street from the villa at a local lady's house. Our first day there she gave us enough free tomatoes and basil to last us for days! All the local restaurants were wonderful. We finally decided that Vivaro's wine bar was our favorite. If you are looking for a less touristy experience, Villa Lorenza and Praiano are for you.

Atlanta, GeorgiaNice villa w/beautiful view but horrible ant problem
Left on 08/05/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I have to agree that the villa is very nice and well appointed inside. The view is spectacular and we were thrilled with the accommodations until late in the day our first day there when the ants made their appearance. Summer in Italy had warned about ants as a "minor inconvenience" but this was not a minor inconvenience. They were everywhere...even crawling on us in our beds. All over the kitchen, even in the drawers and cupboards with clean dishes. We got ant spray and that did not stop them. We had to spray pesticide all over the place, even the kitchen counters and it basically became impossible to use the kitchen. Having two members of our family with serious food allergies we were counting on the kitchen to prepare our meals. As a result, we ended up eating almost every meal but breakfast out.
We did contact the owners but they came by and basically said they had ants too and brought a can of ant spray. Then when they found out that we had already done that they basically shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. We also contacted Summer in Italy and they seemed concerned but nothing at all was done--even after we told them the owners didn't offer a solution. There was no real effort to solve the situation and our week in Praiano was fairly unpleasant due to this situation. Who really wants ants crawling on themselves and their 4 year old while sleeping?
Not my idea of the ideal Italian holiday. We will not be renting this villa again nor renting from Summer in Italy.Response from Summer In Italy - 11/07/2012

Thank you very much for this opportunity to explain to explain to guests going to countryside villas how to deal with ants. Firstly, I would like to say that I am sorry that you were not able to enjoy your stay as other guests did. Getting rids of ants, but, most importantly, avoiding to attract them into the house, requires following some simple guidelines, which we explain to guests booking with us who are going to villas located in clean and unpolluted environments, which is where you often find bugs such as ants.
Ants have an interest in visiting our homes as long as they can find food. The easiest way to avoid ants is not to attract them. As such, we recommend not leaving food around the house, particularly crumbles, and, most importantly, cleaning up spilled juice, soda, milk or other liquids. As a father of a 4-year-old myself, I know how difficult it can be to achieve this with a little kid around. The other important thing to remember is to close the garbage bags and put them out of the house. Food remains in the garbage bin will attract ants. I know that while on vacation it is normal not to be as concerned as at home about cleaning up after meals, or after the kids, or taking care of the garbage -- that is one aspect where renting a self-catering home differs from staying at a hotel. Upon arrival, of course, the house is delivered clean and free from ants.
What to do once ants have entered the house? Is as simple as using ant spray on the floors, usually along the tracks ants follow, and -- clearly -- cleaning up what attracts them, so that they do not return to the house. Before some of our readers think that we are talking about dangerous poisons, it must be said that the ant spray sold in Italian shops is a common household item, safe for kids and pets. You find it in supermarkets, Tabacchi stores and often even in smaller grocery stores. We usually do not spray it on the kitchen counter, but only on the floors. However, simply wiping the counter with a wet sponge is sufficient to dissolve the substance, if one has any health-related concerns.
I understand how in other cultures getting reads of ants might require the intervention of a pest control professional. However, no such professional exists in Italy who will take care of ants in private homes, as the solution is as simple as cleaning food left-overs and using ant spray. That is what the owners came to do. We took action to ensure that the owners would come and assist you, which they did, and to explain what to do to resolve the problem, since avoiding that the ants return requires a degree of cooperation
Once again, I am sorry that your stay was not enjoyable as the one of guests staying at the villa the week before and after yours. Once the house has been cleaned and sprayed, food leftovers removed and the above explained, following the simple principle of not leaving any more food or liquids around solves the problem. -

This is a perfect destination for an authentic, relaxing holiday. The villa is spacious, beautifully appointed and furnished with spectacular views. Lia and alberto are friendly and gracious hosts, long time residents of the area and happy to share their knowledge and recommendations.
Praiano is an ideal base from which to explore the amalfi Coast, quieter than Positano but more charming and still close to everything. To repeat, I couldn't imagine a better place to stay for 2 couples or a family of four for a perfect Italian holiday -

My family and I recently stayed at Villa Lorenza, Praiano with our 3-year-old and our 11-month-old. We were first struck by the amazing views from the 3 balconies. Photos simply don’t do it justice as there are stunning views of Positano and Capri in the distance. Besides the great views, this villa also provides access to a lovely garden with lounge chairs and small table and chair set as well as more fabulous views. I could hardly believe that we found a great place with views and a garden for such a reasonable price!
The villa was immaculately clean, very inviting, and fully-stocked with linens and kitchen goods. Having a young family, we also appreciated having access to a dishwasher and washing machine. The owner, Lia, even provided a travel cot and highchair. We appreciated Lia’s warm welcome and continued hospitality during our stay.
There are about 90 steps from the street to the villa, but there is an elevator/lift that takes you about half way up the steps. The views are certainly worth the hike up the steps. The villa is close to good restaurants, pharmacy and grocery store – everything you need for a holiday.
We have been raving about the villa to all of our friends and family, and we definitely recommend it! Had a great stay! -

Great vacation at Villa Lorenza, Praiano. Our host and hostess and their family were looking forward to the maximum comfort and to us to enjoy our stay in Praiano. Everything is at walking distance (restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, bus stop, taxi, tourist information desk). Many very good restaurants to taste the local gastronomy and wines from Campania. This place is ideal to relax and meet with the people. Everybody was charming. From there you can make excursions to Pompei, Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Ravello and Capri. We recommend the villa to all our friends and the villa itself is “wow!, great view, terraces, all the modern comfort. Be sure to get fit before your trip, many steps but it’s worth the view -

We stayed at Villa Lorenza in June and found it to be wonderful, better than expected and a great base if you want to stay in a quieter town without the crowds of Positano or amalfi. Lia and alberto are charming and friendly hosts and the villa is spacious, perfectly renovated, furnished with genuine antiques and blessed with spectacular views. There is a lift which halves the climb from the main road easier and there are lots of good restaurants literally just below the villa. The villa would be ideal for two couples or a family and we look forward very much to a return visit.

The house is gorgeous, quiet, has a splendid view and very kind owners. The area is really busy in august but it is possible to avoid the crowds when staying here. You must be very fit in order to handle all the stairs. Great restaurants right nearby within walking distance.
